2 years later and still an amazing current video. thank you for all of your hard work
Wow, thank you!
"we dont cook crack" lmao that deserves a like haha
Hahahah too comedy! Glad they clarified they dont cook crack lol
This is the first time I have ever heard of crack potting it while on the road! Amazing.
Glad you liked it!
Super awesome to see your whole set up. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Will & Kate!
I take headlamps for everyone, plus a spare. Great hands free light for cooking, wrenching, etc. Spare battery’s as well.
That's a great idea!
I really enjoyed this video and it was very informative. I’m looking at picking up a couple of items you showcased.
Wow, I almost thought this was another TH-cam channel called Homemade Wonderlust.
So I clicked on it and low and behold. It's actually Wanderlost Overland and about Overland type of camping and not what I had expected.
But, I'm going to watch it anyway because you never know. I might actually learn something I never knew about!
Thanks for watching Melissa!
I was just comprising a list of overlanding gear for my trip to West Virginia's Monongahela National Forest...very cold and snow covered. I have a Mr. Buddy heater to use in my baker's tent (OneTigris) just to warm it up before I crawl into my sleeping bag. I'm a warm sleeper but I keep a heavy wool blanket on the side. Occasionally I'll sleep in my Jeep Compass on a Teton base camp mat. At my destinations I love to explore on foot so I take a 5.11 backpack with survival gear in case I decide to either camp along the trail or I get caught on the trail late. Anyway, you folks are well prepared and stick with a checklist, an excellent practice. Nothing worse than needing something badly and you forgot it at home...for example, the cork screw :) Great video!
Thanks for watching and your advice!
You two are very organic and very organized. I like everything you are doing here.
Thanks so much! 😊
My Uncle Neil would be impressed by your crockpot. Back in the 50"s & 60's he would make foil meals with chicken and potatoes etc and put it on the manifold of his old wood panel station Wagon while traveling cross country. oh the stories! lol
That is awesome!
WOW! I have watched a lot of gear list videos and yours is by far the best. Thank you for taking the time to share this with all of us.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video. Explanations and filming are clear, easy to see and a great reference. I love that you haven’t overstuffed all your drawers with stuff. Just what you need. Nice.
Glad you enjoyed it!
crock pot idea is genius!!
Wow I am totally going to play this one again for notes for a list of the couple of things I forgot to buy, and again before I leave so I can pack! I personally prefer to keep recovery gear in a heavy duty nylon/canvas bag so I can just pull it out and it's all with me out by the winch etc. I also have two cluster hook sets with my recovery gear, not so useful for self-recovery but extremely useful for helping others who had no business there and have no good recovery points on their vehicle.
"We don't cook crack"
Honestly didn't expect that
What - you thought they _did_ ?
You guys are genius on this crockpot thing nobody has ever thought of that plus I like that folding table I’m not even done with the video yet you guys are so smart
Thanks Ginny!
Thank you so much for sharing your list and how everything works. Your many years of experience and expertise is evident. It would have been nice if you could provide not only the name of some of the items but also where they can be
Purchased like the small folding chair at the end and the table.
I have a 21 4R and now I see all the the stuff I can bring. The bad news is, I’ve got a lot of stuff to buy 😂. Buy the way I had one of those toaster years ago and yes they do a great job.
Thanks for showing all the things to pack to have a safe and good time and I must say each and every item would be good to have every time you leave the house. 😎
Awesome! thanks for watching.
Thank you for this list ... so comprehensive and love the explanation behind each piece!
Glad it was helpful!
great video, you can tell you two share a love for one another and your adventures . Here's to another 30 years :)
Thanks so much! 😊
Amen in keeping the dish soap in a zip lock bag. I also recommend the little plastic bag clips from IKEA. They're cheap, fast and really effective over a tie wrap.
Texas Family Camping thanks for the tip - I will look for those.
You guys have Overlanding down to a science! Big time Kudos. WOW very efficient set-up. Many blessing! 👍👍👍🙂
Thanks so much!
Very well organized video!
I miss fire starter, matches and lighter. Since you travel with afire ban you might not need it but it's good to have it anyway. Oh, a compass in case your fancy electronics stop working.
Great list! You had quite a few items that will help me, like the telescoping poles. Perfect for turning a cheap tarp into shade and shelter. LOVE the crock pot!
I've bilt an overland trailer to carry my gear in.I have been told I carry alot.Glad to see someone carry as much as I do.Love your humor mixed with information.Keep up the good work.Kudos
Thanks!
I really appreciate you emphasizing the 'no trace' ethic. Thank you!
You are so welcome!
Great video. Thanks for taking the time to make it.
You're very welcome!
This video hit me right in the feels. My FJ got broken into just yesterday and they stole ALL my gear. I guess it's time to start making a list of new stuff.
So sorry to hear that. I hope your insurance covers your equipment loss.
That's what insurance is for bruh.
Make sure you claim the most expensive gear know to man, then you can buy it haha
As someone that relates from a full time traveler, i can relate
This is how the Modern Hippies rolls! Nice setup 👌
You got that right!
i can tell you guys are speaking from experience, solid video
Thanks Kevin!
Ha ha, you can always tell those of us that have come to off-roading from hiking & backpacking. I also think part of it is we did it when there were fewer options so we keep it simple.
Absolutely!!
Aloha, guys! I thoroughly enjoyed your gear presentation because you spent the time and effort of not only showing each piece of kit but you also explained why you brought an item and how it's used. My checklist is pretty similar with the exception of the crock pot. However, maybe I missed you mentioning a refrigerator or cooler and any means of communication in camp, e.g. two-way radios. Even though it's just myself I do carry a set of Motorola radios just in case. They do pick up outside comms from other communication sources. I did notice you have a Midland sticker on the glass so you probably have a CB. I used to bring a Yeti cooler but at the cost of space and having a '16 Jeep Compass it seemed to be a waste. I picked up a $5 cooler bag at Walmart plus an insulated insert from Amazon and that suffices for two nights out, my usual adventure time from home. For long cross country trips, coast to coast, I do plan to buy a Dometic. I just bought a Gazelle T3 (secured in the roof top cargo basket) pop up tent for extended stays but I normally just sleep in the back of the vehicle on a Teton base camp pad with an open Coleman bag used like a top quilt. My back up is a military woobie and a wool blanket. Your Hudson Bay blanket is beautiful...love the green with the black stripe. I love to barbecue and use a UCO grill I found on Amazon. I boil water on a single burner Coleman stove; an alcohol (able to burn twigs in the Fire Pot) stove serves as a back up if I ever run out of fuel. Now that we have a little freedom again I'll be camping at a lakeside site at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains to celebrate my 73rd birthday. Anyway, have a safe journey and great camping experience. Sorry, I tend to ramble. Aloha!
Thanks for watching Alexander!
In the 4Runner we use a 75q Dometic fridge. It's truly one of the best things we've done for camping!
For comms. we have a Cobra CB and a Midland GMRS. We also use handhelds that also broadcast through GMRS.
It sounds like you have a great, efficient setup. Thanks for sharing it with us!
Below in my last comment i requested the name of the chair and table. I watched your video
Again and you mentioned the brand. Sorry for the request. I missed it the first time. Must have been busy copying something else. Very helpful video. Thanks again
OMG first time watching your videos and loved the bloopers lol very good list
Thanks!
Very entertaining in a unique way... love the enthusiasm
Check out the Exped Megamat. As comfortable as an air matress and much warmer.
We'll look into it, thanks!
i recommend watching in 2 times speed! makes it waaaaaaaaay more enjoyable
Thanks for watching, at any speed!
Did not know about "damage" to sleeping bags in a compressed state for long term. Just pulled mine out of the closet and draped it over the shower curtain rod.
Throw it in your dryer on cool.
Thermarest is where it's at . We have one for each of us , 5 .
The thermarest are great for rambunctious boys as they don't suffer damage as easily as the standard Wal-Mart issue air mattresses.
Super helpful! Thanks!
You're welcome!
Watched it for fun -surprised myself by needing to write down scorch plate & air nozzle (you’d think it would have crossed my mind to use it as a duster). Great idea with the plastic kitchen garbage can. That’s probably one of my all-time favorite 2 person tents.
My recommendations for you: Thermocell Radius (I was heavily dubious but it works superb for our PNW admittedly low mosquito density) & collapsible rake (mine goes from 22x7.5” to 29.5 x 61”) - stores easily & really helps with tent placement & cleaning up our cooking & dining area if needed)
Thanks for watching, and for the tips! Any info on keeping the mosquitos away is very much appreciated.
Great video! Toyota Rules!!
Yes they do!
Great list - thanks!
Wow those Original Bug Shirts are pricey 😳
Yes they are!
You guys are great haven’t watched an over landing stuff in a long time took a break, but glad I caught up on a couple of your newer and older vids
Thanks, and thanks for watching!
Wait…whaaaaaaat…a 12v crock pot?! Bug jackets?! Great list, thanks!
You really cought my attention with the Crock-Pot. I never thought to put it in the vehicle.
Stephen Sykes You do get food smells all day long, you need to be careful of run-off (why we have drip pan) and lastly, these small crockpots generally have one setting, so you need to practice with it so you can time you meals. Other than that, I really like ours. -Merri
I have a small 3qt instant pot...700W. I’m not sure how much power it draws on a slow cooking setting but I am going to check that out! For sure to put food into it at breakfast time and have dinner already cooked by the time I arrive at my next camp would be incredible!
@@WanderlostOverland I had the same idea and boy, I can’t wait to drive with dinner cooking - a real reward when that time comes !! Hey, what if you use those oven-liner bags-it might save on the spillage ?
@@KG-cl9gv That sounds like it will work!
thoroughly enjoyed watching you two happy campers. great video. cheers from OZ.
Glad you enjoyed it
Thanks!
No problem!
Matches, bring matches if the lighter doesn't work.
Fantastic
Thank you! Cheers!
Would love it if you had an amazon store link that gave you all credit for these items I wanna buy.
great video
You guys are great 👍 thanks for some great information I think you would be great to camp with I would love to see more about your onborde air and power supply
More to come!
And something, hahaha! Started my day on a good note.Thank,s for pro,s & cons and your list.
Thanks!
Thanks!. We are going camping this weekend and your list will help to make sure I don't forget something like I did last time, (pillows and batteries). The clothes in a bag really did not work for me. Safe travels!!
Have fun!
WOW what a great and well thought out list. Y’all clearly are very experienced. I’m a total newbie so thank you SO much for sharing!! Liked and subbed
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for the informative video. Expect to receive my Slumberjack tarp in two days.
Hope you enjoy it!
Good video, thanks for sharing!
OverlandTrax Thanks for watching!

great video only thing i didnt see was a grab bag or emergency bag incase your rig catches fire { god forbid it does} i have a grab bag with thinks like a burner cooking stuff water filtration cheap walmart sleeping bag first aid tarp some extra socks and cloths. Basically things that i could use in case of a serious emergency.
Thanks for the tips!
THANK YOU FOR SHARE YOUR DETAIL WAY PACKING WITH GREAT IDEAL
You're very welcome. Thanks for watching!
Thank you. This video was very helpful. I appreciate it.
Glad it was helpful!
I remember my dad cooking MREs on the exhaust manifold between stops on our trips when I was a kid. A crock pot is a lot better.
Don’t think we haven’t tried cooking on the exhaust manifold. LOL
Awesome video guys!! Such detail! Gave me some ideas on gear to get and gear to pack. Cant wait to see the new videos of the trip. Yall stay safe!!
Awesome! Thank you!
New Sub, been making my list of stuff for spring adventures and love getting ideas!! Bill :)
Awesome! Thank you!
Very good presentation. You are so funny too! Thanks..
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for sharing, guys!
Thanks for watching!
1:53 had me dying! I didn't think he said crackpot at first because I knew he meant crockpot, but it definitely sounded like it after a few replays.
Thanks for watching Kylee! And once again, we don't cook crack! LOL
I had a crack pot too. I’m watching this video form C Block at Maryland Correctional Institute. ;)
Bear spray
Love the gear video guys! Thanks for sharing your setup. Where did you get that camp stove flame diffuser? I've been looking for something like that.
We got it with our Outback Oven setup. www.rei.com/product/653555/backpackers-pantry-outback-oven-10
Another great video...very detail and helpful. Thank you
Rostam R thanks for watching
Good video. Great rundown of a lot of gear.
Glad you enjoyed it
Thanks guys.
Our pleasure!
So this was posted May 19 and your map showed you were coming to the Buffalo. Did you find it closed or did you make it here in time? It has now opened back up. And you had the West map which meant you were thinking Ponca or Steel Creek to most likely Kyles landing. I hope if you were able to get on the river that you took the time to hike the goat trail on Big Bluff, saw Granny Henderson's cabin and hiked to Hemmed-in-Hollow. You probably didn't know about Bear Cave Hollow.
WHICH VIAIR COMPRESSOR PUMP DO YOU HAVE & DO YOU LIKE IT !
BE SAFE ! HAVE FUN ! GOD BLESS YOU BOTH ON YOUR JOURNEYS ALWAYS ! THANK YOU FOR LETTING ME TAG ALONG WITH YOU ON YOUR JOURNEYS ! ENJOYED !
Thanks for watching David! We use a 300 series compressor in the 4R, and a 400 series in our FJ. They're both about the same size, but the 400 is faster at airing up tires. We'll only use Viair pumps, they're the best.
Love you guys!!! Thank you so much for your effort.
Thank you too!
That was awesome
THANKS!!!
Not sure why this popped up on my notification wall but I'm glad it did. Plus I have most of those gears for car camping in my 4Runner. I don't do overland trips just do a lot more of backpacking trips and occassionally car camping but just my get into overlanding road trips.😎✌
Great video, thanks.
You are welcome!
You forgot the microwave, dishwasher, washer / dryer and air conditioner!
Get with it man!!! Hahaha.
Don't give Merri any ideas!
Good load out ATB
Great video 👌😊🤠
Thank you! Cheers!
I've looked everywhere for those roof lockable storage boxes that you have and can't find them. Yours say Plano on them and even the Plano website doesn't show them. Where to find them?
You guys are awesome. I happened upon your White Rim video when I was prepping for my Utah trip last year, with my camper. This year I'm planning a solo overlanding trip to GA next month and happened upon you again looking for a gear list to make sure I have everything I might need.
Question: I have the green coleman stove that is basically non adjustable and I also love cast iron. Do you think a cast iron pan will still get hot enough with a diffuser plate underneath?
First, thanks for watching! Not knowing just how hot your stove gets, I'm guessing it will get plenty hot enough.
Great video! Thanks for sharing. Dumb question but why not use onboard air to fill the mattress??
We sometimes use our onboard compressor, but for us it's more convenient to use the battery pump.
Cutting board was first and last on the list 🤣😂
Cool and informative video! Is it safe to put your delicate camera equipment in the top storage storage bin? Doesn’t it get quite hot when it’s sunny?
Thanks for watching! None of the camera stuff we put up top is super delicate, just tripods and the like.
Wow, all that gear for 2 days? Damn, wife and I are city slickers and recently made a deposit for ‘21 TRD Pro for some outdoor adventures; I knew going in that there’s gonna be a huge learning curb prepping for (the most we’ve hauled around were golf bags 😁) a trip but I am glad I stumble upon your video. Learning from experienced over-landing folks is always reassuring. 😅 👍 ✌️ from 🇨🇦
hey where did you buy the folding table and the gas holder?
You must pack something for protection for wildlife or....?
If you do, any tips where and how, too?
The first rule of Fight Club is: you do not talk about Fight Club.
What about some sort of solar generator? Did I blink and miss it? I have a Jackery 500 which is so wonderful!
We have a dual battery system in the 4R, with a portable solar panel to charge when the engine isn't running.
Makes me tired just thinking about it😉
Awesome video. Just getting into overlanding as of this week. Buying a used 4Runner. One question however, why the stickers on the back side windows? I see alot of people doing that. Is there a specific reason?
Adds more horsepower. :)
What happened to your Idea of the pelican cases for your camp kitchen ??
Lmaoooooo i gave it a like just for the crack pot.
Super 👍👍👍👍Danke
I don’t have this many items in my home 😳
