That was a really good video you really restored those hats. I've seen other hat cleaning videos that seems like they switched the old hat with new ones😂😂
Yes!! Cold water always! I haven't had color bleeding happen in a while, but the best way to prevent it is to try to dry the hat as fast as possible after washing. I've seen people use fabric markers to color over the staining, but I'm still searching for best methods
@@Premium32vtg theres carbona color run remover, havent try it. I felt that the reason my hat had color bleeding is because it was “new” so the dye was ran. It is vintage though so im suprise color was bleeding
This is a great comment. After wearing a hat a lot, yes I will wash it but I don’t really worry too much about storing in boxes. I just keep in a safe spot with Cedar blocks to keep the moths out
I got the hat mold over 2 years ago from a seller in New Zealand. I am currently working on manufacturing my own version and a good price so you don’t have to break the bank on one that is over $60
Hi, i tried washing a vintage hat. The patch on the front was white, now its off white, assuming i didn't dry it quuck enough. Any remedies for my f-up?
Sometimes unfortunately it’s impossible to prevent color bleeding, but also, if the hat was really dirty, the dirt in the water could have caused the hat to turn a cream/ off-white. You could try washing again with oxi clean and leaving it in direct sunlight which sometimes helps
When you get the hat wet you will be able to tell immediately. When the brim is cardboard it will get really flimsy when it is wet. I have a video that helps you with that. It’s the one about cleaning corduroy because most corduroy hats are cardboard
I also would wash it because if it smells, there’s something in it that is making if smell even thought the hats doesn’t have any dirt or sweat from wear
Usually autographs are really difficult to get out. Whenever I wash hats I usually rule out the chance of getting it out. I havnt figured out a good way to remove but to be sure I’d recommend being gentle on it
Cleanest hat restoring I’ve seen and I’ve been deep down the rabbit hole

Great video explained step by step, really appreciate that - would love to find a hat mold, any suggestions?
Thank you! I appreciate the support. I don't have any good sources of those, but I am working on sourcing my own.
Link to hat mold ? Want to reshape a few new era hats I have. Some come a bit too boxy in the front of the crown.
I don't have a direct source, but I'm working on making my own version. Stay posted
Good tutorial, I use cold water as well. Hot water ruins wool material hats. Have you had color bleeding on hats, if so bow do you fix it?
Yes!! Cold water always! I haven't had color bleeding happen in a while, but the best way to prevent it is to try to dry the hat as fast as possible after washing. I've seen people use fabric markers to color over the staining, but I'm still searching for best methods

Thanks, very informative. The proof is in the water!😮

I got it a while back and am also looking to find another
good ass tutorial man thanks
I gotchu!! You’re welcome! Glad this helps
Any tips for wool hats?
I do the same thing for wool; just a little more Jen’s than twill
How about wool fitted hats? Do the same?
Same thing! However, for shaping them, you may be better off using the towel method once you can’t tighten the hat around a mold with the snaps
Great video! Do you think this same method could be used for wool hats?
Yes!! The only difference is that I would recommend patting them dry because they may take longer to dry. Everything else is the same
Have man what steamer you use ? Can you use any steamer ?
Yeah any steamer will work. I use a big one by the brand Pure Enrichment, but any cheap handheld one off Amazon will do
Great cleaning video! What’s your rotation look like? After wearing a hat do you clean and then store in the plastic box?
This is a great comment. After wearing a hat a lot, yes I will wash it but I don’t really worry too much about storing in boxes. I just keep in a safe spot with Cedar blocks to keep the moths out
Where do you get the hat mold from
I got mine 2 years ago from a limited supply sale but working on sourcing my own soon!

@Premium32vtg the hat is black with a white embroidered patch. I'll try oxi-clean directly on the patch and see if that works. Thanks for responding!
yo WHERE did you get that MOLD? I cant find it????? I gottaaa have it bro
Got my first one a while back from snap_valley for $75 because they’re from New Zealand
I scared to wash my hat I recently bought at a vintage store. This gives me hope
Glad this could help!!
Where do you buy the brush? The one you used at the end of the video?
The brush I use is a soft-bristled brush I got in a Van’s shoe cleaning kit but any soft-bristled brush will work
Sweet video ! Where did you get your hat shaper from ?
Got my first one a while back from snap_valley for $75 because they’re from New Zealand
Is the hat supposed to be completely dry before you move to steaming and shaping?
Yes I would recommend drying it completely before shaping
I heard that some hats are cardboard or something, does that affect the cleaning process? Also how do i know if mine is cardboard?

I just bought a hat. It’s clean but has that vintage smell. Any recommendations there?
My go to for this is steaming
I also would wash it because if it smells, there’s something in it that is making if smell even thought the hats doesn’t have any dirt or sweat from wear
Will the towel portion help any with vintage foam trucker hats that have started to flop?
It should!! I’d recommend some starch spray to stiffen it up while you’re steamjng
