I got into Traktor when it was first released, no hardware and everything controlled by mouse or keyboard. Stuck with them through all the years and glad I did. Welcome v4!
I am not so sure that this is the case. It looks like a covert subscription to me. Traktor 4 is not the version that has been promised for almost two years. For me and after all I have seen in the last 24 months, this version could be called Traktor 3 Pro Plus Subscription Version 2. The subscription model must have been a disaster and that's why they have killed it. Pay now for the upgrade which coincidentally costs practically the same as the annual Plus subscription ..... who doesn't assure you and the rest that next year Traktor Pro 5 will appear with some of the new features they have been announcing (Stems and Flexible Grids don't work as expected). So next year if Traktor Pro 5 appears, I will say the same thing: It will be Traktor Pro 3 Plus Subscription Version 3.... I hope I have explained this well. They needed money now. They have also left thousands of users with a browser flickering problem that they know exists and refuse to fix in Traktor Pro 3 when the browser worked fine until version 3.4. They can't be trusted.
This is incredible news, especially when compared to Pioneer's recent move to start gouging their customers to use hardware they already paid for. I'm so glad to see Native Instruments doing right by their customers, and it's great to finally see some benefits from the NI / Izotope merger. I'm really, really happy with this, and I bought a day 1 upgrade to thank them.
I've been at it non-stop since yesterday.. and for me, personally, this is the best thing that has happened in 2024 . I feel very comfortable and content as everything works like magic.. Elated!
I'm happy for all Traktor users that there's progress being made! Traktor was my first digital solution and I was 'all in' for a very long time. Like many 'old skool' DJ's, I went from vinyl, to CDJ-100 / 900 etc., to Traktor. N.I. made a series of missteps, but the biggest was probably: deciding to drop the new code base of Traktor DJ 2 in favour of returning to the old code base of Traktor Pro. I worry that may come back to haunt them, but if it doesn't, so much the better. And good on them for listening to the community and doing away with subs. That can go a long way to buying back some good will. I've switched to another software solution and am very happy with it, but Traktor for sure is the OG, and the UI is darn near perfect in terms of intelligibility.
Traktor was my first love in DJ software and I was a user for years before I switched to Denon. I've always hoped they would come back to current with their software so I could pull ouy my S4 again occasionally for some fun and this video made me very happy in a nostalgic way! Also really happy to see they are taking a stand against the subscription model. Good for them. I might even upgrade just to support them.
Hey Phil thanks for the short review! Great news for Traktor users. And, hopefully, for more users too! Love Traktor (that I’m currently studying with your course) as it gives you a very creative approach to music, not only mixing two tracks abut also live remixes, 4 real decks and integration with other native instruments hardwares like Maschine and Komplete Kontrol!
Now we just need traktor to release a standalone controller, a mix between the s8 and the latest s4. With ozone control accessible from the screens. And of course, easy to plug a maschine +, inside, and voila, perfect hybrid setup on the go.
I'd kill for a smaller 2 Channel version of the S5, which I really enjoyed but was still a bear to haul around everywhere. Something sized like a Z1 with one half of an X1 on each side... Sort of like my old Novation Twitch.
I've been on Traktor since 2016 and I'm SO excited about this!! The sound quality, effects and stability have made it worth sticking with it for me, as well as some of the other functions, this takes it over the top!
FINALLY! Been using Traktor for years but of late, not so much mainly because of Stems. My Z2 mixer still doing a perfect job. Might just need to remap to make stems control simpler. Welcome back Traktor!
I wish the stem separation was on the fly, but it we still save me time from using outside software and it will keep my beat grids and cue points. Good Job NI
I'm so happy Traktor finally listened to requests for Stems! I didn't want to have to make the switch back to Serato with all the hardware & software purchases! Can't wait to try this out!
NI miss so many game changer moves. They've got komplete software / hardware, machine, traktor and now Izotopes. Integrating them to work well together is the magic I've been missing
Amazing news. Like most in the comments been a long time traktor user and can’t imagine playing on anything else (and I’ve tried 😂) NI please continue with the updates and would love to see some new hardware, D2 mk2s or a Z4 mixer perhaps? Or even some good NI approved TSIs for some of the popular kit? (Denon SC players anyone?) With the flexigrids maybe get some NI approved TSIs for things like the DJM battle mixers?
At least they finally delivered something. We‘ve been hearing “soon” for too long. I am fine with none real time stems if that gives us better quality.
Glad to see Native Instruments coming back strong, when at one point it didn't look good for them moving forward.. Always had a soft spot for them since it was my first experience using control vinyl. I may have to dust off the old fluorescent Traktor vinyl for a spin with the new software 👌
Traktor is amazing with its Pattern Player and Ozone Maximizer/Limiter, Flexible Beat Grid! Too bad the stems are not live BUT i heard a comparison of Stem extraction amongst different DJ software and Traktor came #1 for sound quality. AMAZING Traktor, I have always stuck with you and now you caught up.
Just few months back i commented on one of ur video Traktor is Dead & u replied its may come back....something like that.....u were right, not upto the mark but its a welcome upgrades to Traktor n glad to see they havent completed neglected it as it seemed.
This is genuinely (for me, as a loyal Traktor Pro user) the most exciting thing to come out in terms of digital DJing for a decade. I've been on Traktor Pro 2 for as long as I can remember. I still use it week in week out on a Macbook Pro at gigs and it's never let me down, but I never liked the stylistic change of Pro 3, and the issues with the look of that version on Retina was a deal breaker for me. I know the Retina thing still hasn't been addressed for v4, but there is enough about this new version with the stems, the flexible gridding, and the unlocking of the Ozone maximizer and pattern player to make me finally do the upgrade. I am so excited and grateful to Native Instruments for finally bringing a lot of people's favourite digital DJing platform kicking and screaming into the modern age!
I leave comments elsewhere and then find again another video addressing the topic I talked or asked in another video of yours!! You are ahead of me each time!! Question, is it good as of today to get a S4 MK3 with traktor pro4 and use stems, or is serato and virtual dj way ahead with stems and the controllers like grv6, Rave four, etc.... ?
I've just finished implementing support for the new flexible beat grids for conversion to- and from- Traktor Pro 4. Before rolling this out as an update, the feature needs to be tested. So, I'm opening a free public beta program! If you have a valid DJCU license and Traktor Pro 4 installed, I'd love for you to join the beta. Just send me a DM, and I'll get you the download link.
Has anyone else in the UK had a problem with the native instruments website this week? I’ve been unable to sign in or purchase anything? The website just cycles back the home page all the time. I’ve tried it on several devices. Also native access won’t connect?
Sounds like a great update, but I'll wait a few weeks to see if there are any bugs. Yet I'm sad they still haven't implemented the recommended tracks feature they had in Traktor DJ for the Ipad 10years ago.
Traktor was the first DJ software I used and liked it a lot. I own a slew of Traktor controllers including the S4, the S8, X1 (Mk2 and Mk3), F1, Z1. I have been using them with Virtual DJ who have done a decent job of incorporating the intended functions into their software (even on the S8), giving me controller freedom and allowing me to mix and match controllers. For example, I bring my X1 to a gig where the CDJ play button is faulty so that I have a way to make sure the track will play when I hit play. I'm not crazy about having the software convert to the old stems format as it will take up way more room on my drive, duplicate the track and I think will get messy. I may go back and give it another try once they're able to figure the stems thing out... and Video would be another cool feature to add as I have transitioned to playing music videos as well... NI, are you listening? Another thing they can do to coax DJs there is to start making .tsi files for as many 3rd party controllers as possible which may or may not cannibalize their hardware sales (making this move will attract more DJs who have existing controllers and they can then market to these DJs with superior stuff from NI, but not doing it won't attract as many DJs back, so I think it's a strategic move and will also show the love to DJs who have been feeling abandoned by Native Instruments)
True while you can not batch process Stems in Traktor 4 you can however process many files to be processed one after another like queueing. While processing one file I wanted to see if I could process more, so I clicked on another file to generate stems while the previous file was still generating. I did the process about four more times. The outcome was great when one file finished the other started automatically it continued this cycle without any additional interaction from me until all songs were completed "Queueing". It uses a lot of CPU but, this method works just set it and forget, and it will complete the task. I have not tried to do more than 10 files in my testing. I'm sure I will steadily increase the number to see if there is a breaking point.
Queing seems to be in their mind already. Why else would the statusbar show 1/1 before every task. Maybe with an early Update. Also would be great if they utilize the GPU more for Steming.
If only the mapping of the jogwheel of third party controllers was on point. I never could make my DDJ-SR to feel good while scratching. I hated to use Serato, but had Traktor already, so I used my SR with Traktor. I then tried Rekordbox with it, which worked great. Plus the flexible beatgrids and sync worked exactly like in Traktor. And now I have a FLX10... Maybe I should try to use it with Traktor once again....
Question. Is the pro 4 version graphically improved? Is it in 4k, basically sharper on modern monitors? It still looked dated to me but Im using an older mac w an intel chip.
Would love a mapping for a DDJ1000. Moved to RB5 from traktor a few years ago but would love to come back. Hate subscriptions and want to use timecode with the DDJ 👍
@@digitaldjtips I used to have an S4, since then I've had a djm450 + xp2 & timecode. Now the ddj1000 + timecode with RB5. I love the ddj1000 but prefer the traktor software.
I might have to swap my S11/XP2 out for my Z2,F1,X1, Machine MK3...I do miss Traktor and Using my Z2...I still maintain that the Z2 with Traktor 3 was the best integration and control of ANY software/Hardware combo to date
There are a few good mappings from other users or mapping-services for the S11. You can maybe stick with it. But I'm totally with you. The in-universe hardware and modular extensions from NI are great.
Hi there quick question do you know where to find the mapping for the f1 and stems video you posted years ago on here the f1 looks great with the mapping you used. Any help would be appreciated thank you
Hearing the part about the flexible was a little odd to me, I've been playing open format with Traktor for 10 + years and have been able to switch between genres fine. Maybe I just need to try it out to find out what the big difference is.
Its cool that Ni has added Stems but it's not on the fly yet. Perhaps this is coming down the pipe soon and when it does it will be a legitimate competitor/contender with the likes of Serato, Rekorbox, and Engine OS. The problem is that some Ni controllers may have some difficulties in effectively using stems especially when it comes to timing if you are mixing hip hop and you don't have Ni's flagship controller the S4 Mk3. Using the S3 you depend largely on using the mouse to manipulate STEMS. It's doable but, not practical. If you could map the keyboard shortcut to do it fine, even better if you map the Stems to the pads would be the best choice.
Stems tip: As mentioned in the video you cant select a batch of files to stem separate, BUT You can select a track to Separate and whilst its separating the first track you can then add to the stem separation queue whilst its separating tracks. Whilst its been processing a queue I have been able to ad 6 tracks to the queue..... Little work around I guess... I was really starting to consider leaving Traktor, but using Pro 4 for the last 20 mins, Im going to see where they go with updates....
I have an X1 Mk2 and would like to be able to control the stems. Do I need to add an F1 to my set up? Or will NI be releasing a new mini controller soon?
Now I really only need a controller thats like a mix between the s4 mk3 and the s8 no more screens but jogwheels and over the sample pads and loop controls i want to tow rows of noobs for the stem or rmx volumes and send efekts or filters. Shut all fitt on a pretty compact controller that can esaly be carried a few kilometers into the forest. As a Goa dj i dont really care about the flexible beat grids tho but still i'm pretty happy that there is some life signs and i am hoping for new hardware.
When pioneer future cdj's can play/separate stems then producers/record labels will release music in this format as it is the trend. Then one must ask why they didn't do it 9 years ago when Traktor introduced the feature & concept.
First, I'm very pleased that NI finally got around to implementing stems. However, it seems like it's kind of clunky compared to Serato's simple real time implementation where there's so preparation ahead of time, no extra files to deal with and no cluttered display. In Serato you just click a button and you get the isolated stem (bass or vocal, etc.).
@lk0707 so what? I was just encouraging you to contact them before assuming they'd be unreasonable and deny you the upgrade to 4. too late ffs. You should have thought a little yourself
And GUESS WHAT? They waited til the darn 50% off July sale was OVER to do this! This is kinda scummy, but yeah it's a nice upgrade. I'm still on 3 so I guess I'll show them my feelings by waiting for another sale. I've been a customer for probably 15-17 years now. Thanks for the video Phil!
I’m a long time traktor user but stopped using it when I need to add video. I loved their compressor and limiter and using izotope ozone sounds great. I liked the UI quite a bit as well. But this update overall just makes them seem “less behind” as they’re already pretty deep in the hole. I’m currently using the advanced customization of VDJ to fill in for these areas. As VDJ supports adding VSTs I’m using the fabfilter limiters to help with that overall smoothness in volume across tracks, which perform just a little better than ozone. Still no video.

Hearing the part about the flexible was a little odd to me, I've been playing open format with Traktor for 10 + years and have been able to switch between genres fine. Maybe I just need to try it out to find out what the big difference is.
It can handle changing bpms within songs for sync etc
Can you use a numark mixtrack pro fx controller with it
No
So good, albeit so so so so so so sooooooo long overdue!!
Indeed!
What about third party hardware? Can I use my rane four?
Yes you can but you have to map the Midicontrols bei yourself and get no Display support
I hope they come along with a z2 successor now
Wow that would be something!
Will it work with the S4 MK2?
Yes
So because of that you are going to upgrade your Traktor course Right?
Of course
Does it mix video files yet?
No and likely never will
Its cool that Ni has added Stems but it's not on the fly yet.
It is, it’s just very slow
Have they fixed the flushing background glitch 😅
I think so
Is it available for the DDJ FLX6?
It is as it was with the previous version
@@digitaldjtips nice 💯👍🏾
Did they add retina screen support?
No but they say they are working on it
Looking to upgrade
Will this work with the Traktor Kontrol S2 MK1 ?
Yes should
Awesome!!!!
You are welcome
Stems tip: As mentioned in the video you cant select a batch of files to stem separate, BUT You can select a track to Separate and whilst its separating the first track you can then add to the stem separation queue whilst its separating tracks.
Whilst its been processing a queue I have been able to ad 6 tracks to the queue..... Little work around I guess...
I was really starting to consider leaving Traktor, but using Pro 4 for the last 20 mins, Im going to see where they go with updates....
Yes that is exactly what you can do
Will it work on s4 mk2
Yes
Any idea if the stems feature work with the offline locker for Beatport link?? Can you please check this out for me please
No sorry not checked yet
And ozone maximizer push hi freqs and it sounds very harsh when a song were originally crispy..Needs multiband maximizer.
Traktor run ting
I have an X1 Mk2 and would like to be able to control the stems. Do I need to add an F1 to my set up? Or will NI be releasing a new mini controller soon?
You can map them to anything
Is this stable version with MacBook M1? Has anyone tested yet
? I had wedding tomorrow, and system need to be bulletproof....
Looks like I can queue up multiple tracks to stem process
Yes but one by one, right?
You might as well buy a z1 mk2 , i just got one instead of upgrading from pro 3 and you get pro 4 free with it , ps the z1 mk2 is great !
You're right - it is a great little controller and good value with the software.
Let’s hope there is some more hardware around the corner!
This could make me change from rekordbox. I use DVS and my mixer works with traktor (thus far)
Give it a go!
When pioneer future cdj's can play/separate stems then producers/record labels will release music in this format as it is the trend. Then one must ask why they didn't do it 9 years ago when Traktor introduced the feature & concept.
They won’t as there will be no need to
First, I'm very pleased that NI finally got around to implementing stems. However, it seems like it's kind of clunky compared to Serato's simple real time implementation where there's so preparation ahead of time, no extra files to deal with and no cluttered display. In Serato you just click a button and you get the isolated stem (bass or vocal, etc.).
Similar functionality is hidden under the hood in Serato. But these could definitely get faster
@@digitaldjtips If the Traktor implementation gives significantly better stems audio quality, that would be a huge plus for me.
DaaaammnnnnL !!!! just updated yesterday to v3
Email them a receipt. I bet they'll hand over upgrade to latest. Be pretty mean if they didn't
@@donkeyDangerMouse too late.
Purchased v4 yesterday. So ?
@lk0707 so what? I was just encouraging you to contact them before assuming they'd be unreasonable and deny you the upgrade to 4.
too late ffs. You should have thought a little yourself
@@donkeyDangerMouse btw upgrade is worth the price
@lk0707 no doubt. I'm excited for it. Was seriously concerned they were going to close shop
AlphaTheta has been denied clearance to purchase Serato. 🎉🎉🎉🎉 Yay!!!!
Yup see our separate video and article
Word.👍✅
Which Traktor controllers are supported? With v3 they ditched S2MK1 support. I got the S2MK2 and worry a little bit (still a great controller)
I still use the S2 Mk1 with Traktor 3. It works. May not be supported...but I have not needed any support.
Thank you. Good news!hope this holds true for T4, too
And GUESS WHAT? They waited til the darn 50% off July sale was OVER to do this! This is kinda scummy, but yeah it's a nice upgrade. I'm still on 3 so I guess I'll show them my feelings by waiting for another sale. I've been a customer for probably 15-17 years now.
Thanks for the video Phil!
You’re welcome
I’m a long time traktor user but stopped using it when I need to add video. I loved their compressor and limiter and using izotope ozone sounds great. I liked the UI quite a bit as well.
But this update overall just makes them seem “less behind” as they’re already pretty deep in the hole.
I’m currently using the advanced customization of VDJ to fill in for these areas. As VDJ supports adding VSTs I’m using the fabfilter limiters to help with that overall smoothness in volume across tracks, which perform just a little better than ozone.
Still no video.
Not sure video will come
