    There is no other police department in the world that has a unit like this these gentleman are like a rescue/emt/cop/firefighter all in one so many disciplines that they are trained in. The Swiss Army knife of the NYPD

    In my all-time FAVOURITE police reality show The First 48 (on A&E), cameras follow along homicide detectives in several agencies around the country investigating murders as they try to solve a case or gain significant advancement within the first 48 hours. It's a brilliant show that's superbly done and albeit the premise is vastly different for this unit of the NYPD, I'd sure love to see them featured in that manner as I believe that it would be riveting. Bravo to the NYPD, thanks for your service and be safe out there officers.

    Im in a unit called the Yell County Mounted Patrol. We started as a law enforcement unit mounted on horses. We were, and are, an all-volunteer, auxiliary law enforcement unit that provides 20 additional, certified law enforcement officers to our parent unit, The Yell County Sheriff's Department in Arkansas. We also respond throughout the state to assist other agencies as requested. We were originally used in manhunts, and searches for missing individuals.
    About 30 years ago there was a need for an advanced rescue capability in our county. None of the fire departments were able to take that mission tasking, so the Yell County Mounted Patrol stepped up and took on that mission.
    Now we do basically everything the NYPD ESU does. We do vehicle extrications, high angle rescues, rough terrain rescues, swiftwater rescues, drowning recoveries, manhunts for missing people and manhunts for dangerous fugitives.

      @@davidreeves8388 Lol, basically any of the ESUs up here is different from Arkansas. PAPD, MTAPD, and even Jersey City PD use the NYPD’s STS school for their ESU training curriculum. Most of Westchester’s police departments go through their own ESU school too, and I’m pretty sure much of it was based on the NYPD STS

    • @JohnDoe-yq5bd
      @JohnDoe-yq5bd 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They aren’t the best in the world. They are basically the police departments answer to the fire department rescue company. Just like how some EMS Squads have rescue squads.

    • @andrewfriedman4972
      @andrewfriedman4972 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      John Doe but they are also a swat team. They don’t just do rescues. They are extremely well trained and they are very good people that are devoted to saving lives.

    • @JohnDoe-yq5bd
      @JohnDoe-yq5bd 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Andrew Friedman the bulk of their work is rescue work. They could do one to two swat raids a week and the rest would be rescue work. That’s literally what they are is back up for police to save keep fire department involvement minimal. EMS has the same concept

    • @andrewfriedman4972
      @andrewfriedman4972 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      John Doe most of what the ESU guys do is train. Also ESU guys actually patrol. And a lot of the rescues they do is rescuing suicidal people which is dangerous. They would not let the fire department climb up a bridge to have nothing there but them and an unpredictable man that doesn’t care about his life. Those are mostly the types of rescues ESU would do. They do some other types of rescues but emergency service jobs overlap all of the time. Coast guard, police, fire, and ems work together all of the time and there jobs overlap sometimes. It’s good to have multiple people to call for help.

    • @viper174471
      @viper174471 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@andrewfriedman4972 it also helps them in public relations to be rescued by them also. People claiming they ant elite caus they (ESU) ant some jumped quasi miltar calling themselves Elite like you see with too many of the world's SWAT teams...
      ESU Gos beyond that and are more realistic in a domestic environment.why do y'all complaint that they are trained in EMS too. If they saved your life I don't think you would compline but anyways NYPD I love and support u

      The technical rescue aspect is overlapping with that of the Fire Department, but the FD doesn't do tactical policework, dealing with (armed) suicidal persons etc. At least, that's my understanding of it.
