    Helpful info keep it up. I've noticed you on smashboards awhile back with Dr. Mario info I believe. But like I've already said, great work!

    This is why i subbed to your channel. To know exactly why to do or not to do things so i can focus on that. Should probably get b reversing down with neutral b because i don't do it at all

      @Delicous Falcon thanks, glad to hear it! Definitely work on b reversing, turn around b, and wavebouncing. Probably in that order to learn, but they’re all very important at higher levels so don’t just settle for b reversing. Samus without charge shot shenanigans is like villager without projectiles, or to quote fatality peach without float. Do a little bit of practice every day, even if it’s just during the loading lobby before online matches, and after a few days or weeks (don’t grind for hours in one day, it’s boring and ineffective) it will become muscle memory. It’s absolutely essential for standing a chance against high tier characters of equal skill level.

    Im no Samus pro but when you see that full charge shot stored up, you are telling your opponent to be cautious which is both a good and bad thing. Good in that it messes up weaker opponent who decides to play safe and you can punish with other options but bad because you are prepared. A non full charge shot is hard to see coming because we are so ingrained to see every Samus main always have a full charge so having one that is not full charge fly towards your face can be quite unexpected.
    In the end of the day, the player should use both and mix it up so the opponent wont be able to read them well but that's my two cent.

    i’m new to samus but the my favorite thing about running around with full charge is that opponents use their shild or parry constanty because they’re afraid of getting hit making them sooo easy to grab and punish

      Ultraviolet I was fighting a mii gunner online and he killed me twice by reflecting my charge shot but I adapted and charged it fully and just kept faking his out then punishing him for holding reflector out constantly thinking it was gunna work because it worked before. Any way I actually won that game

    samus discord mentioned this vid, really good tip! thanks! i usually dont fully charge, mainly cuz of lag... ill only fully charge if it happens as im recovering on stage and i charge and i decide to let it fully charge so i dont need to use my jump to cancel... or if a character is at a percent where i can kill em w a full cs and i may be able to snipe em... u brought up some other good tips im wasnt conscious of either like movement and fake outs... awesome vid dr. jay! i just subbed

    Uncharged shot is great against swordies or rush down characters.

    I love the video! Can you unpack why a Samus player wouldn't do a full charge when the opponent is in the 120%+ range? The extra knockback is really helpful for sealing off stocks, and around that percentage I'm looking for the KO, not a confirm into a less potent KO move.

    • @Dr.Jay.
      @Dr.Jay.  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @dan thanks! So I think the key isn’t so much potency as it is reliability. Ganon f smash is really powerful, but the risk behind it is so great that you’d be hard pressed to call it a “better” ko move than say lucinas f smash, which is more reliable. The higher up in skill level you go the more you’ll find that your opponent dodges the cs at the last second, which if you can react to you can catch that evasive movement with whatever you want. Having full charge is basically an all or nothing- it may kill at around 5% earlier than 90% charge, but if it misses not only will you not get the ko but you’ll probably be punished. Also charge shot as a raw ko move is specifically for hard reads or at really high percents, it’s much safer to use as a setup move rather than fishing for a ko on its own

    • @Dr.Jay.
      @Dr.Jay.  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Also the most important thing is that mid charge shot into f smash, dash attack, or back air can actually do much more damage and knockback than full charge on its own. Doing 20% with the shot and another 10-20% with a follow up is almost always better than just getting 26% with just cs. Also the mid-mostly full charge shot will bring them up to a follow up kill percent. So say theirs at 110%, you can do 20% with mostly full charge shot and now their in kill percent of a much safer move. TLDR: it’s safer and more reliable. there’s a whole art and science to it, and while there is no “right” way to play any character, if you’re playing at a high level and your follow ups are optimized there’s no reason not to do mid charge into follow up over just full chargw

    .... They always do. Esam pretty much always does.

    • @Dr.Jay.
      @Dr.Jay.  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Esam doesn’t really play samus in ultimate... watch yb or quik, like actual current samus mains. The idea of not having 100% charge is pretty new to ultimate, and wasn’t really figured out until a few weeks in to the meta, so when you look back at esam’s like month 1 ultimate samus of course he’s not going to be playing optimally.

    • @Dr.Jay.
      @Dr.Jay.  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Obviously there are some specific instances where you might see yb get full charge but they’re almost always either by accident or because he had to. Even i sometimes get full charge by accident but i always get rid of it between stocks. Also when I say full charge I’m talking about the 100% blinking full charge, not a mostly charged shot. You want to have it charged as much as possible without getting to full charge.

    • @Dr.Jay.
      @Dr.Jay.  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s extremely counterintuitive to not fully charge something called a charge shot, so it’s taken a while for a lot of people to catch on to this, but the frame data doesn’t lie.
