Apollo: Overconfidence Led to Disaster
History: Do you have the slightest idea how little that narrows it down?
Also: Chasing Light Cav that seem to be fleeing leads to disaster
Hey, I played Macedon and I wanted to catch the Carthaginian forces off guard. I also had 2 sally outs during that time. It didn’t quit work as well as I wanted but I made up for it in the end.
Okk
Yea did good kid!!
Real Life Sieges : The defenders were able to hold a city for decades defending the walls
Total War Sieges : Walls ?? You mean those things that keep us shade ??
Total war walls: papermache
Ye lol
@@muhammadirfanjalaluddin1018 lol
Well decades is a bit much, but years, yes
@@vq-gamesblitz "decades" is actually true. Just an example: the ottomans besieged Candia for 21 years
Roman hastati:
-are we going to win, general?
Apollo:
-shut up, MEATSHIELD!
I loved it
Roman hastati:
-I’m Scared General
Apollo:
-shut up and get in there
I feel like its Apollo's job to mension the batle of Thermopoly at least one time every video because he does that every time and especially when Sparta is on the batlefield and I love it!!!!!
Apollo looks like he wants to cuddle with elephants.
Snacks and Drinks at the ready
Alwayss 🤛🏻
Welcome all, to the slaughter of many snacks and drinks. The snackocalypse and drinkageddon if you will! ;)
17:57
Rome: we have you surrounded 2 armies to 1
Sparta: I don't like those odds
"They pikes aren't out..."
-Apollo
GET THOSE PIKES OUT!!!
Rome had no plan. He was lined up all nice and pretty looked like he was going to have a tiered fight cycling in and out one row at a time, then he just charged everything in at once and impaled himself on spears.
Omg I have heard that warband sound before in your videos and I was going insane wondering why warband music was playing. Now I know.
Talk about the Iceni more. That commander sure knew what he was doing. Highest KD ratio in the game and the most troops left alive. That chariot move was brilliant. Those archers could've been a much bigger problem to his allies pikes later on
"I wouldn't want to intentially kill my horse even if that means scaring elephants"
-Pixie 2021
Apollo getting excited about keeping an eye on the mini map and catching the action in time is the kind of character growth that I come here for.
For a moment there, those pikes from macedon almost made me have a aneurysm.
"Overconfidence is a slow and insidious killer"
44:30 the guy in the bottom left be like: I got stabbed but I still want to t pose on the haters
Lol dead tpose on the haters. Kill me? You ThoughT
Remind yourself that overconfidence is a slow, and insidious killer
No wait, wrong game
I see what you did there ... ;)
At the end of the Battle of Thermopylae there were 7,000 other free Greeks
Yes, it was a combined force, but when they realized that they are going to get flanked most of them fled. Only 300 spartans and 700 thebens remained. So yeah poor thebens nobody remembers them
@@bendeguzborda5902 Erodotus recounts that the Spartans forced the thebans to stay because they were suspected to cooperate with the Persians, and they did. Poor thebans? The thespians stayed and died with the Spartans though
@@lucasavelli2945 sorry my bad (altrough there are some speculations that the thebens, who fought were helping the greeks against the will of their city) I tought of the tespians, but I heard this thing long ago.
@@bendeguzborda5902 no problem; it is not very clear what were those thebans doing since the sources contradict each other. Maybe the Spartans forced them to stay, maybe they were thebans who opposed the Theban policy of cooperation with the Persians.
What's also funny is if we look at it through today's moral compass the Persians were the good guys.
They didnt have the same level of slavery as the Greeks. Thier empire covered a huge area and as such had a lot more different races and peoples and cultures. Same for religion and there was significant religious freedom which almost no other empires have ever had to the same level.
And to top it all off they achieved in Greece what their military aims were. So technically it was mission successful despite the Greek suicide mission at Thermopylae and the other battles that happened.
Love to see the consistent uploads. I've been enjoying your Total War content for over 5 years now. Keep doing you and thanks for bringing us hours of entertainment in our weeks.
Seems like the “the defenders never win” rule is no longer available
I have yet to see one of these games where the defenders don't win. Only 1 game out of the 20+ I have watched did the attackers win.
Well, Rome was on the side of the attackers, so it was pretty much a given that the defenders would win ...
@@antred11 Hehe
Been watching since 2016 love the content.
3:22 I see you too make an alarm for when it's almost harvesting season.
Snack ready for the sack
*clicks on video about how overconfidence leads to disaster*
*Sees masses of Romans*
Me: Yeah... I know where this is going...
Gotta love the subtle M&B warabnd quest complete whistle! xD
Poor Rome was like, "Be not afraid, for we are Rome! What can the Greeks do to us?!"
*5 min later, Rome:* Run Away! Run Away!
3:23
Looks Like King Harlaus Inviting You To The Feast Apollo
3:26 I was playing Mount & Blade: Warband when I heard that noise and was like, 'I didn't complete a quest. What's going on?" Lovely siege battle though.
Apollo say it with me : PRIN CHI PEH
Got my siege pants on
around 30mins i loved how there was one Praetorian behind the pikes
"Your overconfidence is your weakness."
"Your faith in your friends is yours!"
i wish that the general units emblem would have a part broken off or show damage when the general dies so you can tell without having too look for the individual himself
This is sick keep up the work apollo
Lmao "without the pikeman" 🤣🤣
Apollo,
Have a great vacation! You certainly deserve it.
Wait The Minute Apollo...I Have To Get My Snack And Drink
Awesome battle! love the videos
I think Apollo missed it but there was a moment off screen when the ranged defenders on the hill killed all the Syrian archers who got too close. Those archers could have made a huge difference either killing the defending range or pikes. Great replay Apollo!
One of elephant tactics in incendiary pig or flaming pig were recorded by the military writer Polyaenus and by Aelian. Both writers reported that Antigonus II Gonatas' siege of Megara in 266 BC was broken when the Megarians doused some pigs with combustible pitch, crude oil or resin, set them alight, and drove them towards the enemy's massed war elephants. The elephants bolted in terror from the flaming, squealing pigs, often killing great numbers of their own soldiers by trampling them to death.According to an account, Gonatas later made his mahouts keep a swine among elephants to accustom the animals to pigs and this practice was immortalized by a Roman bronze coin dating back to his time, which showed an elephant on one side and a pig on the other.
The Roman army sure did give that away.
44:30 guys over here practicing his t pose

Please someone, tell me how to beat Kush in a siege! I threw legionnaires at them. I've sent Praetorians at them. I've even tried using an army of gladiators, but I keep getting crushed by their shotel warriors.
Cause those are really armoured units. Try light germanic units like the naked warriors.
use unit with high melee defense
is they can't hit you you can't be kill
@@aguardman9267 Usually low armour units have high meele def right
yes
Man... You're commentary is amazing lmfao
2:40 they lost that specific battle though 😅 after holding the narrow pass for like three days, and their city as well as attika subsequently have been looted and devastated by persia until the persian fleet has been beaten at salamis.
Love the T posing dude at 44:28 lol
Well now..... Don't be over confident in anything because that's when you make mistakes.
that balance of power tho shifted so much
You sound on point in this video !!!! Still love the high or tired Apollo 😘
If I've learned anything from watching Apollo's video it is "Fear The Pikes."
Rome looks like a new player
Speaking about the "apollo curse".
Early Love Rome 2 keep up Apollo
Litterally no one
Apollo: " oOo chaos"
Elephants can also go on roid rages during mating season and have been known to throw cars... And crocodiles
Apollo has the highground
Hey pixelated Apollo! I wanted to add a special request I've been watching you for about 3 years now and I wanted to know if you can bring more battles of Thrones of Britannia!!! It's been alot of viking shows and just been a vibe for Vikings! If you can are you able to bring it back?!!! I appreciate your videos teaches me alot about strategy and history within these videos. DAY 1!
I never saw the use of elephants they trample their own men more than the enemy
44:28 Absolute Chad t-posing to assert dominance
Remind yourself that overconfidence is a slow and insidious killer.
gas video
love this game still
Was it me, or did it look like Rome was trying to push some troops through the pikes around the 30 minute mark? Or was there a gap I couldn't quite see that he was getting through, cus it looked like Rome was getting behind the pikes for a moment.
the horses b.o scared the elephants
2 units of spartans can just hold to the bitter end, make sure you flank
As we commonly say here: thanks, romans.
I have a problem every time I try to paly total war rome 2 multiplayer siege battles it kicks me out when I start the siege battle does anyone know how to fix it?
Hey Apollo are you going to play warhammer lll when it comes out?
Apollo I like Rome 2 siege battle
When there are enemies that are more powerful then you you make unlikely alliances
I don't care about the stuttering. At this point dude, I'm just always gonna watch your sieges.
The Roman player needs to grow some braincells lol
it's leggy be because you got a Trojan, I'll see myself out
Why does every Roman player think they're invincible
At Thermopylae, Leonidas had 300 Spartans, AND 8000 other local forces from neighbouring City States.
Who left before the last stand. Only 700 thespians remained with the Spartans
they used to cut the throat of bad horses, the dispensable ones
Apollo whats ur stream schecdudle? sorry about the spelling!
Apollo lay of the weed man comon :d
Heeeeey Macarenaaaaaa!
I hate the faction sparta cuz I just feel like holding doesn't really achieve much in the long run and they get next to no kills
Someone could help me ? When a start the campain my unit are smal and I would like to have the full unit , like 160 for Pretorian ect...
Elephants are very intelligent. They can see themselves in the mirror, and use the reflection to groom themselves. Not many animals can do that. They also have great emotional intelligence and memory.
What pc do you use? I’m looking to buy 1
Rome did themselves zero favors this entire battle lol. From running into spears, to bum rushing like 6 units at a time only to be routed. No bueno sir, no bueno
Apollo archers absolutely do lose the ammo when a unit dies.
It wouldn't surprise me that the bigger version of Athens in the daylight is more demanding on the hardware than other cities.
Are the wall arts banned on those matches?
overconfidence is a slow and insidious killer
Hey, Apollo! Last year in August, I had some Medieval 2 LAN sparring. My opponent was much more experienced, so I'm hesitant to provide the replays. Even so, I'm planning on rematches this August! I hope to send you some nice replays then! Would you like the shoddy replays in the meantime?
Ah, you Apollogize ;)
Anyone know what map that is? Trying to find it :D
i got 2nd hand embarrassment from the roman player
Obi wan would b proud
is this an unmodded game or does it have a mod like radious?
