    Thanks, Dani, for reacting to another wonderful Bee Gees song. "Massachusetts", written and recorded in 1967, was actually their first #1hit in the UK and, because it did hit #1, Robin was able to afford first class train tickets for him and his future wife Molly. They were on the train involved in the November,1967, Hither Green train disaster and, if they hadn't purchased those first class tickets, they probably would have been killed or severely injured in the second class section of the train. Robin was nearly killed in the first class section because one of the train rails came crashing through the window and missed his head by mere inches. He got out through one of the windows and pulled Molly out to safety as well. You must remember that Robin was still a teenager at the time and tried helping others who were seriously injured or worse and who weighed a lot more then he did. Barry and Mo were waiting for him and Mo, being his fraternal twin, knew something had happened to Robin the minute that it happened. Barry later said that this horrible experience brought out the pathos in his younger brother and that he really was never the same afterwards. He showed the world that night, though, just how much of a brave young man he truly was and this is just one more thing to truly admire and love this amazing man for. ❤

    Hi Dani, this was probably their greatest concert, and it was done at a time when Barry was having severe back issues which prevented them from going on tour. My understanding is that they set up this concert in Vegas and called it "One Night Only" and I believe it was broadcast worldwide. What drew me to your site originally was your beautiful reaction to Monsters by James Blunt. In the theme of beautiful videos, I'd like to recommend "Memories" by Within Temptation. P.S. You will also want to watch the entire One Night Only concert video. Cheers Canada!

    Nice choice Dani, thanks for sharing and RIP Robin. That fragile voice still lives in our hearts. I first heard it on the radio in '67, Such memories.

    This is a killer tune. Back in 1968, my mom bought this "Horizontal" album featuring this song, Polydor label, here at Bogota, Colombia and I checked it out until 1975, when I was 13 and getting into hard-heavy rock music. To slow down volume and energy, this album and Bee Gees were the stuff, the real deal. Songs like World, Lemons never forget, Harry Braff, Birdie told me, Horizontal (Stunning Piano/vocals/strings section tune), The Change is Made, (bluesy song) are all my favs ones, as well. So glad you liked it, you`re true finest music classics fan. Cheers, and take care.

      "The Change is Made" is one of my favorite Bee Gees songs (love soulful Barry), along with "And The Sun Will Shine" (might be my very favorite Robin lead), both of which contrribute to Horizontal being my favorite of the early work. Of course, this song is also up there as well.

    I think the best songs they ever did were with Robin singing the lead. He had such a wonderful voice!

      I love Barrys voice so much more, its so velvety and his vocal range is much larger! Every brother has his fans and that's a good thing and one of the reasons for their success.

    • @kthor
      @kthor 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@nelerhabarber5602Yep, I agree! Robin sang few leads, which was mainly because his voice wasn't as versatile & popular as Barry's, thus making it not commercially successful.

    There is a story about this song.
    It is infact an anti Flower Power song that is meant to stand opposit to Scott Mackenzies "San Fransico (Be Sure To Wear Some Flowers In You Hair)"
    That is why they state that "The Lights All Went Out in Massachusetts" because everyone went to San Francisco.

    Another great song by the Bee Gees. I agree with your anlysis. It makes me sentimental about places that I've lived.
