    In this video, Lloyd shows you how to do a one-foot change of edge backwards.
    In order to do this move, you should have a good ability to balance on one foot on the ice. A good ability to hold an outside and inside edge on a curve is also required.
    Going backwards, weight should be on the ball of the foot but not so far forwards that you hit the toe and lose speed. The centre of your back should be facing the centre of the circle you are moving around.
    The Skating knee should be slightly bent on the first edge, rise up a bit during change, then bend slightly on the second edge.
    Your head should be in line with your spine, not sticking forwards or looking down. Doing either will set your weight too far forward.
    This is an important skill to learn as it is the building blocks for the one-foot backward slalom.

    I love your videos! You're taking the time to explain the basics in detail. I tend to see "You go here, then there" types of videos and then I try and have no idea what I'm trying to watch out for, where my hands are going etc.. It then obviously either doesn't work or looks odd and forced. When it's really the fine tuning that'll make a huge difference. Like the heel movement, leaning position and timing of knee bending. Very appreciated that you're going through the trouble of pputting this together.

      Thank you for the kind words, we are happy to hear you're finding our videos helpful.
      We decided to cover everything in very fine detail as we found that there are a lot of people in the world who want to learn to skate, but don't have access to any professional coaching. Our idea is that our videos need to have enough information that the skater can still learn and enjoy to skate.

      @@IceCoachOnline It's awesome, really. I'm faced with a situation in which I'm supposed to teach little kids because we can't find proper trainers and we can also not really pay anyone on top of that. Not that that's even a question when there are no candidates to start with. So whatever I learn becomes a resource in teaching the tiny ones who are still stumbling around the rink. 😂

      @@KxNOxUTA that's a tough spot to be in, but I'm happy to hear that the videos are benefiting you and the children you are helping. Hopefully following the advice we give, you can help them learn safely.

      @@IceCoachOnline I'll throw them at you as they arise 😂 I'll see what I can put to practice tomorrow. And starting mid November I'll have (bad LOL) ice in town and can go test more moves by myself first.

    Great video again, very well explained and really love the common mistakes part. Thank you so much for explaining, your previous answer about the hip makes so much sense, I’m that skater sticking her hips out. Looking forward to next video 💙⛸

    Sounds like might be a good preparation for the backwards one foot slalom

    Your channel is the most perfect on the internet! I have had to put up with many horrible online "teaching" channels and was blessed to find yours. I was wondering if you guys have any Patreon or other means of letting us help you sustain the channel? Also, could you please cover "alternating crossovers"? The ones I found online were really not helpful. Thanks for all the effort you guys put on these videos!

      We really appreciate your kind words regarding our channel. Jono and I are working hard to deliver the best possible experience for our subscribers. We don’t currently have a paetron or anything equivalent, but it is something we have been considering. We will let everyone know if we set one up in the future!By alternating crossovers, do you mean “Crossrolls” ( They go in a straight line, crossing the foot over from one outside edge to another) or “Russian Stroking” (which is a crossover, then an inside edge to change circle, then a crossover the other way)?
      We can of course create videos for both of these moves - Lloyd

      @@IceCoachOnline I was referring to Crossrolls (didn't know the name :) ) but now that I saw Russian Stroking, I want to learn that too :D Hope you make videos on both. Thanks again!

    May you show me how to do the Backward outside Pivot easy ’cause I’m just a dancer since the dawn of my 4th and my last dance to Master is , ” Ice Dancing ” and I’ve never skating before. I only learn through my tabs and PC with you and an American woman Coach on line too.
    I learn quickly but it’s only my 29th time on ice and missing to me, Ina Bauer, Twizzles ’cause I’m afraid, and this famous Pivot.
    I count on you and I thank you 🌬☁️⛸🤍

    Can u explain a bit more about the “keeping your hips underneath”. I don’t quite understand that - I visualise my hips on the side . How do I get my hips underneath? Does it basically mean to tuck your butt in?

    • @IceCoachOnline
      @IceCoachOnline  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good question, it does basically mean tuck your butt in. If you are skating backwards on the ice and you have your hips stuck back, it can make things very difficult as your weight will not be working with what you are trying to do. A good example of when this creates a problem is with 3 turns from backward to forwards. Skaters learning this move can be nervous trying it, and so to be “safe” stick their hips back. This in turn makes it much harder to get their weight on the correct part of the blade to be able to turn correctly, and so increases the chance of falling.
      Make sure when you are getting your hips underneath you, you engage the your core stability muscles and hold a strong position in your body. If you relax the core, you can end top leaning too far backwards and having an accident.Hope this helps and if you have any more questions just let us know.

    My coach had me do a forward change of edge today and he wants me to move my leg forward and back like a pendulum to help with he change(outside to inside, leg back on the outside and forward on the inside) as well as a crossover when changing side. Does the same apply as for this video or would you do it differently? I couldn't quite do it when he showed me but I guess I'll just have to practice it

    • @IceCoachOnline
      @IceCoachOnline  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Using the free leg can help and there isn't anything wrong with doing that, so your coach is doing a good job there. It is just my personal preference to teach people without the free leg moving like that first as sometimes people rely on the free leg moving too much (which is cheating a bit). This might seem better at first, but it only gets them so far before they need to go back and learn to do the exercise skating through the hips and core.
      Hope this helps 🙂
