Even President Kelly, a champion of mutant rights refused to help search for possible survivors of the Genosha massacre because he thought it would hurt his image. Having to watch his daughter burned alive by superstitious humans. Watching his lover Isabelle have her throat cut by a member of the CIA whom Magneto was working with. When you stop and think about it, Charles is a crappy friend and hypocrite. Eric put aside his beliefs and fully embraced Charles' dream of human-mutant co-existence. And what did he get for his troubles? He almost got depowered. He almost got assassinated. He lost an X-men. Genosha got obliterated. And he got kidnapped by a twisted human sentenal hybrid. Then, here comes Charles acting Sanctomonius while he is out in space trying to score some birdoussy. Eric mourned Charles, who was never dead. I'd be pissed too.
Not to mention that Magneto shutting off the world's power is the only reason any of them are even still alive, since the Prime Sentinels would've overwhelmed them. This is a complicated issue. Charles was originally in space to heal from his life threatening injuries but then a lot has changed since he left and most for better but worse overall. Mutants have an impossible ultimatum and sometimes the answer isn’t quite so simple. What Magneto is doing is justified but doesn’t always mean it’s right the ends don’t always justify the means. Charles can’t really be in this position either considering he wasn’t really present for the events and he not really seeing the big issue but what he strives for is still commendable. What are mutants to do?

Magneto is a villain that you just can't hate. His anger is very justifiable. He tried to do things Charles way for the sake of his dream and friendship. He turned himself into the UN, saved humans, and he finally built a society where mutants can live peacefully. Only for that to be taken away by the humans he just reconciled with. And him watching thousands of people he promised to protect die.
According to comics it was 94% of entire mutant population! This is not something you bounce back from or recover from, it was a targeted genocide. I really find it hard to sympathise with Charles and his sing along Kumbaya songs with humans after they wiped out willingly 94% of your people, in my opinion this should have been the tipping point for him to finally get the point co-existance is impossible.
Rogue leaving makes little sense to me- as it's the xmen who are actively about to stop Bastion and she was obsessed with revenge barely an episode ago.
The saddest part is, neither side is 100% right or wrong. Xavier wants peace and harmony, which is an understandable goal, but he only sees the positives of his goal rather than take the negatives into account, causing him to make decisions such as leaving Magneto and the X-Men to pick up where he left off while he and Lilandra become a couple, even though the X-Men aren't ready to go it alone yet. Meanwhile Magneto, while understandably upset at Bastion, Sinister, and humanity as a whole for Genosha, fails to realize his plans are doing more harm than good for the mutants he claims to help. Wanting to create a new home for mutants isn't wrong, but changing Earth's axis, like Xavier said, will kill many mutants as well as regular humans. In the end both sides fall into 2 different extremes, Magneto is an extreme cynic who would rather lash out in anger when provoked, no matter who it hurts. And Xavier is an extreme idealist who believes everyone deserves a chance, despite evil mutants like Apocalypse, Shadow King, and Sabretooth existing in plain sight.
It is explained a lot in the comics that both Xavier's and Erik's goals only work if they are working together. Xavier's vision is too narrow minded and he needs Erik to see the bigger picture and bring awareness to Charles. Erik moves too fast to extreme measures and lashes out due to his trauma. He needs Charles to keep himself in the present, and focus him to the correct path.
"Gods abandon those who believe in them; mutants do not." Bars! That sound like a line that would've fit in easily in the 90s series. I just wish they had done this show maybe five years earlier. David Hemblen would've nailed these lines with such meaning and theatrics. Matthew Waterson does a good job, though.
I don't think it works in context coming from Magneto who is being unreasonable (as Magneto often is). It only makes sense to me if he said something like 'gods abandon those who do NOT believe because they have proven themselves no longer WORTHY of grace' or whatever.

Rogue is angry. So is Roberto. That's why they choose to join Magneto. The rest use that anger to fight for a better world, not to destroy the one that exists.
@@jordanloux3883Ehhh. I'd argue the X-Men need to fundamentally change their approach to "fight for a better world". Playing hero to try to sway public opinion is a good thing, but that public opinion is fickle and when manipulators like Bastion are around, easily turned against mutant kind. They need what Genosha almost was, an internationally recognized power that would protect mutant kind and provide a safe space for them to live, whatever the public thinks. Something that couldn't be destroyed without serious consequences for all the powers of the world. Only then would mutants truly have the respect to demand coexistence instead of begging and praying for it while being exterminated. As long as things keep going the way they are Bastion's vision of the future is what is going to come about, not Xavier's. Quite literally without Magneto's actions the X-Men and hope for all mutant kind would have been destroyed in the previous episode.
How the hell did he survive if the blast broke through his barrier and vaporized Leech? I assume it has something to do with Bastion, and I bet he planned on Cooper freeing him.
@@Alex_Logan22 he is probably more durable due to his powers compared to Leech. The blast probably knocked him unconscious which made the tri-sentinel not see him as a threat anymore. Thus sparing him for Bastion to capture him.
@@CeliMe007 The sentinel said the threat was eliminated, not neutralized like Gambit. The only way that makes sense is if someone teleported/transported him in the last second, his human flesh isn’t superhuman in any way and cannot take a blast that vaporized the morlocks. He could’ve made a smaller force field but then Leech should’ve survived too since he was clinging onto him. The sentinel was far too efficient to walk away from a heartbeat.
Considering how pissed off Magneto got at the UN when Storm lost her powers, you'd think at some point he would've been like: "Come to me, my X-Men. Let us leave this would behind and... Oh, shit! Storm?! You got your powers back! Lookin' good as always, goddess!"

Living in hiding and abandoning your home, which you have a right to, isn't just leaving. Abandoning your best friend and every mutant on earth isn't just leaving. It's running away. Sooner or later he'll get tired of running, he'll be back, because everyone gets tired of it. Moral ambiguity sucks, it does, living in the grey area sucks. But you either live there or live in denial - there's no other choice. Life ISN'T black and white, gods and monsters, or might and right. There's choice, there's freedom, and the game is never finite. Magneto wears a helmet not to protect himself from Xavier but to hide behind the idea that he has to, that Xavier might decide their ultimate fate by power and not reason. Magneto always plays black because deep down he knows Xavier has always made the first move. He plays black to have the excuse that he has no other choice but to defend himself. When given the white side of the board, he merely played defense. He retaliated but he never moved. He never *built* anything. Imagine if he cared this much about everyone, what he could do in a single day. He could solve the energy crisis, he could fix mountains, he could build cities in an evening... if he could only trust a single engineer to help him make the plans. Trust anyone besides himself. Instead, he reacts his entire life. Given power, Xavier built a school. Given a mutant power, Xavier used it to heal and teach. Magneto chooses to obsess over the actions of a few, but has he ever walked the earth without a uniform and just *asked* people what they believed? Did he ever give anyone else a chance? Nope. Too scared. If he had any sense, when the man that can read the mind of the WORLD all at once tells you there's hope, there's god damned hope. Xavier isn't espousing peace frivolously. He can observe it without reading anyone's mind. There are people that care about their plight, there's people that can be convinced - and Xavier knows it. Magneto can't believe in it because he's too into being a Roman Legionnaire. The truth, underneath all that exquisite dialogue - is that Magneto doesn't want Brotherhood, he wants tyrannical leadership. He's infected with the idea that he needs to lead because nobody else will do what he can - not because he has power, but because he has real fear. It's why he hides behind Magneto and not Erik, because he's damn near schizophrenic about his own idolism... and trying to simplify life is a great way to make it complicated. Man this show is written well though, it's such a human thing to want to rely on power instead of grace.

1.Classic rogue wasn't that popular and was fucking ugly. Undo Genosha? Nobody knows it yet but humans didn't do that. Bastion did. Even the humans who were "in on it" like Cooper, she didn't know Bastion would do something so extreme. That's why she had a change of heart to set Magneto free... Bastion wants this war. Its why he kept Magneto alive. So the humans and mutants would destroy each other.

The whole world went bonkers after 9/11 imagine if something like Genosia happended in the real world , most mutants would join Magneto at this point and those who don't are just too afraid of whats to come. All Magneto would do is replace who does the oppressing, turning a wheel that never ends. Under his "mutants should rule the world" mentality, people like Spidey, Hulk, Captain American, Iron Man, Hawkeye, would all be second class citizens. Erik's relapse to Magneto was inevitable, but it's hard not to side with him. You can't help to not blame him for how he feels. He tried it Xavier's way and embraced his path, only to have that hope taken from him again by the people who were no different than the ones that tormented him through the holocaust. He lost an X-Men (Gambit) and a child that he promised a future of no fear only to watch him die in front of him. His reasons that set him off are justified.
I have feeling that this is temporary for the following reasons • Rogue is still grieving over Gambit's sacrifice. • Sunspot can't be taken as a villain. (Further evident by him apologizing to Jubilee after hitting her with his powers) • What Magneto did to Wolverine, it's way too obvious that their legions with him is temporary. • Regardless of the situation, the X-Men helped Rogue through her past because the X-Men are her family.

To be fair, I feel Genosha WAS the third option. Xavier dreams of coexistence, human and mutant neighbors living amongst each other in peace. Magneto dreams of mutant supremacy. Genosha was more along the lines of "fine, you don't want us among you. Then we'll go live on our own. You stay on your side, we'll stay on ours. We go about our respective lives".

This just gives Bastion more support for Operation Zero Tolerance. He's being played.

To people who agree with Magneto. You really need to think about this for just a few minutes. Nothing playing, no phone. Just think about this for five minutes Magneto is just the other half of the extreme. Both sides are both justified and incredibly wrong. Mutants are scary, even from the OG series remember that kid who was just warping reality just by getting a little emotional. That is scary and I don't care who you are knowing shit like that would make anyone lose sleep. So it has caused a lot of people to act irrationally and out of fear to get some kind of control. Understandable but not right. Now on the other end Mutants do not deserve this. They never asked to be born this way and shouldn't be punished for it and all the anger from their persecution is 100% justified. Magneto's way has always been a short term solution he gets quick results and in the moment things look good but they never last and things actually get worse after. Wheras Charles's way is harder, more irritating and just plain unattainable sometimes but it is the right way to do things. Real genuine change takes time and I mean it takes a lot of time and when you try to rush it all you do is create a negative reaction but when you see the after affects you'll be surprised by how much is different.
I was a fan of Magneto in my early twenties, but growing to late twenties, Charles appears better and better. Magneto influenced them, with great speeches made on a distressed group, but will kill them if he crosses his path. Charles could've simply deleted those thoughts up to the root, but he didn't because he respected their free will even if it is crossing his path. He is worthy of that much power with that much restraint.

This is a complicated issue. Charles was originally in space to heal from his life threatening injuries but then a lot has changed since he left and most for better but worse overall. Mutants have an impossible ultimatum and sometimes the answer isn’t quite so simple. What Magneto is doing is justified but doesn’t always mean it’s right the ends don’t always justify the means. Charles can’t really be in this position either considering he wasn’t really present for the events and he not really seeing the big issue but what he strives for is still commendable. What are mutants to do?

Magneto is a villain that you just can't hate. His anger is very justifiable. He tried to do things Charles way for the sake of his dream and friendship. He turned himself into the UN, saved humans, and he finally built a society where mutants can live peacefully. Only for that to be taken away by the humans he just reconciled with. And him watching thousands of people he promised to protect die.

Rogue leaving makes little sense to me- as it's the xmen who are actively about to stop Bastion and she was obsessed with revenge barely an episode ago.
The saddest part is, neither side is 100% right or wrong. Xavier wants peace and harmony, which is an understandable goal, but he only sees the positives of his goal rather than take the negatives into account, causing him to make decisions such as leaving Magneto and the X-Men to pick up where he left off while he and Lilandra become a couple, even though the X-Men aren't ready to go it alone yet.
Meanwhile Magneto, while understandably upset at Bastion, Sinister, and humanity as a whole for Genosha, fails to realize his plans are doing more harm than good for the mutants he claims to help. Wanting to create a new home for mutants isn't wrong, but changing Earth's axis, like Xavier said, will kill many mutants as well as regular humans.
In the end both sides fall into 2 different extremes, Magneto is an extreme cynic who would rather lash out in anger when provoked, no matter who it hurts. And Xavier is an extreme idealist who believes everyone deserves a chance, despite evil mutants like Apocalypse, Shadow King, and Sabretooth existing in plain sight.
It is explained a lot in the comics that both Xavier's and Erik's goals only work if they are working together. Xavier's vision is too narrow minded and he needs Erik to see the bigger picture and bring awareness to Charles. Erik moves too fast to extreme measures and lashes out due to his trauma. He needs Charles to keep himself in the present, and focus him to the correct path.

I don't think it works in context coming from Magneto who is being unreasonable (as Magneto often is). It only makes sense to me if he said something like 'gods abandon those who do NOT believe because they have proven themselves no longer WORTHY of grace' or whatever.

@@jordanloux3883Ehhh. I'd argue the X-Men need to fundamentally change their approach to "fight for a better world". Playing hero to try to sway public opinion is a good thing, but that public opinion is fickle and when manipulators like Bastion are around, easily turned against mutant kind. They need what Genosha almost was, an internationally recognized power that would protect mutant kind and provide a safe space for them to live, whatever the public thinks. Something that couldn't be destroyed without serious consequences for all the powers of the world. Only then would mutants truly have the respect to demand coexistence instead of begging and praying for it while being exterminated.
As long as things keep going the way they are Bastion's vision of the future is what is going to come about, not Xavier's. Quite literally without Magneto's actions the X-Men and hope for all mutant kind would have been destroyed in the previous episode.
And that's why Nightcrawler is the best X-Men.

The sentinel said the threat was eliminated, not neutralized like Gambit. The only way that makes sense is if someone teleported/transported him in the last second, his human flesh isn’t superhuman in any way and cannot take a blast that vaporized the morlocks. He could’ve made a smaller force field but then Leech should’ve survived too since he was clinging onto him. The sentinel was far too efficient to walk away from a heartbeat.

When given the white side of the board, he merely played defense. He retaliated but he never moved. He never *built* anything.

Magneto can't believe in it because he's too into being a Roman Legionnaire. The truth, underneath all that exquisite dialogue - is that Magneto doesn't want Brotherhood, he wants tyrannical leadership. He's infected with the idea that he needs to lead because nobody else will do what he can - not because he has power, but because he has real fear. It's why he hides behind Magneto and not Erik, because he's damn near schizophrenic about his own idolism... and trying to simplify life is a great way to make it complicated.

In the context of the show, you've got humans with godlike powers who are effectively gods among men, who are hated because of something that they can't change. And when you're as powerful as Magneto or Storm are, and you're continuously discrimnated against by what can be perceived as lesser beings, I think being pissed is very much justified. Especially after trying for peace. Magneto honored Charles' wishes, he TRIED to follow Charles' path, and basically got a slap in the face in return. When you take into consideration that Erik himself is Jewish and saw his family and his people rounded up into concentration camps, with his people's god doing nothing to save them from genocide his "Gods abandon those who believe in them" line makes a lot more sense. The implication that "We will be better gods" is there but, its not like its unwarranted. In Erik's eyes, Yahweh failed them, and so did humanity. I think Forge will betray the team. Forge is a technopath too. He hasnt acknowledged knowing Bastion, yet there is a photo of them together. He spoke about his Leg not being impacted by Magneto because he had thought about a solution prior to the occurrence. How convenient 🤔 Also, what about the inhibitor collar? Erik's relapse to Magneto was inevitable, but it's hard not to side with him. You can't help to not blame him for how he feels. He tried it Xavier's way and embraced his path, only to have that hope taken from him again by the people who were no different than the ones that tormented him through the holocaust. He lost an X-Men (Gambit) and a child that he promised a future of no fear only to watch him die in front of him. His reasons that set him off are justified.
I have feeling that this is temporary for the following reasons
• Rogue is still grieving over Gambit's sacrifice.
• Sunspot can't be taken as a villain. (Further evident by him apologizing to Jubilee after hitting her with his powers)
• What Magneto did to Wolverine, it's way too obvious that their legions with him is temporary.
• Regardless of the situation, the X-Men helped Rogue through her past because the X-Men are her family.

To be fair, I feel Genosha WAS the third option. Xavier dreams of coexistence, human and mutant neighbors living amongst each other in peace. Magneto dreams of mutant supremacy. Genosha was more along the lines of "fine, you don't want us among you. Then we'll go live on our own. You stay on your side, we'll stay on ours. We go about our respective lives".

@@ark1567 but they do. Constantly. They only ever get involved when mutants lose patience and lash out. They give lectures to mutants and the X-Men, but do nothing to stop government sanctioned enslavement and genocide attempts.
For all the bad writing in Civil War, it felt cathartic seeing the mutants tell the rest of the hero community that the scuffle wasn't their problem and refuse to get involved with either Cap or Tony when neither had their backs when needed
Genosha was the result of Sinister, Bastion and Master Mold. Magneto is taking his anger out on the wrong people. Declaring war on the entirety humanity for the schemes of a select few villains is throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Many of the prime sentinels were not willingly turned - they were forced against their wishes. The Prime Sentinel tech effectively just turns them into part of the Sentinel collective, they don't have any free will.
Magneto wanting a better world for mutants is *not* wrong. But his ideology of "mutants are the evolution of humanity and should replace them" *is.* That is supremacist talk.
Morph was barely on the team 30 minutes. He died in the first 40 minute episode.
That doesn't really make sense. Morph was on the team for a while at least in canon.

Magneto is no villain. He lived through the horrors of the holocaust. The man could've destroyed earth anytime he felt but hasn't (going by the animated series only). He finally tried Charles' way and his people were slaughtered....again. And humans were actively hunting his own kind. Think about it, if Magneto didn't EMP the earth, most mutants on earth would've been slaughtered by the prime sentinels. Magneto is right!!
It's true that if he didn't EMP the planet many mutants would have died. But by doing so he also inadvertently caused the deaths of people hooked up to life support, people with pacemakers, some planes probably crashed...
The issue is that after the EMP he wants to double down. You can easily argue the EMP was self defense, protecting mutants who were in danger. But what he chooses to do after is active hostility. This just gives Bastion more support for Operation Zero Tolerance. He's being played.

@ApexGale Magneto has to double down. He was there when Bastion reached out to people from around the globe: Doom, Zemo etc. And they all seemed to go along with/be complicit with Bastions plans for prime sentinels and to purge the mutant population. Magneto did what he had to do.

He's cutting and running when the going got tough. He's leaving billions of people to die and any mutant that isn't going to be okay with letting billions die. What is he right about again?
To people who agree with Magneto. You really need to think about this for just a few minutes. Nothing playing, no phone. Just think about this for five minutes
Magneto is just the other half of the extreme. Both sides are both justified and incredibly wrong.
Mutants are scary, even from the OG series remember that kid who was just warping reality just by getting a little emotional. That is scary and I don't care who you are knowing shit like that would make anyone lose sleep. So it has caused a lot of people to act irrationally and out of fear to get some kind of control. Understandable but not right.
Now on the other end Mutants do not deserve this. They never asked to be born this way and shouldn't be punished for it and all the anger from their persecution is 100% justified.
Magneto's way has always been a short term solution he gets quick results and in the moment things look good but they never last and things actually get worse after.
Wheras Charles's way is harder, more irritating and just plain unattainable sometimes but it is the right way to do things. Real genuine change takes time and I mean it takes a lot of time and when you try to rush it all you do is create a negative reaction but when you see the after affects you'll be surprised by how much is different.
I was a fan of Magneto in my early twenties, but growing to late twenties, Charles appears better and better. Magneto influenced them, with great speeches made on a distressed group, but will kill them if he crosses his path. Charles could've simply deleted those thoughts up to the root, but he didn't because he respected their free will even if it is crossing his path. He is worthy of that much power with that much restraint.
