How to program the Hobbywing Max 6 (also max 5, max 8, and max 10) ESC WITHOUT a programming card.

- Due to the lack of videos on how to program the Max 6 esc without the programming card, I figured I would make a video. I was told that this is the same process for the other Hobbywing ESC's but can't confirm it. If it does work, your options may very so make sure to read your instruction manual to make sure you're programming the right option.
Absolutely no words ❤ worked like a charm. My max 5 kept cutting out after letting go of the throttle and I followed steps in the video and changed few settings and it’s working solid again.
Very useful! For some reason the most obvious is never in the manual :D

Proper video good job, basically it’s the same way you operate a Spektrum Firma ESC except there’s no drag brake with a Firma but there is an 8.4 V setting that the max doesn’t have. Nice to know my DX 5C will have telemetry as well. Thanks for the info bruv

Thanks, as a noob in rc world it seems that i've switched Running mode to mode 1 ..... i was wondering why reverse doesn't work anymore, called my local dealer that telled me that maybee i've entered the program mode instard of binding mode .. and BINGOOOO ... thanks for this clear video, anyway, i will return to my local rc shop to buy reinforced stuff .. (ok .. it will break on another pieces ^^)

Yep. Definitely can. However, if you happen to have a crawler, the Hobbywing 1080 ESC comes with a programming card that can also be used on the Max 6.

I have a Hobbywing Quicrun WP-8BL150 G2 and this method doesnt seem to work for me. Once I hold set and power on while keeping set pressed, its just a continuous beep beep beep with the red light flashing? Any ideas...?
I also have one of those and this doesn't work for it. But because it's a quicrun, I'm able to use a program card I already had that came with my crawler esc. If you don't have one, obviously that doesn't help you so you may just have to buy a card. Idk any other way to program the 8BL. It's not a bad esc but I'd personally recommend a higher quality esc for a truck this big and heavy, like the Max 6 that I have.
@@Kmcornell23im getting the same issue but i have a max 10. I used your vid to do my vaterra and it worked great. Thanks for that. But on the kyosho. It juet beeps. To me thats showing an error of not being calobrsted but ive done that multiple times.

This seems easy enough. But how much easier is the programming card?
The program cards are pretty easy. Just click a button to select which option you want to adjust and click another button to cycle though them. It's definitely faster and you can do more than 1 setting at a time. But it costs money and you have to wait to get it shipped. Plus you generally set your truck up once and then don't touch it again so the program card seems like a waste.
@@Kmcornell23 that makes sense. Honestly the only thing I'd want to do is set the throttle for a lower power. And I don't think the card even does that
I have the Max 6 g2 with no set button,only power. Is there a way to do this still?
Not that I'm aware of. On the new stuff, pressing and holding the set button get it into calibration mode but MAYBE if you keep holding the button, it might go into a programming mode. I'm just guessing and don't own the V2 Max 6 so I can't say if the options are the same. If you have the manual, it may say it in there.

You are correct. But the way they describe how to do it can be difficult for many to understand. If you scroll through the comments, there are tons of people thanking me for making this video. I even struggled at first and had looked around to try and figure out how to program the ESC. After not finding anything, I decided to try and figure it out again and once I did, I made the video to help others. It's by far my most popular video so clearly it's not as easy as just reading the instructions.

Tried with Max8, in fact does not work, I held the set button for like 30 seconds, made this reply for anyone else looking for answer
Question mine beeps 3 times instead of 8 times since I'm running 2 4s batteries
That's not a question and I'm also running 2 4s batteries.
Do you know why mine would be cutting out on 4s but not 6s? Like it’s going in to thermal cutoff
My only guess is that the 4s battery can't provide enough power. Maybe you have a cell going bad or something? If the voltage of the battery drops too low then it'll just cut off.
When I have my max 6 in lvc low its cuts off and the battery is almost completely drained. Please help. I thought it qoukd cut off with at least 12% battery left. It's on auto low maybe I should change it to intermediate??
That's how low the voltage gets before it cuts off. My manual doesn't specify voltages but it's pro 3.0v for low, 3.2v for intermediate, and 3.4v for high. I run mine on high because low cell voltage is bad for lipos.

No because steering rate is set with your transmitter.

Nice video, but one thing I didn't quite understand, you mentioned early in the video "throttle limits". What did U mean by that?
I have Max10 120a, am using a 9000kv 3650 motor, and when I press full throttle, the ESC seems to cut off power and I can never reach full speed.
Not sure if the motor is too Powerful or as U mentioned there is a throttle limit? Hope that makes sense???
Calibrating your throttle limits is done on the controller. You'd have to look up a video on that. It would NOT make your throttle cut out though. It sounds like you're overheating the esc. Are you sure the motor is 9000kv? That seems REALLY high. A max 10 should use something like a 3500kv motor.

The max 5 doesn't have a sensored option. So yes, it runs sensorless out of the box.

I'm not sure what you mean by that but ESC's auto detect how many cells they are running.
Sorry I meant does option 2 change the LIPO cell to two s and option 3 3s
How to you program the other items? Example, Bec voltage
It's all done the same way. BEC voltage is number 7.

Yeah idk I was trying to set it cuz my servo isn’t working since I put in the esc. I’ll probably just take it to a hobby shop I was just trying to avoid paying extra
For some reason the motor overheats with the max 6 esc
If the motor is overheating is usually because it's geared too high or you have something binding in your drivetrain like a bad bearing. It'll also overheat if you're doing speed runs. You can put in better fans to help combat that though.

If you're following the steps correctly and it's still not working, I'd send it back for a replacement.

I would assume it should. I don't have a Max 8 to test it out on so you'd just have to try it.
