    My freshman year of college the local donut shop had “community coffee” branded coffee. I never paid for a coffee, because I thought “oh community coffee.. how nice that they offer free coffee to the community” I always got dirty looks when I would grab a cup and pour myself a coffee. I only realized when I went to the donut shop with a friend that it wasn’t free. I probably stole 100+ cups of coffee.

    I thought visualizing was just concentrating on details of what something looks like. I also thought phrases like "picture in your mind" and "mental image" were figures of speech. I was in my late 30's when I learned about aphantasia: the inability to form mental images. Turns out "mental images" are _literally_ pictures that most people can just create in their mind on demand and *that* was what people meant when they said to "visualize" something. I'm just completely unable to do it.

    • @megatronacepticon
      @megatronacepticon 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Same here, although I've read that some people with aphantasia can't see dreams either, at least I can do that.

    • @omargoodman2999
      @omargoodman2999 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@megatronacepticon Yeah, same here. I'm able to "see" in dreams, and they _always_ take on a "real perspective". I've heard people describe totally abstract dreams, like dreaming of themselves as something else (eg. a dog, a rock, a chicken cutlet, etc.), or dreaming of just some abstract image and nothing else (eg. Some celebrity in place of a family member's face). But for me, Dreams are always in a "setting"; I'm in a _place_ watching from either a first-person view, or a strange hybrid first/third person view where it's basically first-person, but I *also* see myself either over the shoulder or top-down. And the Dream is happening all around me, no different than being awake and being able to look around. Sometimes, I can even _feel_ in a dream. I could pinch myself, and actually feel the pinch, for example; I've tried using that as a test to check if I'm dreaming to trigger a lucid dream, but *in* the dream I reasoned that _if_ I could feel the pinch, I _must not be dreaming._ So I "Checked" myself the wrong way, tricking myself into thinking I was actually _awake_ when I was Dreaming, so I didn't want to do anything with adverse consequences because I believed, in the Dream, that they'd _actually stick!_
      The *only* exceptions, I can count on one hand. *Very* occasionally, I get a dream that straddles either falling asleep or waking up. Your brain can start revving up the dream engine before you totally lose consciousness; you can also "coast" on a dream, partially waking up before the dreaming part of your brain fully shuts off. And in *those,* I've "seen" things, but somehow projected in my brain and "floating" in an empty space that's _very_ different from typical dreams. It was kind of like looking at a Magic Eye Picture (Stereogram), where it looks like visual static, but if you position your eyes _just right,_ a 3D image seems to "pop out" of the page at you. It was like that, but the image "popped out" of the black void behind my closed eyes and, somehow, was 3D projected right into the middle of my _head!_ Or, at least, that's what it felt like.

    A friend of mine had a freezer for about 30 years and thought the auto-defrost feature didn’t work. She was manually defrosting it with a hair dryer. It turns out that she thought you should turn off the freezer before defrosting it. (I can see the logic. Make it stop cooling first.) But the switch that she thought of as turning off the freezer actually shut off power to it. And without power, the auto-defrost button doesn’t do anything.

    Credit card tips are automatically reported to the store, but most stores don't actually require you to report your cash tips. The reason is because every tip that you record gets taxed, usually at a higher rate than income tax. For example my tips are taxed at 15%.
    These taxes come out of your paycheck. Most managers understand this and don't require you to report cash tips to avoid the extra taxing on your already small income.
    So drivers will typically prefer cash over credit card tips because they can hide them from the taxman.

My Geography teacher had a student who had acromatopsia, or total colour blindness and he didn’t even know he was colour blind until he was playing cricket and the ball landed in front of him and he couldn’t see it. Her parents couldn't decide what to name her, so they named her the name her father picked but called her the name her mom picked.     At the start of the pandemic I bought some 'Babybel' cheese because I've heard many good things from friends. I had never seen someone eat them so i just assumed it was like candy. I would remove the plastic wrapping but not the case and would eat them with the red shell. They only come with 6, ate them all(to not waste) and i ended up not enjoying the experience, so anytime a friend would offer me some I would politely decline. A few weeks later, I see a coworker eating a few for lunch and asked him why he was throwing away the red part of the cheese. That was when i learned that the red part isn't edible. ;-;

      Maybe because we see commercials where they are being peeled all the time, that not too many people make that mistake?
      Of course if you are used to 'natural' cheese / not factory blocks or pre-sliced/ you know about cheese-crusts you never eat.
      But I can imagine how you would miss that.
      I hope you will give them another try, they are pretty tasty for 'fake' cheese. (I say fake because they are a mixture, not 100% cheese.) Excellent snacks.

    When I moved into my apartment, I didn't know for several years that the range top could be lifted up to clean under it. One day, I kept seeing smoke coming from the drip pans, no matter how much I cleaned. It was only then I discovered there was a whole nonstick surface underneath, and when I put a knife between the range top and the counter, lo and behold, up it comes to reveal a surface covered in burned-on food. I found the source of the smoke, all right.

    24:15 Neighbor in a mobile home (divorced man) had never heard of cleaning a lint trap much less under the drum of the dryer. We got the side of our house toasted when his place burned to the ground due to this oversight. Clean the lint off of the trap every load, out from the dryer hose at least twice a year, and from around the drum yearly. Dryer lint is highly flammable, as that neighbor discovered. Lucky we had insurance for the damage we sustained; lucky for the neighbor that he had JUST left the house 5 minutes prior to go to the store. Place was engulfed in flames in 30 seconds.

      Actually: mouthwash hardly does anything (except making the mucous membranes hurt), so you did not do anything wrong.
      Every dentist I have spoken to this century told me mouthwash is a bad thing and should be avoided.
      Alcohol disturbs the normal maintenance of the mouth.

    I always hated apples. It felt rough in my mouth and down my throat. I also hated apple juice. I liked the taste of it, but hated how it left my throat dry and itchy. The whole time, I just assumed it was the normal texture of apples, and it baffled me how people liked eating this fruit.
    I only realised that I was mildly allergic to it a few months ago, when I experienced the same thing with kiwis. Kiwis made my tongue so itchy, and I remembered that it was a symptom of food allergy. I looked it up, and... yep, that's when I finally found out. LMAO
    For some reason, though... latex, avocado, bananas, and carrots are fine. It's really just those two fruits...

    If your dryer is intelligent do not take it apart, you will just end the warranty period and find there's no lint in there. This is for standard drum dryers only. Which everyone use to have but now most dryers don't need that clean out.
    Your washers filter on the other hand ... Clean that. Every three months.

    Just today I realized something obvious. Back home there were two high schools (one all girls and the other all boys) run by the Sisters of Saint Joseph. The schools were, in a lot of ways, one unit (ie they always went to coed sporting events together.) I only just now realized the reason the boys' school's colors were orange and black was because they were the opposite of blue and white, the all girl's school's colors.

      But mysteriously, I have no clue who taught me. I woke up one morning with a new method in mind and I used that and when they asked I thought my dad had taught me but he claimed he'd never seen that technique used to tie a shoe before
      ...now it's been so long since I tied a shoe (mostly been wearing boots) that I bet my dumbass has forgot again

    Is kinda gross but its natural so deal with it. But tampons. Am female. And no one taught me how to apply them just that it exists. So youre supposed to push the cotton part from the plastic in you not stick the whole thing in... And guess what I discovered this a couple weeks ago there was an ad with Amy shumer I think... and I saw it and that prompted me to finally look it up and watch a TH-cam video
    . So I got my 1st period when I was 11... and it took me to being 21 to finally know how to properly use a tampon.
    We really need to educate young period having folks. It's not that gross if you take care of it. stop the stigma and just help people properly.

      I also would leave the plastic in, it hurt a lot so I stopped using tampons for a long time. I dont know how I finally figured it out, but I dont have to worry anymore because I use a disc instead and it’s much nicer. 100% recommend if you find yourself raw or hurting from tampons.

    So uh, I'm 33 and a few weeks ago I learned that you're not supposed to rinse your mouth after brushing because you need to give time for the fluoride to work... I honestly thought it worked like hand soap. Now this might have been nbd in a place with fluoridated water, but the city I've lived my whole life doesn't floridate their water (I learned this the same hour btw, after living here since I was still an infant. I have terrible teeth, I've had 3 back teeth pulled, several veneers on the front from the enamel wearing away on my front teeth, at least 3 root canals, and they're all a light beige color due to having pretty much no enamel, and I had blamed getting a terrible genetic hand teeth-wise because I've brushed at least once a day my entire life (and flossed!), guess I just figured out why a few years after I stopped taking my nightly flouride "tooth pill" supplement as a kid I went from having zero cavities to needing 3 fillings done at once and it just got worse from there. At least my lips are probably my best feature so I have been able to pull off a nice looking closed lip smile.

    • @spaceyrat

      This happened to me too. I only learned a few months ago that to wasn't supposed to rinse.

    • @muurrarium9460
      @muurrarium9460 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry, what?
      That is why you have to make sure the brushing your teeth-session lasts 2 minutes or longer, so the fluoride from the toothpaste has time to "sink in".
      Of course you rinse after you have finished!
      Swallowing toothpaste is not good for you!
      You are not supposed to brush your teeth straight after eating/drinking something acidic (oranges/ juice/ most sparkling drinks) because the teeth need to recuperate from that (with your saliva, which is a base). If you brush immediately after eating/snacking/drinking soda...you ruin your enamel-coating.
      (Use non-sugar chewing-gum if you must...extra saliva and working it around your mouth will help.)
