Two of thier most popular songs Entombed and Rosemary are off of this album. Tempest and Gauze are highly regarded too. Swerve City is a statement opener too with that simple infectious riff. A personal favourite of mine is Goon Squad. It's a great album imo.
When I first heard Goon Squad, j got chills knowing it was basically a “we ain’t done yet, we’re gonna keep making some killer music” it goes so hard, “you know it is with ease, no sweat, I’m breaking in with all my friends, so are you in?”
this album is so unique, unexpected, euphoric yet heavy, just so amazing and beautiful- deftones makes me feel things no other music does and i love seeing other people enjoy it since i dont know anyone irl who does- it sucks not having people who like the same stuff as you
I think I pretty much agreed with all your commentary! Every song was solid and felt unique and I don’t think I’d skip any as well. My feelings of the Deftones was that I liked their early stuff, the “shove it” stuff and then I think I listened to later stuff and it felt too mellow for me, at least back when I listened to it long ago. I was pleasantly surprised how heavy this was and rocked and how every song had different elements and interesting things going on! Makes me want to listen to the other albums I might have missed or maybe my perspective has changed since the prolly 10 years since I last really gave them a listen. Also, it was fun listening to this, it just felt like we were both listening to it in a car and chatting about it, ha. We should do a reaction video of us in a car listening to an album for the first time, hah. I think I did like “Guaze” a lil more than you, might be one of my favs actually? have to give it all another listen! good stuff, hope you do more reaction videos!
Hey thanks Chua!! I appreciate the in-depth comment 🎶 Yeah I think that even their most mellow music still has interesting stuff happening and a good mix of heavy and light. And sometimes it’s just a nice vibe to have playing even if it isn’t front and center of your attention.
And I like “Gauze” a lot too! I’ve heard the album a couple more times since this initial reaction, and there isn’t a track on it that I dislike at all!
you are correct... this is the only album after the first 3 (which are great) that is also great and not just muddy/melodic, failed attempt to either recapture what was or create something new that is equally good -trash... but 4 good albums is an incredible achievement for any artist.... it's just sad they have like 4 more that really don't need to exist AT ALL
@@notimportant3686 eh, saturday night wrist has some amazing tracks imo (beware, cherry waves, hole in the earth, mein etc.). While i do agree that self-titled and diamond eyes might not be as solid, diamond eyes has some great ones too (beauty school, diamond eyes, risk, prince etc.)
Love the reaction. This is how it should be done! And the audio is great, so we’ll done. When this came out, Chino said in an interview his favorite album that came out that year was Lonerism by Tame Impala. Worth doing the whole album just like this!
I’ve been a fan of Deftones since the late 90s, love White Pony, Around the Fur, etc etc, but this record really stood out for me from their catalog. Don’t know if it was where I was mentally, but it became my favourite album.
this is the better tempest of the 2 by the way... tool's felt unnecessary, there was no reason for it to be that long, it didn't continue providing enough new ideas to justify the length... i've heard it twice and it just felt like any future attempts would be too daunting for the time investment vs the reward of what i get out of listening to it
Thanks! I made a recording studio nook in my bedroom with echo-reducing audio blankets, and then I remove all background noise in Logic Pro and add compression to level everything out 👍🏻
this is their best album since the first 2... yes, better than white pony....which is their fourth best and the last of their GOOD albums.... love deftones, but they really "korned" it along the way except for this one gem
Bro leathers is the best tbh and so underrated
Leathers is another level
4:52 this is when the video starts
Very underrated and unappreciated album by Deftones. Classic in my book. Good reaction
It’s very appreciated actually lol
yeah at this point it’s a fan favourite, accurately appreciated
This album had a lot to live up to coming post diamond eyes and it didn’t disappoint at all.

Same here!! Exactly the same with "Headless".
“Deftones aren’t heavy metal, they’re heavy mellow “
Beautifully said
Oh thanks, I forgot I said that haha

Leathers, Entombed, Rosemary, what happened to you?
....
you are 2 for 4... in baseball you would have been the best hitter of all time
Gauze best 🤟🏿
Love the comments about "heaviness". Ive always felt the same way. Heavy is not about speed, or anything technical. Its about the feel.

Thanks! Unfortunately/ fortunately, I already know and love all of their other albums. BUT, I haven’t heard Chino’s “Team Sleep” side project…
@@ericgoodwinart oh def check out the Original Team Sleep 2005 Selftitle Album then! I’d love to see your reaction. ♥️
