      That's because they are a philosophical and narrative mess. Not to mention they are a betrayal of the "free will" and "bringing down the system that is enslaving humanity" message that this movie sets up.
      Sure they have entertaining action, but that doesn't make a good movie.

    What you should realise is this trilogy is a metaphor for spiritual enlightenment. From a Buddhist or Hindu perspective to 'awaken' is to realise the true nature of reality,to become one with the universal consciousness. You like most viewers hated Cypher but don't be so hard on him for he represents most of us, unwilling to experience 'reality' preferring to remain ignorant in our ego's and materialistic world.
    Like Morpheus said "many of them are so inurd they will fight to protect it"

    I'm old. I got to watch this in a theater when it came out and I kind of pity that younger people don't get that experience, because it was just unreal at the time. I will always have a soft spot in my heart for it and will catch any reaction that pops up. As for the other sequels, you should see them at least once, to say you did. They fill in some holes and have some cool fight scenes, but they go off the rails a bit too much for me. I'm glad you enjoyed it. If you watch the others, I'll catch your vids and show some love.

      Projectors and a good studio monitor setup costs less than a big TV nowadays. Just get a projector, around 120" screen (that will fit on any wall in the tiniest apartment, speaking of experience here) and Fluid-FX8 or FX80s that will tear your walls down for the low price of 1500€ total.

    Thanks for this reaction. This is by far my favorite movie of all time. It literally changed me. The depth is endless.
    When I saw this in the theater in 1999, I walked out and looked at the sky and wondered if we were all just living in a virtual reality.
    So many details to this movie. I looked up several references and it helped to explain everything.
    Morpheus is the god of sleep who transformed a sleeper into a bird. Neo was asleep at the beginning and flew at the end.
    Neo is an anagram for One. Neo is the One. Same letters.
    The Hero's Journey is well presented here even better than in Star Wars. The best story lines fit in Joseph Campbell's explanation of ancient literature of how the hero gets pulled in and makes the sacrifice and then saves the day by living in 2 worlds. Joseph Campbell said that George Lucas was his greatest student when producing Star Wars, but I believe that the Matrix presents it far better if you understand the concept.
    Anyway, thanks for this reaction. I can tell that you actually get it and that further research is required to fully understand.
    Just research the names of the ship, the home, the characters and so on and you will get it. Hell, the name Thomas is about the Doubting Thomas who doesn't believe. Trinity was in room 303 where Neo got shot. Does the number 3 mean anything? You can spend hours digging into the meanings and it only makes you appreciate the movie even more. Just scratching the surface.
    Thanks again.

    One major complaint about this one, they say specifically if you die in the matrix you die in real life. Yet he didn't believe when he didn't make the jump from the building and basically fell to his death, but didn't die.

    • @ross8884
      @ross8884 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I might be wrong! BUT I think the idea is if the mind thinks it's dead "actually killed in the matrix" you die IRL. So they've made the road like a trampoline to keep you alive.

    • @Pixelologist
      @Pixelologist 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They weren't in the matrix itself there. They were in an adapted, training version of the matrix which allows them to set conditions - such as the trampoline effect on the road - designed to make it difficult for anyone to die there. At least, that's my take.

      The jump program, the training programs, and their loading program all are running on a modified form of the Matrix. They're not actually connected to the main program. That's why they can freeze it and freely alter it (like the Woman In Red swapping to an Agent). Neo didn't die in the real world because he didn't die in the jump program; his impact was absorbed and then he was just mildly injured. You can see that the ground act as almost like a foam crash pad.

    Although the sequels have entertaining action, they are a philosophical and narrative mess. Not to mention they are a betrayal of the "free will" and "bringing down the system that is enslaving humanity" message that this movie sets up. You my like them and be entertained, but you be tricked into thinking they are good movies.
    Fun Fact: Legendary Hong Kong stunt coordinator Woo-Ping Yuen initially refused to work on the film. Even after receiving the script, which he liked, he hoped that by asking for an exorbitant fee, it would turn off the Wachowskis. When that failed, he next gave what he considered an impossible request: he'd agree only if he had complete control of the fights, and that he be allowed to train the actors, with his own team, four months prior to shooting. The Wachowskis complied.

    I disagree with people that say to never watch the sequels. I think they are great in their own right. Just more fight scenes, and a lot of deep albeit sometimes confusing conversations. But great dialogue nonetheless. Plus you get to see the last human city of Zion, and just a lot of lore you’d be missing out on.

  • @Wanderer255
    @Wanderer255 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Definitely watch the sequels. Someone mentioned that they're a betrayal of the first film's message as if that's a negative, when I think that's one of their greatest assets. The first film is absolutely brilliant, one of my favorites, but it's very much a crowd-pleaser that postures with revolutionary ideas but ultimately falls in very conventional hero narrative. How much truth does it sacrifice to make the audience feel good? Without spoiling things, a major point of the sequels is that our rebel/oppressor narratives where we frame liberation through destroying the evil enemy can be just as much a Matrix as a literal one.
    As movies the sequels aren't as elegant or tightly constructed as the first, and can be a bit clumsy, but they're still incredibly enjoyable, entertaining movies with killer action sequences. Plus Matrix 4 is confirmed a direct sequel to the third film, so if you plan on watching that watching the sequels is essential.
    One thing though: you absolutely have to watch the Animatrix before diving into the sequels. It's an anthology of nine animated shorts that explore the world of the Matrix. They establish a lot of context for the sequels and are just damn good in and of themselves.

    The message of this film is true. It's not about machines or a digital simulation, that is only an analogy. Most people are looking at this movie through the wrong lense.
    "AI" is not about robots or technology, "AI/Artificial Intelligence" is in reference to false wisdom, the wisdom of the world, the blue pill 🔵. Because people do not like to retain the knowledge of God 🔴 in their minds, God allows people to have what they desire, and so they receive strong delusion and believe a lie, being asleep to the truth.
    1 Corinthians 1:22-29
    For after that in *the wisdom of God 🔴 *the world BY WISDOM 🔵 knew not God,* it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.
    22For the Jews require a sign 🔵, and the Greeks seek after wisdom🔵:
    23But we preach Christ crucified 🔴, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness;
    24But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.
    25Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
    26¶For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:
    27But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;
    28And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are:
    29That no flesh should glory in his presence.
    Matthew 11:15 - *He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.*
    Matthew 11:15 - *He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.*
