I love TKOL. After Radiohead finished In Rainbows, they said it almost broke up the band and they would never record an album in that manner again. I think that’s good context to TKOL, and also why I think TKOL songs are almost all better live. The record was never intended to be a record. They were messing around in Nigel’s (Godrich) studio trying to find inspiration. And pow, a full length record. So when they went on tour, they refined the songs and turned them on their heads. The basement session is a good example of this. There are probably other example videos. When I saw them live on TKOL tour, little by little went so hard. It was same energy level as Jigsaw

"Kid A" threw me off, I went into a Blues music multi-year dive - but then I saw that show, I was so mesmerized, taken aback at how great the songs were, first listen, and the show brings you a level of connection with the band better than any other way. I'd suggest watching that as the next step into where to go with this journey. Funny you should say beach record - after the show blew my mind, bought the CD for a road trip and week in Key West and just kept playing it and playing it. @@ericgoodwinart There are no copyright issues with the basement session for In Rainbows so no editing although that is not true for the other one (TKOL).
I don't want to spoil anything but their "a moon shaped pool" is definitely one if not the most gloomy plus conceptional album by them. I really like the way you describe your thoughts and impressions, they are so out of the box yet so fitting. keep it up man :)
In Rainbows always felt like an imagery of a sunset view in the nature to me. Just like being in the woods, with birds shirping, rivers flowing by and mountains surrounding. But the beach feeling could resonate too. And yeah, the coffee shop feeling is a welcome one. After all, it's melancholic bliss
Just a wonderful album, huge shout outs for recognizing how beautiful House of Cards is, a lot of people dismiss it as its less "complex" than others in the album, but I love how ethereal it gets with the atmosphere. Thank you, it's great to hear your commentary and thoughts in real time, I can't wait to see what you react to next!
I think that die-hard fans of a band will always find some faults along the way, and I can be that way too, but I’ve been happy to just focus on what I like about what I’m hearing on a first listen and the first few listens. It’s way easier to get jaded, and I try to avoid that with things I love like music as best I can!
I will never understand the the flack that House of Cards gets. I’ve loved it since I first heard it. It’s the most ambient track on the album which is a nice break between the colourful Reckoner and upbeat Jigsaw Falling Into Place.
From the basement whilst high was what made me fall in love with Radiohead PLEASE do a reaction similar to this it really is something truly mesmerising
49:20 funny you say that, heres what thom yorke had to say about it: "Anyway, the funny thing was that to be honest the guitar on it was really influenced by... I went to see the Chili Peppers a few times and I really like the way John Frusciante plays. And uh... it was sort of a homage to that, in my sort of clunky ‘can't-really-pick' kind of way." specifically talking about frusciante's two note chord style seen in scar tissue and a lot of his solo work. this was a great reaction, excited to see more. and would love to see a like clockwork reaction, that album is incredible.
I love that you cut rhythmically .. None of the reactors does this. As a drummer it sooths my ears - especially when you listen to my favourite band. Thanks!
I cannot stress this enough, but when you get to King of Limbs you HAVE to do the In the Basement session too! Hearing that album live and seeing the process of how they made it is next level.
I would do In Rainbows Disc 2 first, then The Basement session because they do songs from the second disc. Then I would recommend listening to the King of Limbs, followed by the Basement session for that one.
@@RafNorth ahhh thank you for letting me know that they do music from disc 2 in the basement session! Not sure if I had heard that yet 👍🏻 And disc 2 is definitely worth doing a reaction to?
@@ericgoodwinartYou don’t necessarily HAVE to react to Disc 2. It’s more of a compilation of songs that didn’t make it on the album more than a cohesive listen like the finished product. But there are some great songs there and us Radiohead fans will always eat up anyone reacting to any of their material. So is it mandatory? Nah, but if you want to put in the extra effort to do it I would certainly watch!
Radiohead have released several individually unique masterpieces. This is one of them. And they made it available for free to download and gave people the option to pay what they wanted or not.
We'd heard a lot songs live before it came out. There was a lot of anticipation. As a huge fan of so much of what they had done before, this one really moved me. I will never forget listening to it in the middle of the night when it dropped and then over and over and over that night and for months after. Just such an amazing warm vibe. Great job. Fun watch. Id do from the basement next, then king of limbs, king of limbs from the basement, a moon shaped pool
Probably my favorite album of all time. Every track just fills the room in such a distinct way. Nude also one of the most beautiful songs ever, and Jigsaw probably my favorite song ever. too many memories to this album
Their best album, IMHO. It flows perfectly, the songwriting is exquisite and the production is top-notch. You should move on to The King Of Limbs. That will be an interesting reaction, lol.
You have that rare talent of expressing what everyone else feels but cannot vocalize. This was great, thanks, brother! I'm going to check out all your other Radiohead reactions for sure. Much love from Portugal.
Brilliant reaction! Loving your channel, especially the text comments as you go. Some of those really crack me up P.s like clockwork by queens of the stone age is definitely worth checking out. Also random one, but another brutish band came to mind. Everything everything, electronic pop with some big radiohead sensibilities. Plus the lead singer is very different. Newest album is super catchy but emotioally interesting
Oh cool, thanks so much! Each edit and pass through to add stuff took at least an hour and a half, so I’m glad that the added text commentary added something worthwhile🌞👍🏻
@ericgoodwinart Yeah it adds a lot especially in moments you'd prefer not to talk over the music, or you're analysing something you said and changing it up slightly. Very nice touch! Correct 'Everything Everything' there very diverse in their sound really, been compared to radiohead on some of their more recent cuts. Raw Data Feel 2022 and Get to Heaven 2015 are probably the best standalone albums.
Hey thanks for noticing and acknowledging that! Otherwise chopped up songs lose some momentum with all the misaligned beats that would happen without intentionally editing them together on beat as best I could 👍🏻 Took way longer but worth it; otherwise the listener has to find the beat again after every splice!
I love it too! I think many people don't like it because they don't know the meaning behind it and it is musically very simple. Beautiful track though! It always gives me goosebumps when I listen to it!
@@en16ma_music Isn’t it about hooking up at a key party? Personally I don’t like it because it’s the only song they do that just seems surface level and shallow like every pop song: “let’s not think about our lives and just f*ck.” I could be wrong, but that’s my thinking.
@@ROArecords2 for me it's about a man in a doomed relationship falling in love with someone also who is also in a doomed relationship (hence 'forgetting' the fragile 'house of cards'), struggling to come to terms with it and being in denial. i don't think the key party line is necessarily just about wanting to fuck someone, i think it's just a method the doomed lovers can use to be intimate without the consequences
@@Theo-yo8ph I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and go with your interpretation because the idea that he would write a cheesy song about hooking up doesn't fit what I know about him as a songwriter.
I spend my time these days watching reactions to Radiohead albums. A mixture of jealousy that you are getting to hear them for the first time and anticipation of what your reaction will be to what I know is coming. Counting the seconds to your 'Oooo' or 'Wow' reactions 😂 didn't disappoint! This album is the Radiohead Summer album, as light and colourful as they get. Is it their best? Probably, maybe, depends!
I’ve done the same with TOOL songs and albums and noticed that there aren’t THAT many reaction videos to Radiohead songs and albums. Glad you enjoyed it!
I'll put my vote in for in rainbows from the basement sessions for a next reaction.. My top favorite RH albums vascillate between in rainbows and kid A.. One of the times I saw them live on this tour, was with lawn seats but it was still awesome..got to meet up with some online fellow rh fans too. Though its not my favorite track off the album, jigsaw falling into place was definitely a stand out track played live.. Looking forward to more reactions..
Please do not forget the huge amount of fantastic b-sides the band has no other band I have ever heard has so many great non-album tracks, more than many popular bands have a-sides.
Nice reaction my guy. You seem to pick up a lot of stuff from a first listen! I've listened to this album a lot and you still touched upon a few things that I hadn't noticed or thought about. I look forward to more of your stuff!
Videotape actually changed a lot when it was in the process of being made, in 2006 radiohead went live in bonaroo and videotape was sung but in a much different tone. I assume it was changed because it didn’t fit being the last song of the album but I like both the live and studio versions. I’d recommend giving it a listen if you have the time, I think you’d like it
this album teleports me to me as a teenage girl listening to it for the first time. And it still sounds so fresh❤ i've had a lot of 'my favourite tracks of the album', but that changes over the years so much😂 i've seen Radiohead live on the 'In Rainbows' tour - i was in the front row, but I felt a little out of breath there, so I went to lay on the grass and listened to the rest of the performance on the grass and looking at the stars. best experience🌈
17:37 I'd love to see an Era Vulgaris or Like Clockwork reaction!! You'll notice a boat load of inspo from the sounds off this record / others like it!
Re: QOTSA, if you haven't heard their album "Like Clockwork," you'll most likely enjoy it, it's kinda undeniable. I haven't checked out their latest (it's only just come out) but I'm looking forward to being able to give it the time it deserves. I personally don't think that they have much in common with Radiohead stylistically, but both groups feature incredible musicianship and songwriting, and it's been fun watching them both evolve over the years.
That’s the one I would start with, as I know it’s the first one I haven’t listened to (or any afterwards). I like any music that has a unique sound, and QOTSA definitely has that! I’ve listened to “Songs for the Deaf” and “Era Vulgaris” many times each
I liked it! I agree it doesn’t seem as experimental as hail to the thief but it’s all pretty solid stuff. I think I might like hail a bit better? it might have songs that I liked liked more but this one might be overall more consistent solid. also, would you consider updating your profile picture? I like your new stuff!
I also really get into Queens of the Stone Age discography while I was listening to all the Radiohead discography :D That Bodysnatchers fuzz and multi-layered guitars are very qotsa but you also need to add creepiness which Radiohead has in OK Computer.
In Rainbows - from the glorious middle of Reckoner. "Because we separate like ripples on a black shore... In rainbows, in rainbows, in rainbows" So ethereal rhat its very hard to hear the words but its one of the most beautiful moments on a flawless album...
Nude is interesting in that Radiohead recorded it for OK Computer but weren't satisifed with it yet. It was a fan favorite B-side/live song for over a decade before it got put on In Rainbows with Colin's amazing bassline. Also you've mentioned Neil Young a few times in your Radiohead reviews and I don't think you'll be surprised to know that Tom Yorke is a big fan. Radiohead has covered one or two Young songs live.
Faust is a character from a play in which the motif of the angel and devil on the shoulder originated from. The light and dark forces of the world pulling Faust in different directions, personified in angels and devils.
What you said around 1:04:28 - 1:04:58 is very true and gave me the methaphorical idea that each one of these songs represents a distinct color of the collective rainbow that is the album. Might be a bit far-fetched, and of course not unique to this album, but I like the thematic fit here 😂
If you are into the dance-y bits of Radiohead, I think you may like King of Limbs. Its actually one of my favorite Radiohead albums. there is a lot of dance-y bits to it and then the back half of it is very atmospheric. I think you stated that you like atmospheric and dance-y bits. Separator blends those elements to me.
I found this theory on Genius which I thought was actually genius: It’s worth mentioning that as soon as Yorke sings the first "on videotape", the drums immediately start going "out of control". The sound produced is similar to that of a tape reel doing likewise. The words repeat in rhythm with the drums because the tape is stuck on a loop.
@@ericgoodwinart I love these reaction videos and if you haven’t already I think oracular spectacular by mgmt is definitely an album worth checking out
Definitely recommend some QOTSA!!! Just pick up wherever you left off. Their newer albums are great, especially their most recent they just dropped. Dark, groovy, sexy, creative robot-rock.
Faust is an old German legend that has been adapted lots of times over the centuries by different writers. Faust sells his soul to the devil in return for knowledge and pleasures but in the end the devil will return to claim Faust's soul. It's the first time the old 'meeting the devil at a crossroads' story appears.
what you mentioned on "off-beat" on videotape is due to the song having hidden syncopation all over it. they usually have to start several times at live concert because people clap on the wrong beat and each instrument starts in a different time, so it messes everything if they don't catch from the beggining.
I listen to Radiohead as a backdrop to my daydreaming, indeed preferably outside, with the risk of enacting what the music makes me feel and scare one or another bystander
Also videotape was a very upbeat song originally, they stripped it back massively. Was anthemic previously. Bonarro version is the best live version to hear it
So, it seems like most people would be happy to see “In Rainbows: From the Basement” next as a reaction! Awesome, thank you for the recommendations 🌞

I don't want to spoil anything but their "a moon shaped pool" is definitely one if not the most gloomy plus conceptional album by them. I really like the way you describe your thoughts and impressions, they are so out of the box yet so fitting. keep it up man :)
Well that is definitely a spoiler, but that sounds cool! But the rest of your message is nice, so I appreciate that!
Thank you for the beautiful insight at 22:20
The timing of an unintentional burp after saying “fresh” was too perfect to cut out haha
Love how your shirt matches the artistic splashy vibe of the album cover. Great choice ❤
@@mr.noride7226 Fully agree, it's such a beautiful track, the ambience is amazing!!
I love watching radiohead album reactions, its like experiencing listening to the album for the first time all over again :)
That’s what I hoped for! Glad you thought so 🌞👍🏻
Big fan of your reaction style man keep it up, looking forward to diving into your catalogue and finding music through that!
Thank you!! I appreciate that 🌞🌞
My favorite RH album. I am going to paint the front of the album cover on the back of a jean jacket. I could never get tired of In Rainbows.
23:06 Yes, the intro of nude is the outro played backwards (except for the drums)
Oh cool, I’ll listen for that!
I love that you cut rhythmically .. None of the reactors does this. As a drummer it sooths my ears - especially when you listen to my favourite band. Thanks!
Thanks! That took a lot of extra effort, glad you appreciated it 🌞🎶
What was a very insightful video turned smutty when it came to review the song 'Reckoner', with some decidedly insalubrious comments. I like it!
Haha what a great new word to add to my lexicon- insalubrious! I am glad you thought so!
I cannot stress this enough, but when you get to King of Limbs you HAVE to do the In the Basement session too! Hearing that album live and seeing the process of how they made it is next level.
And should I do the In Rainbows live from the basement before moving on to King?
@@RafNorth And In Rainbows From the Basement has some songs from Hail to the Thief among others...
Think this is my favorite album of all time. I loved Bends, Ok Computer and Kid A.... but this just hit every spot for me.
amazing reaction!! u seem like a super cool dude 🎸
Great job, thank you. Its probably my favorite Radiohead album.
Thanks! Yeah, this could end up there for me as well- but I’m excited to hear the next 2 albums as well!
You have that rare talent of expressing what everyone else feels but cannot vocalize. This was great, thanks, brother! I'm going to check out all your other Radiohead reactions for sure. Much love from Portugal.
Dude. You’re awesome. I could listen to you talk about anything
Brilliant reaction! Loving your channel, especially the text comments as you go. Some of those really crack me up
P.s like clockwork by queens of the stone age is definitely worth checking out.
Like Clockwork, check👍🏻
The other band is called “Everything Everything”?
@ericgoodwinart Yeah it adds a lot especially in moments you'd prefer not to talk over the music, or you're analysing something you said and changing it up slightly. Very nice touch!
Correct 'Everything Everything' there very diverse in their sound really, been compared to radiohead on some of their more recent cuts. Raw Data Feel 2022 and Get to Heaven 2015 are probably the best standalone albums.
@@CaveWang great, thank you!
can i just say, perfect cuts to the songs mate haha, everyone else cuts the song in such weird ways for their reactions
In Rainbows disc 2 is surprisingly good, at least four of the songs are good enough to be on In Rainbows itself.
love to see the house of cards appreciation! it's consistently the most disliked on the album but it's my favourite, i love it so much
Aw no way, it’s amazing!!
I love it too! I think many people don't like it because they don't know the meaning behind it and it is musically very simple. Beautiful track though! It always gives me goosebumps when I listen to it!
@@en16ma_music Isn’t it about hooking up at a key party? Personally I don’t like it because it’s the only song they do that just seems surface level and shallow like every pop song: “let’s not think about our lives and just f*ck.”
I could be wrong, but that’s my thinking.
That’s rad that so many people like you agree on the summer vibes 🌞🌈
Please do not forget the huge amount of fantastic b-sides the band has no other band I have ever heard has so many great non-album tracks, more than many popular bands have a-sides.
this album has a pretty stacked B-side that you shouldn't miss out on
I just listened to this last night, what an experience, incredible album.
Nice reaction my guy. You seem to pick up a lot of stuff from a first listen! I've listened to this album a lot and you still touched upon a few things that I hadn't noticed or thought about. I look forward to more of your stuff!
definitely when i’m at the beach, or just trippin in my room
Thank you for the very thoughtful and enjoyable reaction! Can we watch your reactions to the other albums somewhere?
@@_CoasterNinja I will eventually get around to them, sorry! I always have a million creative projects that I’m working on
The live sessions are mindblowing good it’s studio quality. Even better.
Nude begins with the ending, but in reverse, so you’re pretty close there
That’s rad! TOOL did something similar with an interlude on their Fear Inoculum album called Legion Inoculant
Videotape actually changed a lot when it was in the process of being made, in 2006 radiohead went live in bonaroo and videotape was sung but in a much different tone. I assume it was changed because it didn’t fit being the last song of the album but I like both the live and studio versions. I’d recommend giving it a listen if you have the time, I think you’d like it
Sounds cool!
It actually has a hidden syncopation, we hear it “different” from what they’re actually playing.
this album teleports me to me as a teenage girl listening to it for the first time.
I love Era Vulgaris but haven’t heard Like Clockwork yet!
Masterpiece of an album!
Great reaction vid. It is a really beautiful album. You're also beautiful to look at ;)
Oh thank you haha 🌞
@@ericgoodwinart you're most welcome! I can't wait to see your King of Limbs and A Moon Shaped Pool reaction vids.
This is the best album ever.
I’ve listened to “Songs for the Deaf” and “Era Vulgaris” many times each
Love the reaction! For me, and I think for Thom too, this album is: well i'm going to die so just enjoy the ride.
Definitely feels like enjoying the ride of life on this one 🌞
And thanks!
I liked it! I agree it doesn’t seem as experimental as hail to the thief but it’s all pretty solid stuff. I think I might like hail a bit better? it might have songs that I liked liked more but this one might be overall more consistent solid. also, would you consider updating your profile picture? I like your new stuff!
I think I agree with all of that! And yeah, maybe I should haha
great reaction!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
I also really get into Queens of the Stone Age discography while I was listening to all the Radiohead discography :D That Bodysnatchers fuzz and multi-layered guitars are very qotsa but you also need to add creepiness which Radiohead has in OK Computer.
it takes me out of this small room i'm in
In Rainbows - from the glorious middle of Reckoner. "Because we separate like ripples on a black shore... In rainbows, in rainbows, in rainbows" So ethereal rhat its very hard to hear the words but its one of the most beautiful moments on a flawless album...
That IS beautiful! I’ve gotta listen to the album with the lyrics sometime soon👍🏻
Oh wow, interesting that it goes back to the OK era! And that’s pretty cool about Neil Young, thanks for sharing 🌞👍🏻
This one is medicine for your soul
Still checking back for the next RH album!
I jumped straight to ALL I NEED
need a caracture of the radiohead members that would be so crazy😭
I should definitely draw them sometime!
Faust is a character from a play in which the motif of the angel and devil on the shoulder originated from. The light and dark forces of the world pulling Faust in different directions, personified in angels and devils.
As my friend Ethan said, In Rainbows is the biblically accurate, best album by Radiohead
What you said around 1:04:28 - 1:04:58 is very true and gave me the methaphorical idea that each one of these songs represents a distinct color of the collective rainbow that is the album. Might be a bit far-fetched, and of course not unique to this album, but I like the thematic fit here 😂
Oooo I like that way of thinking about it! Nicely said 🌈
I would not put it past them to do that with some help from Stanley maybe?
You’re awesome man
Hey thanks! 🌞👍🏻
You might be thinking of Nick Drake during Faust Arp I get that vibe from it.
Yes, you should listen to the "Unlimited Love" album by RHCP, it's great!
The word for this album is cohesive.
Absolutely!
Best album of all time in my opinion.
57:30 first time listening to house of cards with clothes on

If you are into the dance-y bits of Radiohead, I think you may like King of Limbs. Its actually one of my favorite Radiohead albums. there is a lot of dance-y bits to it and then the back half of it is very atmospheric. I think you stated that you like atmospheric and dance-y bits. Separator blends those elements to me.
They (only Thom and Johnny + a marching band) performed 15 Step live at 2009 Grammy's
I've heard someone said that Arpeggi is plural of Arpeggio.
Oh wow, cool! (For both)
I found this theory on Genius which I thought was actually genius: It’s worth mentioning that as soon as Yorke sings the first "on videotape", the drums immediately start going "out of control". The sound produced is similar to that of a tape reel doing likewise. The words repeat in rhythm with the drums because the tape is stuck on a loop.
Oh that’s an interesting idea!
This is a perfect hike or bike ride album
Yeah I could see that 🌞🏔🚲
@@ericgoodwinart I love these reaction videos and if you haven’t already I think oracular spectacular by mgmt is definitely an album worth checking out
Funny you mentioned RHCP, they cited Frusciante as an influence which you can definitely hear in songs like Nude, Reckoner and House of Cards.
Definitely recommend some QOTSA!!! Just pick up wherever you left off. Their newer albums are great, especially their most recent they just dropped. Dark, groovy, sexy, creative robot-rock.
I’d give anything to listen to in rainbows for the first time again
funny how you said about the in rainbows on the very song they sing in rainbows in. reckoner for me is my favorite ever song.
Weird Fishes / Arpeggi for me my brother 💗🕊💗
Faust is an old German legend that has been adapted lots of times over the centuries by different writers. Faust sells his soul to the devil in return for knowledge and pleasures but in the end the devil will return to claim Faust's soul. It's the first time the old 'meeting the devil at a crossroads' story appears.
Ohhhhh cool, thanks for the info! So Faust is a character, not a writer or philosopher, got it👍🏻
During the intro to Nude, it is indeed backwards! It's actually the outro reversed :)
what you mentioned on "off-beat" on videotape is due to the song having hidden syncopation all over it. they usually have to start several times at live concert because people clap on the wrong beat and each instrument starts in a different time, so it messes everything if they don't catch from the beggining.
Great album and what’s even better it was a free download when first launched on iTunes as part of Radioheads approach of pay what you can afford.
I listen to Radiohead as a backdrop to my daydreaming, indeed preferably outside, with the risk of enacting what the music makes me feel and scare one or another bystander
In Rainbows is the last scream of beauty before death
Nice vibes
Might not be up your alley, but I highly recommend listening to Ant From Up There by Black Country, New Road. Best album of the decade so far.
Also videotape was a very upbeat song originally, they stripped it back massively. Was anthemic previously. Bonarro version is the best live version to hear it
Really… interesting! Would not have guessed that!
you should listen to in rainbows disk 2, it has one of my favorite songs.
Down is the new up?

It's definitely not before queens of the stone age. QOTSA formed and released their debut album in the late 90s
Ok good to know, thanks
You should do the two basement sessions and The King Of Limbs transforms into a masterpeice from the basement, the studio version not so much.
