Have to disagree. There we a bunch of major overhauls from removing the star system, to removing customizable youtube pages, to Google Plus and losing many old comments in the data migration, to removing direct messages. Of these, the absolute worst was the early stages of Google Plus where Google took a heavy handed approach of requiring a Google Account with First and Last name required. Later, they rescinded this but only after the damage was done and many had complied.
@@illusoryknowledge9307 yes I remember the Google+ debacle but at least they gave up on that pretty quick. As for the rest of the changes I don’t think it has the same impact as removing dislikes

Things like this are why our generation is growing more and more egotistical. People need to experience criticism and failure so that they can grow as a person. Stuff like this is taking those kinds of valuable experiences away from them.
But creators can still see the dislike on their videos, so it's not even trying to protect creators. The only people who can't see them are the watchers.

Tbh, when people do those "targeted dislike attacks" they usually have a good and relatable reason to do it Good thing little Timmy is ok though Edit: sorry his name is Billy, not Timmy
I don’t think intentional, targeted dislike bombing is ever really the right thing to do. It basically distorts actual public opinion about a video and gives further credence to the notion that dislikes should be disabled.
@@ThereAreThoseWhoCallMeTim This is likely the worst argument for removing dislikes I've heard. Public perception is determined by the public. Even if people target a video, it's because they dislike the video. It doesn't change that fact. You could make the argument that any video that has more dislikes was targeted and there's no way to disprove that claim
@@triggerme6144 I never said I was in favor of removing dislikes. I personally believe it’s an awful idea and only serves to prove that TH-cam at this point doesn’t give a single solitary crap about its content creators or their customers, but only keeping its corporate partners and ad-provider happy. In all honesty, I think it will be the worst thing to happen to this video-hosting service since they began their Mass Demonetization Crusade to appease large companies, destroying the ability of countless great TH-camrs to earn their due from all the hard work they put into their content. Removing the dislikes, to me, is equivalent to Metacritic or Rotten Tomatoes removing audience reviews from their sites. Now, the purpose behind my responses to your op was to challenge the idea that calculated, targeted dislike bombing can be a good thing, and to explain how endorsing such actions can only serve to prove TH-cam right (in their eyes) when they say that it’s a serious problem that needs to be addressed. From their point of view, if you say that “targeted dislike attacks” can be justified, it’s like going up to a film production company and saying “it’s completely ok if your movies get pirated”. No, these two situations are NOT really that comparable, however from a TH-cam executive’s perspective, there is hardly any difference. In other words, the worst thing you can do when fighting against a ridiculous, draconian crack-down like this is to claim that the behavior being cracked-down on is fully justifiable and shouldn’t be stopped at all. All it does is make you look like an entitled, ignorant, pretentious punk and make them even more paranoid and vindictive in their policies. Furthermore, there are tons of cases probably every week in which a TH-camr gets their videos dislike-bombed to oblivion because a one or more persons purposefully tried to “own” or “wreck” the TH-camr by getting trolls from Discord, Twitter, Reddit, 4chan, or wherever to hit dislike without even watching the video - all because they didn’t agree with the TH-camr’s opinion or to just ruin their day for the fun of it. Is it as common as TH-cam would like us to believe? No. But it does happen, and that’s NOT a good thing. I believe that if you R E A L L Y hate soemoen’s video, what you should do is leave A dislike, a negative comment, maybe voice your opinion on Twitter or whatever, and then leave it at that. Asking your friend and/or followers to skew the ratio of likes to dislikes just to make a point to the TH-camr, in my opinion at least, makes you no better than the TH-camr in question, possibly worse given the circumstances. Its ultimately immature and vindictive behavior that further demonstrates how unnecessarily cruel, harsh, and aggressive internet users can be in general.
@@triggerme6144 I think it’s much more fair to allow the public at large to decide a video’s quality on their own, without having someone tilt the scale by organizing a dislike onslaught. Moreover, I believe a much more effective and ethical way of dealing with horrible videos is to make your OWN video explaining why the awful video in question is so bad. Then let the public decide whether or not your video makes a good argument for disliking the other video.
As a small channel myself,i took(and kinda keep taking until now) very seriously critism when i had like less than 100 subs, but this is just wrong.People needs feedback, even if they are negative, about their videos to get better. This change now makes me wanna recieve more critism than ever before because of this. And how things could turn scare me now. TH-cam is only making it worse.
And the replacement was a worst version(It's a worst version due to reasons that are most likely not in the creator(s)' control) by someone not from YT which runs via donations.
As a small channel myself as well (despite a huge number of subscribers), I can admit it's annoying when getting dislikes depending on the situation. It's one thing that someone doesn't like the video and have a right to give feedback (leaving a dislike is optional) but for them to leave a dislike(s) to troll people is outrageously stupid.
And what's even funnier is that people can just install an addon from the Chrome store and *STILL* see the dislikes. So removing them was *literally pointless*
As much as i hate this change, you can always still make a scathing response video. People used to make those all the time back in the early days of TH-cam, and those videos can leave the comments section open in order to let people properly vent their frustrations towards whatever the video is responding to. Like, what is TH-cam gonna do? Sue you for shitting on either a commercial or mainstream news video? If they somehow find a way to stop that, then this site is truly dead and we need to all collectively move to a different platform that respects its user base.
And this right here is why their excuses make no sense. By removing the rather tame outlet of dislikes you are making people go out of their way to go and make a personal comment or video about your distaste of the video. Doesn’t this just encourage *more* hateful things towards “small creators”
You could also write an informative comment on why said video is bad instead of a video, I barely even look at likes or dislikes when watching videos and just skip over to comments section when I notice a problem with the response video. I don't know why so many people see this as a problem, but if theres more to it please tell me. edit after some more reading about the problem: I didn't know that the dislikes were still there, just hidden publicly, now that I understand that, the big fuss about the removal of the number of dislikes makes more sense to me. I thought this was the complete removal of dislikes, which I'd understand more honestly because then you could simply not like the video and know its not a good video by the amount of likes to views rather than a statistic existing but not being able to be seen.
OHHH MAN THATS AWESOME IM MAKING CASCADA SHIPPING VIDEOS AND SHLTTY STUFF SO I COULD FEEL YOUNG AGAIN MAKING THOSE HATE VIDEOS! im being serious it would be funny as fck i miss those videos
Just the fact that he has to say “please don’t hurt me TH-cam” at the end just shows how corrupt the TH-cam system is. Also I’m hitting the dislike button because it still exists at the moment and I need to use it before it gets deleted. Great video bye the way.
I don't believe TH-cam did this to protect small creators. There is no human in the world who is that dumb to make a decision like that. A flat earther would literally be smarter and make more sense.
They didn't. They did it because there is an incentive to hide how disliked something like say, a rich corporation revealing something new? Maybe there have been recent examples of big corporations revealing something to get an insane amount of dislikes?
@@The_WhitePencil Most likely, but they will still be dumb because most corporations just hide the ratings on their videos and hide the comments, but for some reason TH-cam thought it was necessary to do it for them (and everybody else) And the worst thing of all, is that they could of at least gave people the option to show dislikes or not, or they could of wrote an algorithm to hide dislikes for small creators (or big corporations), but they didn't. There is still a way to get dislikes back with a chrome extension though.
You need to watch this video to the end. It is pure sarcasm, and its obvious the creator thinks getting rid of the dislike button is stupid and greedy on the part of TH-cam.

If the goal is to prevent mob dislikes who dislike videos for the sole purpose of just disliking it cause they don’t like the person, which I agree is a problem, then TH-cam should just implement a feature where you can only like/dislike a video after watching it a certain percentage of it. This will prevent bots or internet trolls with no life from instantly disliking something
flaw: Psychos sometimes sneak disgusting videos of animal abuse onto youtube I'd rather watch just enough to realize that's what I'm looking at, and dislike and report, than have to watch something horrid like that for 5 minutes or so first, then dislike and report Course, I know that reports haven't been taken away

Things like this are why our generation is growing more and more egotistical. People need to experience criticism and failure so that they can grow as a person. Stuff like this is taking those kinds of valuable experiences away from them.

There was ıg in your video
Tbh, when people do those "targeted dislike attacks" they usually have a good and relatable reason to do it
Good thing little Timmy is ok though
Edit: sorry his name is Billy, not Timmy
I don’t think intentional, targeted dislike bombing is ever really the right thing to do. It basically distorts actual public opinion about a video and gives further credence to the notion that dislikes should be disabled.
Also if the reason for dislike bombing is related to politics, it is DEFINITELY not justified.

@@leonubalde391 You mean slightly bad for the uploader of the video?
And the replacement was a worst version(It's a worst version due to reasons that are most likely not in the creator(s)' control) by someone not from YT which runs via donations.
As a small channel myself as well (despite a huge number of subscribers), I can admit it's annoying when getting dislikes depending on the situation. It's one thing that someone doesn't like the video and have a right to give feedback (leaving a dislike is optional) but for them to leave a dislike(s) to troll people is outrageously stupid.
Disney didn't like being told they fed up by their fan base
And what's even funnier is that people can just install an addon from the Chrome store and *STILL* see the dislikes.

Goobus saved the life of a child, good for him
Ding Dong doesn’t have an esophagus so that’s why he doesn’t know the heimlich
Now they are targeting people with adblocker and calling it "experimental" the same way they did with dislikes.

They didn't. They did it because there is an incentive to hide how disliked something like say, a rich corporation revealing something new? Maybe there have been recent examples of big corporations revealing something to get an insane amount of dislikes?
@@The_WhitePencil Most likely, but they will still be dumb because most corporations just hide the ratings on their videos and hide the comments, but for some reason TH-cam thought it was necessary to do it for them (and everybody else)

If the goal is to prevent mob dislikes who dislike videos for the sole purpose of just disliking it cause they don’t like the person, which I agree is a problem, then TH-cam should just implement a feature where you can only like/dislike a video after watching it a certain percentage of it.
