Usually when I do it wrong I’m pressing A too soon after shield, so when practicing i would like exaggeratedly slow down the timing. Also make sure you’re not letting go of shield before you press A otherwise the timing won’t even matter. Thanks fam o3o

0:55. I can't STAND how they changed that shit in Ultimate. In previous games, you could just hit Z. In 4, people using reflectors would always fall for it and I wouldn't have to risk accidentally shooting by miss timing the input
The reason this changed was due to the change of the buffer system from the last one pressed to a heirarchy of:
-shield
-special
-sh attack macro
-jump
-attack

I wonder if this stales your dodge invincibility frames? Could be shooting yourself in the foot in a sense if you overuse it and you lose invincibility frames on your dodges

I'm a tad late, but does this still work? I'm in training mode with 1-frame speed, I press A (and ZL, to advance frames) on frame 6, but I can't seem to pull it off. I can however do it if I'm grounded, as I shield cancel the charge and then grab cancel the shield no problem.
Yes it still works! It’s just really hard lol. Remember the air dodge starts on the frame that the trigger/shield input is first registered, not when the trigger is fully depressed or clicked if that makes sense. Also you need to be holding the shield while your pressing a, you don’t let go of the trigger. The timing is incredibly strict due to the finicky nature of trigger buttons and I still only get it about 90% of the time tbh, but yeah it still works lol

Nope it def still works it’s just very tough timing. Remember the airdodge happens as soon as you tap shield, not once the trigger is fully pressed. Also you can’t let go of shield you need to be holding that when you press A
