Brilliant video, Watson! Best voice quality of all your videos I have watched - I could hear every word you uttered. Looks like whichever model you go for, the X5 delivers more than enough performance. The back seat also looks a lot comfier and roomier than on the current model. Well done, Mate! Best review I've seen thus far. Finally got to see the vehicle in a color/colour besides white. It looks very tempting. The features were well explained, actually better than some salesmen that I've done business with😏👍🏽

I own the 4.8 E70 with black exterior with all black 20" rims & every time I pull up to a supermarket or shopping mall people still can't stop staring at it & neither can I after 4 years of ownership I still find myself looking back at it every time I park it that design is really a looker.

Car makers put fake side vents for the "look" but it's also a placement for the real vents when they bring out the top performance models. I expect the X5M will have real vents there. Also I found car sizes are growing at a ridiculous rate. The new X1 is almost the size of the old X3 and the new X3 is almost the size of old X5.
Interior is very nice, exterior wise it has gotten alot more angular and the grill is starting to look oddly absurd😕 I think I miss the elegant and exquisite design of predecessor

It's nice to hear some good reviews on 2019 BMW X5 It's back on its feet again
I could get used to that anti-clockwise rev counter, it sort of makes sense and I think a good idea especially with the design. A sort of 'up' means more, so a quick glance gives you a feel of speed and revs.
Agree with you on the crystal gear lever and that distracting grid look, they would annoy me.
Will you be doing a review on the new bmw x5 45e hybrid.
Looks very good especially the blue one i dont get the hate interior is amazing too

Your presenting skills are great and love the content. A great fan and also seen some fantastic savings from the website. I own an E70 X5. It's nice to drive and spacious...I have the m sport 30d.
Now here is the bad news and confirmed by my local BMW dealer workshop controller with 26 years of experience. The tyres omg the tyres wear out prematurely on the extreme inner edges of the rears and the extreme outer edges of the fronts. The rest of the tyre has 4 to 5mm left. The rear edges did wear down to the canvas . I'm fighting a battle still with BMW and now with Munich. They will not admit they have a design problem causing this and the camber on the rears in particular. The work shop controller told me that they all do it even the more recent versions. A pair of rears cost me £700 and I have just replaced a front tyre costing around £200. I wish BMW would admit there is a problem. I could have had another years motoring out of the tyres if it wasn't for the extreme tyre edge wear. Pass on the information be aware and have deep pockets.

Gesture control works really well... got it in my 17' 530d Touring... so many testers get it wrong... it just needs a slow circular movement from your finger to adjust volume... (no mad wiggling needed) :-)

I have bought two cars through Carwow now, and both after watching these entertaining reviews!
I am used to see Mat's reviews in order: exterior, interior, five annoyings, five making ups, road test and advice ( avoid, think, short list, buy), but this time the format has changed and some key points went unnoticed!
At 7:40, about the mode controls, just to say, M cars also have control buttons at about the same location, M1 and M2 are just individual memory button, like a shortcut.
I believe the M5 estate is the best all round BMW, FYI the rev counter moves anti clockwise in the old Aston Vantage, and TVR Tucson, not just Peugeots, so it isn’t inherently uncool.
I love this redesign inside and out. It's more masculine on the outside and elegant/sporty inside. Compared to the GLE's interior, the X5 is more beautiful. The Range Rover Sport is the only one posing a real challenge. Other than that, I'd take the X5 over the GLE, Cayenne & Q7.

Brilliant review. And yes I also wondered why BMW placed the "Sports, Comfort" buttons down next to gear. It's so hard to find the right one without looking down. It's horrible especially when you are doing 70+ mph. Driving hazard!!! I wish they would have placed a "Mode" button right on steering wheel!
X5 has always been a brilliant SUV. No doubt that this new X5 is even better!

My favorite X5 was the E70 (2nd generation). As for best looking in the segment, my vote goes for the Audi Q8 followed by the Range Rover Sport.
When i saw pictures a couple months ago it didnt kick me that much but when i see it on the road it looks famn good 😍

We've had every version of the X5 and the F15 has been my favourite so far. The looks of the new one are challenging to say the least and that grill might as well say 'Get out of my way peasant!!' May take some getting used to.
This X5M has the best combination of colors ever both exterior and especially interior. Love it

This car seems to be really nice. The interior has a lot of soft plastics, nice screens (Not a fan of the exhaust speakers, but compared to fake exhauts, it is better) Brilliant pack overall.
But I think a 5 Series Touring would be also a really nice choice.
However, I am a Merc fan, and I also would like to watch the 2019 GLE Review as well, especially with the new MBUX experience and that new insane interior. All in all seems a pretty interesting car to know (Despite the weird exterior) So, can we get it please? :D

The Gesture Control is not "hit and miss" at 5:42. You just weren't using it right. You need to pinch, then RELEASE then pinch again. You just had your fingers pinched and moving back and forth.
And the hand placement is not correct either. It should face the infotaiment screen because the sensors are placed left and right to the screen. If you use it right, it works perfectly. Mat tried to use it with placing his hand below the screen.

A true petrol-head I agree with you. Any power gained through adding turbos or superchargers is artificial and the more you add the more the engine will struggle.
Also, someone mentioned that the failure rate of turbos is low which is absolutely wrong. Not only are all the economy car turbo engines quite new (so you can't tell how reliable they'll be for proper long term usage, but short-term reliability is already struggling), but newer cars have only been getting less and less reliable with the addition of turbochargers and fancy but ultimately useless gadgets. Most older vehicles could get by with a simple oil change and basic at-home maintenance while these newer ones and especially the german "luxury" brands require specialized servicing at EXPENSIVE dealers with trained mechanics working LONGER. I emphasize the word "luxury" because it used to mean high quality materials and sturdy but beautiful design but now it's just about cost cutting (a BMW is 80% plastic under the hood) and putting in every new pampering technology to appeal to young millennials that get off to useless screens and computers.

I have a 4 series and I swear, something like a BMW 3 series is like 1/3 more to purchase than a comparable Volvo but it feels like 2/3 better car in every single way. I'm speaking from experience, I have a 4 series as mentioned (based on the 2012 3 series) and also a Volvo S60. The volume knob, the interior lights, the sound of doors closing, the buttons on the seats etc. I simply won't be able to get another brand's daily driver! Maybe a Porsche can persuade me but no Audi, Mercedes or Lexus gives the same feelings.
Call me old fashioned but I tend to use my mirrors when Im reversing
