- If you watch our channel, you know that I'm almost always wearing a hat. One of the problems with hats is they just get gross! All of the sweat, dirt, hair gunk, and other things that make a hat nasty need to be dealt with. Today I'm showing you the process I use to wash my hats. I know there are lots of ways to do it, but this is the one that works the best for me for the hats I really care about and want to take care of.
This handwashing process is more involved than just tossing it in the dishwasher or washing machine, but I like the results of this so much better!

Looking at the dirty water made me think about how excited I get when I clean my carpets with the Bissell. It's disgusting but very satisfying at the same time.

Great video! I'm in the same boat with several favorite hats I had to 'retire' to a corner of the garage because they were just too GROSS and my wife declared them to be biohazards. Now I have a way to bring them back, thank you so much! 👍

@@LeggLife washed eight hats, OMG the water was putrid but the soap, OxyClean and a bit of scrubbing did a miraculous job! All of them survived the process and the UnderArmor poly blend (hot weather) hats look brand new. Thanks again!

My Mother in law used to dry the guys hats on an overturn sauce pan. Size depends on the sailed of the hat, but helps to keep their shape.

I have a couple hat, but with dysautonomia my body forgot how to sweat properly so I don't sweat a lot. I've had those two hats for years now and they will have more dog slobber on them than they will sweat (yes, they have been washed before, but I just use the dishwasher). lol Have a great weekend guys and Sherri I'm so happy to see you feeling better in each video.

Ron has 20 hats on his top shelf.. I just counted!! 2 in each of the cars. And i know for sure , since he is the meet director of the PIAA League Championship, track meet today, and it's sunny, he is undoubtably wearing one, as i write this!! Oi Vey!! Would you like to come here and wash them all for me? LOL!! I usually just throw them in the washer, on a Gentle cycle!! Another great informative vlog!!!

Adam I really understand the balding thing. I would suggest shaving your head , I know it seams crazy and can be intimidating. But it was the best thing I have ever done. It was freeing in a way. Plus I still where my hats lol. I’m sure you have heard this before just wanted to share my experiences with it. Love the video keep them coming.
I’ve actually considered that! However, Sherri isn’t the biggest fan of that idea yet. So, I will wait :)
I never clean my hats. I think about it. Usually throw them out and buy a new one. With that said , the one thing I would of done was add some that spray and wash as a pretreat first and then put it in the hour. Also agitate the water with my hand for a little bit. I’m the same, I did try the washing machine a few times. Never again. Your video inspired me to try this in the sink. The Seahawks hat I think came out good. Mariners looks new. Nice.

I wonder if washing them in the washing machine would work if you ran it on a gentle cycle. I have 3 hats. I was given from somebody that I know and all 3 of them will 2 of them at least need cleaning. One of them is affected and two of them are adjustable
Does soaking in water damage the cardboard inside the brim? And how can you tell if it’s cardboard pr plastic inside the brim?
The Seahawks hat looks brand new it almost looks like you switched out for a new one

I clean them as they need it. Some hats I’ve never cleaned because I rarely need them. Some I let go tooooo long. So, as a hat looks dirty, begins to smell, or clearly needs cleaned, I will clean it

Looks like I will be washing my hats differently. I have about 20 hats and getting more all the time. Do you have favorite hats?. I have a Tractor Supply that is my all-time favorite hat. It is my work hat when I doing things around the property, it gets sweaty, stinky, nasty....but, it is like a comforting sweater on a winter's day.
Hmm, I have a few favorites. Currently I have a hat from Double Shovel Cider Company that has a teal Bill and a gray dome, and I really love that one!

My hat is now soaking. Wish me luck. This hat is pretty gross but it’s my favorite and couldn’t throw it away.

@@LeggLife two soaks later and major improvements but not good enough to wear. I am letting it dry and see where it lands out and maybe do a couple more. But it took those sweat stains right off. Amazing thank you. Been watching you guys for years. Just never commented before.

To dry my husbands hats I stuff it with a towel so that it will keep it’s shape better while it dries.
That’s a great tip to the hold the shape while drying

I use a baseball cap cage and throw them in the washing machine on cold.
I’ve definitely tried that method before as well.
Have you ever used dawn dish soap instead of laundry soap?
I haven't, but it could work.

Thanks for watching! I would do that with some of my hats. But, I like the results and the gentleness of this process. I think the hats last longer, especially for formed hats where the machine would just beat it up
