TH-cam hasn't been showing me your videos, and it just dawned on me that i hadn't seen anything for a few months. i was a little bit concerned, so popped by your page. so relieved to see you are still releasing videos regularly (and happy to have several videos to catch up on). thanks for what you do!
I've heard a similar thing from other subscribers, sometimes it depends on the browser or phone notification settings, not sure. Appreciate your feedback! Welcome back!
Thank you for the in-depth information. What I am able to get in my area is the only fertilizer you don't use. Will have to look for some others online. Looking forward to the follow-up video.
Most of my mature plants are wick-watered, and I allow them to bloom anytime they want - that's when the amount of Phosphorus, the element that promotes blooming, in the Dyna-Gro fertilizers, 9% in 7-9-5 and 8% in 7-8-6 NPK, becomes handy. I also use Dyna-Gro on the few mature plants that grow in soil with no wicks, top-watered - it's a great fertilizer for mature plants, regardless of the watering method. For babies and younger plants in the starter phase, most of mine are top watered, I prefer using the fertilizer with higher amount of Nitrogen, the element that promotes growth of foliage and stems. I use 6-4-4 NPK fertilizer, with 6% Nitrogen, to help them grow more foliage until they mature and ca start blooming, and lower amount of Phosphorus, at 4%. I noticed that if I give them more Phosphorus at the early stage of development, they start blooming instead of growing new leaves, and that's what I am trying to avoid.
Hello, thank you for your video! Question, how much of the diluted fertilizing solution do I pour along with my typical watering? Can't find any info on this. Does the watering just become one process now with the diluted solution? I was thinking you apply both separately.
At 17:22 in this video, I talk about the fertilizer-to-water ratio I use to water my plants. The ratio depends on the fertilizer concentration. For top watered plants, I currently dissolve 1/8 teaspoon of Jack’s Classic 20-20-20 NPK in 1 gallon of water, and use this solution to water my violets.
@grayturtleviolets I think you will like it. So easy. Liquid comes with a dropper . I use tap water run through my Brita water filter pitcher. I do use fewer drops for babies. I have used it for a year with wicks and mine grow and bloom well. Good luck
Thanks for this video!! Highly recommend to watch AV guru on her channel African violets- orchids- cats!! She is a member of AV society and gives a priceless information!! I have learned a lot from her!!! Happy blooming!! Let me know if you found her channel, it’s in russian language, she lives in USA
I wick water most of my plants and the African Violet fertilizers that I’ve come across have very high Phosphorus content for constant feed, in my growing environment.

Thanks!
Thank you! Appreciate your support!
@@grayturtleviolets My Goodness! I never checked the fine print on Jack’s 20-20-20. I did not realize that the nitrogen was urea based. THANK YOU!

I guess I have been lucky I just use Shultz food for African violets or plain water.
Schultz is on my shopping list, look forward to using it for my plants!
