    100% agree with you on how Avengers Campus does the "characters as kinetic energy" thing better than anywhere else in the park. When last we went, (which was a while ago) we ate breakfast at Pym's. During breakfast, the show broke out across the way with Black Widow, Black Panther, etc. Not long after, Hulk came out and was greeting people. Walking out of the land, the Dora Milaje are doing their thing. The Spider-Man show was happening so we hung back and watched Spidey swoop in and then greet the crowd. The whole place feels "full". The only thing that is gonna fix Galaxy's Edge is their commitment to do the same thing over there.

      Full of meet and greets. With one reskinned legoland ride. And a reskinned tower of terror, if you can’t that as avengers campus. Not great altogether. Pym’s is pretty neat though for a themed eatery. The only bit of originality, although I’ve heard better things about the other two Pym restaurants globally. Also the Stuntronic spider man is cool, would be cooler as part of an E-ticket ride, but still cool. Though the way everyone stops to watch and blocks the walk ways isn’t. Still better than Galaxy’s edge. At least they use the characters that people care about.

    Let’s also not forget that this land had the first “horror” themed meet and greet with the zombie captain America, and I’m still hoping that someday they will make a maze with that theme, or maybe bring the Twilight Zone back for a concept like that…

    I went to AC for the first time last spring with A Plan for watching all of the little shows, and it was great. I randomly ran into Doctor Strange in the morning and asked him what was going on with the big polyhedron, and he told me to come back at night to see it look cooler. I loved how the Spider-Man stunt show turned into a Spider-Man meet and greet for the kids in the front row. Ant-Man and the Wasp came out to entertain people in the line for the magic show. Kang was sulking on the roof. Building a land that can easily pivot to whatever movie is newest was a much better idea than building a Wakanda or an Asgard, and having a little bite of all of the MCU's aesthetics is great.

    The problem with Avengers campus isn’t the land itself: it’s the park(s) it’s situated in. The land itself isn’t a E ticket land that anchors the park, it’s a smaller plaza type area akin to the Muppets courtyard or Liberty square, with Web warriors the equivalent of Muppetvision or Haunted mansion. It’s a A weak land on its own, but it would work great as a supporting area if the rest of the park was at a higher standard…. And Spoiler alert the rest of the park isnt (excluding cars), Forcing AC into the role of a E ticket land despite actually being way smaller.

      DCA is an objectively great supporting park...The ride lineup is great, especially when compared to the smaller ride lineups at Animal Kingdom or Epcot. The most comparable park to DCA would be Hollywood Studios, and HS has inferior theming, despite both being IP dumping grounds. For example, almost anyone would take Pixar Pier over Toy Story Land; it's more impressive visually, has way better dining (LampLight Lounge) and way more (and better) rides + a stellar nighttime show (World of Color).
      There are other fantastic lands at DCA besides Cars Land you didn't mention too! Buena Vista Street is essentially a perfect entrance, with great shopping and dining (Carthay Circle is top tier). Grizzly Peak is an awesome land, it's themed excellently to the wilderness/natural parks of northern California and has some fantastic original attractions that fit perfectly (Soarin, and GRR). Pacific Wharf was excellently themed as well, and I wish they would've kept it, but San Fransokyo looks very detailed at least.
      You're statement that the rest of DCA doesn't live up to Cars Land may be somewhat true, but that's not surprising given Cars Land is the best themed Land Disney's ever done stateside! Just the holiday decorations alone put it there haha, which reminds me, DCA in general has WAY better holiday decorations than any WDW park does, not to mention holiday overlays like Monsters After Dark!
      I think the problem is that Avengers Campus is a boring setting for a themed land...it does kind of remind me of Muppets Courtyard haha....I'm not sure how you'd put Web Slingers on HM's level though, that's just crazy lol.

    Web Slingers is an OFF-THE-SHELF CLONE of NINJAGO at LEGOLAND!
    Midway Mania was developed in house at Disney, and was ahead of it's time when it debut! HUGE difference.
    ...It's also just more fun for many guests; Web slingers feels inaccurate and random half the time.

    • @genappithy
      @genappithy ปีที่แล้ว

      The Ninjago ride was built by triotech using proprietary tech. The motion tracking tech on Web Slingers was by all accounts developed in house by Disney. I haven’t seen anything to suggest triotech work on the ride. If triotech was a vendor or contractor who had worked for Disney I’d expect an mention on their site a long with all the other projects they have listed.
      In all likelihood the tech in web slingers is an evolution of the tech developed for midway mania. The difference being instead of sensors in the blaster to tell where it’s pointing which combines with the positional data of the ride vehicle to figure out where in space the thing is pointing, Disney developed motion tracking to determine not just where our hands are, but also our arms so it knows where we are pointing.
      Maestro by Triotech just tracks the hands.

    I really don’t think the land is much good. The Spider-Man attraction is very mediocre imo, especially when compared to one of my favorite rides ever in Universal’s Spider-Man ride. The land itself just feels kinda bland too. Like nothing about it really yells to me “this is from the MCU.” Same with Galaxy’s Edge, nothing yells to me “this is Star Wars.” Besides the obvious superficial theming ofc. The Guardians ride is solid tho.
    The shows are pretty bland too, the stunt shows, the Doctor Strange show, even the Wakandians or Wakandans or whatever just coming out, spinning their spears a bit, and that’s it. Pym’s Kitchen is pretty cool tho. The conveyor belt is nice, and the theming of the place is just nice in general, and pretty novel and cool. Other than that, I think this land needs a lot more work 💀

    also ngl missing breakout is way better than what we got in paris, where they rethemed rock'n'roller coaster without even upgrading the ride vehicles. but on the flip side of that, we still have tower of terror, so you win some, you lose some, i guess.

    I think Imagineering usually does a good job with whatever they're given to work with. It makes sense that the characters are the main draw for Avengers Campus because they are the main extraordinary thing in what's otherwise supposed to be a fairly grounded world like our own. That's where I personally prefer Galaxy's Edge, which transports you to an alien planet. That's more what I'm looking for in a theme park experience. As opposed to Avengers' Campus, which is a Terran industrial park, plus a few cool details.

    • @AdamYJ

      It’s too bad none of the great Marvel locations like Asgard, Wakanda or even just New York City could be translated into the Marvel park location.

    • @dayoldbread1696
      @dayoldbread1696 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      To be fair the imagineers had way better ideas for a marvel themed land, the first plans for the land were leaked recently in a piece of concept art and it looks so much better than what we ended up getting. But two major things affected the avengers stuff in the park.
      The first was when Disney tried to force the imagineers to move to Florida (which affected the creativity of things we got and are going to get) and also the frequent budget cuts by greedy executives. So basically it seems like we were going to get something way better but the higher ups said no and budget cut everything.
      So the imagineers had to come up with something budget friendly at the consequence of it being not very good (which also was probably affected by that loss of imagineers beforehand). I just hope the multiverse ride turns out to be decent, because it’s a shame they canceled that awesome quinjet ride that would have been the lands saving grace

    Toy Story Mania lets you see the projectiles easily, it's consistently challenging by changing the dynamics every game, and it gives you different targets with different values and skills needed to hit them. Web Slingers is nearly impossible to tell what's going on, stays exactly the same every time, and doesn't introduce anything to make the experience more interesting or challenging as it goes on. (It claims it does in the queue, but then those elements are almost impossible to find in the ride.) You tell me which is the better attraction. Avengers Campus itself isn't bad, per se, but it feels very cheap and thrown together, especially compared to Pandora and Galaxy's Edge. It's not that we hate Avengers Campus, it's just that we all know Disney can do way better.

    • @genappithy
      @genappithy ปีที่แล้ว

      The ride is constantly giving you instructions and objectives in the audio as you move from room to room. The ride is chaotic so it’s hard to pay attention to, but even on my first ride through i noticed it. In that way it’s very much like midway mania and it’s “self-adjusting difficulty.” TSMM achieves this by having different targets which require different levels of skill to hit. So there’s a bunch of easy close to the vehicle targets so kids can blast away and have a good time, and for people who want more of a challenge there’s the targets that need more skill.
      Web Slingers uses a different strategy. Instead of doing it visually, it tells you what the high value targets are. And just like in TSMM, you can ignore that and just destroy the environment. But if you want more of a challenge you can listen to the audio and follow the directions. I remember in one of the rooms it was based on the color of the spider bots. And the webs do more than hit targets. You can also use them to interact with the environment inserting a level of creativity in how you destroy the spider bots.

    • @ExtraordinaryPeoples
      @ExtraordinaryPeoples ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The time you spend in each room is so short, that none of that really matters. The interactive stuff is so hard to find that you would need way more time than they give you to use it. It might as well not be there. Not to mention it's so chaotic that it's hard to tell what you're looking at or process the instructions you're given anyway. And I'm not talking about just target values; I'm also talking about game mechanics and dynamics. The types of projectiles and targets change in TSM, making a different experience every game. The darts fly differently from the rings, etc. This is not the case in WS, and it gets boring very quickly.

It should have been a Wakanda Ambassy or maybe a chunk of Asgard to keep up the 'tansported bits of the universe' theme of the Collector's fortress.

    the thing with mission breakout is that, as an attraction, it was done so well that it elevated the drop tower format from what tower of terror originally had (shoutout joe rohde). AC as a land is pretty average in looks and points of interest besides pym's, WEB slingers is ok but nothing special compared to other rides on property, in the same park, and in competing parks like universal (legoland for instance has something very similar techwise), and there's not much to do there besides spend a whole bunch of money and watch shows that are either kinda small or have awkward viewing angles. Bug's land wasn't that much better but it at least had a unique attraction in it's tough to be a bug (and doubled as being a spot with a lot of shade and not a lot of people). Had AC opened with a more interesting ride like galaxy's edge did with smuggler's run, i think the reception would be much better. But as it is, the performers have to really lift the land up by themselves.

Some of the new stuff like Buena vista street and cars land are very good, but Disney made the mistake of keeping all the other garbage stuff like the pier and the Hollywood backlot. Either way California adventure still sucks to this day and now I doubt they will ever fix it sadly.
      I understand that even if they weren’t greedy that it’s not financially feasible to make every ride an e ticket but damn the last few years they haven’t even been trying with garbage like Pixar pier and San fransokoyo, along with avengers campus/web slingers and smugglers run basically just being a less intense star tours clone.

    Hard disagree - the "best" Disney lands are layered and explorable and immersive. I won't argue the fact that it features some of the best character experiences but imagine that placed on top of a more desirable, immersive locale? And no I'll never buy the "Silicon Valley" argument, because as someone who lives and works in SV it's a sad place that no one would ever want to recreate lmao
    The "campus" theming is just the lack of creative decision making, and a logical reasoning for them to build a generic space where they can plug in whatever IP they please. Much in the same way that they're removing any theming from Downtown Disney to make all the stores easily replaceable.
    Yes, the characters are fun, but I think ultimately the lack of committing to a certain place/superhero to anchor the land around doesn't do service to either Marvel or DCA.

    And yes, I've found cocktails all through Disney, California or Florida, with only handful of exceptions, are far too sweet and weak, especially for $15-$20 each.

    While I have been to Disneyland several times since the Tower of Terror closed, I have not been to DCA. I have no interest in Marvel or the Avengers, and this video only reinforced my belief. Avengers Campus must be better in person. Because on video, it looks awful. While I didn't ride the rides, I liked A Bug's Land. It was charming and had a feeling of being in and with nature. As someone who is enthralled with The Land at Epcot, I would have thought you would prefer A Bug's Land over the dull steel and concrete that is Avengers Campus.

      Trust me you aren’t wrong it’s terrible even in person. The land itself appearance wise looks ok to me (aside from the ugly guardians ride exterior), but what sucks is how little there is to do. And mainly how bad the ride is. Guardians is actually a good ride but I don’t count it as a new ride because it’s just a re theme of a ride that was at the park before Disney even bought marvel.
      Anyways web slingers is just terrible, it’s a low budget ride that was primarily made to get people to buy the $40 cheap arm attachments for the ride that allow you to get a better score. It’s basically the Spider-Man version of midway mania without the cannons.
      They canceled the only good ride (quinjet ride) and now it’s a 50/50 chance whether its replacement, the multiverse ride, will turn out to be decent or just flat out terrible. The lands entertainment is also kinda bad. Like it’s great that it’s full of characters often but what sucks is the dr strange show is terrible. It clearly had a super low budget and dr strange does magic tricks so bad that Disney would have ended up having more convincing magic tricks for the show if they hired a birthday party magician off of Craigslist.
      The spider man show is cool only because of the stunt animatronic but other than that it lasts like 2 minutes. The whole campus and rides could have been way better had Disney not cheaped out.

    In my opinion (nobody has to agree) avengers campus, with the exception of Mission: Breakout is cheap and underdeveloped. I have only been to the one in France. The WEB ride feels like I am playing a game on Wii sports. It feels like I am watching a screen which is contrary to the principle of immersion that it Disney imaginers set out for. Adding more effects like water heat having the vehicle shake tilt shake and Move would add to the immersion in a very simple way. And one simple thing, the land desperately needs: a villain in a show and ride please

  • @Mentocthemindtaker

    Randomly stumbled across your video. I watched it out of curiosity and it seems that you're addressing points made by people who are regular visitors to Disney theme parks; enough that they can judge and develop opinions about different areas, rides and attractions.
    Then I saw that there is a _whole ecosystem_ of similar channels and groups.
    After looking into the cost of visiting any Disney theme park anywhere for even a day I don't understand how any of this is possible. How can there be _so many people_ who can not only afford to visit these places regularly, but are able to do so to the point where they can have arguments about the differences between areas and rides?!
    This just seems crazy to me. The amount people must be spending just seems insane, _especially_ when you consider how much Disney must be making off it all.
    How can anyone afford to do trips regularly? To eat there, regularly? To stay there and visit for multiple days? Not just the financial cost, but the time investment?
    🤷‍♂

      Most people who visit Disneyland frequently have season passes. That's roughly $1,600- that's a lot of money, but it's feasible. A lot of people either live nearby, or they just get really cheap hotels. In Anaheim if you're staying off property you can totally get a hotel that's only about $200 per night, or you can just go for the day and not stay overnight. This is a LOT of money, don't get me wrong, but a casual trip is a lot cheaper than a week long once in a lifetime trip And it's not the majority, but not an insignificant number of people with these strong opinions are actually workers/cast members, a lot of workers are really passionate about the company and they get free tickets in addition to time spent there working. Idk what the Disneyworld system is like exactly, but I imagine it's very similiar.

    the main problem with avenger's campus is the viewing area for the Spiderman show. It is way to small and narrow and you have to stand in the walkway 10 feet from the building and look straight up. Then they cancelled the show because the robot wasn't working. Major disappointment.

    But Toy Story mania doesn’t require you to pay extra amounts of money for a toy that merely allows you to pay to win, it’s an arcade shooter with micro transactions, Toy Story mania isn’t the best honestly but when you have a ride from the late 90s which still holds up, doesn’t require extra pay, has classic iconic villains battling Spider-Man in the comic book and animated series style, all you do in web slingers is blast spider robots in Poorly rendered graphics. It’s fine if you like it it don’t matter but referring to critics as “haters” is kinda poor, also the fights look really mid when you compare them to Indiana jones stunt spectacular, also it’s a bad sign when your e ticket attraction isn’t open for a land that has been open for a year or two, I mean how many times does rise of the resistance break down again? I’ve lost count, mission breakout is absolutely amazing though an excellent ride in my opinion. But web slingers just feels like a scam, pay to win is lame anywhere

    I will not stand for this sacrilege of Web Slingers being better than Mania. Mania has replayability with secrets in almost every scene. And if your still concerned about the whole physical shooter thing…. I dunno what to tell ya, why did you come to an amusement park? Just wash your hands afterwards or something a little more water won’t kill ya. Regardless Mania is far superior to Web Slingers, change my mind.

    • @dayoldbread1696
      @dayoldbread1696 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry for the huge wall of text*
      I agree, also the original plans for the spider man ride involved some kind of suspended swinging ride vehicle. There’s even pictures of the ride model floating around on google images. And (purely speculation) from what I can tell the original plans for the land involved it using up the larger Hollywood backlot area instead of shoehorning it into the way smaller bugs land. Plus the first plans for the land (the non budget cut version) were seen in a leaked piece of concept art recently. It looked way better than what we ended up getting.
      Plus it’s pretty easy to see that we got the budget cut version of the land. Web slingers is terrible, not to mention Disney outsourced the making of it to a company who makes cheap dark rides. The same company that made the ninjago ride at lego land. I personally believe they just made that ride mainly to get people to buy the $40 cheap plastic arm attachments in order to get a better score on the ride.
      Lastly, the best ride hands down was going to be the quinjet ride. The concept art was shown officially but only for a day at the marvel hotel at Disneyland Paris. And basically the ride looks amazing. It involved a brand new ride system that had you sitting in a motion simulator similar to star tours. But then your ride seats “ejected” out of the motion simulator. It wasn’t mentioned or shown how this would be pulled off, but im guessing the seats would be lifted out of the motion simulator considering each seat was attached to a robot arm from above. You would then be able to control your flight using a joystick on the armrest (shown in the concept art). It wasn’t clear if you’d be flying through physical sets or if you were “flying” in a domed screen. But either way it looked very cool. The ride was so big that they were going to build a huge 2 story building behind the campuses hq building (shown in concept art).
      The ride was going to be expensive and Disney themselves were even calling it an e ticket. Covid delayed everything and also the loss of a lot of imagineers after Disney tried to force them to move to Florida is what affected this ride a bit, not to mention the cheaping out Disney has been doing a lot lately.
      Anyways chapek promised it wasn’t cancelled but in surprisingly it was shortly after. I feel like it was only cancelled because Disney didn’t wanna pay all that money for it and instead opted for something way cheaper. The quinjet rides replacement, the multiverse ride, has about a 50 50 chance on whether it’ll be good or if it’ll be cheap and suck. All we know is that it’s using the same ride vehicle as the new Peter Pan ride being built at Shanghai Disneyland is using. And that it’ll involve some physical sets. So far it just looks like an avengers version of runway railway and transformers at universal.

      No offense to anyone but exactly. I find it strange how so many people will rabidly defend anything Disney does. I never go after anyone for liking avengers campus or Pixar pier, yet when I comment my opinion about it on the reddit community, TH-cam, or facebook, a ton of people get super angry and come after me as if i had burned down the park or something.
      Keep in mind I never even say anything rude either yet simply saying that web slingers is cheap and is boring is enough to enrage them. It’s like a cult or something I swear, and I never see it as much with anything else compared to when it involves Disney.
      Anyways web slingers sucks, it’s just a spider man version of midway mania without the cannons. And it was primarily made to get people to buy the cheap crappy $40 arm attachments in order to get a better score on the ride. The land was originally going to be good but was budget cut to hell by the execs.
      They know no matter how bad or cheap a ride or land turns out to be, that people will still come anyways. So that’s why we get garbage like Pixar pier and San fransokoyo.

    Mission Breakout is a great ride, but I DETEST THE TOWER'S FACADE- large, ugly, and offputting. 🤮Every land has a "weenie" that invites you in and sets the ambiance. Replacing the nostalgic, artistic, pleasant view of Tower of Terror with the Collector's junky industrial tower is a blotted scar on face of DCA.
