  • BMW is on a roll with new updates to their Sport Activity Vehicles, including the all-new 2019 BMW X5 xDrive50i M Sport with the $16,000 Premium Excellence Package. We go in-depth on our review of this new mid-size luxury SUV.
The G05 BMW X5 xDrive50i is the highest form of BMW's midsize luxury SUV sold in Canada for 2019. Our test model for Canada comes standard with M Sport and the Sport Steptronic Automatic 8-Speed transmission. This vehicle is finished in carbon black metallic paint with extended black merino leather from BMW Individual on the inside. The one option added to this $86,000 MSRP is the Premium Excellence Package which adds a suite of top-notch features to this vehicle.
Our full tour and review of the all new BMW X5 50i goes in-depth on what features are optioned on this vehicle, including full adaptive LED headlights, BMW Laser high beams, front and rear Park Distance Control with BMW Surround View and Parking Assistant, safety features like BMW Driving Assistant & Evasion Assist help to keep the vehicle safe on the road. Blind spot monitoring, lane keep assist, and forward collision are also included on this vehicle.
The rear dual lift-gate can be opened automatically from the key fob, swiping your foot under the lift gate area, from the interior, or even BMW's Connect iPhone app. A remote starter is also available for the first time on the X5 by pressing the key fob's lock button three times in a row. Additional features on the exterior of this X5 include the M Aerodynamics front end, shadowline exterior trim, large BMW M brakes, and 22" rims (20" rims shown for winter use).
Inside the G05 X5 we find BMW Individual leather trim, a leather wrapped dashboard and door cards, a 12.3" iDrive 7.0 screen featuring voice recognition, gesture controls, navigation, SiriusXM radio, wireless Apple CarPlay, Qi wireless charging, and quad-zone automatic climate control. The front comfort seats have heat, ventilation and massage features. Driver's heated steering wheel pairs well with the heated and ventilated front cup holders. Rear seats have heat and dual-zone climate, along with manual side window sun shades and soft-close doors.
BMW's digital gauge cluster allows for slight customization but mostly based on the driving profile selected. A colour HUD allows for extra information such as speed limit recognition and board computer alerts to be displayed for the driver. BMW's Ambient Air comes with the Premium Excellent Package, along with ambient lighting with 6 different colour options.
Our road test starts off with performance-oriented testing including a cold start with the 4.4L Twin-Turbo V8 producing 456 horsepower. We test the 0-100km (0-60 mph) time for this vehicle and talk about some of the characteristics that make the new X5 perform and handle a lot like the G11 BMW 7 Series. We also talk about the 2 Axle Air Suspension system and the BMW Parking Assistant which offers hands-free autonomous parking. We also test the semi-autonomous Driving Assistance feature which allows drivers more confidence when driving on the road with added steering and lane keep control.
We wrap up our full tour and review of the 2019 BMW X5 xDrive50i by talking about some of our fuel economy testing, along with what we liked and disliked about this $102,000 mid-size luxury SUV. A full rundown of the BMW Parking Assistant testing we did can be found here: • Real World BMW Parking...

Nile, I enjoyed this review! that X5 is IMPRESSIVE. I spent time working at a BMW dealership in Florida and I drove many of the last gen X5 from base to M, they felt quite ponderous compared to the one they replaced. I've driven the current M40i X3 and it was like a scalpel/rocket ship compared to the Sq5 I drove prior to it. BMW is on a roll lately with some of their designs and more importantly their dynamics. I seriously wish I had the coin to afford the X5 built the way i'd want it.. I'd have to settle for a lower trim 40i.. Wouldn't really be settling though! ps. Is this color the Carbon black? I look online at the configurator and cannot figure out what color i'd choose because they all look the same online! sweeeet color and sweet build spec on this X5. I'm very impressed. Thank you again for the time you put into this content! It's truly excellent.

Carbon black it is! Has that nice blue tint in the right light. I’d love to afford one like this too, absolutely phenomenal to drive. We had the X4 M40i back to back with this, so I got a taste of both in terms of comfort and performance. The X4 grew on me, but the tech on the X5 is a step ahead. This one was already quick, I can only imagine what the M50i and full-on X5 M would feel like.

Love how this drives and commands the road. I usually stay in adaptive but go for sports plus on the highway. A gas guzzler for sure but one hell of a ride and more than worthy of being a daily driver. Great review!

I really loved driving this car, a lot more than I expected to be honest. Still makes me wonder if/what an X5 M50i would feel like considering how spectacular this already sounded and performed.

    really nice truck.
I just wish BMW provided a model with a brighter cream interior or a brown leather interior for this review.
Their interior selection is really nice i just find that black interior is just dull looking when you can have a brighter one that pops out and looks really good.

The X7 really is the 7 Series SUV like BMW intended. Congrats, and enjoy! BMW has quietly dropped their diesel engines since the diesel emissions scandal broke a few years ago, BMW was named in some of the allegations but never got any serious media scrutiny from it, but they've phased out those offerings here. We'd love a diesel X5 to test out, but I don't think we'll be seeing anything unless we take a trip over to Europe.

Great review. The X50i will trounce the M50 Diesel. Real world reports on the 50i M-Sport with the V8TT are coming in at 4.0 to 4.2 sec 0 to 100klm. That’s enough to beat the GLS and GLE 63 AMG. 😎. MT was getting 4.9 second 0-60mph for the X5 40i M-Sport and that is BMW’ X5’s entry level V6TT engine. I think the new ZF transmission is so quick and smooth, it hides how fast the X5 really is. This equates to a lot of speeding tickets.😫

I’ve seen some spy shots on pre-production XC90 test mules running the android system so they’ll probably go that route. I’ll be really interested to see how it works, as the Sensus system is one of the things I disliked on the models we featured.
As for offering a 6 cyl model, unless Volvo comes out with true Polestar tuned versions I doubt we’ll see larger engines from them. Volvo seems to be committing themselves to the twin-charge setup with electrification as the solution to adding more power without adding more cylinders.
