If the Strollers had been in another country, in another time, they would have been internationl hits. So sad their talent was not further expanded. But, we are so lucky we know of them and hear their songs. See, we had the best. Hey, Malaysia, these guys deserve a bigger place in artistic history!
May god Rest His Soul In Peace. Thks for d info. Really sad that our local RTM did not even take notice of his departure. Useless bloody broadcasting station.
I am a Singaporean n indeed very very happy able to see and hear my favourite Malaysian band The Strollers over youtube. I saw them playing at a club in Ampang if my memory is correct way back to the late 60's. I love all their songs that bring back fond n wonderful memories. I am keeping a compilation of their songs including Frankie Cheah too (fyi 1957GANDHI). Your music lives on not only in Malaysia but here in Singapore too. Loves you!!
I think I'm the latest comment.... there's some 11 yrs, 13 yrs and so on. I'm 70 and back then they were so so popular..... in still listening and can any one tell me if any of them are still alive
I just heard this on Lite FM and brought back old memories. I was only 11 in 72. But got to know more about them during my teens. Always a favourite by many of us "baby boomer" generation. And terribly proud of them! Live on, Strollers and thanks Keith!
just one word.FANTASTIC!goose bumps all over just listening.already 50.didn t think i could get these songs thru internet.what a nice feeling.gooood job!
I listened to this song when I was a teenager in early 70's and would always love to hear it on radio back then.. Now am in my late 50's and yet i cannot possibly forget this lovely song. About 30 minutes ago I tried to find this song on youtube and thank God for keith for sharing this beautiful song. I listened and listened and replayed and am never never bored of listening to the song again and again. Are they playing at O1 Skool Bistro Jalan Gasing? I would love to go and see them.
1972 I was only 12 years old,The First time I heard this lovely song from Malaysian radio,It knocked me down in bed. Then one of a local band "Extrovert" covered for their performance in Narathiwas. That was my beautiful day back then.Keithyoong.KopKoon Khrup Mark-Mark (Thank you very much)
I use to hear this song while i was in lower secondary school i.e over 30 years ago..i am glad that i can hear this song again after missing it over the last 3 decade.infact i was looking for this song for a long time..thanks to keithyoong..god bless
I remember these guys when I was with the October Cherries long time ago music was alive with loads of local talented bands in this peninsula miss those times
Hi, keithyoong.........i love those songs by the Strollers......just beautiful & worth listening........good piece for relaxing.....thanx for the download
Though I'm a Singaporean but love The Strollers in the 70s especially Silly Joke which I requested through LiteFM many years ago on a Sunday mostly oldies and dedicated to the family of the group as well as all Malaysian too
Thanks to you for posting The strollers. I wish you can get hold of those M'sian artistes like Frankie Cheah,Katie Chow and mike Gurchan. To you young kids out there, long long time ago M'sian artistes boleh.
Wow..The Mercedes Lorry at the back can still be seen on the roads in 2020. I just found out abt Strollers 5 years ago in youtube and fall in love with their music ever since.
the best Malaysian band in my time. Nand Kumar and Michael Magnes belting the originals as good as any foreign band. "The Strollers 2 " are currently performing in a pub in P.Jaya. They still do the originals to a raving crowd every Thursday. Last week Michael Junior perform a one off. I was informed that his dad is living in Australia and he is trying to bring him back for his 70th birthday for a final countdown show! Isnt this great news? Meanwhile Nand Kumar is staying in USA.
First time I listen this song, my prediction this is a band from UK like The Bettles.....but my prediction is wrong. This is one of Malaysian band in late 70s because all songs is sung in perfect english.... I love all their songs.....Sweet memories....
Good news for you fans out there. Just saw this band perform at ol skool bistro in jalan gasing yesterday. They sing this song every Thursdays there and moany more beautiful songs with great guitar. Check them out. Most or almost all are still the original members.
Remember my brother crazy about them, when I saw the slides then I remember the vinyl that my bro used to have. Anyway saw the Strollers 2 performing at Bukit Tinggi for Christmas gala n dinner. Well they sing mostly cover none of the original recording was there. Thanks Keith for the memories.
willsim45, glad you found this. You never know how many new friends I've made through my channel. And now there's one more. Welcome to the club. Thanks to the Strollers for their nice music that foster friendship even at our age.
Thank you, harismaniac. I didn't realise these songs by the Strollers on my channel would make such a great impact on people of our age. Those memories of our schooldays back in the 70's always leave a smile on our faces, right ? Bicycle rides to schools and plucking rambutans, I suppose.
You're welcome. Glad to have you here - another 'kaki'. Did these songs send you down memory lane ? Back when you were at school ? Most of here did that.
Sorry for the mistakes in my previous comment...I was saying that I had been looking for these songs for a long time. I was still a student in Kuching when the band performed at Dewan Tun Abd, Razak, but I could not get to see them because of the college dorm curfew at the time.
kurniasan, Very interesting. Good effort. I have drafted one for the English Wikipedia but still trying to gather more info before I post it. Good on you, mate.
Keith, what happened to the original lead singer for the band? Jimmy Olivero? no mention at all. I remember he was the voice behind Strollers' first hit - I wanna be free or something. These are great stuff by our Malaysian musicians, I hope they all are doing well like Frankie. I know that Michale went on to make it very big in jingles but what about the rest. Thanks
aditiajaya, if they could see things the way we do, there's still hope for this country. But with all the issues defending one race's rights, this country is going to the dumps. The Strollers were a fine example of uniting all races and working together. The result is amazing. Everybody enjoys the fruits of labour. Glad we're on the same frequency, mate. Thanks
This is a song called ' Silly Joke ' not ' Silly Jokes ' as it has somehow turned into by the announcements on the radio by uninformed DJs or CD cover designers nowadays who don't know about the history of this song, first released in 1973. Anyway , one can listen to the lyrics of the song which goes " To me this whole thing seems to be a silly joke. The ' a ' there denotes the singular so how can it be ' Silly Jokes ' ? Silly right ?
Another 'kaki'. Welcome to this section, like you said the oldies section. Thanks. Not so sure about Keith Locke & The Quests but will google them later.
And won't you beleive if I tell you that I still have the lyrics on one of my Std 6's exercise book. Yep, I copied it myself while listening to my transistor radios. Remember those things ? Ipods of our times.
One of those Malaysian Bands back then who did good music. Very Nostalgic. I was a kid growing up then. I would put them in the same level as some of those American Bands like Three Dog Nights and Grand Funk Railroad (GFR) . Well not as heavy as GFR and stil the best in Malaysia.
Yes ! we were the YOUNG ONES, HAPPY CAREFREE GO LUCKY KIDS... PLAYED KITES, MARBLES, WENT SWIMMING IN MINING POLLS, PARTY EVERY WEEKENDS, MY GROUP was the PENGUINS, HUNTERS, RAVENS, FALCONS, STROLLERS, STRYKERS, POOR BOYS, MEMORIES YELLOW JACKETS, QUESTS, NAOMI and THE BOYS, THUNDERBIRDS, WERE THE GROUPS PLAYING AROUND TOWN AND STADIUMS, SO IT YOU KEITHYOONG WHO WROTE THE STROLLERS SONGS.? GOD BLESS ! WE WERE INFINITE AND THE MMEMORIES LINGER ON !
@wiranto89 Please click on 'more info' (below video) to review lyrics. The chords are out of alignment. Please kindly sort them out yourself. No way of adjusting it. Anyway enjoy.
Thanks for the info. Too bad you may not have the album, otherwise you will find from the cover sleeve that it is in fact "Silly Jokes" and not just "Silly Joke". And about Nand Kumar's demise, probably ikansusu was referring to Nand Kumar's son who is now in the US. Please enjoy the songs like the rest of the viewers and don't use this as a platform to outsmart other's comments. This is not a forum to prove you are one smart aleck.

Like in any nation, for it to grow one must suffer thru in order to come together. I pray it will come soon.
I was nine the first time the song SILLY JOKE first played. So long ago!
Wow...
The Strollers was awesome...
i hardly believe that in fact they are malaysian band....

Hey, that's a good idea. Will do something about this. Thanks for your contribution.
Simon, at least you know what to do to sober up. Now that the price of petrol costs more than beer, why not ? Drink, Don't Drive !
Cheers mate.

Malaysia had a band that could match most of world's if enough publicity was given by their label in UK and Europe during their time.
You've got good music taste, my young friend. Use it as a ringtone for your handphone. Thanks for subscribing.
