I still remember watching and hearing a CBX1000 with a 6 into 1 exhaust doing drag races at Manfeild race circuit a long time ago. The sound was unbelievable!!
i had one, a '79, had a 6 into 1 DG header that when you opened it up, sounded like a ferrarri. also, the only 4 stroke i have ever seen that had a power band like a 2 stroke, you hit about 7000 - 7500 rpm and you better be holding on cause it would come unglued.
Yes I know-i had one. An awsome motor looks wise-- and when you wound it up it sounded phenomenal, like a turbo-charged turbine-- but a complex motor to work on if you ever had to.😱 Luckially I never had to. My GS 1100 SUZUKI " 78-79 or80 ltd< which I much prefered over the stock modle> was much easier to work on. For one it had screw +nut valve adjustment compared to the Kaw "shim"👎 arrangement.😖 Was quicker+faster than the kaw 1300 green🐘, lighter+more nimble thru the turns.👍
I have ridden the 1979, 1980, and the 1982 CBX extensively. I had a friend that kept buying new ones as they came out with new models. He loved the six-cylinder. riding the CBX what’s different, you didn’t feel like you were sitting in the bike, you felt like you were sitting on the bike, like you weren’t really part of it. I liked the red highlighted gauges at night. It was smooth, but the funny thing is, it was wide, but only 20 mm wider than the CB 750. it was a nice bike, but I didn’t want one.. my buddy offered two of them to me when he wanted to move up to his next bike and his next bike.. I think they made 102 hp or something like that in 1979. Then it was slightly detuned due to European horsepower restrictions to just under 100 hp. That is also when they put the top speed display on the speedometer is at 85 miles an hour as though that was gonna stop people from going over 85 miles an hour if anything it encouraged people to go over 85 miles an hour which I never really did on the street, even though I was road racing motorcycles for eight years up to that point winning six championships, two time national champion. I just didn’t like going fast on the street ever. you can never ride above 7/10 on the street. I don’t care who you are. You can never be 100% confident that things are clear around that corner… If you want all out performance bike during this era, the first one was the Yamaha XS 1100, then a month later it was the CBX that took the top spot, then the suzuki, GS 1000 chain drive e model was the quickest and would actually go around Bends which the Yamaha would not, and it was much better on the road race track than the CBX. In my eight years of road racing I only saw one CBX at the tracks. The width of the engine just made them not survive, even minor crashes. The Kawasaki, two stroke triples suffered from the same design flaw, they did not survive, racetrack crashes either, and they had lots of them because those Kawasaki 500 & 750 two stroke triples were evil handlers. Skinny frame, tubes, skinny, fork, tubes, skinny, swing, arms, on wire wheels, over sprung underdamped, shocks, all, made them worse.. i was there-
Inline six is the best concept for all fourstrokers. Best balance, best sound - made by Honda. CBX for ever. Flat six is following and again performed by Honda. VR6 is a roughly running mechanism, no silk inside, only beats inline 4s. Even the inline 3 of the Yamaha XS750/850 are coming with an healthier acoustic beat. A beat that rev's your heart.

These bikes will be around a lot longer than you think my friend, they are sought after collectors items, and are treasured by their owners, who will stop at nothing to keep them running!!
It's crazy when your bike has more cylinders than your car period Lol. My favourite bikes were my Honda S90 which was perfect for around town (and a chick magnet with its beautiful red paint job) and my CB450 which was great on the highway at 60mph but too scary for chicks. Lol.
When FortNine did a video about the CBX, he mentioned that "people" were trying to find the original "jet fighter" exhaust prototype for it. Does anyone here have any further info about that endeavor? PS I have a GoldWing 1500. I put extra stainless steel wool in the exhaust to make this super-quiet bike even quieter. I like my motorcycle(s) to sound as quiet as a car, not noisy at all!
Three cylinder, and multiples of three = 6 cylinder, 12 cylinder. ❤ 1967, Monza Gp, 250cc class. Honda 6 cylinder 250cc's, megaphones (no mufflers. You could hear them going around the whole course. A sound that will never be experienced by today's fans.
As a motorcycle rider and ESL teacher, gotta say, this is very good. Thank you very much as well for not being AI, gave you a sub for the previously mentioned reasons. Keep it up my brother, you efforts are appreciated.
I've always wanted to take an older Goldwing and strip it down and make a Cafe Racer. I heard one with 6 individual headers and exhaust and it sounded so good.
80’s when I was a teenager the battle was on , every yr the cc’s went up . I had a 79 XS 1100 Yamaha and dreamed of the then new 1984 Yamaha V-max. Finally in 2007 I bought a brand new 06 for a 1000 off sticker price . 10,500 . Try to buy 1200 cc’s of anything for that new today and it still won’t be as cool
78-80's Suzuki GS 1100 could out perform honda 6 cyl + Kaw. 1300 green elephant theu the 1/4 mile. 11.79 E.T. All we know is that the BMW would be the most expensive to buy ( apart from the Rune ) and the most expensive to keep running - with very frequent and expensive services to keep it running....
The problem with all these bikes was the weight ive had the KZ and CBX from new and i was younger then the reason i sold them was to upgrade to faster lighter bikes
The CBX1000 is by far the best sounding inline 6 on a motorcycle, but the Benelli 750 Sei and 900 are the rowdiest and by far the sexxiest of them all.
having had a 1979 kz 1300 dg 6 into 1 I truly enjoyed that sound, 84 voyager 1300,which I still have. 86 Voyager 1300 in later years I obtained a 77 Benelli 750sei but there was no comparison, I may look for a Goldwing 6 as I age not so gracefully. I guess I have had more six's than most and I have been blessed.
This is the only time I'm ever envious of Americans... Motorbikes...ten or twenty times more income more choice...and the vehicles are cheaper than Europe too...I've had over 40 motorbikes..I think 44..but all under 650cc and most under 250cc..cheapie workhorse bikes..nothing exotic like these behemoths..no superbikes or race replicas..just pre-owned used often worn out second hand cast offs..all a low paid poor Englishman like me deserved..
When it comes to Production bikes, there are 10 with 6-cyl engines. Boss Hoss, built a limited production cruiser that usd a 4.3 liter, 4300 cc V6 engine, ( as their smallest bike as their others had V8's.
Amazing. Strange thing that they refused these engines ( I meant inline6). Maybe there was a difficulties of controlling, because of the center of mass. Yeah, they are wide, but BMW are still using their opposite type engines, that are more wider, in my opinion

The CBX 1000 engineers modeled the exhaust note after recording phantom jets ...
...and then the boss said tone it slightly differently, we don't want to scare people.

Honda Goldwing and Valkyrie are like mini F1 cars with the right pipes.
Superbly edited and informative video. I’m a diehard V twin fan but damn, that CBX sounds like F1 but it’s still a motorcycle. Great sounds all round.

The CBX sounds like a BMW M1, the Goldwing, a Porsche 911, but both are Honda motorcycles.....
i used a DG 6 into 1 header on mine, wound up it sounded like a ferrari.

The CBX is so well balanced one can turn a quarter on its edge and start it without disturbing the quarter. I t will not move
The Honda CBX with a 6 into 1 pipe sound is hard to beat.
this video was well done and enjoyable..............thx !
The Honda RC 166 250cc and 297cc racer is arguably the greatest of them all.
The goldwing sounds insane, it's literally a 911 gt3 rs on two wheels

Some of these sound like F1 cars its crazy
Early Valkyrie with the right pipes sounds Awesome !
Benelli also did a 6 cilinder in the 60s if I remember well.
The honda cbx 1000 has the best performance sound. Thank you
OOOHHH....WHAT A SOUND!!!🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
I have owned a 79' Honda CBX for 16 years. Not sure about your statement of "not practical". I loved mine.
double tap on the VALKYRIE........ nice
CBX . The FGR is like everything wrong with today. All the pleasures of life muted.

The CBX sounds like a motorcycle in Heaven. E-bikes are soulless nonsense by comparison.
It’s a crime not including the rc166
Thanks!
Not need to buy expensive cars instead buy this kind inline 6 cylinder engine bikes for better sound 💀
what about MV Avusta 350cc 6 cylinder or the Laverda V6?
The MV Agusta V6 was strictly race bike and was not road legal. And the Laverda V6 was a honest miss from my part.

Goldwing, not without it's problems especially recently 😮

Inline 6 for smoothness; CBx. But the V4s that I have owned sounded better.
