    Both Shin Ultraman and Ultraman Rising represent hope, but in two different coats. Shin is more philosophical, more observant of it's themes, Rising on the other hand is personal, we see characters genuinely take on drastic changes, we can genuinely relate to them on a fundamentally intimate level.

    I thought this movie was great for what it was trynna do
    It wasn't another repetitive,recreation of the old but instead a brand new,fresh piece of ultra media for old fans,and quite possibly the greatest starting point for new fans

    • @kennethsatria6607
      @kennethsatria6607 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +21

      Regardless of repetition I think the world needed to be reminded of how inspiring Ultraman can be from Shin Ultraman, it really says something when the guy who made as bleak a work as Evangelion and I suppose also Shin Godzilla had that much faith and reverance in classic ultraman and what the hero stood for that he chose Ultraman to stay as he remembered while the world was the one modernized and cynical of the hero.
      Rising just did it in a different way. Though I think the movie would be able to bridge the gap between the very young fans just being introduced to Ultraman and the older ones through its themes and story.

    • @Ashraff-vt1kl
      @Ashraff-vt1kl 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Oh you mean Shinjiro? Yeah, he's somewhat of a different case. So here's the thing:
      Reason why Kenji is able to become an Ultra himself is because his dad was an Ultra himself. Yeah, he came from the land of light, he is just doing what Seven and Mebius did, make his own human form. Because of that he was probably successful in passing down his Ultra genes to Kenji.
      Shinjiro on the other hand, is the son of Shin Hayata who had parted with his version of Ultraman long before he was born. Note, this timeline is an alternate timeline to the OG Showa verse. Because of that, Shinjiro could be considered a hybrid, since he is more half human and half Ultra. It's important to remember that Ultraman and Shin Hayata are two different people, Ultraman just had Shin Hayata as a host and as a result, Shin indirectly passed the Ultra genes to his son
      TLDR, both Shinjiro and Kenji had VERY different circumstances to their birth and how that played into their powers. Simply put, Kenji's the son of an actual alien while Shinjiro is more like an inheritor of the alien that fused with his father, giving him the powers of an Ultra without becoming one

    I've watched Ultraman Rising with my friend in july and absolutely loved it, so I've been getting into the rest of the franchise since then. I've watched Ultra Q and I'm currently watching the original Ultraman series (unfortunately my watching pace is waaay too slow at this point because of college and other personal life tasks/responsibilities), and it's been such an amazing experience so far! In my country (Brazil) the most popular tokusatsu franchise amongst the majority of kids/teens is Power Rangers and I didn't enjoyed it as a kid, so growing up I just thought all tokusatsus were basically the same and the genre just wasn't for me...I'm so glad Ultraman is proving me wrong and I'm getting to know such a fun and loving franchise.

    I like this take on Ultraman so much more than the ones in Japan, he has a heart. I feel like a lot of Shōwa Ultras would have killed the baby anyway. A kinder gentler Ultra that isn't just Cosmos is one that the series needs for me personally to truly care. I always feel so sorry for the kaiju getting fucking brutalized before finally put down ( and most Ultra's often capable of just batting the monsters around and the kaiju can't even put up a fight back makes it even worse). Godzilla artist Jeff Zornow put it best on X back in March where for a lot of us that have sympathy for the kaiju is very hard to be an Ultraman fan cause it feels like the so called "Hero" is kicking puppies to death Also those of us that feel that way are often watching Ultraman for the kaiju themselves and not the Ultra ( and I will be the first to admit that the lead Ultra of whatever series Bandai Namco ahs spit out that year is my least favorite part
    )

    • @spearsage
      @spearsage 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +17

      I believe once or twice, when they're not dealing with obviously malicious kaijuus (oftentime invading alien or engineered lifeform, oftentime by alien hands), ultramans always seem to put destroying/killing the kaijuu as last resorts. Especially when said kaijuu is a part of endemic legend, or simply innocent/has no malicious intent.
      Granted, the malicious kind often outnumber the episodes where the current ultraman spares the kaijuu they fight (mostly because it's the driving force of the narration) , but these rare episodes of the ultras trying to solve the problem in other way than making the kaijuu explode should still count.
      Even before Cosmos, this kind of plot also occasionally happen.
      I think this rarely seen visage of Ultramans are shown very well in Ultraman Rising.
      That they're on Earth as equalizer, sometimes against alien invasion, and sometimes against humans themselves.

    • @genericweeb7300
      @genericweeb7300 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      With all due respect, Jeff's opinion feels like an uninformed take in broad strokes.
      Not all monsters in the franchise are victims. In fact, only a handful of iconic ones actually fit the bill.
      More than often (especially post-Showa) they are either from an invasive alien species, malicious bioweapons, envoys of a cosmic destruction entity, and sometimes even literal spawns of evil. Thus generalizing them as "poor puppies being kicked around by a bad hero" is disingenuous.
      Worst case scenario, they're oversized wild animals that may endanger civilians thus had to be put down - which usually when is the case, is always criticized by the show's own narrative sooner or later.
      As a matter of fact, this was the whole point of Ultraman Gaia and Ultraman Z.
