A bigger battery would be nice. But I think what it really needs is fast charging, even as an option. I test drove one at fully charged, and yes the rear suspension was pretty… crashy haha.
Hello Nigel Here is Korea. I have R+. The major problems with the carver are the large handling load when stopping and the left and right sway of the steering wheel on a curved road with an uneven road surface. When going over a bump at an oblique angle It is the left and right rotational force of the handle that cannot be sustained by the arm. What do you think of this problem that the carver team also did not find a solution to? However, I tuned this issue and succeeded in reducing the handling load by 60%. I also changed the handle diameter to 380 mm to achieve very smooth and excellent handling results
I believe Carver are working on new rear suspension. In my opinion the rear wheels should have independent rear suspension. A friend has replaced the rear shocks with longer ones and found this improves handling and clearance.
@@hongsulee1843 my friend is going to do a video on them. They were made by a company in the UK, Hagon of Ilford. They have two adjustments and are 10cm longer than the original.
Hi Nigel. I'm very intrigued by the carver but I can't shake the feeling that a helmet should still be worn while driving one, escpecially in the S+ version. I mean there are no airbags, and the seatbelt presumably won't stop your head from smashing into the windows or the steering wheel. What are your thoughts? If I get around to buying one, I think I'll buy a nice fighter pilot style helmet 1: for my safety 2: even more driving fun, pretending to be a pilot on the road 😜
Hello, there's no legal requirement to wear one but if it makes you feel safer... I think it might reduce visibility. I've never felt the need for one 😊
4, brand new, Carver base models have just become available after their stint at Selfridges. They'll be list price. Email info@carverelectric.co.uk for details.
Definately of interest now. I was waiting for 50mph / 50 mile range or thereabouts to make it a sensible run around. Does driving at 50mph put a strain on the battery charge? I assume more like 35/40 miles range at that speed. Will need to set aside some time and arrange for a test drive. Still love the look of your green wrap on the original carver.
I have the S+ and currently estimating around 50 miles+ on a charge with aircon, charging a phone, lots of hills and an average speed of 40mph. Can't find anywhere to do a constant 50mph :-) At an average of 30mph I think above 60 miles+. I did 31 miles yesterday with average 30mph from a town to city and back, so traffic lights, occasional 40 mile zones, occasional 20 miles zones and had 55% left in the battery. Obviously this will go down in the winter but range seems pretty good at current temperatures.
@@DaleWestern Have you tried driving on any country A & B roads? I live in a small town, surrounded by countryside with national speed limits, but they're pretty twisty and hilly roads so 50 mph wouldn't feel too slow. I know this has been designed as an urban car, but I'd love to be able to commute to work in it.
Yes, I've driven at night. It's fine. The interior displays are a bit bright - you see their reflections in the side windows. Apart from that it's good. The headlights are pretty good .
Hi Michael, where are you based? If you're in the UK you currently only have two service centres. One in London and one in the north. Reliability is good. There's very little to go wrong. They are plastic and basic in their construction tho, so don't expect normal car quality. It's all about the experience with Carver 😊
@@michaelhaigh4656 things may have changed since I last spoke with them but I don't believe there's a service centre in Scotland. It might be worth joining the Carver Electric Owners Facebook group because I'm sure there are customers there...
Yep, it needs an overly complicated engine with less torque, more pollution, ridiculously costly fuel, lots of noise, a hot engine sitting at your feet and extra cost getting it serviced. Instead of something that is opposite of that.Dont get me wrong thou, this thing is so over priced for what it is. I imagine this thing is made in Europe where the salaries are high enough to afford something like this.
The original ‘Carver One’ has a 95bhp petrol engine. Top speed of 115mph and 0-60mph in 8 seconds. A proper sports car, designed for blasting down B roads. However they were never cheap and not many were made, hence they are rare and occasionally come up at auction for £30-50k+. Sadly the new electric carver is just a leaning mobility scooter that struggles with hills. I think the reviewer says a lot when he champions the sport mode in the intro and then spends the entire road test in comfort mode. 🥱
Thanks for that Nigel, been waiting for a road test, would like to see the top speed and max range at that speed. Cheers
Looking forward to more information soon, thanks Nigel.

Nice to see Carver developing the chassis. Are you going to post anything on the other driving modes?
Carver are listening to feedback and pushing the concept forward which is great. If I can get more time in an S+ I will definitely make more videos. 😁
If they could reduce reae wheel base from 106cm to under 90cm that would be it.
Can you swap out the battery and so have an heir and a spare? One charging while the other is on the go. Should be standard. If Dewalt made Carvers.
Now removable batteries. The Nimbus EV has this in their prototype. I think it's a great idea.
No not now
I dont think we will have those available to us here in the U.S. anytime soon
Checkout Nimbus EV which is an American product that's soon going into production.

Bit concerned by that torque limiter. Many hills in my area, would be risky to slow to 25mph all the time on the faster roads. Can that be adjusted?
Yes, I agree. I hope that it can be fixed with a software update.
Hi Nigel, nice!!! What camera are you using for this video?

Nigel, do you think it can tow mini sleeper trailer for motor bikes?
It doesn't have type approval for towing I'm afraid. The S+ could probably tow a trailer bit you may have trouble getting it insured.

It's either the indicator or the tilt warning

Not at all. I had a blast with mine. I wouldn't buy a basic one now tho. I'd definitely go for the S+
Hello Nigel, did you ever drove the Carver 1 (185 km/u max. speed)?
Great video's!
Hi Bert, thank you. Unfortunately I've never had the opportunity to drive one of the originals.
More like it, but still, make it do 60 and then motorways and national speed limit roads are OK for it.
56mph I reckon, or 90kph, since that’s what the lorries are limited to so on motorways you’re staying with them.
How much and what license do I need to drive one
£15k and a full car license

The S+ starts at £14,500
