    My brother asked me to go with him when he picked up a secondhand Cannondale Caad 10, to make sure it was safe and worth the asking price! What we would was an absolute stunner, lucky him!

      That’s only because a drivers license is €2500, gas is €10/gallon, car taxes are €1000+ per year, and a car like a Ford Explorer or mustang costs €75000...
      It’s not like Europe is better because if policy, just their socialists and monarchs had to make concessions after making everyone live poor (compared to the USA) to avoid being voted out... Revolution is out of the question because those incumbents already took all their weapons after the Nazis killed the ones who resisted...

    Sometimes you can find gems when buying used. That's how I recently found my Lynskey Cooper road bike. Maybe a 7 year old frame but still looks great with 105 groupset, Enve fork, and Bontrager XXX lite carbon wheels. Man, it was love at first sight.

    When buying used bicycle, you should also check the frame around and under bottom bracket. There can also be a hided crack, as well as under the seat post. Also when buying used, You should also check are the wheels spinning good or are they twisted, and also the rim brake surface. If it's not worn out, that can tell You that a bike didn't put too many miles.
    I just bought the same used bike yesterday. The frame has here and there a tiny scratch, but is in overall good condition, groupset like new, and I got it with it pedals, bike computer, bottle cages and home trainer. Everything for 500 euros. A bargain!

    Checking headset looseness should be done when holding the front brake only. By holding both brakes, you lock the relative position of the frame and fork making it a lot harder to tell. Nice bike though, hope he enjoys it!

      @@JanKowalski-pe9lo When coming to a creaking bb there are several ways to go to solve the problem, in your case it might just be that your friend had some misaligned bearings (it could happen during the install ) or some poor quality machining on them (fabrication error). I bought a Specialized Tarmac off the popular auction site.
    Serviced "apparently" but when I lifted it from the carriage box I immediately knew the headset was shot.
    Four hours work had it replaced and bike checked.cleaned and greased.
    Spare set of wheels thrown in.....Owner had tried to replace rear spoke which had obviously broken ( evidence by paint worn off inner chain stay due to wheel running out of true ) .Spoke threaded incorrectly as well. Stupidly I didn't spot odd wheels in picture with one original and one from other set.
    The moral is caveat emptor ! Great bike by the way....now.

    The last of the top quality Cannondale aluminum frames are the CAAD 9's. Built in Bedford, Pennsylvania, USA. NOBODY out performs Cannondale when it comes to aluminum frames. The welds on most of them are flawless. They dont even look welded. They almost look like the earlier Trek aluminum frames that were bonded. That good.

    This year I set the goal to be more proficient with getting to know/ repairing my road bike. What’s the best way to learn about the mechanical aspect of cycling?

    • @anthonyshillingford848
      @anthonyshillingford848 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      First, learn simple bike emergency repairs - things lke repairing a puncture, or re-setting a "sprung" chain - these are things that can (and do) happen on a ride, and these repairs will get you home. Next is a matter of time and need, but simply put, just make a commitment (as you have) to do your own maintenance. You build up your knowledge and tools as you go. Honestly, appart from saving money on very specialized tools - there's no need to go to a bike shop to maintain your bike. One last point, if you REALLY want to learn about bike mechanics in a condensed way.....build a bike from the frame up. This is not the cheapest route, but you WILL learn very fast, and it feels great to know the bike you're riding was custom assembled by you.
