    Any experience or suggestions if ossification within hip labrum is found on pelvis mri..?

      Ossification of the labrum can be common and is not necessarily a problem if pain is not associated with it. For pain, especially in the groin, it can signify a symptomatic labral tear or early arthritis. Other sources of groin pain can be from hip flexor strains or inflammation, and many other etiologies. I would overall see an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in hips if you have pain associated with the pathology on MRI.

    Does hip osteoarthritis cause lower back muscles to tighten up (or knot up) especially while walking? Thank you.

      The back and hip are interconnected. Hip arthritis can cause back pain to be worse. But, isolated back pain is common as well. Overall, back and hip issues are so common that it is very frequent with patients to present with both. It’s our job to differentiate these things. I often see patients who think they have a hip problem that is certainly related to the low back, and vice versa. And often both of these things are occurring. But yes, if you do have hip arthritis, the gait abnormality that can occur due to this can cause some low back discomfort fairly frequently.

      My recent xray shows calcification in the hip joint that is causing friction that is really painful. My orthopedic appt is not until November 2024. Is it common to have the calcification removed for relief? I'm afraid the orthopedic will start with treatment that is too conservative, such as cortisone shots and NSAIDs which haven't worked on me ever over the past year.

    scolioses can be corrected ….

    • @JosephGonduskyMD
      @JosephGonduskyMD  3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      True! As a hip replacement surgeon I generally think of scoliosis as either younger, adolescent idiopathic scoliosis or older, degenerative scoliosis. Most patients I see have degenerative scoliosis. Almost all people over 60 have some form of back degenerative disease, whether symptomatic or not. And, degenerative scoliosis is very common. It is the most common reason why older people lose height. The back goes from a straight line to a curved “S” and you may go from 5’6” to 5’4”. True scoliosis deformities can only be corrected with surgery. Which, as you can imagine, is a fairly massive surgical procedure which does not make sense for most people.

      That’s lazy. Listen to the video and ask the right questions. If you don’t care about you, the doctor isn’t going to care either and you’re prolonging your care as well as not being able to properly advocate for yourself. It’s the truth, it nay be triggering, but don’t shoot the messenger.
