  • Today Sarah is watching The Matrix (1999) for the first time! The Matrix (1999) was directed by Lana and Lilly Wachowski and stars Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Hugo Weaving. The film follows Neo's awakening from the Matrix, a simulated world designed to keep humans subservient to machines.
Is Neo the one? Will he be able to save humanity? And why is everyone always wearing sunglasses???

The kiss was a connection to the real world in that moment, a reminder, allowing Neo's mind to fully release his attachment to the reality within the Matrix, that's why he came back, he wasn't REALLY shot and remember that Morpheous says: "The mind makes it real." so Neo, finally understanding this, KNEW that "there is no spoon."

Precisely! In fact, during the Medieval times. When death was by guillotine. An experiment was conducted to find out just how long a person would live after having their head chopped off. The experiment involved asking questions, and the victim, answering those questions by blinking their eyes. It was found that a person could live 1 - 2 minutes, without their head.
So you are correct as the kiss, was merely a reminder.

The Matrix probably had THE BEST viral marketing campaign leading to the release of the movie. The commercials, the print adverts, and trailers were mesmerizing and was a phenomenon in and of itself. It was full of intrigue and totally lured people in. And the movie did not disappoint! Obviously a classic now! DARK CITY came out around the same time and is a classic itself.

Best line ever put to trailer.
It's literally Morpheus telling the audience that they have to see the movie if they want to know . Also the trailer gives nothing away but at the same time it intrigued you.. You want to know.. You want to know more.
In 1999 the matrix has you.

The kiss that brings him back to life is not that unbelievable. While what happens in The matrix can affect his brain and make him think he was dead. He did not get actually shots six times. But in the real world his ears can audibly hear what she's saying to him and she did bring him back to life. Because he realized that what was happening was not real.

Good video. A suggestion : if one of you has already seen it, please don't give too many hints. You only
did it at the beginning. It makes for a better experience. Figuring out things in the dark is one of the
strength of this movie. The plot moves forward, the mystery is unveiled even during fight scenes (usually
the plot stops during an action sequence but not here) a true modern masterpiece.

This movie still gives me chills at the start, when the music kicks in.
This movie also got a whole generation questioning the nature of reality, its impact is still here; the phrase unplugging from the matrix is common parlance.

When this first came out i blown away, i came out thinking 'what kind of a mind could create something like this?' But only because i wasn't versed in that kind of philosophical musings. Truth be told it's a story as old as the written word, but the bullet time was awe inspiring when it first came out, my jaw was on the floor.
The sequels aren't as good but they finish the story, and still have epic moments in them, well worth the reaction to them.....plus, Matrix rewatches always get good numbers to ur channel, so there's that ✌

I remember going to see this in the cinema when it came out and it was at the time the only movie i went back to watch 3 more times, it used a lot of new CGI and innovated new camera capture methods. One of the things i really liked is that it did not explain the plot to the audience in the first few min like a lot of films do, and in other films they spell out the plot so the viewer mostly knows what is happening before the screen character does where as matrix you are as clueless as the character and both learn whats going on at the same time. It is a sadly underused story telling method these days as people do not want to learn or wait

The glasses used in movies in scenes with gunfights most of the time do look cool, but in reality its to hide the fact that all the actors shooting the guns are blinking! Blinking looks less cool in gunfights scenes, so to get around that, sunglasses! Totally impractical in a real situation, but in a movie it kinda works, lol

Greatly enjoyed the reaction! A couple things I wanted to point out, the Oracle said he was waiting for his "next life", and he didn't realize his abilities until after Smith killed him. They foreshadowed the crap out of it lol. Wanted to ask if you can increase the video volume in your reactions, could hear you clear as a bell, but the movie audio was very very quiet. Really enjoyed your commentary!

I never liked this film and certainly didn't feel the wow factor simply because I have been reading philosophy for a few yrs now especially on Idealism. Some of these concepts are way more amazing than what this film offers. Also Keanu was great in Bill And Ted but he comes across wooden is too many films he's been in.

Loved your reaction ^^ The sunglasses represent the people who are aware of the matrix that's why the agents wear them too. Also, you'll know why the oracle is in the matrix and not the real world in matrix 2 reloaded.
But before reacting to matrix 2 reloaded, you really MUST react to the animatrix (or watch on your own if you really can't).
These are 9 shorts stories on the matrix universe who helps to understand it and to elarge the universe and the lore. Actually there are only 4 of the 9 that really matters to better understand the matrix sequels :
-The second Renaissance : It's a matrix prequel which tells what happened between humans and machines and why the matrix was created
    -A kid's story : Origin story of a new character in matrix 2 & 3
-Last flight of the Osiris : It's an introduction to matrix reloaded, litterally a couple of hours before.
Btw, and unfortunetly, Tank (the operator) won't be on matrix 2 & 3 because the actor had schedules issues.
Btw, matrix 2 (reloaded) and matrix 3 (revolutions) are actually a 4 hours film cut in two parts (they were shot back to back) and this is why they were both released the same year with only a 6 months gap. A little bit like the lord of the rings wich were shot back to back as well.
Can't wait to see your reactions to the matrix sequels (and perhaps animatrix) :)
