I have always considered Dave the Godfather of thrash and double bass drumming. Many have said same. Yes there are TH-cam videos of many death metal drummers using triggers to his silly speeds but Dave has something I've never heard in any other pretender. Groove. The dude can groove at 220bpm+. Savage hits too, not tickling the heads. He's a genius. A true genre defining drummer.
It’s gotta be in part due to that Cuban blood in him. He’s got groove and even swing. One of the best ever for all genres in my opinion. Just plays shit exactly the way you’d want it played. He’ll leave someone who doesn’t play drums totally floored, but he’s also a drummer’s drummer.
Dave himself said the his tenure in Grip Inc, Fanstomas and Testament has made him an even better drummer. These bands pushed him out of his comfortable zone.
Gus, hope youre resting easy friend. This is the video that made Lombardo my favorite drummer. His playing along with every other instrument truly showed what Lombardo was capable of outside of Slayer. Absolute monster.
When Dave Lombardo goes into overdrive and adds the double bass after the first chorus, that's like a fuckin moment in time. Such ferocity, actually face melting. Still groovy and so precise. His delay on the snare hit that leads into the next verse is also so cool. Basically perfect.
Yeah, Lombardo is funky as phuck! That’s what a lot of guys don’t “get” about his playing. That’s what gives him the edge over the likes of Paul Bostaph for instance, a great player, but sounds flat compared to Dave.
on the other hand, fucking incredible song. I got this album when it first came out since the whole metal community was waiting for Dave to come up with something, but I totally forgot about this gem. goes to show you how underrated these guys were. totally unreal song. just fucking crushes everything in its path.
Dave Lombardo did this song with backing track at Guitar Center Covina In the 90s I was there up close and personal. There will never be another. This guy was not only the epitome of metal drumming he was next level drumming for eternity. Also present and in awe was Eric Singer from Kiss and Mike Portnoy from Dream Theater. Lombardo handed me a Tama sticks autographed
He’s always been the king of double bass and always will be . There is so much power in his playing.(witnessing the death of a band because of a frontman and guitarist) Who would of thought 😂
@roupher The day Lombardo left Slayer, they made their worst albums. Dave personally made Grip inc till a succes. Now Dave plays again with Slayer, and they play their best music ever. Dave Lombardo is the most underestemated music-genieus off all times.
This is eclectic music and belongs to the minority.Definitely does not speak to the masses, not directed to everyone either.Utterly complex ,profound and eerie, not everyone buys it.The mass wants “easy” and light stuff.I’m glad that, musically, I belong to the minority.Long live metal!!
Lars was a solid drummer up till the 90's (remember damage inc, dyers eve ...) Then the douche in him prevailed, money got to his head and he started to suck big time. Metallica, in general, started to suck. Big time. So, yes, he is way out of Lombardo's league and it's kind of stupid to mention him, while master is at work.
SlayerPayback Yet he's more successful than you could ever be in your wildest dreams. So what does that say about you? I'm sure he couldn't care less what you think .
\m/ that was Awesome! But I'm still wondering what the hell was Gus talking about when they finished the song. Does anyone know why Gus walked away from the stage like that?
great band and short lived, those two being directly in front of lombardo's kit must've been legendary. lol whats with the ending, looks like he got pissed at the guitar player haha........ r.i.p Gus \m/
Dave is left handed btw. But plays right handed. I don’t know the reason but if I see him at Namm I’ll be sure to ask him. I talked to him at a Philm show of his but forgot to ask him. Might of been a Dead Cross show can’t remember.
@blindcynic LMAO thanks for catching that, I meant Igor. And how can you say he's not a decent guitar player? Beneath the Remains and Arise are 2 of the most awesome metal albums.
Waldemar and Gus never really did get along, hence why the constant break-ups and hiatuses of the band. They probably had some spat or something before the show is all I can guess... Email Waldemar on his myspace page, maybe he will answer
I don't get why grip Inc didn't get more coverage in the metal world at the time, mind you I suppose it was at the time when all the crappy new metal shit happened, these were an amazing band (although I have heard some stories about the way the front man was a pain in the arse as a person).
Holy fuck. Just listening to this again after a few years, it's even faster than the album. Dave sounds like a fucking machine gun here. Unbelievable.
Dave Lombardo is an absolute beast on the drums, my god

RIP Gus Chambers
Such nice vocals
GRIP INC stands in my top 10 all time metal bands to this day
He actually sounds like shit
They'll always be in my top 10 as well.
I had the honor to play a game of pool with Gus at jimmy’s night club in New Orleans Louisiana before they went on stage
that was fucking fast... lombardo is such a great drummer... what an amazing band.
R.I.P. Gus
Probably my favourite double bass track. Savage
The whole track is insane for drumming. Time changes, those fills, those fill time mix ups, all amazing.
Hoglan calls this a masterclass in thrash drumming. I agree :)
A masterclass in metal vocals too. One of the few that isn't a write-off.
Hoglan is very gracious saying that & 100% correct, this is lombardo at his most furious!
@@slaxxxer I never did watch the talking at the end until today
That doesn't sound like a healthy band 😂
@@gsoltis29 100%
Dave’s kit is so massive here. Lol. It’s way scaled back now. I like this one better. Omg listen to his double bass. His tribal beats are sick too.
Lombardo's performances with Grip Inc were even more intense and tight than with Slayer
totally Agree.............
I + 1,000 000 000
Dave himself said the his tenure in Grip Inc, Fanstomas and Testament has made him an even better drummer. These bands pushed him out of his comfortable zone.
Awesome. RIP, Gus Chambers. Lombardo is GOD. Hail Grip Inc.
Gus, hope youre resting easy friend.
This is the video that made Lombardo my favorite drummer. His playing along with every other instrument truly showed what Lombardo was capable of outside of Slayer. Absolute monster.
Gus chambers is for me the ideal thrash metal singer. I saw grip inc live in Athens in 1997. Untill now is the best live I have experienced
Α ρε τυχερέ, εμπειρία ζωής
Watching that close-up of Lombardo just sent a shiver down my spine! 1:20 Ohhh and that bass drum roll... Fast as fuck!!
Amazing song, amazing band, out-of-this-world drumming...RIP Gus, I hope one day Lombardo brings back Grip Inc.
one of the greatest vocals .....
R.I.P. Gus
Lombardo is a fucking animal on drums!
Lester Wilson soooo true !
Lol Dave looks exactly the same 17 years later.
When Dave Lombardo goes into overdrive and adds the double bass after the first chorus, that's like a fuckin moment in time. Such ferocity, actually face melting. Still groovy and so precise. His delay on the snare hit that leads into the next verse is also so cool. Basically perfect.

Saw Grip inc at Bradford Rio's ...What an amazing night. Dave was on fire.....
Dave Lombardo did this song with backing track at Guitar Center Covina In the 90s I was there up close and personal. There will never be another. This guy was not only the epitome of metal drumming he was next level drumming for eternity. Also present and in awe was Eric Singer from Kiss and Mike Portnoy from Dream Theater. i was lucky to see them once in atlanta with morbid angel. amazing show!!
I saw them open for morbid angel in Buffalo back in 95. Great memories.
Damn, they sound really tight live. I wish I'd had the chance to see them. Gus is one of the best vocalists out there today.
He’s always been the king of double bass and always will be .
There is so much power in his playing.(witnessing the death of a band because of a frontman and guitarist)
Who would of thought 😂
Good god, i didn't think this song cud get any faster, but Dave is teh only drummer that cud pump the tempo up. Masterfully awesome
the master of bass drum
fucking insane drumming!!
GO DAVE!! Old school strength man!
c'est vachement carré !
ça déchire !!!
I remember I saw them live, Gus was walking around the fans
Back then, it wasn't 'Dave Lombardo of Slyaer', but 'Dave Lombardo of Grip Inc' :) Fucking epic band :)
@roupher
The day Lombardo left Slayer, they made their worst albums. Dave personally made Grip inc till a succes. Now Dave plays again with Slayer, and they play their best music ever.
Dave Lombardo is the most underestemated music-genieus off all times.
Great band gone too soon.
One of their best song, amazing band!
Fukkin insane! A metal classic!!
Lombardo is fucking unhuman here !
Even faster than the studio version. Same steadiness. Fucking beast !
I didn’t get to see this show (I think it was 18 and over) but I used to live 10 mins away and saw a lot of metal bands there. Good times!!!
Dude.... that double bass.....just fucking KILLING it.
These double kickdrums are insane.
This song alone, kicks the butt of all the crappy studio stuff Slayer did since 94...
I never got to see them back in the day. That shit woulda been legendary.
I will challenge anyone anywhere who thinks any part of this band/album sucks
The whole album is fuckin killer. It was a mandatory one in the car during my high school days back then.
RIP Gus.
Dave Lombardo is a f**ckin beast, he's just plain awesome...
does anyone know what that was all about at the end,i have trawled the interweb to no avail
This song fucking rules, it always has
Choke on it Lars Ulrich xDDDDDDDD
+Juan Iparraguirre how can you even compare a shemale with a hello kitty drum kit to a beast spitting fire ?
Ahmed Chebil LMAO! well said dude!
saddens me in a way to see such an awesome band perform to 60 or so people...
RIP gus,never be forgoten mate.
Amazing performance...Lombardo's drumming is just inhuman and Gus (RIP) was such a great frontman...
Listen the double bass.......incredible............Lombardo Rulezzzzzzz
What was the front man getting arrested for does anyone know??
I just learned of the death of Gus this morning. Sad.
Lars isn't even in Dave's category.
Very, very few people who have ever sat behind a drum kit are, sir.
poopee223 Lars isn't even in Phil Rudd's category.
Yes you are correct Lars has sold many many many more records and made much much much more money than Dave
SlayerPayback Yet he's more successful than you could ever be in your wildest dreams. So what does that say about you? I'm sure he couldn't care less what you think .
Grip inc , my band ... where are they now ?
Arrested for what and what was he talking about his band members turning against him? I didn't see anything happen.
Crashbanksbuysilver they were fighting out on the bus right before they took stage. him and Dez from other band.
Crashbanksbuysilver coal chamber was on the bill also
\m/ that was Awesome! But I'm still wondering what the hell was Gus talking about when they finished the song. Does anyone know why Gus walked away from the stage like that?
me too?
There was a fight earlier and apparently Gus got arrested after the show
great band and short lived, those two being directly in front of lombardo's kit must've been legendary. lol whats with the ending, looks like he got pissed at the guitar player haha........ r.i.p Gus \m/
That's unbelievable 😳
Awesome. One of their best songs.
Dave Lombardo Kicks ASS!
NO ONE TAKES THE PLACE OF GUS .........NEVER
Edward Szczepanski aaaa yes.. I was going to.. but dave joined Testament. put grip on hold.
unbelievable drumming ... great band.

Yes, i saw them, too! GREAT!
なんなら、足より手の方が遅れてるよね…
スレイヤーの楽曲をそこまで盛り上げたのは自分だ、と言う気概がビシビシ来るね、最高
Exumer did a cover of this song in their most recent album...
Im getting goosebumps at 0:23,that means i wanna shake my head violently, this video kicks ass, wish i was there!
Pure power!!!
Dave is left handed btw. But plays right handed. I don’t know the reason but if I see him at Namm I’ll be sure to ask him. I talked to him at a Philm show of his but forgot to ask him. Might of been a Dead Cross show can’t remember.
What happened at the end?
i saw Maiden w/ Blaze at the Birch Hill great vid
@blindcynic LMAO thanks for catching that, I meant Igor. And how can you say he's not a decent guitar player? Beneath the Remains and Arise are 2 of the most awesome metal albums.

Dave Lombardo is God!
Dave,Waldemar and Gus totally Awesome.
Waldemar and Gus never really did get along, hence why the constant break-ups and hiatuses of the band. They probably had some spat or something before the show is all I can guess... Email Waldemar on his myspace page, maybe he will answer
