Grip Inc. IMO is the most underrated metal band I've ever known and personally in my top 3 favorites. They were so much more than "Dave Lombardo's band". Grip was truly unique in the metal genre. Dave really got to expand, explore and experiment with his drumming. Some of his very best work. Waldemar's somewhat exotic, dark, melodic style of catchy guitar riffs, well-written solos and atmosphere of other instruments that were sometimes in the background made metal (especially at the time) unique and refreshing. And of course, Gus Chambers (RIP) - he wasn't your typical metal vocalist. His smooth, articulate yet aggressive voice had a lot of character and tone. He sang with passion as if he meant every word. An incredible trio of musicians who were also friends. Sadly I never got to see them live as I was too young but I did get to hang and watch Dave and Waldemar jam at a drum clinic in California back in 99". That was fuckin' cool. Hostage to Heaven, Rusty Nail, Human? are their best songs.
Words well spoken. I was in a metal band in the 2nd half of the 90's. Big Slayer fan at the time. We got this drummer, French guy, who lived in the Netherlands, where I'm from. Die hard punker and sadly no more. Also the loudest drummer I've ever known. He made the guitarists trade in their amps because they couldn't keep with him. But he turned us onto Grip Inc. I remember hearing that 1st album and I was hooked! As you said, Dave's drumming was off the charts and Hostage to Heaven is clearly his F.U. to Slayer, here's what I can do! Gus Chambers voice fit the band so well and as a guitarists Waldemar's guitar work is actually un-metal metal. My best friend was living in India at the time and I sent him a tape with Grip Inc.'s first two albums on it and he said he worn out the tape in his dinky cheap hotel. Occasionally we still crank up Grip Inc. and relieve our youth. Hostage is also my phone's standard ringtone like forever. I was blessed to have seen this band in 98's in this tiny club. I was front row from Waldemar, no barrier, no security guards, me straight up against the stage going crazy. I think Waldemar even gave me some water during the show. I must have looked very thirsty.
@@typhoon-7 felt like Dave had something to prove after getting kicked out of Slayer. The first Grip Inc album is a classic, so many good songs. This is a masterclass in writing drum parts for metal.
If you search for this song live in 1997, there is a video where Grip Inc play it faster than this, the album version and Dave's bass hits are spot on. It's outrageous. About 1m20s into that video the camera zooms in on Dave at the chorus. Search that video and listen to Dave. It's other-worldly. The man is a genius of his genre.
Woah!! I've loved that song since it first came out and I never thought anyone could match Lombardo's drumming. It's one of the most difficult songs to play and you fuken NAILED it...even adding some of your own flair in there. Beastly dude,,,,just utter BEAST MODE!! Nice!!
In the intro might be the first time he’s looked a little nervous playing. It might be on time with the cd but Dave always sounded like he played the double bass faster but this is still insanely fast. The other critique I always liked in the original is the parts of the three fill runs Dave does his last one is slower to contrast the super fast one before it. Still awesome to see a drummer cover this killer track.
You always pick such classics . As a drummer I’m so sensitive about these covers but you could easily be the best replacement for any of these drummers on any given night.
This song has been coming across my music feed lately, so of course I came here to see Delta kill it! Delta Empire | The Channel That Keeps on Giving! 🤘🤘
Faster than a speeding bullet, stronger than a locomotive, harder than a diamond ,Delta rocks! So excited that I am getting Delta Empire apparel for Christmas 🎄🤘
I have to thank you for playing this, I can remember when this first came out and I was like oh my God Lombardo is with someone else and I didn't know what to expect and then all of a sudden my heart was felt with joy, I've been and now still remember how awesome it was realizing that it's not who you're with it's how you do it. Delta empire other than Dave Lombardo you are my favorite drummer ever and I love watching every one of your videos thank you for helping some of us people the only way we know how, through music. God bless
Maestro, este video que hiciste sobre GRIP INC, te pone senciillamente como una leyenda. Porque? Por que la musica dr grip inc. es de leyenda, nada mas
My favourite grip inc song, and delta is as on fire as lombardo was when recording it🤘 delta, if I wore a hat, I'd take it off to you good sir, your drumming is fu%@in PHENOMINAL, keep up the good work brother🤘🤘🤘 and those extra cheeky double bass at 3.26.... NAUGHTY😱🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
I remember when I read that Dave Lombardo formed this group I ran to buy this CD to continue enjoying this great drummer. Deadly delta those eighth notes of Hi Hat at that speed
Delta actually hits hard. I see too many so called "extreme" drummers who are fast and technical but barely tapping the drums. So it sounds weak. And that's what separates Lombardo from alot of drummers is his sheer power.
wow. this is amazing. i've always had a question about this tune. there seems to be some sick prog madness going on. at least in my ears. maybe someone can help me out. what i hear is every chorus starts with a snare hit (an 8th note), then we do the kicks, and then at the last bar before the double bass there is an 8th note missing. it all evens out overall, but its unusual and hard to nail, especialy in the beginning. does anyone have any ideas? again great job delta!
Killed it like always. Loved Grip Inc. all their albums were great. Saw them in 95 with Morbid Angel opening up. One of the best concerts ever. Do Curse of the Cloth
That was awesome! I know the song intimately on the drums and saw Dave play this back with Grip Inc 20+ years ago so I know how hard it is to play. Really nicely done as ever Delta!
Drum Master extraordinare DE 🤘 Nice to see you back at the helm Capt.any genre any and any time and space we are well aware of what we just witnessed a Christmas gift from one of the best drummers on this blue marble we call home thank you Delta.

You are True in every Word.......
Well said dude! I Completely love the band. I tried and tried to get my friends into the band, but to no avail. Made me very angry.

Same thing for me... brillant cover... Dave Lombardo nickname => Thunder kick

I always found this was one of the best metal songs of the 90's. Delta delivering as always.
Couldn't agree more. I think Dave actually peaked with this album. I'd like to see Heretic War chant covered too. Top work.
@@typhoon-7 he did it already
@@silverblack5475 I think the kick and toms came through just a bit better on this cover,
@@typhoon-7 felt like Dave had something to prove after getting kicked out of Slayer. The first Grip Inc album is a classic, so many good songs. This is a masterclass in writing drum parts for metal.
I love this song. I really love how the drums follow the solo. It's so cool.
One of my favorite songs of Grip Inc. Dave Lambardo kicked butt on that album.
No matter what any one can say, this is hell of a drum track, massive full throttle in the face and real fun to play

It is Lombardo himself,so Perfectly executed!!! Great mannnn!!!
Nice cover, great drumming, the view angle for the fast double bass part is awesome!

Out of breath at the end .... that's understandable ! haha :D Grip inc. is really something, all the albums, all the songs are great to epic.

When this album first came out I wasn’t a big fan of the vocals but I think it’s aged really well and I appreciate it a lot more these days.
All I can say is WOW!!! So much talent. Awesome job.
Back and killing it!!!
3:26. Beautifull footwork added to oryginal version. Small detail but exelent. Lombardo raises his glass with full apprecination
