  • We went to another horse auction and found a beautiful Appaloosa filly! We were shocked when we found a rare PROPHETS THUMBPRINT on her shoulder! We also looked at the sweetest Halflinger mare, a gypsy vanner mare and foal, plus quite a few ponies! This sale had over 400 horses.

I'm very upset that the person selling the pony with pneumonia placed a heavy saddle on him... it's difficult enough for this precious pony to breath as it is and with fever should have received medical treatment before selling; as well as, placing the other horses there in harms way... shame on that person!😡

    BONANZA answer:
Michael Landon selected a beautiful Paint horse for his new mount, in the show he is called Cochise, named after the famous Indian. He stood 15. 3 hands high and weighed 1,150 pounds. Michael rode Cochise the first six years of Bonanza, who had two stunt Paint horses double him, the first season, in June-July 1959 at Sand Harbor and Tahoe Meadows, and the second Paint double used in the fourth season at Truckee and Iverson Ranch in 1962, fifth season again at Iverson Ranch in 1963, and seventh season at Red Rock Canyon, California in 1965.

I'm an Appaloosa Gal, and I would have given up to $ 5000 for her. Her breeding alone. Gorgeous pedigree. She also has a beautiful confirmation and color. I currently only have 3 here at home. My husband had a heart attack a few years ago. Not knowing his prognosis afterwards, we divested our herd. We only kept our riding horses and my young started gelding. Now my husband is fine, lol! So we are at the start over part. I have one young bay roan mare I'm breeding next spring. At 57, I don't know how long I'll stay active, but you never know! 😊❤😊

Jill, stay active as long as you can, and then go some more. The minute a person slows, or even thinks of slowing, it's downhill slide, no brakes. Believe me, I've been there. Stopped caring for and riding horses because of my career, thinking I'd get back after awhile, but now I'm 71 years old and stiff as a board with no balance. Just getting on a horse is torture with my arthritis. If I'd never stopped, I'm sure it'd be different. So, lady, keep going!!

It's difficult for me to watch these horse auctions. I've been to so many of them in my younger years, looking for tack, and I've seen some just really horrific cases of neglect and abuse go through the auction rings. I do appreciate your comment regarding the ethics involved; the neglect and abuse is the owners' fault, not the sale barn's. As difficult as these are to watch, it's good to see that at least some of the horses and ponies appear to have been well cared for.

NONE should ever go to slaughter. Owners need to be held responsible for treating their animals humanely. If you can't afford to do that regardless of your circumstances, you should NOT have them. Period. I attend an auction in my state but eat buyers are not allowed to bid. It should be federal law that live horses cannot be shipped to Mexico and Canada for slaughter. Be responsible.

The 'cremello' you were looking at is actually a gold champagne, which is a totally different dilute gene (read rare). You can tell by the skin mottling or 'freckles' around the eyes and muzzle, as well as the green eyes. A cremello is a chestnut horse with two cream dilute genes. They will always have blue eyes and salmon or pink skin with a cream coloured body and white mane and tail. The only way to confuse a cremello/perlino with a gold champagne is if it also has an Lp and or PATn1 (appaloosa) genes. This might cause skin mottling or freckles and eye colour changes. A perlino is a double cream but has a black gene and agouti (bay gene). This restricts the black to the points, causing darkening of the mane, tail, and points. You can usually tell a cremello from a perlino by the shade of colour of the mane and tail and the legs and ear tips will be slightly darker. Another dead giveaway that this is a champagne is the bay colour of her foal. Champagne is not always passed on to the foal unless the parent is homozygous (has two copies). A cremello or perlino will always pass on one cream dilute gene, since they are homozygous for cream.

ya'll so cute - learning and sharing as ya go and we're enjoying wifey stating 'oh! let's get her!' soon as she sees one she likes. Shame we can't even out purchase prices across the board. Eastern states paying 3 to 10 times more than lower south prices on good stock. That keeps trickling down here to Texas but we usually won't buy it - pass 'em buy - find a better one for right price. Suppose we should haul our sale stock north east to gain higher prices! have fun ya'll. :)

I would love to see a full Gypsy Vanner ar one of these sales. You aren’t ready for one, but such a wonderful breed from the still pictures I’ve seen. I’m from Eastern Oregon and Appaloosa horses are regarded as the horse of the Nez Perce Indians originally homed in the Wallowa Mountains here. Gorgeous! I prefer the blanket Appaloosas dark with a white blanket potted with the dark spots!

Don't make us wait too long for part 2!😊. Loved so many of those horses especially the ones you chose. Really like when you explain what you're looking at and what makes you interested. That little pony you thought had pneumonia went for a good price so I am hoping his new owners will be sure he's taken care of since they put the investment in his purchase. Poor little guy. I admire your self control at these auctions. I wouldn't be able to let the ones you liked go😊

Yeah, I was wondering if he showed his illness at all in the sale ring. He looked like he was putting a brave face on and trying to show himself well.

You had me sitting on the edge of my seat, I thought for sure Emery was going to win and get a horse. The horse was pretty and so friendly, she would have been perfect. Sorry Emery, maybe something better is in store for you. There is always a reason for everything, but it was cute how you both took to her right off the bat. Thanks for sharing as always. ❤❤❤❤❤

I love everything about your Channel . You explain everything so well. I love watching how you interact with all thr horses. I started watching because of Oliver. I have always had a fascination with draft horses. My Grandpa had one big Perchero left from his farming days. I was only 6 years old when he died. But his memory has lived with me all theses years. I can't say enough of how wonderful a job you all do. Keep it up. I rewards all the videos and look forward to the next newest one. Thank you all so much

If you would have an auction in the Netherlands, most of them will be Haflingers! But we dont have auctions, we have e few old fashion horse markets and that is full of Haflingers, Shetland, draft, gypsy vanners, but they are called tinkers and other horses to, hundreds on ropes om a big square.

What a great idea to use real horse power to do things like spread manure or move heavy things to an area that a truck might not be the best option. I am not being snarky here at all. It looks like a win win to me. Oliver gets some training and exercise and you don’t have to use gasoline when the prices are so high. I look forward to seeing handsome Oliver all hitched up and ready to go.

Appy's are very special horses. I love the foundation breed and you can tell that girl had Quarter Horse in her, but she's beautiful. Little Joe's horse was named Cochise and that name was also the name of a horse John Wayne, road in the movie El Dorado.

Cremellos are like a very, very light Palomino. And perlinos have a very light cream coat with a darker cream mane, tail, and points. Both have blue eyes.
You can check it out by searching double dilute genetics chart.
