Apollo makes a joke about the naked swordsmen almost every time they are in a siege lol

You should do a battle/siege 4v4 but where there is only 2 armies facing each other. So like one player controls just archers, the other controls just cav etc. Kinda like every player is a captain more than a general. Would be interesting as players will control smaller portions of the army and therefore give them the opportunity of better macros and different tactics.

well the arrow towers are scorpion towers in this game which is probably why the attackers were struggling so much.

@@gery8218 that's what I was picturing, yes. apollo often said to attackers to not spread out too much, stay close to each other, same goes for each factions' forces, don't spread them or split in parts. you will end up as fair game to sally out attacks, like that in this video.
the AI in this game is barely responsive, holds position where retreat makes more sense and often just plain dumb. this requires strategies that will not work against human players, and will end in misery against experienced multiplayers.

Experienced player is a bit much like Napoleon Bonaparte and Erwin Rommel, defeat in detail. If you spread out your unit too much, they are just going to crush your forces one by one with local superiority.

I agree with you that Boii made a mistake by not keeping his cavalry near his sally out. I think he should have at least pulled back his general to the city
Try the 3 x unit size mod from the workshop it explodes the battles into more massive scale though you may like it Enjoy!

Hey has anyone been having problems playing online in Rome 2? Everytime I try to join a lobby or creat a lobby my game crashes. I deleted and uninstall the game many times removed mods and all but nothing has worked. Any help would be great

I would love to see tactics used by great generals used in real war. The Mongols would attack then reateat to draw there enemy into a battleground of there making. Then wipeout there enemy.

Why would the attacking players
go with Pikes in a siege battle?
Defenders be like: you attack my settlement hey? I crush your army.
Attackers: I thought were attacking, not defending?

Just played this map in a 2v2 and the stylers couldn’t make it past the walls area we defenders won but I only had my general and 2 archers left it lasted 40 minutes best siege ever

Siege tournament?
What do you recommend for players that are new to Total War multiplayer?? Faction? Style?
You have to learn certain factions strengths and weaknesses and use that to adapt to the other players factions (example: kush is really good against factions with high armour due to there shotels. Or how greek factions are great with spears and hoplites but not always good swords)

@@brooksdemontluzin4598 no problem. All you have to do is know what you have and does it go up against the enemy if not you should switch factions. Also good communication is always key to success
rome is a pretty good faction to start with. it's neat in attacking, though is able to hold its ground as well, although there are better factions for attacking and definitely better factions for defending choke points.

Not really a comment about the video itself, but imagine if you were able to combine drained units into one unit so as to replenish their numbers a tad (it would have to be a unit that is the same as the drained unit). An example being imagine there being half of a pikemen unit is left and there’s a half of another Pikemen unit left as well. You would then be able to have them merge with each other so as to replenish their numbers a little.

I would love to see a full commit to defending the walls, while using cav sallied out to screen the enemy and keep them from fully committing to attacking the walls in return

I played Boii and when I pushed to fight the Arverni Infantry watch the bastion ballista! Even though my guys were routed, the losses on all of arverni was huge!
Yeah, as soon as I saw how many losses those Oathsworn had taken, I knew why you weren't doing intense micro elsewhere; you were just focussing on using that ballista.

Glad to know that Apollo is officially not a fan of slavery… I mean not a fan of the slave infantry… You know what, he’s probably against both.
I'm not sure where the idea came from that armor-piercing damage doesn't do well against lightly-armored units, or why it stays prevalent, because armor-piercing damage does just as much (and usually more) damage to less-armored units as armored. This is literally how the devs have described the mechanics. Yet we've got experienced players like Apollo and JoeOnit and others who still believe armor-piercing damage doesn't do well against troops without armor. Let me break it down:
You've got a unit with 10 base-damage, and 35 armor-piercing damage, making the total damage 45. If fighting an armored unit, the base damage is negated, making the total weapon damage 35 instead. If fighting a unit without armor or little armor, the full 45 damage applies.
tldr: Stop saying armor-piercing damage doesn't work against lightly-armored troops. That's literally false! 🤣

Man first of all who doesn't bring cavalry in a battle ? And second , who splits their army in a freakin siege battle ???? Like wtf bruh , you sacrificed 25% of your army to die with very few kills wich literally cost you and your poor teammates the game !!

"everyone always plays as kush" i mean yeah brother shotel warriors have 12 armor pierce and armoured shotels have 20! they are DISGUSTING! Love having some dank kush on my team.
If you know anything at all about the game though its easy to counter pick Kush they are like a better version of suebi with better cav
and armored shotel warriors lose to Thracian nobles when the don't get a charge off so it just depends on the skill level of the players they are still op but easy to beat if the person using them isn't good

@@Elsneakakaze No you just suck at the game if you lose with them, they are difficult to use but not bad. Ive beaten kush tons of times with the Odrysian kingdoms because ive played enough games with them to know how to not die in 5 minutes. 6 or 7 Years ago when people actually played land battles and not just tons of sieges, people actually knew how to use factions how they were intended and what there strengths and weakness were. Sieges dont require a whole lot of tacticts and are pretty predictable so if you play it right then you can crap on any good faction with a "crappy" faction.

I think Carthage, seleucid, and egypt have the highest pick rate in siege battles
