Alright, this is an amazing album reaction!! Granted, this is one of, if not, the GREATEST METAL ALBUMS EVER!! Certainly #1 in my opinion! You got me! Subscribed and ready to see your reaction to Peace Sells But Who's Buying!! It's an older Megadeth album, so you can see their roots, but it's also just about as strong as Rust In Peace!!!
I love this album so much. It gets better and better and better. Always. I love Megadeth so much. I dont want to type up 8 pages. I love this band. Enjoyed your video Metri. Side note: Five Magics was your fav song? Mustaine wrote it after reading Master of the Five Magics by Lyndon Hardy.
Congratulation to listening to 1 of the top 10 metal albums ever!!!! This is a masterpiece and this should almost be among the top albums ever!!! This album got it all and the musical composition is just amazing!
10:51 Btw if you felt the need to play electric guitar, do it!! I was the same way, this album is what got me into guitar originally and it’s quite literally designed for guitar nerds. Guitar is great for your mental health and super satisfying. Btw lead guitarist in Megadeth is Marty Friedman and he’s a huge legend to most. Inspired many many people to play.
Great pick and great video bro. If you want more albums that sound similar to Rust in Peace you should react to Cowboys from Hell by Pantera. another absolutely goated album
This is my favorite album of all time and for good reason. It's the album that made me wanna play guitar, it's the album that truly got me into metal, it showed me how to song write and the intricacies of songwriting, Rust in Peace is a musical delicacy in comparison to any other album the came before or after it. Edit: ALSO MORE INFO the guitarist you liked is Marty Friedman, he's a blues guitarist whose mostly known for Megadeth and for being a Japanese artist. He still tours but separate from Megadeth, with his blues and sorta jpop based shows. Dave Mustaine is the singer and main songwriter as well as the owner of Megadeth. He was actually kicked out of Metallica in 1983 (he was the original lead guitarist, hence why the riffs are absolutely insane) and they proceeded to use his music on their first 3 albums. This album is considered one of the greats in the metal community. It's a great start! Nick Menza is the drummer, he sadly passed away due to a heart attack in 2016 but he was also considered one of the best drummers in all of metal history David Ellefson is the bassist, (responsible for all the basslines+ Dawn Patrol) He's an ok bassist, almost completely known for strictly Megadeth, but he isn't super great of a bassist in metal overall
Marty Friedman is one of my most impactful inspirations in case of lead guitar playing. The man is a treasure to the guitar world. The instrumentals on this album are out of this world. Tornado of Souls has one of the most respected solos in the metal genre, your reaction reflects that perfectly!
just subcribed, loved watching this video! my dad bough me this CD at Best Buy in like 2009 when I was like 13, I just started getting into music, I was mainly listening to lotssss of metal and Grunge at the time, Slipknot was my favorite band and they were huge at that time. My dad bought this album for me because he wanted to show me how diverse metal was, basically he was like "Yeah Slipknot is cool, but trust me this shit is better, this is what I listened to in High school" e.t.c this album literally changed my life, I fucking love Rust In Peace, definitely one of rhe greatest albums of all time.
Im 50 y/0. When this record was made i was 17 or 18 i remember this time...few weeks ago i was back to this album after...30 years and You know what ? Now after all these years i can say this is best album ever..not only Megadeth..not only Thrash metal....this is best album ever :-)!!!!!!!
I'll tip you off to the meaning of the last song bc you might appreciate it more. It's about launching a nuclear missle and starting a nuclear war. Dave, the lead singer is singing the song as though he is the nuclear missle (A Polaris Missle ). His voice changes bc he is a different character...as though he is the Polaris Missle. "Spread disease like a dog...." "discharge my payload..." rotten egg smell of death" . He's basically saying what will happen after the nuclear missle explodes. When will it cease? "The warheads (the missles) will all RUST in peace". That is a play on the phrase, "rest in peace". Meaning, if we choose peace instead of war, the missles will sit in their silos and simply "rust in peace", never to be used to kill millions of people! Thanks for the great reaction video. Looking forward to more in the future. I'll let someone else tell you the difference between types of metal. Even metal fans disagree about what defines each sub-genre of metal. This here is "thrash metal". We all pretty much agree on that.
track listing: Holy speed … the exhaustion due Hangar speedteen Take no speed Five magics (Speed! Speed! Speed! Speed! and Speed!) Poison was the Speed Lucridouspeed Tornado of Speed Speed Patrol Rust in Peace … Polaris I’m just kidding: Rust in Peace … Speed!
You got me all emotional up in here, man. Sharing the joy and awe in music is life. Iron Maiden - The Number of the Beast, but you gotta go on a TOOL journey sometime. 🤘x♾️
Listened to five magics for the first time like three days ago , usually I’d get tired of a song by now after having it on repeat but I haven’t it never gets old !🤍
Dave Mustaine was Metallica"s first lead guitarist. This is why we were all saying on the Black Album reaction that you should give some earlier Metallica a listen, because they used to be just as hard and aggressive as this. I know you're checking out different vands, bur you've GOT to check out Metallica's Master of Puppets, man, it's seen by many as one of the absolute GOATs.
The song Rust In Peace… Polaris is sung from two prospectives, the weird voice is a nuclear weapon named Polaris and the normal voice I can only assume is some kind of narration
This is Megadeth´s 4th album published in 1990, a thrash metal album considered their masterpiece. For this work the line-up was: Dave Mustaine - Rhythm guitar & vocals Marty Friedman - Lead guitar David Ellefson - Bass Nick Menza (RIP) - Drums Some little info about the tracks: 1. Holy wars... The punishment due: This one is actually 2 songs ("Holy wars" & "The punishment due") the one inspired by an irish conflict at the time where the band got involved during a concert and had to flee in an armored vehicle; the later refers to The punisher comics which made part of Mustaine´s childhood. The weird scratchy sound just before the last solo is a certain type of "Artificial Harmonic", a sound made by pressing lightly with your freet hand and picking over some certain places, not a common technique really. It has to be the band´s most famous song. 2. Hangar 18: The drummer Nick convinced Dave to write a song about the Area 51. This one has a cool video featuring the supposed aliens at it. The chord progression at the begining is taken from an older Metallica demo "When hell freezes over" which eventually became "The call of ktulu". It happens that Mustaine used to be a former member of Metallica and wrote a bunch of songs for the band, included the forementioned before being kicked out due to his drunk behavior. 3. Take no prisoners: This has to be one of the hardest songs the band has ever written. The album cover artwork was in charge of Ed Repka which has previously work for the band and many other; it depicts the band´s mascot "Vic Rattlehead" present since the very first album and designed by Mustaine himself, a skeleton that incarnates the phrase "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil". 4. Five magics: Never got to be played live until the 2010 album´s anniversary tour, though it use to be played at sound checks in early 90´s. The song is about a book of Mustaine´s childhood. The title makes sense as the 5th solo section and the "I master five magics" are both in meters of 5 beats instead of the usual 4, again that´s pretty unusual and at the begining might sound awkard, it takes time to get used to and enjoy it. 5. Poison was the cure: Actually the hardest Megadeth song hands down. This was the first solo Marty recorded and it is splendid. Song´s about Dave´s addiction to heroin; shit was so bad around the band that caused previous members to be unable to play. Mustaine and Ellefson went several times to rehab until eventually getting clean, meanwhile the album was made during the abuse of drugs just as the previous ones. 6. Lucretia: About a granny ghost living in Dave´s attic. The laught at the begining is Mustaine LOL. Also features some weird measure of 31/16? beats by the verses. I love this one, it is so unique within Megadeth´s cathalogue. It has some of the best both Dave´s and Marty´s solos. To think that Mustaine was about to not give Marty a chance to audition just because of his hairstyle. 7. Dawn patrol: Mustaine added it just so Ellefson got a song credited to.Tension between the 2 founding members started and will detonate in the next millenia with Ellefson´s departure of the band in 2 distinct instances. 8. Tornado of souls: People argue this one has one of the best guitar solos in metal. Dave had a girlfriend that he was obsessed with so much that a bunch of classic tracks are dedicated to her including this one. The band plays it almost every time, but recently they got to play it oncemore accompanied by former member Marty Friedman in a couple of shows. 9. Co-written with Nick, this track is also from the time when Dave was in Metallica, in fact you can hear him singing the main riff in an old demo recording while Lars tells him to shut up. There was an incident when Mustaine was listening to the radio while driving and suddenly he hears 1988´s "Child saint - Child saint" instantly thinking "That´s my song" Child Saint admited to learn the song at a party where Mustaine was playing it.
lol I watched you listen to this whole album and the best part was when the Tornado of Souls guitar solo was coming up. I knew you were about to hear Marty Friedman's masterpiece solo, but you didn't. You had the right reaction.
Man there are so many great megadeth songs, next album you should check is "So Far so good.... so what?", also a reccomendation that's more niche for you to listen to later is "Death" since you seem to be enjoying megadeth so far, you will probably fall in love with Death metal, since its basically trash metal but more agressive, sometimes more melodic, progressive and technical it's incredible, another band you should check out later too is dissection, it's a mix between death, thrash and melodic black metal, you should check the following albums Death: Being completely honest, they are one of the only bands ever that have a perfect discography, although i think spiritual healing (album) should be left for last, since i find it a little bit too niche, although i love the album even for me it was hard to get into that album at first. Dissection: The somberlain Storm of the Light's bane. Even if you don't make a video about them, please check their albums out, you won't regret it.
30:10 Basically any subgenre can have growls, but they are mostly on Death Metal. The one that I can easily recommend with this type is Opeth, the singer has a great singing voice and a crystal clear Cookie Monster voice
Okay man, this might be a bit too early But I recommend you listen to a band called Children of Bodom It's an amazing band that mixes melodic and heaviness into one thing. And its a good band for you to start getting into the more aggressive vocal style. More specifically try the third (blue) album - Follow the Reaper
Man, I'm from Brazil and I love your videos reacting to metal, please listen the album "Roots" by Sepultura They're a Brazilian groovy metal band, it has that "growl"thing u were talking about, but I think you're gonna fuck with it man Give it a try
If you like metal with clean vocals, Draconian Times by Paradise Lost is an album I think you'd enjoy. Always happy to see people getting into metal for the first time. I feel lucky to have been raised on it and I love recommending new music to people!
30:12 growls are in a bunch but usually metalcore, deathcore, some thrash metal (more clean screaming than growls), some groove metal, death metal, grindcore, emo/screamo, black metal, non power symphonic metal. Clean vocals are normally traditional heavy metal (can be raspy), stoner metal, desert metal, doom metal, hair metal (usually goes high pitch), progressive metal, some thrash metal, fuzz metal, some groove metal, power metal, some speed metal, some celtic metal. Industrial metal is also another that has a bit of both, Rammstein for example is industrial metal without the growls while Fear Factory is industrial metal with the growls. That said when it comes to metal core and death core there is quite a spectrum between clean singing and growls with many doing a bit of both. For older and newer examples, Killswitch Engage was one of the first metal core bands while spirit box is a great later band that also switches between clean and growls with the female singer. Female singers also change it up a lot too even the growlers. Arch Enemy (especially with original female singer Angelia) has a much different feel as a thrash metal band which most argue is a melodic death metal band. Most genres are in a spectrum but usually death metal and black metal are always the 100% growlers. The most popular death metal band would probably be Cannibal Corpse and the most popular black metal at least to me would be Satyricon. There are also hybrid bands like Ministry that float between metal and flavors of electronic dance music. Megadeth is thrash metal and one of the 4 bands that popularized thrash metal. The other 3 being Metallica, Slayer and Anthrax. Testament and Exodus is also up there as main founders of thrash.
Rust In Peace is easily one of my favorite albums of all time. But another favorite classic metal song of mine would be The Hellion/Electric Eye by Judas Priest. Way ahead of its time in my opinion!
"Heavy Metal" is just what Metal was called in the very beginning, but after the genre split into different sub-genres like thrash metal, power metal ect. the umbrella term of "Metal" came to be. In the scene "Heavy Metal" is used to describe the bands who stick to the old school sound. It's basically a subgenre in metal.
We've got Black Sabbath, Metallica and now Megadeth. It would be criminal not to do Slayer next. I would say probably start with their album Show No Mercy (it's their first album and it's a banger). Reign In Blood is also a really sick one with songs like Angel of Death and Raining Blood. Aside from that, I would also recommend South of Heaven and Seasons In The Abyss. I also, personally, like their newer 2015 album Repentless, but I haven't seen that many reactions to that album. Show No Mercy would be a good start though. My dad literally has/had the whole album memorized and when he was in school he took acid once and someone asked what he was listening to and he gave them the headphones and nothing was playing but he was singing along because he had the whole thing memorized and was hallucinating the music.
hey !! i love your channel and have been watching for a few months now. i like that you've branched off into more rock and metal, even if i loved your lana del rey reactions (which is the main reason i love her sm). i think that you'd might (not 100% sure) like korn. since i wouldnt pick any certain album, i would say listen to their compilation, which is "korn greatest hits vol. 1". i will say, though, that he tends to yell in his music. i know you don't like the screamning type of music, which i understand, but it's not the same as that. i listen to a lot of everything, and i started branching out into metal and numetal this year. i think it may not be your thing at first, but if you give it a chance, you might like it. keep up the amazing work and i look forward to seeing what albums you react to next !! 💓
Megadeth is an awesome band man, the range is amazing. Even in this album, they have infused funk, groove, jazz, thrash, heavy, all kinds of sonic euphoria
Metal with growls that i believe you can appreciate, you like the musical side of metal, the riffs and rhythms? Try Opeth, their live performance of Harlequin forest in 4k at royal alberts hall, its like a completely new genre of music and a total vibe. believe me.
'Rust in Peace' aka the last song, is about nuclear missiles/warfare (RE: The Cold War; Russia had her missiles aimed at us from Cuba vs. US Navy submarines.. all of which ultimately ended up 'rusting' in peace). the 'voice effect' you speak of.. the lyrics sung are from the perspective of 'Polaris' aka a nuclear warhead, as if reporting from the battlefield like a news reporter. the chorus is basically 'Polaris' detailing its effects.
Fun story about the first song, after the middle eastern sounding guitar line, the song becomes The Punishment Due, and it’s about Marvel’s The Punisher, and it is told from the perspective of Frank Castle.
This is actually such an amazing album. Dave mustaine was mostly in and out of rehab in the making of this, while Marty friedman had just been hired to work on this album. Same with the bassit Dave he had some drug issues too and was in rehab with mustaine
What your digging is called “thrash metal”, and in my opinion this the best one there is!!! You need to check out, same band, “Countdown to Extinction “ and “Youthanasia”. You’ll dig those for sure, maybe even “The world needs a hero”.
What’s amazing when you listen to this album as well as a lot of Black Sabbath in the jazz elements in their music. It’s crazy, but when you hear it, you can’t not hear it again.
If you enjoyed this Album. Megadeths song Angry Again is a great one to listen to. The Song is downright one of the best. In my professional Thrasher opinion.
my ears was just craving some electric guitar but they are dope asf 😂.
Could you please react to The hurting album by tears for fears? I love your content❤️

Indeed. Poison was the cure is a gnarly riff as well.
Respect for liking Five Magics, a song that many times gets overlooked.
Great pick and great video bro. If you want more albums that sound similar to Rust in Peace you should react to Cowboys from Hell by Pantera. another absolutely goated album
Second
Bro you have to listen to Megadeth’s 1986 release: Peace Sells… But Who’s Buying?
And " Killing is business"
This is my favorite album of all time and for good reason. It's the album that made me wanna play guitar, it's the album that truly got me into metal, it showed me how to song write and the intricacies of songwriting, Rust in Peace is a musical delicacy in comparison to any other album the came before or after it.
Edit: ALSO MORE INFO
the guitarist you liked is Marty Friedman, he's a blues guitarist whose mostly known for Megadeth and for being a Japanese artist.
Nick Menza is the drummer, he sadly passed away due to a heart attack in 2016 but he was also considered one of the best drummers in all of metal history
David Ellefson is the bassist, (responsible for all the basslines+ Dawn Patrol) He's an ok bassist, almost completely known for strictly Megadeth, but he isn't super great of a bassist in metal overall
Your Reaction to Marty's guitar solo at Tornado Souls was my reaction when I first heard that song back in 2004 when I was 11 years old.
Marty Friedman is one of my most impactful inspirations in case of lead guitar playing. The man is a treasure to the guitar world. The instrumentals on this album are out of this world. Tornado of Souls has one of the most respected solos in the metal genre, your reaction reflects that perfectly!
Disturbed - Ten thousand fists
You gotta hear this album, full of bangers, bars, grooves, uniqueness, etc... A gem of the 2000s metal
You are awesome! Loved this, keep going!!!!!
amazing react, bro got this one
just subcribed, loved watching this video! my dad bough me this CD at Best Buy in like 2009 when I was like 13, I just started getting into music, I was mainly listening to lotssss of metal and Grunge at the time, Slipknot was my favorite band and they were huge at that time. My dad bought this album for me because he wanted to show me how diverse metal was, basically he was like "Yeah Slipknot is cool, but trust me this shit is better, this is what I listened to in High school" e.t.c this album literally changed my life, I fucking love Rust In Peace, definitely one of rhe greatest albums of all time.
up next for metal is Iron Maiden the Number of the Beast album. it is a great album!
Im 50 y/0. When this record was made i was 17 or 18 i remember this time...few weeks ago i was back to this album after...30 years and You know what ? Now after all these years i can say this is best album ever..not only Megadeth..not only Thrash metal....this is best album ever :-)!!!!!!!
i'd recommend watching old interviews, making of albums, and documentaries on megadeth and other bands you discover to really get to know them
I'll tip you off to the meaning of the last song bc you might appreciate it more. It's about launching a nuclear missle and starting a nuclear war.
Dave, the lead singer is singing the song as though he is the nuclear missle (A Polaris Missle ).
His voice changes bc he is a different character...as though he is the Polaris Missle.
"Spread disease like a dog...."
"discharge my payload..."
rotten egg smell of death" .
We all pretty much agree on that.
track listing:
Holy speed … the exhaustion due
Hangar speedteen
Take no speed
Five magics (Speed! Speed! Speed! Speed! and Speed!)
Poison was the Speed
Lucridouspeed
Tornado of Speed
Speed Patrol
Rust in Peace … Polaris
I’m just kidding:
Rust in Peace … Speed!
You got me all emotional up in here, man. Sharing the joy and awe in music is life. Iron Maiden - The Number of the Beast, but you gotta go on a TOOL journey sometime. 🤘x♾️
This
Damn he listened to the whole album at once! I just closed whatever video I was just watching and went here when I noticed it in the reccomended
Hell yeah Five Magics is a favorite for me too. This entire album is too good.
Listened to five magics for the first time like three days ago , usually I’d get tired of a song by now after having it on repeat but I haven’t it never gets old !🤍
real af, Rust in Peace in general never gets boring.
I HIGHLY recommend doing peace sells…but who’s buying for the next album. i’d kill to see you hear the conjuring for the first time
This is peak Megadeth, I was 13 when this album came out and it's still a favorite of mine. Still listen to it all the damn time.
My bro is in heaven right now while listening to metal. Let's goooooooo more metalllllll! btw, welcome to the metal community.
This is Megadeth´s 4th album published in 1990, a thrash metal album considered their masterpiece. For this work the line-up was:
Dave Mustaine - Rhythm guitar & vocals
Marty Friedman - Lead guitar
David Ellefson - Bass
Nick Menza (RIP) - Drums
Some little info about the tracks:
There was an incident when Mustaine was listening to the radio while driving and suddenly he hears 1988´s "Child saint - Child saint" instantly thinking "That´s my song" Child Saint admited to learn the song at a party where Mustaine was playing it.
pretty sure dave got clean before writing this album. He was definitely struggling on so far so good though.
really good video man, your reactions are sick! even I can't believe I watched through the entire video LOL
lol I watched you listen to this whole album and the best part was when the Tornado of Souls guitar solo was coming up. I knew you were about to hear Marty Friedman's masterpiece solo, but you didn't. You had the right reaction.
Man there are so many great megadeth songs, next album you should check is "So Far so good.... so what?", also a reccomendation that's more niche for you to listen to later is "Death" since you seem to be enjoying megadeth so far, you will probably fall in love with Death metal, since its basically trash metal but more agressive, sometimes more melodic, progressive and technical it's incredible, another band you should check out later too is dissection, it's a mix between death, thrash and melodic black metal, you should check the following albums
Death:
Being completely honest, they are one of the only bands ever that have a perfect discography, although i think spiritual healing (album) should be left for last, since i find it a little bit too niche, although i love the album even for me it was hard to get into that album at first.
Dissection:
The somberlain
Storm of the Light's bane.
Even if you don't make a video about them, please check their albums out, you won't regret it.
I fukin love your reactions
Had to sub, love Megadeth and your reaction style!👍🏻🤘🏻
30:10 Basically any subgenre can have growls, but they are mostly on Death Metal. The one that I can easily recommend with this type is Opeth, the singer has a great singing voice and a crystal clear Cookie Monster voice
Okay man, this might be a bit too early
But I recommend you listen to a band called Children of Bodom
It's an amazing band that mixes melodic and heaviness into one thing. And its a good band for you to start getting into the more aggressive vocal style.
More specifically try the third (blue) album - Follow the Reaper
By the way, Marty’s solo on Tornado is widely regarded as one of the best ever. Megadeth is known for the their top notch musicianship.
26:04 Lucretia? I'm dead.🤣 greatest reaction to this album on YT. DO more REACTIONS PLEASE!
Man, I'm from Brazil and I love your videos reacting to metal, please listen the album "Roots" by Sepultura
They're a Brazilian groovy metal band, it has that "growl"thing u were talking about, but I think you're gonna fuck with it man
Give it a try
Your genuinely a G for this vid im subbing, at 0:58 that reaction is the realest thing ever
It's basically a subgenre in metal.
one of the greatest albums of all time, great choice! they are amazing live
My friend! You are only scratching the surface. Check out their first album : " Killing is My Business... And Business is Good! "
Peace Sells - Megadeth. The whole album :D
Genuinely appreciate your respect for metal.
Bro you don’t know what I’d give to listen to this album for the first time again
hey !! i love your channel and have been watching for a few months now. i like that you've branched off into more rock and metal, even if i loved your lana del rey reactions (which is the main reason i love her sm). i think that you'd might (not 100% sure) like korn. since i wouldnt pick any certain album, i would say listen to their compilation, which is "korn greatest hits vol. 1". i will say, though, that he tends to yell in his music. i know you don't like the screamning type of music, which i understand, but it's not the same as that. i listen to a lot of everything, and i started branching out into metal and numetal this year. i think it may not be your thing at first, but if you give it a chance, you might like it. keep up the amazing work and i look forward to seeing what albums you react to next !! 💓
Megadeth is an awesome band man, the range is amazing. Even in this album, they have infused funk, groove, jazz, thrash, heavy, all kinds of sonic euphoria
Metal with growls that i believe you can appreciate, you like the musical side of metal, the riffs and rhythms? Try Opeth, their live performance of Harlequin forest in 4k at royal alberts hall, its like a completely new genre of music and a total vibe. believe me.
This album, and Master of Puppets are the pinnacle of thrash greatness.
bro just discovered the holy grail itself. Keep rockin bro hope you do enjoy metal shi and stuff😅😂
Man I've been lovin your content recently. I would totally recommend rex orange county, especially his earlier albums like apricot princess!
I consider this to be one of the greatest metal albums of all time. Every song is incredible.
Homeboy is slowly but surely becoming a metalhead, love to see it
This record was just way ahead of its time.
I wish I could listen to this again for the 1st time. One of the best albums I have ever heard.
It’s crazy, but when you hear it, you can’t not hear it again.
hopefully we get portals reaction soon😞
If you enjoyed this Album. Megadeths song Angry Again is a great one to listen to. The Song is downright one of the best. In my professional Thrasher opinion.
Dude you are listening to on of the best metal lineups of all time
