Because Darth Vader and Anakin Skywalker were two separate people when this movie came out, it was only in the second version of the script for The Empire Strikes Back that Darth Vader and Anakin Skywalker became the same person

Yes, it was only after the success of the classic that George Lucas decided to add the plot twist in the sequel. He was able to do it without contradicting any of the material from the classic.

That's just it. If he had given into his emotions he may not have had the lightside clout to become a jedi ghost. In this fight Kenobi "wins" by becoming one with the force, and giving Luke more time before he has to confront Vader.

In the Obi-Wan Kenobi show when Obi-Wan calls Darth Anakin Darth says “Anakin is gone, I am what remains.” So that’s another reason why Obi-Wan didn’t call him Anakin.
Pretty sure was fact they had no clue it would go beyond that film and hadnt even considered the lore.
When technically the main reason was that george lucas hadn't decided to call him anakin at the time until the return of the jedi

When obi wan meets Luke he tells him his fathers name was anakin. In episode 5 the emperor calls Luke the son of anakin skywalker. In episode 6 Luke calls Vader anakin. His name was always anakin. We just didn’t know it was Darth til episode 5

This one of my favourite things about Star Wars they don’t like retconning stuff and they just come up with explanations for things that were semi thought out ❤
It's probably only a fortunate accident, but the way Alec Guiness said "Darth" sounds derisive and almost mocking. That works in the context established by the prequels.

I have another in-universe theory that’s from the kenobi show : the last thing obi wan says to anakin/vader when he understood that anakin was gone was « goodbye, Darth » so since then he knew there was no more anakin left

I love how they tied it in with the TV show. How at the end he said Darth.
If he called him Anakin, it would have only brought more questions and mystery to the plot. It's not like they would have suddenly been all "Oh its Anakin from the prequels that haven't been made yet!"

At the time that film was made, George Lucas was even sure Empire Strikes Back would be made, so it's fair to assume, Obi Wan (Alan) didn't know at that time who was under that helmet.
It’s so sad what happened to Anakin and Obi Wan’s relationship. The fight on Mustafar always makes me a bit emotional, because they really were brothers.
Videos like this are good when they explain something often misunderstood. This however is something only known to someone who didn't watch the films.

The real reason that Lucas did not know what will be the original name of Vader yet.
It's incredible how well acted Alec Guinness acted out a story that was being written. Obi Wan Kenobi was an equally tragic character as Anakin Skywalker. The losses he faced are staggering and a testament to his mental toughness. Obi Wan was a true warrior and...a good friend.❤

Retcon, the reason he calls him Darth is because his name is Darth Vader, it was his name not a title.
In the show (Obi-wan) they fight and he tells obi-wan “anakin is dead I am what remains” and “you did not kill Anakin I did” and when Obi-wan is leaving he calls him Darth no longer calling him Anakin

I think too the real reason was because either George didn’t fully plan out yet if Vader’s identity was actually Anakin, or George didn’t want us to know it yet.

To me, I always thought that he refused to call Vader by his real name because he no longer considered him Anakin.
The real reason is that George didn’t have that in the script until a last minute rewrite of the empire strikes back so technically at that point he “WASN’T” anakin and ACTUALLY LITERALLY killed and luke wasn’t leias brother he was just a guy lol

When they met in Episode 4, what happened in Mustafar had not happened yet, so there's no way he could remember it.
I know it's hard to understand this, but this is a work of fiction that was created on the go, little by little as the authors got inspired at each specific installment.
Only affect his chances of winning a fight that he lost… I think those dual suns burnt up some of his brain… or maybe it was that “save leia” retcon.

Yeah, nevermind that he called him Anakin several times in the Obi-Wan series.
It's because the fans made "Darth" a title instead of his name. Lucas liked this idea and rolled with it. Kinda like lightsabers. It was always going to be just blue and red. When filming in Tunisia, he realised you couldn't really see the light saber against the brilliant blue sky, so he made it green. The fans did the rest and Lucas respected this. Shame that KK didn't.
