I just got a new standard size analog Hitec servo for steering and it makes that "overextended sound"(1:51) at all times, in any position, even without a horn on it. Is it a defective unit?

Is there a way to adjust steering trim so the knob is centered on the tqi? To go straight i have to clock it to the right. I adjusted the servo horn and I can't get it perfectly straight. I either have to clock the knob to the right or the left. Is it possible to reset the steering trim to center?
Usually the knob is not centered because the servo is usually off center a little from where the vehicle is. You can't reset steering trim per say, but you can adjust sub trim, which is like a more precise trim to use, before the actual steering trim. Go to 5:34 in the video and look at the program tree, and notice directly above the end points, is sub trim. Hows the servo saver in your vehicle? Sometimes when they start to wear down, the steering gets sloppy and doesn't center. When driving, it feels like the car just steers where it wants to, like "wandery". -Brett
@@AMain_Hobbies thanks for the reply. I'm kinda new to the sport. So what does the sub trim do? I did what the traxxas manual says and I'm not seeing any changes.
Hey, you're welcome@@jadebylund7061. Here is an explanation copied from the TQi manual: The Sub-Trim function is used to precisely set the neutral point of the steering or throttle servo in the event that simply setting the trim knob to “zero” does not completely center the servo. When selected, Sub-Trim allows finer adjustment to the servo output shaft's position for precise setting of the neutral point. This might help you center up the servo without maxing out the knob on your transmitter. What vehicle do you have? -Brett
@@AMain_Hobbies is on a rustler 4x4 vxl. I just changed the servo out after the original died. I've had it 3 months now and the servo savers still seem okay.
Hello, So I just pretty much just built a B74.1D. I have a 3PV Transmitter. I just wondering if my EPA sounds proper to you. So I have the Trim set to R 45. its the best I can get it.. I adjusted the EPA per your fist part of the adjustments the Aftermarket Transmitter.. So the L is 60 and the R is 84. Its seems kind of ODD the right is more extreme then the left?! I Built the Car to Spec. I used a Digital Calipers. Im wondering Does this sound Right? Thank you John
The number values are not really significant and you will always have one side with a higher value. It does not mean one side has more steering, it just means one side needs more servo throw. As long as you set your epa's correctly, the mechanical parts in the steering assembly will receive the correct amount of servo throw to achieve maximum steering angle (that amount of servo throw can vary side to side). It sounds like you have correctly set your epa's. Hopefully this makes sense. Have fun racing! -Brett
@@AMain_Hobbies Sadly I have no clue what I am Doing!!! Ive always had a Basic Futaba Radio. I just made both sides the same. Not sure what that did. These newer Radios have Way TO Much for anyone to get to know, Even a Disabled person.. Sorry..
@@johnm8558 John, I just got done telling you the values don't matter. All that matters, is your servo doesn't try to overthrow the limits of the mechanical steering system. Please, watch the video again. -Brett
Brett in your video for the Traxxas EPA setup, was the steering trim knob supposed to be all they way counter clockwise and not set to 0? I thought I saw in some other videos and thought you said you want to make sure the steering trim is set to 0 before adjusting your EPA, so just was curious before I swap out my servo in my Maxx since I think the stock servo is shot.
You'll want to center the steering so the truck goes straight before you set the EPA's. When installing a new servo, you'll want to completely center the servo when you add the servo horn. Sometimes I'll put a horn on the servo and turn it untill I see where the horn needs to be, and then adjust by picking up the horn and reinstalling. Once i'm good, screw on the horn. You can also turn on the model and let the servo center (but be sure to set steering trim to 0 for this). Once you get the servo installed, turn on the model and center the steering with the trim knob so the truck drives straight, then set your EPA's. Hope that helps Donnie! -Brett
@@AMain_Hobbies Brett I think in understand, I will take a try at it tonight and if I get stuck I will message you back. But sounds straight forward but we will see if I get messed up when actually doing it. Much appreciated as always.
@@AMain_Hobbies Brett I got it installed question I have is when I turn the when to left or right when I let it go it doesn't go am the way back to center. Not sure if it is just tires gripping the floor but just seemed odd why it wouldn't bounce back to straight (it is just off by a bit but you can definitely tell not straight)
@@DonnieKluck Hmm, most likely the servo saver in the steering system of the maxx. It's the two plastic pieces on the left steering post. Unfortunately, they're not adjustable, so after a year of use or so they should be replaced to get back some steering precision. After use, the two pieces slide on each other with dust and grit, and they sand each other down, making slop. This is my guess, there is no other reason it. Checkout those pieces. I think we talked about it in the Maxx upgrade video. Yeah: go to 6:00 in the video: th-cam.com/video/l-zNaLi59aY/w-d-xo.html -Brett

Anything with lots of torque will do the job, and then maybe waterproof if you need that. This WP250T is a good waterproof option: www.amainhobbies.com/ecopower-wp250t-waterproof-mega-torque-metal-gear-metal-case-servo-ecp-250t/p1466471 This savox is not waterproof, but a little more powerful: www.amainhobbies.com/savox-sb2290sg-black-edition-monster-torque-brushless-steel-gear-servo-sav-sb-2290sg/p536890 And this 1K TBL is the big daddy for power: www.amainhobbies.com/protek-rc-1ktbl-black-label-ultra-high-torque-brushless-waterproof-crawler-servo-ptk-1ktbl/p1331854 The first servo is probably more than enough for your truck and what I'd pick. Another component to think about is an upgraded servo saver. Stock servo savers are often set loose and spongy to protect the weak included servo, but with the downside they can absorb some of the steering instead of putting it down to the tires. So a good remedy, as long as you have a more powerful servo, is to use an aftermarket servo saver that you can adjust, and then tighten it up a little. In some cases, you notice an improvement in steering response immediately. -Brett

(any reliable servo suggestions for 2.8 HP tires besides the eco power 120T?
If it doesn't have an EPA setting, does it have a dual-rate knob? It might be labeled "D/L" If you turn down the dual-rate, that will limit the steering travel for both tires together, where EPA does the left and right side independently, but at least it should help save your servo if its overextended. -Brett

@@AMain_Hobbies is on a rustler 4x4 vxl. I just changed the servo out after the original died. I've had it 3 months now and the servo savers still seem okay.
Hello,
So I just pretty much just built a B74.1D.
Thank you
John
The number values are not really significant and you will always have one side with a higher value. It does not mean one side has more steering, it just means one side needs more servo throw. As long as you set your epa's correctly, the mechanical parts in the steering assembly will receive the correct amount of servo throw to achieve maximum steering angle (that amount of servo throw can vary side to side).
It sounds like you have correctly set your epa's. Hopefully this makes sense. Have fun racing!

Sadly I have no clue what I am Doing!!!

@@AMain_Hobbies sorry
Im just tying to figure out this 3pv!
I have L and R set at 62 the right one goes to 62 so I just made them the same..
Thank you
Sorry so what do you do when you own an older traxxas with a non iQ transmitter?
How old? Maybe this video will help: th-cam.com/video/IShP13NAqgg/w-d-xo.html&feature=emb_title

@@AMain_Hobbies Brett..... as always... PERFECT! Cheers mate, you ledge!
What about drift cars that have wide angles like Yokomo YD2S or the 3Racing Sakura D4?
Those vehicles are designed to have more steering angle than an average vehicle, but the end points still need to be set.

@@AMain_Hobbies Brett I think in understand, I will take a try at it tonight and if I get stuck I will message you back. But sounds straight forward but we will see if I get messed up when actually doing it. Much appreciated as always.
@@DonnieKluck You got this Donnie! Let me know how it goes.
-Brett
Yeah: go to 6:00 in the video: th-cam.com/video/l-zNaLi59aY/w-d-xo.html

Hello. In my spectrum dx3 I can't obtain full end points stering. Why? I have Losi 5t. Turn left . turning left I get the maximum but turning right is missing the scale on the rc remote and I do not get the maximum. While by hand, I am able to turn the wheels even more to the right. What is wrong?
Is this when you are trying to set the end points like in the video, or when steering normally?

What’s a good upgraded servo for arrma notorious 6s v5 blx
Anything with lots of torque will do the job, and then maybe waterproof if you need that. This WP250T is a good waterproof option: www.amainhobbies.com/ecopower-wp250t-waterproof-mega-torque-metal-gear-metal-case-servo-ecp-250t/p1466471
This savox is not waterproof, but a little more powerful: www.amainhobbies.com/savox-sb2290sg-black-edition-monster-torque-brushless-steel-gear-servo-sav-sb-2290sg/p536890
And this 1K TBL is the big daddy for power: www.amainhobbies.com/protek-rc-1ktbl-black-label-ultra-high-torque-brushless-waterproof-crawler-servo-ptk-1ktbl/p1331854
The first servo is probably more than enough for your truck and what I'd pick.

@@nopeairsoft469 Are you burning through servos too? I've burned through 3 already. One stock and 2 of the upgraded servos.
How do I change the OE Servo in my Maxx truck to a 2085x Servo? (MAXX Truck)
Just remove the old servo, and install the new. It's a direct swap. Remove the brace above the servo and you should have direct access.

My gosh, I just got the Traxxas 330 servo It sucks!!!!. The horn Won't center align right after I took my Rustler 4x4 vxl 4 times. Endpoints are set properly but it still wines loudly. but how do i change my stearing angle with a wltoys controller?? plz answer i really need help im breaking my car
If it doesn't have an EPA setting, does it have a dual-rate knob? It might be labeled "D/L"
If you turn down the dual-rate, that will limit the steering travel for both tires together, where EPA does the left and right side independently, but at least it should help save your servo if its overextended.
-Brett

I don't understand how to set that EPA on my Carson Reflex Wheel Start transmitter...
I don't quite understand the manual, I can't tell if it's explained or not (poor english)

Can someone help? I have a traxxas Ford gt, when I drive it wobbles back and forth, I believe the servo is swaying
Sounds like the servo saver parts, give them a check! They wear out over time and stop holding straight, so the car will wonder.

So if I have a tq transmitter I can’t set my endpoints?
Unfortunately no you can't.

Shouldn’t you keep the wheels off the ground? I’ve always done it off the ground.
Can someone tell me how to do it with a stock xp130 transmitter?
Unfortunately you can't set the left and right independently, but you can back down the throw as a whole using the steering dual-rate knob.

Reset them? You should only need to set your endpoints once.
