I watched The Passion by myself in my bedroom and I cried my eyes out. I can’t stand to see Our Lord suffer like He did. My parents didn’t cheat on movie tickets because they taught us to be honest by example. We went to Drive-Ins because it was a dollar per adult and children under 12 were free. Many weekends we went both Friday and Saturday nights. But this was 1950 and on till 1964.

As a young girl The Song of Bernadette was profound in drawing me closer to my faith. Bernadette is my confirmation name. Sad how ya'll blew over Bernadette. No, I did not watch The Song of Bernadette while home with my grandmother. Bernadette showed me amazing grace, Love for our Blessed Mother and her incredible faith in God the Father. Mary's obedients to God. Telling all of us to be obedient, being full of grace.

A great but moving movie especially for kids is The Trouble with Angels with Hayley Mills, and Rosalind Russell directed by Ida Lupino. It is about 2 girls in an all girls Catholic school run by nuns. One girl who is always having a 'scathingly good idea' gets to see the real side of the sisters and their faith. It is fun, but deeply moving movie that few ever think about. Enjoyable for adults as well. My nephew enjoyed watching it when he was in middle school!

One of the most amazing Catholic movies is Des Hommes et Des Dieux (Of God's and Men). The movie is inspired by true events. My husband and I could not speak or cry for a long time we were both just shocked by the innocent victim walking to their end. Other than The Passion, shows what the Catholic walk may cost, and reward, you.

The best scene for me in The Passion of the Christ was during the crucifixion when Mary is grasping the stones in her hands while hearing what they are doing to her Son. Then when the cross is raised and she sees the glory of the cross, she understands everything in that moment, surrenders her sorrow to God, and lets the stones fall from her hands. Amazing!

It should terrify you because it's based on actual events! I'm 75 and I remember when the movie came out the lines at the confessionals were as long as the theater.
I read the book and it is more terrifying than the movie because it gives more details about what the mom and priests are thinking.

“The Greatest Story Ever Told” is in the old tradition of grand, widescreen epics. Yet it is different because it doesn’t rely upon action or spectacle. Director George Stevens put in years of research and planning, solidly immersed in Scripture and history. Max Von Sydow gave a heartfelt performance as the Lord Jesus Christ. I still hear his voice with the closing words, “And lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.”

I also felt for Dylan Moran's rich financier character- he was repentant and ready to turn his life to Christ, having turned to the priest for help and support in humility and then the poor abused soul played by Chris O'Dowd shoots the priest. It was a genuine tragedy!

Also a good movie about St.John Bosco but can't remember the actor that played him. Another one is about St.Bernadette told by a fellow nun who was guilty of envying her and treating her badly. I believe both were on EWTN sometime. Mary of Nazareth is good too as it shows St.Joseph as more human and Mary is shown as more Catholic than most movies. I watch Mary of Nazareth each year in Advent and The Passion of Christ on Good Friday. Both are very moving.

The movies done by Father Patrick Peyton have all kinds of young at the time unknown actors like William Shatner.

The Passion of Joan of Arc is insanely ahead of its time, beautiful movie from the 20s. Only seen it once and it may be a bit overdramatic, but then again her story is very dramatic!

Call me crazy, but Pulp Fiction has always struck me as a profoundly Catholic film. I don't know where Tarantino's heart was at when he made it, but there surely was an abundance of grace breaking through that one.

@@juanpoodts6644 Redemption is at its core. Jules reminds me of St. Moses the Black. Forgiveness of Ringo and Honeybunny. Discussions about genuine miracles, "don't blaspheme." The enticing glow of the briefcase, representing sin. The fact that Butch puts himself in danger for his worst enemy. Everything about that film is just so blisteringly Catholic to me!

Not that I saw it, but did you see the movie about the psychologist who was interviewing a man in prison for murder, to see if he was insane or sane and could be condemned. The prisoner is actually possessed. Many exorcists seemed to think it was one of the better films showing what demonic possession was all about. BTW as someone who watches often, you men really seemed to have "lost it" by the end of the piece. LOL. Glad you enjoyed it so much!

I would like to add The Mission with Jeremy Irons and Robert DeNiro as Jesuit priests in Brazil, Rudy, which is a great football movie starring Sean Austin, The Lord of the Rings, which despite being a fantasy is dripping with Catholicism, and The Sound of Music, probably the best family movie of all time.

Just got around to this episode and for sure thought The Nativity Story would be a part of this list. Seeing some focus on St Joseph and how he stepped into the role of father was something fresh that few movies or film have focused on. It was inspiring, as a man looking to have a child.
