wow, I'm British and I always thought American police cars were black and white. I never knew about these green, white and black cars. I just looked at some of these classic police cars on TH-cam and was pleased to see some green, black and white cars. If I get this plastic model kit then I'm going to do the same as you because it's kind of unique. Another great build. Thanks.
Police car color schemes vary from location. Black and whites are in Los Angeles and California Highway Patrol which you probably see in movies and TV shows like CHiPs and The Terminator. In New York they are currently blue and white. Pre 1970s NYPD have the green, white and black as seen in old movies such as the seven ups and the French connection. Are british police cars white with a blue and yellow grid stripe across the middle?
@@davidchin350 Thanks for the info. Here in London our police force is known as the Metropolitan Police. Their cars have what is known as the Battenburg design which are large blue and yellow squares down both sides of the car and that was from about 2012. I believe it's the same for the other polices in the rest of the UK. I personally hate the way our police cars look nowadays. I prefer the 70s style when they were just blue and white, much like your current NYPD colours.
Very nice build there David! I like that You stepped up the build with the paint scheme too! What really "WoWs" Me is that You made Your own decals! Great job on those!! That is something I have to get the hang of! Thank You for sharing with Us here in tubeland! Take Care, Be Safe, God Bless, Later
Glad you like it Russell. The decals would have been better if I had a laser printer but it tends to bleed since I used an Ink jet. It's better than not having any vintage NYPD decals. Thanks for watching and commenting.🙂👍
Hi David, beautiful build! I just finished the same kit using the New York State Police yellow and blue colors. Love how you made the vintage decals too!!!
Hey David. Great job. You mentioned about no separation screen, I made one once for a 78 Ramcharger that I converted into a sheriffs truck, I used an old roll bar piece from a General Lee model, some plastic mesh that you can get at a dollar tree and some .040 styrene strip plastic. Measure the mesh to the roll bar piece, then cut some straps to glue around edges of the mesh, spray it silver, chrome, metal whatever colour you want, then glue it to roll bar and mount in behind front seats
Nice build David. The White Lightning car you mentioned would be a neat build to do and I believe there is a '71 two door kit by AMT but it has been out of production for a while. I had a build where I printed my own decals and had the same issues you mentioned, but you're right, sometimes there is no alternative to get the job done.
@@davidchin350 Yes that build is on my channel, it's "Professor Fate's Rocket Car". It's a build I did with 3D printed parts that I printed and some resin parts I made.
Thanks Bryan. You can see those NYPD cars online and old movies like The Seven-Ups and The French Connection. I won't be attempting this paint scheme again anytime soon.
Hey my man........I love the color choice U chose for this Police car David!!!!!!!!! It looks terrific buddy, turned out great!!!!!! I'm working on another build currently, & I'll be making a video soon to show the kit & the progress too.......Happy Easter my man......be well!!!!!!!!!
Nice popo car David going to hop on ebay try find normal 124th siren cars turn some cars into cop kits like the decals ill get ink try printing some so yeah cool bro
Back in the 1930's most cars were built with black running boards and fenders so when the NYPD ordered green bodies they got green and black cars. In 1937 they added white to the roof and trunk to make the cars more visible to prevent rear end collisions. The color scheme of green bodies with black fenders and white roof and trunk continued up to and including the 1972 Plymouth Furys. Why only the lower half of the quarter panel was painted black? Prior to 1949 most cars had visibly distinct rear fenders. The theory is that in 1949 when the NYPD ordered '49 Fords which had no separate rear fender they painted most of the quarter panel black. However when they ordered '50 Plymouths which had separate rear fenders only the actual fender was painted black. When separate rear fenders disappeared altogether in the early 50s someone made the decision to compromise and only the lower half of the rear fender/quarter panel was painted black and it remained that way until the NYPD changed to blue and white beginning withe the 1973 Plymouths.
Thanks for the full in depth summary. Strange color scheme which I thoroughly enjoy especially when watching old NYC movies like the French Connection and The Seven Ups.😊
I’m retired now and I’m looking to get back into building models again. That way I won’t drink so much, smoke so much pot and eat muscle relaxers any more.
They have two different kits of the 1970 Ford Galaxie 500 sedan. There is one from the James Bond movie Diamonds Are Forever made in 1971. It is a Las Vegas Police Department, and Clark County Sheriff. It is molded in blue and it can be made to look like a Montreal Police Car that you would see on the streets of Montreal in 1970. There is also a taxicab kit of the 1970 Ford Galaxie 500 that is molded in yellow. I like to make it look like a police car you would see patrolling the streets of Toronto in 1970. Also a New York City Yellow Cab, and a Co-op cab from Toronto Canada. That can you would mask off the trunk and roof would be masked off in yellow and the body painted in red. I also want to do a Vancouver Canada police car. I would have to contact Vancouver Police Department historian to find out what color they used in 1970.
@@DarkAngel051372 Yes. Toronto did use yellow police cars until about 1986 or 1987. In 1988, they went to white cars with red & blue stripes. I have to find someone who has old decals for old police department liveries.
Hello , i would like to build this model as the car in the STREETS OF SAN FRANCISCO show .in the color gold plain sedan . thanks for the builds , i enjoy watching .

Thanks Chris. That was my other option as well.
