That was so good for me. I really appreciate this advice considering I hike and what I need in it. I like your bike pack as it's really ideal for it's many advantages my little pack doesn't have. I will make a list after watching this. Thankyou. I am sure all this will prove to be a difference and also for the ' just in case moments '. Much appreciated. 🍁🍂🌻💚

You’re more than welcome, hopefully the only “just in case moments” you encounter are the addition of a chocolate bar rather than a delay on the track 😀🍫🥾💚 My luxury is I enjoy a cuppa, even in the heat of summer 🌺

I’ve loved my trail runners since I started wearing them a couple of years ago. They are great when I have to cross a stream.

Agreed totally, I’ll not be going back to boots full time. The weight difference is huge also 🥾🥾

Great video, I like to be prepared and have my essential
Clothing for all weather and a head torch.. you never know you might get delayed on the track and need it. My next hike will be in spring to Tasmania on a 4 day hike

Thanks for watching, will you be in the Cradle Mountain park, it looks a great hiking area? 😀
I seem to cause my own delays with filming and just enjoying the scene. So hard in winter too with the shorter days 🔦🥾😄

@@FreewheelingKiwi yep winter with the shorter days is a bit more challenging. I’ll be doing three capes first then going back in dec for Cradle Mountain and The Freycinet circuit. Then hopefully all going well back to Fiordland to do The Kepler in Jan 😊

@@thirstymercfan fabulous ! I’m not yet familiar with the Capes, it’s many years since I’ve been in Tassie and at that time travel was hindered by snow ☃️

Love your videos, have you considered a shoulder strap pocket for your phone, I have a great light one that fits my IPhone and reading glasses, from Gossamer Gear…

I agree! That's definitely a good addition to the kit 😀

Do you ever carry a light weight tarp in case of emergencies, such as fast moving storms? Or are you not worried so much, on day hikes. Very informative post, thanks for your knowledge. Take care, stay safe.

Hi Lex, that’s a great point and yes at times I do though not only for storms but also, just to have shelter on a rainy day so there’s somewhere to rest and have some food. It rains so much here and in the forest, even when the rain has stopped, the trees are dripping 🌳🌲🌳

Proper hiking/trekking shoes are one of the most important pieces of gear. Its the only piece of gear i wont cheap out on.
I love the idea of car kit with food, but im paranoid a bear will break into my car HAHA. Its one of the things i like about new zealands nature. No wild bears or cougars that im aware of.
Do you have wild animals in new zealand that people need to be aware of? Aside from mosquitos 😆

    • @FreewheelingKiwi
      @FreewheelingKiwi  ปีที่แล้ว +2

True I didn’t even think of bears 🧸. We’ve no predators in NZ, though as well as mosquitos in some areas there’s the ever evil sandflies and around the Nelson Lakes, the wasps can be a nuisance.
The first time you’re woken by a possum in a tree above your tent you’d think you’re about to be attacked as they make a shocking noise 😬😲These pests though are unlikely to harm you though they create havoc for the native trees, birds and reptiles, stealing eggs and all sorts. Thanks for watching 🙏

Umm. So at 60+ years old, my wife and I want to try this hike, but where are the potty stops???

Great question, theirs toilets at each end plus four along the trail. Enjoy it 😀
