The 2nd bike (Rolls Royce Merlin V twin 5,000cc) featured in Bike magazine back in the mid 1980's. It was built by a Australian bush mechanic called "Lucky" Kaiser and features the front two cylinders off of a abandoned Mosquito bomber's Merlin engine. (They have abandoned WW2 airfields out in the outback complete with wrecked aircraft that the military left behind in 1945). It has a 3 speed Holden truck gearbox. As a condition for using the Rolls Royce name on the bike, Kaiser had to build the frame from scratch. This is the only officially sanctioned Rolls Royce motorcycle in existence. Nice to see that it still runs.
@@Drifty40 Maybe not, but already in 2020 Millyard had driven that "pos" 8500 miles, so it must be at least somewhat practical, and about handling, it passed 207 mph without killing anybody, so it can't be too horrible.

The 5000cc RR Merlin engine had to have been cut from one end of the V12, 27,000cc, WW2, air plane engine. The whole 12 cylinder, 1240 horsepower, engine weighed 1350 pounds, at its lightest, and took up a lot of space. It sounded awesome, as did this 2 cylinder version.

I'll stick with my Yamaha VMAX and Honda V65 Magna. For their times, two of the most powerful production cruisers of their kind. They both still run very well.
The Vmax was fine, the V65 had issues with its overcomplicated and fragile timing chain tensioning system, and second gear was fragile and failed often.

I had a 1970 1/2 Kawasaki H-1 500 triple, I ran circles around Harley Sportsters and 750 hondas. Damn thing wore out too quick, Harleys and Hondas don't. lol.
This is ridiculous. Anybody that has any experience on a motorcycle will tell you that this is beyond stupid. Motorcycles should be light weight and maneuverable, why? Because heavy motorcycles are numb which means you can't ride it anywhere near the limit, which in turn means it is boring. For some unknown reason North Americans think that big motors are better; they are not - they are a liability. A motorcycle works because of the gyroscopic effect that the wheels have when they are spinning, as you ride the motorcycle the mass of the spinning wheels increase stability (mostly because they do not want to change direction). Guess what has a lot of mass and spins? A crankshaft. (actually all spinning parts within the motor: camshaft, counter balance, transmission shafts etc.). Rotating mass is the enemy on a motorcycle. This is why low mass high horsepower motorcycle engines dominate motorcycle racing. But then comes along the logic that bigger is better and somebody puts an OHV boat anchor of a motor into a motorcycle chassis (don't even get me started on how the increased wheelbase affects handling). This would never happen if the riders in North America started on low cc bikes and worked their way up. But no, most North Americans start riding at the age of 40 on a 850 lbs Harley Davidson. They can't control the bike so they think going around corners is dumb. The whole reason to ride a motorcycle is to control the 3 axis of rotation: yaw, pitch & roll. No rider has the ability to control physics but you can close to the edge if understand the feedback.
you couldn't be more right. My Dad used to buy and sell bikes after he'd done them up and he would let me ride them. The light ones were usually the best even with poor tyres on. I remember he bought this old Honda once and I was riding around the block where we live first bend I got to it wanted to go into a straight line
Most of these are overkill, and tasteless, but that V6 bike was interesting, and in a small displacement could be a viably lightning fast machine. V 4's are already incredible configurations, a V-6, I imagine, with proper engineering and use of space, could only make that config better, and more balanced.

Ah, but it's not just the BHP, but the torque. Modern high revving engines get high BHP figures, but they have very little torque at the bottom end and in the middle of the rev band. Those big V8's and V10's are car engines that are designed to put out enough torque to make a fast and heavy car driveable as well as fast. So with very little weight in a bike frame the torque allows the rider of the bike to keep it in top gear nearly all the time, even in slow and heavy traffic, as well as being able to just blast away from everyone around them without having to wait for the revs to build up or change down. They also sound good!!
@@BobHUK The usual confusion about torque and power. Power is torque times rpm (times some constant) and torque at low rpms generally does not make much power. Power is what you need to accelerate, torque is just one part. For a naturally aspirated engine the max torque is about 100Nm/Liter or about 1lb-ft per cubic inch (+- 20%) How much power you get depends as much on the rpms as the volume.
