Electric mini airboat first open water run!

- We check out the power pack, spin over to our other jetty with the electric outboard, then change kits to the electric airboat to get out on the open lake for testing!
Out on the water, we checked out the stability of the hull, at slow speed, manouvering, and at higher speeds, still capping the output power for the day to around 50% to keep things safe!

After using the battery in the video nearly daily in all kinds of weather, it is still in near perfect condition, only showing slight loss of capacity! That's a freakin' sweet boat! I've been thinking about doing something similar, I have close to a hundred, 25ah, LiFePO4 cells that need a use.

Those LiFePO4 cells should serve you well! We where actually looking at using them for a moment, but have stuck to LiPO for the crazy power they offer (We have had a history of running as many amps as our ESC would allow😅).

Its great that you are going to sell kits. I was just going to ask about a parts list. The website is obviously still under construction. Please include a converter for other currencies. Its not clear from the descriptions yet, but a kit with motor and all electronics would be awesome!

Nice lazy slow turns with gentle throttle, with that fishing hull. If you try to slide it like a smooth bottom Florida Everglades airboat??,, into the drink with Yee!. Even the Amphibious skirted airboats, with really low CG design, and thrust vectoring rings and vanes will dig in and flip over, and sink. Otherwise, you guys win the Christmas Turkey, Very Nice Job!!. Keep on it John, there will be a market for a double kit conversion.

Yes, you're totally correct with the CoG, and care must be taken if heading for a slide! CG has been a priority in the design, and is really good in the production model.
The hull design we are using takes into account ice/snow usage, an application where more certainty is needed in the direction of the craft, it is fully sketch without the ribs otherwise, trust me!😅
And honestly, both Jack and I love Xmas Turkey, so we're expecting delivery of one from you soon! 😅Maybe we can take it on an airboat ride😅

You should make that box water tight, rubber seal the lid and flex seal any screw holes.

This will produce substantially more thrust if you create a ducted housing for it. I've considered various jet type propulsions for water craft prototypes.
We did try with a ducted housing on an earlier prototype @E-Nonymouse, yet it didn't give any measurable difference in thrust, and because of the added weight and production costs, and the need for super simple utilisation we scrapped the idea.👍

Would hate charging up the batteries or the short ride and lack of speed or load. Safe for kids. 1000hp is for starters now days and fun! Electric outboard would be faster

Charging really isn't an issue since we really tailormade this boat for our own needs, which is a very short 500 trip over the lake👍 And sure, it isn't the fastest or most powerful thing on the planet, but any faster and that hull will fold itself in half😂 We call it a MINI airboat for a reason🙃 Mini size, mini power, but still some good fun!

Jag tror att jämförelsen är svår, då storleken på den här är mycket större än just en sån ryggsäck. Propellern är 1,7m i diameter, motorn har en möjlig effekt på cirka 40hk, det är mera segelflygsstorlek på grejerna.
Roder i vatten behövs inte riktigt, tanken är att man ska kunna flyga över skräp i vattnet, och på vintern är det is. Man kanske kan summera med att det är "tillräckligt god" (eller "otillräckligt-god") styrförmåga, då man kan växla mellan fram/bak i handkontrollern på ett kick. Det skulle absolut gå att bygga ett roder i vattnet, det är nog bara att det är mindre önskvärt.

Have you tested this electric airboat running dry? Would be curious if it would navigate a shallow creek ( at times less than 1 inch water )near my house that has lots of sandbars to briefly run over. How long will it run on a charge?

Thans for the message, here and on Messenger. Sent you an answer there, but in answering here:
- less than 1 inch water is of course no dramas :)
- brief sand bars, shouldn't be a problem, its really powerful
- normal usage, you should get around an hour runtime.
In our testing the runtime has been perfect for our usage, and should mirror enough range for anyone who is out on the lake doing what you normally do with an airboat like this.

Hi @eriylly👍 The motors are quite different, and we'll be going through the parameters, differences, and why they are good for their different applications in the next coming videos! The torque output of most motors puts the ICE outboard to shame easily.
What size motor is on the outboard
We are running it at a maximum of about 8000 Watts to keep heat within the system at sustainable levels.
I live in the USA and I have a 12’ John boat I would love to make it into a fan boat /airboat I’m in the process of getting a 3 blade but I don’t know what battery or motor to use I need HELP I would like to get a 3600rpm battery operating motor

Quite a lot of factors in making it safe to use and reliable, but once we're happy no one can bust it as much as we have, we'll release it so you can buy one! /John
What speed does it develop?
On ice I have done 70kph. It will do ove 100kph on ice.
On water I have done 40kph. It will do about 50kph on water.
I haven't dared go any faster. OIn ice, I am afraid of crashing, and in the water, I am afraid of an accident and sinking!!!

@@johndehosson I tried to send you a picture of an advertisement for Manta ll motor but it wouldn't let me look it up it's a 10 horsepower electric motor it runs either 12 volt 24 volt or 48 volt I think it would push your airboat pretty damn fast 10 horsepower is a lot of power I think you would enjoy that immensely LOL

about 50% boats develop a leak in them at 1 time or another. im going to guess that water in the boat might cause electrocution.
Hi @gregoryperkins! Thanks for dropping by, and you're right, water and electricity don't mix! As a prototype, this has a bunch of not-so-neat solutions :) . As time has passed, we have made some changes to increase waterproofing and safety, these just aren't in this video. We use it as our daily commute, so for our own part it is important that things stay in good shape, and are safe to use. In our production model, everything is made professionally, it is all IP67 rated, (fully waterproof), adding to the safety of the boat. Again, thanks, and hope this helps! /John
@@johndehosson ive designed swamp buggys for 40 years. my ultimate was an electric hydraulic because the vehicle spend so much time in the water. on the wheels a hydraulic motor drives the wheel hub. hydraulic steering is also used. the vehicle has 2ft of suspension travel and the hydraulics dont use a driveshaft. i toyed with the idea of an electric motor on the wheels. i never got past the safety issue when it was known that higher than 12 volts would be needed. the electric hydraulic version hides the electric motor in a sealed unit with only the hydraulic line coming out. when i was young we always used 16ft aluminum boats for fishing and hunting. i cannot imagine a water problem with all that electricity on board.
