Yes Queensryche was way ahead of the time.. one the greatest rock bands to come out of the 80s, their music is very deep, the most underrated band of the Era

This song was released in 1990. The album was their biggest seller. The Empire album was very introspective. They wrote songs about current events and what was taking place in their own lives, having spent so much time touring in support of their previous album, Operation Mindcrime.
There are a lot of songs that make one emotional. Trust me, there isn’t one bad song on the album.
In my opinion, the classic Queensryche lineup did NOT write a bad song.
I loved seeing your honest reaction to a 30 year old video that is still relevant.

Empire was released back in 1990. You are very right when you said Queensryche was ahead of their time. They're my very favorite band and have been since I first discovered them in 1991. Ironically, I was still 8 years behind since their first album was 1983. If you feel music this strongly, then I recommend a song called ROADS TO MADNESS. It's extremely dark with deep lyrics but only the studio record version. The song has never been replicated live very well which sort of adds to its mystique. It cuts to the soul

QUEENSRYCHE is a Powerhouse band. Excellent live band. I’ve seen them 21 times over the decades from the first tour on up. It’s a thing seeing them point blank. It’s impossible to take your eyes of Geoff. He rules the stage and he knows it. The entire band is badass.

Awesome reaction. In case you were not looking at the lyrics during the video, here is the monologue commentary part of the song starting at minute 4:04:
"In fiscal year nineteen eighty six to eighty seven
Local, state and federal governments spent
A combined total of sixty point six million dollars on law enforcement
Federal law enforcement expenditures ranked last in absolute dollars
And accounted for only six percent of all federal spending
By way of comparison, the federal government spent twenty-four million more on space exploration
And forty-three times more on national defense and international relations than the law enforcement"
Keep up the great reactions. 😊

The song is talking about the Drug (Crack) epidemic that jumped off in the mid 80's and when it says Eastside meets Westside Downtown they are talking about the Gangs that were divided and set off against each other as each set were Fighting against each other for control of what block or what Territory that they are trying to defend against Rival Gangs or Law Enforcement.
The bottom line is that Queensryche went straight to the Streets for inspiration to make a record this song and I'm proud of them

  • @Bluesygal

Empress, this song was released in August 1990. And yet, it's still relevant today. Your assessment is on point. There's expression that says "Power corrupts...and corrupts completely." Empress, there's an amazing album by Marvin Gaye called What's Going On and was released in 1971. Every song on the album speaks to the social injustices in society. Each song segues into another song. Rolling Stone Magazine ranked it as the number one of their list of the top 500 albums of all time. Would love to see you react to it. You could start with the first song What's Going On.
You could do another song the next day. After What's Going On there's
    What's Happening Brother
    Flying High
    Save The Children
    God Is Love
    Mercy Mercy Me
    Right On
    Wholly Holy
    Inner City Blues
Thanks so much Empress for the sincerity of your reactions!❤

Drop the lyrics of this song into the people's midst living under any large centralized government going back millennia and it will be applicable. Black Sabbath's War Pigs is relevant today like it was in 1970 and as it would have been in 1000 B.C. Nothing changes but the date on the calendar.

"Eyes of a Stranger" by Queensryche has the single greatest falsetto in the chorus for hair band metal... NO ONE can provide another one that is close

    • @purplekat5864
      @purplekat5864 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Yes, the chorus of Eyes of a Stranger is gorgeous, but I'm pretty certain Geoff wasn't using falsetto. He really wasn't going very high (for him) on the chorus, but it WAS beautifully done!
Also, sorry, I don't mean to sound argumentative, but I don't believe QR can be termed a hair band"! They had hair, yes. But "hair band" is typically used to describe a band that doesn't have much else going for it except a lot of hair. This is NOT Queensryche.
Sorry again, "hair band" triggers me.

I like that they call out the US government on how they spend so little on not just law enforcement but they don't INVEST in communities. Especially poor communities which is where a lot of the crime is and it ISN'T about money, ots about the government's APATHY. They can spend 10 billion dollars on one Space Shuttle mission that really doesn't make a difference or mean anything, but they can't put 100 thousand dollars into a poor community to help with, oh I don't know, maybe a food bank so hunger isn't a problem, maybe some job training to help people help themselves. Things like that are actual INVESTMENTS not just a "handout" as non compassionate people see it

Hey there. I'm putting together a long-form video about Queensryche (30-60 minutes, estimated), focusing largely on their Mindcrime and Empire albums and how their social commentary remains uncomfortably relevant so many years later. Would you object to having part of your reaction video be featured in my own video? If so, I'll surely understand. Your reaction seemed so un-contrived and authentic, and perhaps indicative of many others' feelings on the topic. I'm probably not alone in saying I'd love to be a fly on the wall if you ever decide to explore the Mindcrime album in its entirety, as well :) Thanks so much for such a touching and genuine reaction to a truly (and unfortunately) third rail topic. Cheers!

Thank you for your honesty, you are quite wise. Sadly, singing about corruption within government will keep your songs relevant for generations. The true cost of security is always the same, It always needs to be more than the bribe. Until we as a people take away the bribes to the law makers the system will not change. I wish you strength and courage. Peace/JT

The lyric that includes "Education" could be a reference to the education others on the streets say is important, which is to learn how to survive. The whole song is about the government fleecing the population while pretending to be providing for the citizens, and how people are influenced from those on the streets to sell drugs or "hustle" and to disregard what the government presents as how to live. It is this dichotomy of living a certain way that makes it difficult for youth today to know which path to take.

The 80's kids were left to their own devices. Now that generation is legalizing drugs. I was 16 in 82 when AXl Rose arrived in LA. Most of my friends were dealers of all drugs in the first computer designed communities during white flight in Orange county Ca. Guns was a reflection of that time and most of us are lucky to still be here. Most of my old friends are dead and we all got kicked out of school. No one helped
