My favourite feature about Keep is that is you add the location (via reminder), the note will show up as soon as you arrive at the location. So if you add the location of the supermarket for instance, the note will show up on your phone as you arrive in the shop.
That is a great additional feature. Thanks for highlighting that, Leigh. It's true that location services can help us to remind us at not only the right time but at the right place. Thanks for watching!
Leigh Hynes Awesome! I've been an avid Evernote user and thinking of making Google Keep my primary note app. I still need Everyone for business affairs.
That is a great point, Buffy. One app may be better suited for your business purposes while the other more suited for personal things. And this can also be a great way to separate work related items from everything else in your life. Thanks for sharing!
Most of what I'm seeing on your channel is over 4 years old but I'm LOVING it! I'm getting validated for tons of things I was able to learn through experience and picking up slick tidbits along the way.
I use Google Keep since 2 months for 5 to-do lists, but the lack of structure is a great disadvantage vs. Evernote. There is no web clipping, no folder structure, no editing of notes (no tables, no Bold/Italic/Underlining...), no capturing of conversations (micro), So for a big user of notes Evernote is still better dan Google Keep. And the search engine of Evernote is at least so good as the GK search engine. For me Google Keep is my to-do app (because of the connection with my Google calendar via the reminders). Thanks for your videos.
Totally agree. Google Keep is very embryonic and fails to compare with Evernote in terms of functionality. To-date, Google Keep Chrome extension does not work at all in some browsers, ie Brave and Vivaldi.
I switched from Evernote to GKeep a couple years ago. I loveddddd Evernote! I had a bit of withdrawal during the first few weeks but now I'm LOVING GKeep and it's been working perfectly for me since then. I use GKeep daily, both personally and professionally.
Evernote restricting free users to two devices was the tipping point for me. That's when I dived into Google Keep. I'm a heavy user of both the web and mobile Android versions, though I didn't know about using the #label thing, thanks for that. Other key reasons to use Keep are location based reminders and scan image to text. The latter works great and has enabled me bin an old all-in-one printer/scanner that I kept around for just this task. But the main reason to use Keep is because it's so quick.
Shane, thanks for watching and sharing your experience with Keep. You highlight some great additional features including scan to text. And like you said, speed may be the biggest advantage for some users.
I wouldn’t call Google Keep an alternative or a replacement for Evernote. They’re not even really competing products. Evernote is a much more robust repository of digital assets with multiple features for power users. Google Keep, on the other hand, excels at convenience and speed. Even as I watched this video, I noticed Keep really functioned better as a task manager for things you may wish to dispose of in the near future. Also, when trying out Keep, I noticed you can’t have more than one image per note which can hamper power users’ workflow or anyone used to keep copious notes and assets in Evernote. Probably a better side-by-side comparison would be to show whether Keep can be used in the same situations as Evernote, say in an office environment or for a small business. I would venture say that Keep would likely run into a few productivity walls. That’s not to say Keep is inferior by any means. It just means that it’s probably better as an adjunct to your Evernote workflow rather than a replacement product, because really, they fulfill very different needs: convenience versus power. So consider rather your personal needs and choose what integrates into your workflow and maybe even use both for separate tasks.
Thanks for your comments, Gary. Yes, I know many people who use both of these apps for their individual strengths. As for your comment about adding images, Keep can certainly have multiple images within a single note.
Ah, yes. You’re right. Either I overlooked that feature or it was added after I had tried it out. All images are pushed to the top of the note and resized accordingly, though, which is probably fine for most Keep users. I like to put images within the body of a note with captions and such. In any case, Keep and Evernote are not really analogous to each other. Keep seems like a great digital sticky note web app for the masses whereas Evernote is more for power users. People just need to know if they want power or convenience.
I'm still keeping Evernote but I'm liking Google Keep as well. Just downloaded the app for my phone and look forward to using it. Thanks for the tutorial.
Thanks for sharing your comments, David. Let me know how things go with the Keep app. I've found that the speed of the app is one of its biggest benefits.
I have been an Evernote user, and was frustrated by their change in pricing earlier this summer. As a homeschooling mom I was using Evernote across several devices. I "stumbled" on to Keep when I got my new Samsung phone. I LOVE it!! I'm so glad I "stumbled" onto your video...I think I'm going to be using Keep more and more effectively.
Shannon, I'm so glad to hear that you're enjoying Keep. And if you use Google Calendar or Drive as part of your teaching, you can enjoy the additional integration benefits. Thanks for sharing your story!
i got evernote 1 year premium free from samsung phone 2 days ago.. and evernote is very great. i just liking it. with combine with stylus on galaxy note. it do great job.
Such a great Keep review. But I'll stay with Evernote, mainly because: - You can store paper notes as PDF files (also searchable) - You can create larger notes - You can protect the mobile app with a password Google Keep is interesting but just for quick notes I guess. Thank you! Great vid! :D
I can't believe no one has mentioned by far the BIGGEST advantage of Google Keep...the ability to do repeating reminders. Evernotes reminders are great but if you want a reminder for a note more than once you'll need to set it again each time it pops up. Google keep allows you to set reminders to repeat daily, weekly. monthly or yearly. I love it for household things like bill payment reminders, or to set out my recycling on Wednesday nights or whatever. I've been an Evernote Premium user for years and will NEVER ditch the app...but I do use Google Keep for quick reminders or ones that I need to repeat. I also like Keep's checkbox function better than evernote so my grocery list also lives in google keep.
Excellent! Yes, repeating reminders sometimes get overlooked. I also like how simple it is to set and revise your reminders in Keep. Thanks for sharing, Tracey.
Actually it is very easy to filter your notes in Google Keep, all you need to do is label the note and archive it; so all the archive notes will not show up in the main page (the label work the same way as in Gmail).
K. C. Wow! That's a whole new level right there! Just did it and everything looks much cleaner now. Hope nothing happens to these "archived" notes, though.
I have been using Evernote for years mostly as a repository for recipes and receipts. We travel most of the time so having my 'cookbook' with me at all times is invaluable. Any important document I need to keep and have available at all times, like eyeglass prescription, regular prescriptions, etc. are stored in evernote. However, their new restrictions are unacceptable. So I am trying Keep. The recipes I plan to make for the coming week get tagged as favorites so they are at the top of the list. I still take pics of Rx or receipts for Keep. I wish Keep would accept pdf files for storage, but I can put them into Docs. I love the quick search capabilities and the tags. Makes finding what I need a breeze.
One thing you did not mention: voice notes. On my Android version I can add a voice note and it will recognize the words and type them, as well as record the audio for later playback in case there is some question about the transcription. This is not available on the web version, however.
I learned yesterday that the voice dictation tool that is part of the Android keyboard is actually a bit superior to the voice capture tool in Keep, in case that has been giving anyone issues or bad transcriptions.
The learn-ability of Keep is very quick. I tried Evernote and enjoyed it, but my wife doesn't have the patience to learn something new unless it's emotionally exciting (face it, it's computer software - boring). We're already sharing google calender as a family and it was easy to roll into Keep and get her sharing kids bday party ideas, new home lists and quick screen shots that we can go back and reference at anytime. If the tech side of your hippocampus is underdeveloped, go with Keep.
Nick, that is a fantastic point. With the ability to share notes with others, it's so important that everyone involved is comfortable with the technology. Thanks for sharing!
Quick question (if you're taking them) I use Keep with 3 other people for sharing "handovers" information the next person needs to know to do their job, how do they reply to a note I shared with 1 of the other 3 for example to say "yes all good no issues" etc
Great question. However, this isn't currently a feature that is supported in Keep. There really isn't the ability to share messages with those who you share notes with (unless you added a Label or and additional line of text as a workaround). I might suggest that you check out Trello which is another simple tool but is designed for comments and work-flows.
Have been going back and forth between different apps that weren't always good across different OSs. I think I've finally found my guy. Google keep is the real deal.
I think that GK could be fast as note taking app, but with Evernote we can do much more. Evernote can recognize text all over images, in it we can collect a lot of different stuff, everything we need (music, video, images, apps, ebooks, webpages, etc.) as we can do with file storage services. Moreover, Notebooks and Tags, together, make more simply (and flexible) to stay organized. In my humble opinion Google Keep and Evernote have different types of users, depending on the needs they have...
I think you're absolutely right. Personal needs and what you want to get out of the app will be the biggest factor in selecting which tool to use. Thanks for sharing!
I am using the mobile app of keep to separate lists with check boxes which are checked and removed from the list when obtained or completed. Also using the reminder dates which includes repeat reminders.
I love Google Keep! The only negative is that you can't upload files, however you CAN copy and paste the shareable link from any file in Google Drive and the link will take you directly to the file.
That's right. If you are already using Drive for file storage, Keep can be a great way to reference those files and still keep the current version. Thanks for watching, George.
No. Evernote, if you go premium, especially, has SO much more functionality. It's integrated with just about any other app or information source. I went on a trip, combining Tripit with Evernote through a send to email, and I wasn't using Gmail. And that was in 2013! Today it's way better. I use it for health organization, work, personal tasks, research work, and yes, grocery lists, too. It makes Christmas so easy, by the way. I just change the year, and uncheck the checkboxes. I even have the tree assembly instructions in that notebook. It's also integrated with S-Notes. (So I hope they can change those batteries and glitches on the Note 7 right quick. It's actually designed to work with Evernote.) And this lack of structure, no notebooks . . . not for me. Thank you for explaining how it works.
It's true. Comparing the 2 based on features and integrations alone is simply not a fair fight. But depending on how you use them, more features does not always make the best experience for the user. Thanks for sharing the great ways that you're using Evernote. I really love your Christmas checklist process!
Simpletivity That check list makes the whole season so much more enjoyable! It really does. But it's when you're doing complex research that the differences are very apparent.
I prefer Google Keep, like @Simpletivity said more features does mean better. It depends on you as a person. Evernote overwhelms me I couldn't even deal with having more features. If you like everything to be all in one place and you have a lot of things to do and are okay with doing multiple clicks to do a thing Evernote will be great for you. I do prefer the ease of Google Keep, I'm more comfortable with using it in terms of design and UX. And, it's easy for my to go toss in everything I need to do and general thoughts and ideas I need to quickly transfer. At the end of the day it doesn't matter the feature of any of these things, what matter is if you are gonna use it. :) Interesting Xmas list process though. But, I'm here for Google Keep hopefully they don't discontinue it!!!
Thanks for watching and sharing your comments, Rose. You highlight some really good points about ease of use. And depending on how you use the application, that can be the signal most important factor for many note takers.
Of course, you choose the one that works best for you. But Evernote is absolutely wonderful for travel. It hooks into your e-mail (any email), which is hooked into Tripit. And so Tripit is connected to your main travel needs. In addition you can have separate stacks. This means that one stack is a travel blog/diary and it doesn't interfere with the travel logistics. I used to use Ecco Pro back in the day, so using a complex outliner/project planner feels very familiar. On the other hand, for everyday repeating events, Google Now, integrated with the Google app, is best.
i agree 100% with you. i'm a Evernote user. evernote is a great app but it sucks as a to do type app. just like you say it takes too many clicks to get to my list even if its a favorite. the biggest dislike with my to do list. when i'm done with a task on the list and i click the square it does not disappear .unlike google keep which moves the deleted list below.
For the last year or so I had a "Planner" folder in my Evernote for daily/weekly tasklists, quick ideas, and daily notes on what happened that day. But I have been playing around with Google Keep and I think I am moving this part of my Evernote structure to Google Keep. It is much less cluttered and faster to use - you are right, far fewer clicks. I love the integration with Google Calendar as well. I have loved Evernote - have used it for several years - but it's been getting unwieldy lately (partly my fault). Also Evernote has been lagging lately when I type in a new note, which has been frustrating. I use Evernote as a repository for lots of data, PDFs, etc. but lately I've been debating whether to transition from Evernote to Google Drive to simplify things. That is another decision...
@@sgist7824 I am no longer using Evernote, instead I use a combination of Google Keep, Google Drive, and a bit of Google Docs. I keep checklists, tasks and quick notes in Keep and longer docs in Drive (most are PDFs). Occasionally I miss a few things from Evernote, but my life is simpler now so this works better for me.
I use Google Keep. I've been very tempted to try out Evernote, but I know I'd want the Plus plan, which is a bit pricey. Sure, it's not stupidly expensive, but with me having Todoist Premium, I'd rather not pay for 2 productivity apps. For now, I'll be sticking to Google Keep! I am hoping they maintain it and not abandon it, though..
How does this stack up against OneNote? I love the screen capture found in OneNote. Of course it works great within the Office suite. I might test Google Keep.
Great question, John. You highlight a point that we should all keep in mind when selecting a note app: what other tools will I be using with it? If you already use a lot of Microsoft products, it might be best for you to stick with OneNote. Of course, having said that, it never hurts to give something else a try and see how it feels. Thanks for watching!
I LOVE Evernote, having organized my notebooks is fantastic for me. At the moment, I'm taking an online course and the course offers transcripts from the videos as a pdf, and other essentials that I need for it. Can you do this in Keep?
Great question, Deirdre. One of the current drawbacks of Keep is that you are limited as to what you can attach to a note. Images are the only supported attachment you can add directly to a note. However, it does integrate seamlessly with Google Drive so you can always link these types of files that way.
I'm used to Evernote and i hadn't heard about GK until now. Does GK have webpages capture options as evernote? Can GK integrate excel/cloud inside notes or something like? that would be awesome and a reason to jump to. Also combining tags for advanced filtering would be orgasmic and another reason to jump.
Great questions! Keep is limited with it's webpage clipping ability. Currently, it just captures the link and does not let you choose what components you'd like to clip. Similar answer to your question about integration - fairly limited. But combining tags for greater filtering is a fairly easy job in Keep. Thanks for watching.
The biggest market for any note taking app is the student market. Can you please do a video on how the Google Keep is relevant to the student community?
I came to TH-cam to see how Evernote compared to MS OneNote and may have just changed my mind by hearing you click comparison. #1 to me is how many times does a phone need to be touched. it is SOOOO critical to me that I'm in the process of designing apps out of frustration. also. in the end, "and as always, be sure to..." I was waiting for a "like and subscribe to my channel," and when you finished with something about note taking it was so refreshing that I immediately liked and subbed. and I plan on going to more videos of yours to do the same now. thanks
In the Netherlands Google Keep just made it's debut. I like a lot of the features (integration with Google Calendar), but I really miss the option to use "foldersets". For example, in Evernote I use a notebook with multiple days of blogging material about a vacation. In Keep it's possible with multiple notes, but in my opinion it's not so nice and tidy....
Thanks for the video. I use both for a while now, being Evernote the primary. I agree that Evernote is not so user friendly, however, the one thing that's stopping me from moving completely to the keep, is the lack of scanning ability of documents. Evernote does it very good. Still one could use another app for that and store it in Google keep. Bottom line? I'm also tired of Evernote. Take care.
Thanks. I have been using Keep for while. It's easy to use unlike OneNote or EverNote, but sometimes I find it lacking. I particularly wished I could change the font size or color or underline or bold text. At the same time I find OneNote for Android cumbersome. With evernote I encountered a frustrating issue: whenever the wifi is sluggish (as in Starbucks) my note gets duplicated every couple of minutes and I get "note conflicts". So I end up reverting to the ever simple Keep.
Yes, perhaps Keep will add some further editing features in the future. I too experienced such duplication issues with Evernote in the past which led me back to Keep as well. Thanks for sharing!
Google Keep seems to have everything I need and I was glad to find it - but was amazed that it doesn't support uploading PDFs. A major flaw. The workaround is to upload them into a Drive folder and post a link in Keep. How is it possible that Google left this out?
Yes, this certainly makes it difficult if you are wanting to attach PDF's directly to your notes. Now that Google has released their updated Calendar, it will be interesting to see what they may have planned ahead for Keep.
Great tutorial, thanks! One thing though; how about the "talk to note" function? It seems it only allows me to capture 5 seconds? Or can I change it in the settings some how? Thanks!
I don't believe there is a limit to the length of the voice recording. What happens is that Keep stops the recording when it identifies a pause. But it would seem that it does often identify these pauses a little too quick and thus ends the recording prematurely. An alternative would be to use the dictation (microphone icon) on your device to transcribe your notes in Keep.
The last caution is: this is Google, folks. Google has the worlds worst reputation for sticking with products. At the drop of a hat it might just decide it does not want to support Keep any longer. I suppose Evernote could sell out to someone who would do the same, but Google has a very bad history in this regard.
A company that has basically one product for revenue, Evernote, will always give more attention to its bread & butter. Keep is just a drop in the bucket to Google.
I'm a long time user of Evernote premium. I have experienced Google as the 2-edged sword-- if the service is free, then your data is not 100% controlled by you. I pay Evernote so that they can focus on providing me a service rather than selling any portion of my data to advertisers. I use several Google apps, but with caution. Evernote is a straight-forward service that I pay for, just like web connectivity, mobile services, the electricity in my home. Also, if your life is more than random to-do items and phone call reminders, Evernote can handle it all from shopping lists to medical records, owners manuals, receipts, writing. To get the most from it, considering your filing needs and planning how you organize your data pays off. Google Keep sounds great for random data-entry of non-personal information like many to-do's, phone call reminders-- nothing that is personally identifiable. And that sort of use has it's place, too. But I can do that with Evernote as well. Most important feature in a note app? Being able to keep everything you want to keep and being able to find it quickly. Search is the feature.
Thanks for the question, Bob. I'm not sure if we should be any more worried about Google shutting Keep down vs any other app being taken off the market. There is always going to be that risk when buying into a system. Evernote has had some well known financial problems, so I think that risk remains for many users.
I had the same fear but I think Google has finally stopped being childish with Keep. It's tied in strongly with Docs and the new Gmail so I think Keep is safe. I hear you though. Google's like the creative child who throws projects away when bored. But hopefully Keep is one product they'll actually stick with since it's part of the Drive and Docs system.
Evernote can be passcode protected but Keep cannot. You can also quickly create notes in Evernote from your devices drop-down notification bar, without launching the app.
Watching this in November of 18! Lol and I'm finally dropping Evernote! Not paying and I use my Samsung Galaxy Note 9 (all Notes since 2) retired my iPhone then... but still use all Mac's! So Google Keep for me! Cross platform and free . Just don't like the fact that Apple doesn't want to play nice with others... it's personal preference imo. My Note is a mini computer that I take everywhere! But when I sit down at home. I want to be able to keep on going on my computers! Great vid... even years later! Google Keep has grown up since then... even better now.
Iv'e used Evernote and LOST DATA, I've used OneNote and lost data (cannot alphabetize either), I've used icloud and lost data. So what I did was created a (living) text file and copied it to DropBox, Onedrive, and iCloud Drive (3 back ups) I can view.
I don't like Evernote, but I don't like Keep that much either. If I had to choose one, I guess I'd have to choose Evernote. But to me I prefer Zoho Notebook. It's like a mix of Docs and Keep.
there are so many more features that keep needs to add before I ever think of switching. Keep is still a great option for simple list and simple note-taking but Evernote is more easy and straightforward to use
Great question. That is a selection box. It allows you to select a part of your drawing and then move it to a new location on the screen. Hope that helps!
Great question, Martin. You are wanting to link to a Keep note from a file in Google Drive. Is that right? To do so, just open up the note in Keep and then you can copy & paste the unique URL which is assigned to each note. Hope that helps.
I have been using Evernote the past 2 3 but now really thinking about moving to Google keep.Is there a tool to automatically import all notes from evernote?
Great question, Zapy. I'm not sure if such a tool exists but would love to hear from someone if they've found something like this. It sure would have helped me when I decided to make the switch.
I think this is comparing apples to oranges. Google docs and Ms One Note are Evernote competitors. Plus if I want a decent to do app, I'd choose todoist. I see it as a case of using the best app for the task. If I want to create a quick shopping list on the other hand, then I'll use keep.
One frustration with the web version is that when you scroll through your notes it scrambles the order of things in a very annoying way. Notes jump up and down, back and forth, etc. You can avoid this by choosing a list display, but if you use the sticky note display it is a hot mess.
mikethelma I've noticed this as well. But is the shuffling a result of the notes syncing? For example, the initial layout is displayed from the last time you viewed it on that device. But then it quickly syncs and adjusts the notes based on the latest edits. I've noticed something similar on the mobile version of Trello. On a similar note, it looks like Keep just introduced the ability to pin notes to the top.
Thanks for watching, Oliver. No, I don't currently have a Spanish translation of this video. But feel free to contribute such a translation if you'd like (I've opened up the community submissions). Much appreciated!
Thanks for your question, Esther. Keep does not currently have an import option. But there does seem to be a few workarounds available if you do a search on this topic.
Unfortunately, there is currently no direct way to import Evernote data to Google Keep. Keep does not yet provide an import option. You can export notes from Evernote as HTML and then manually add them to Google Keep. But this is probably not appealing if you have a large number of notes.
Great question. I think this really comes down to personal preference. There can be a benefit of using 2 Keep accounts in order to keep those parts of your life separate. However, you could also address this in a single Keep account with different labels, colors, etc.
just noticed something interesting: I set up 2 google keep accounts, one for my work and one for my private email, The I added a chrome extension called "category tabs for google keep" which lets you name the color, so instead of "blue" it might read "home projects" Oddly when I renamed the colors in one account those names also appeared on the other.
Thanks for sharing what you discovered. This may not be a great solution for what you're trying to achieve. But I've heard really good things about this particular extension otherwise: chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/category-tabs-for-google/dlahcjmefibiedeecoegjilekaebchhl
that's the one. It works, its just odd that it works globally on both my accounts, I have different categories at work and at home... But still better than trying to remember what blue was supposed to mean...
Cybernetic Heat Information Great way of using the best of both worlds. Do you transfer your Keep notes to Drive? It's one of the lesser known features of Keep.
Yes! I did transfer a whole bunch of my longer Keep notes on one go. But it seems the original Keep notes still existed after, when I was hoping they would automatically delete out of Keep. I guess I what I should do in the future is transfer then delete just one note at time so I don't get confused and then have to manually compare Keep to Docs and delete the redundancies out of Keep.
good review. this is a fancy sticky note. cant replace evernote. in evernote you can have folders and save pics, documents etc...if you collect scientific papers, or store bills to various clients then you cant use this app. this is for making a small shopping list and view it on ur phone...not even as capable as wunderlist!!
i use evernote to save long article, which i don't think google keep can be very good at. i guess everyone has their own way of use an app, evernote for me is a notepad, and read-it-later, and an archiver.
Evernote is for people obsessed with staring at their phone. I signed up to use it and the free version was to basic and non functioning that I didnt use it. I actually prefer a small company with my information than a large corporation that already owns half the world's information. So beside all my email, youtube, cookies, advertising metrics, google apps and calendar this is another way to collect and piece together all the information they could ever want on each individual...this is actually very scary if you think about it
Being a long-time, heavy user of Evernote, I can't imagine replacing Evernote with Keep. Just watching the demo creating different Keep note types: text, to-do, or image, is a deal-breaker for me. With Evernote I can create a note with text, images, and text, all combined in a single note. Keep is too simplistic for me. I currently have 1200 Evernote notes, and need to organize them hierarchically. Using only Keep labels and search to do this won't work for me.
Sorry, but as of right now there isn't an efficient way to do this. You may find some useful workaround suggestions provided in the comments section here.
When I used to use the Chrome app to create, edit and delete notes the changes would never sync properly across other devices (Android and iOS app). Deleted notes would constantly reappear no matter how many times deleted and also Bin emptied. Checked items would become 'unchecked', duplicate notes causing an error message and so on. I did a search online to see what's going on and if there are any others experiencing the same thing and I came across a post on another tutorial saying not to use that Chrome app, so I thought I'd give it a try. Since I stopped using it I haven't had anymore problems with sync issues or wanting to headbutt the closest wall.
Hey James, can you please explain in more detail what you've been experiencing? I've been using the extension for several weeks and haven't noticed any ill affects. Thanks.
I love and hate google. This is one of those times. Tasks is fantastic. I love it. I used it every day and when I get home I'm forced to use Microsoft's TO-Do . I like having a program or app to open on my Windows PC, Google doesn't offer one and the thing is. Microsoft did a better job, but I use Google everything, so I'm stuck.
I tend to favor Evernote because I use the webclipper quite a bit, when I tried to use Google Keep I did have a suboptimal experience. However, you cannot extract any data from the crops and snaps you create. To extract data from visual graphics and especially charts and tables I find on the internet I use Snapchart instead www.snapchart.co/
Simpletivity, I hope you would reply to this comment because I wish you could prove me wrong. But I think your entire video here is missing a point. A notebook is for taking notes (or meeting minutes). Try this with Google Keep: take a 2-hour meeting note. You will face a real problem: Google Keep limits you to ONE "post it" note, while Evernote or Onenote allows infinite page length or width. FYI, I use Google Keep (can't live without it now) as well as OneNote (syncing problem driving me nuts, thinking of paying for Evernote, which I tried for some time). I have found that Keep and Evernote/ OneNote very different things in respect to taking quick but short notes as opposed to taking long but detailed notes in a meeting or class. Please prove me wrong as Evernote costs and Onenote is driving me nuts. But I doubt that you can. Thanks for reading the comment, and if you're replying.
Hi Travis, I'm not sure that I'm clear about your question. Keep has a limit of about 20,000 characters per note. That's the equvilant of about 5-7 document pages.
Hi thanks for replying. I mean handwritten notes, just like you take notes in a meeting or class. You write, sketch diagram etc. via a tablet, for instance. Thanks!
Simpletivity i agree with you. Keep amazes me with OCR search capability. But sketching for a notepad is key to a notepad, and Keep does a tremendous job, for a note. Here lies difference of a notepad, and a mere note. Keep is more superior for little titbits of info, cause it looks so simple and attractive. Hey thanks for the clarification. Great channel.
Keep fine note app. Evernote is a storage/research app with many capabilities. Paid version of Evernote that is. Silly comparison but the title got me to click. ... Your intention anyway?
I think you're spot on about Evernote and storage. Keep excels in capturing short notes quickly while many Evernote users capture and store information much like a computer file system.
Leigh Hynes Yup!! Love that feature too!
Most of what I'm seeing on your channel is over 4 years old but I'm LOVING it! I'm getting validated for tons of things I was able to learn through experience and picking up slick tidbits along the way.
So glad that you're still getting benefits from this older content! Thanks for sharing.
I have yet to find a list-making app that is more efficient than Google Keep. It's so useful to keep track of progress every day. I freaking love it.
I tried Evernote years ago and repeatedly stumbled through the UI.
I tried Keep and it has worked as though it were my own appendage.
thank you for the great video... I now use Google Keep for my tasks, etc and my Evernote for storage
You are very welcome. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for sharing your feedback, Christian.
I'm so glad you're getting the most out of Keep, Angelia. Thanks for watching and sharing your comments!
Very helpful!
You can also pin notes so they always stay at the top of the space. Love that feature!
So glad that you enjoyed this video, Joanna. And thanks for sharing the pinning feature.
i started using keep a couple of days ago. its simple and useful even being so. especially the note taking using voice is a great feature.
Thanks for watching and sharing your comments, Adnan. I'm glad to hear that you're enjoying the simplicity of using Google Keep.
Gary Horsman we want it all.
I use both.
I didnt like the change in pricing with ability to sync only two devices in the basic plan
Yes, it certainly was an interesting move by Evernote. Most applications will limit you by features in their free or basic version.
i got evernote 1 year premium free from samsung phone 2 days ago.. and evernote is very great. i just liking it. with combine with stylus on galaxy note. it do great job.
Such a great Keep review. But I'll stay with Evernote, mainly because:
- You can store paper notes as PDF files (also searchable)
- You can create larger notes
- You can protect the mobile app with a password
Google Keep is interesting but just for quick notes I guess.
Thank you! Great vid! :D
Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts, Stefano.
Thanks for the great workaround, KC. This is a simple but effective way to keep your main notes screen clean.
Thanks for watching and sharing your feedback, Roger.
One thing you did not mention: voice notes. On my Android version I can add a voice note and it will recognize the words and type them, as well as record the audio for later playback in case there is some question about the transcription. This is not available on the web version, however.
Great point. Thanks for adding.
I learned yesterday that the voice dictation tool that is part of the Android keyboard is actually a bit superior to the voice capture tool in Keep, in case that has been giving anyone issues or bad transcriptions.
Govind
Glad that you found the right fit for you. Thanks for sharing!
It's actually designed to work with Evernote.)
And this lack of structure, no notebooks . . .
Thanks for watching and commenting, Will. All those clicks can certainly add up.
Thanks so much for sharing your journey, Peggy.
Peggy what did you end up doing?
Yes, it certainly can be challenging deciding how to best spend your money on the tools that work best for you. Thanks for sharing, Christian.
Now THAT was a damn good review. Nice work. I have been forEVER frustrated with a certain NOTE-taking app ;).
Shawn, thanks for watching and for being so discrete about that other note application :)
I'm using Keep for short-term and short notes. And Evernote for long-term and longer notes.
Tagging is faster with Evernote I find also
It sounds like you are getting the best of both worlds (and both apps). Thanks for sharing!
I totally agree Evernote is so user unfriendly - drives me mad.
Great suggestion. Thanks for sharing.
It's not there yet but hopeful. I have started using it along with Evernote.
Thanks for watching, Shain. Let us know how your experience is as you go along.
I came to TH-cam to see how Evernote compared to MS OneNote and may have just changed my mind by hearing you click comparison. #1 to me is how many times does a phone need to be touched. it is SOOOO critical to me that I'm in the process of designing apps out of frustration. also. in the end, "and as always, be sure to..." I was waiting for a "like and subscribe to my channel," and when you finished with something about note taking it was so refreshing that I immediately liked and subbed. and I plan on going to more videos of yours to do the same now. thanks
Thanks for watching and subscribing, Alex. I'm so glad you enjoyed the video and hope you enjoy the rest!
Great points. Thanks for sharing!
Take care.
Thanks for sharing your feedback, Alexandre.
Evernote isn't available for Linux as an official client. I needed really cross-platform tool, so definitely Keep
The last caution is: this is Google, folks. Google has the worlds worst reputation for sticking with products. At the drop of a hat it might just decide it does not want to support Keep any longer. I suppose Evernote could sell out to someone who would do the same, but Google has a very bad history in this regard.
And Google Reader. RIP.
mikethelma Google might just decide to buy Evernote. You never know.
I can't imagine any app could be better than Evernote.
They also have apps that have been around forever! (Gmail, google docs, maps, etc.)
A company that has basically one product for revenue, Evernote, will always give more attention to its bread & butter. Keep is just a drop in the bucket to Google.
Thanks for this, I think Google Keep is the right app for me.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Eugenia. You bring up some really great points about considering the best tool to use.
I use keep and it is very good but you know Google how long will it be before Google shuts it down??
Thank you. Probably just copy and paste the important ones
Yes, that's what I ended up doing when I made the switch. It can be a great way to get rid of the old and start fresh!
Evernote can be passcode protected but Keep cannot. You can also quickly create notes in Evernote from your devices drop-down notification bar, without launching the app.
Thanks for sharing.
My notebook would be my different accounts. I’m thinking I may give this a go.
All the best with the new setup, Mo. Thanks for watching!
So glad you liked this one. All the best as you get the most out of Keep!
I don't see a web clipper equivalent though - love that for recipes (also recipes in here would be unwieldy)
Hi Michelle, have you tried the Keep Chrome Extension? It can both link directly to a webpage or grab text from the page you're on.
I have been using Evernote for years and it is an incredible note taking tool. However, Keep is far simpler and works better for me.
Thanks for sharing your experience, David.
What do you think is the most important feature for a note app?
Great thought. OneNote certainly has it's advantages for those invested in the Microsoft infrastructure.
Simpletivity u
Iv'e used Evernote and LOST DATA, I've used OneNote and lost data (cannot alphabetize either), I've used icloud and lost data. So what I did was created a (living) text file and copied it to DropBox, Onedrive, and iCloud Drive (3 back ups) I can view.
I tried Evernote, but google keep is my favorite.
I think Evernote has a heavy app for android, at least for my smartphone.
I experienced something very similar. The time it took to load the app was starting to hinder my productivity more than help. Thanks for watching.
I don't like Evernote, but I don't like Keep that much either. If I had to choose one, I guess I'd have to choose Evernote. But to me I prefer Zoho Notebook. It's like a mix of Docs and Keep.
Thanks for sharing your feedback, Mikey.
Good job buddy! Thanks for posting.
Is there any way in Google Keep to make a list and assign different users to complete different tasks?
Unfortunately not. You can share your notes with multiple people. But to make actual assignments, you may want to use apps such as Trello or Asana.
also the number of tags is very limited, there is no manual backup from the PC, there is no built-in scanning
there are so many more features that keep needs to add before I ever think of switching. Keep is still a great option for simple list and simple note-taking but Evernote is more easy and straightforward to use
It really comes down to what features are most important to you. If you're an Evernote power user, then switching would certainly be challenging.
Folders are the Past (Outlook, Evernote), Tags are the future (Gmail, Keep, Social Media...)
Thanks for sharing!
Do you know what the square is for in the left bottom corner of drawing mode? I can't figure out what it's for.
Great question. That is a selection box. It allows you to select a part of your drawing and then move it to a new location on the screen. Hope that helps!
I noticed that you can create a google doc from a note, but can you create the link to it (say in Google Drive)?
Great question, Martin. You are wanting to link to a Keep note from a file in Google Drive. Is that right? To do so, just open up the note in Keep and then you can copy & paste the unique URL which is assigned to each note. Hope that helps.
Excellent. Many Thanks
I have been using Evernote the past 2 3 but now really thinking about moving to Google keep.Is there a tool to automatically import all notes from evernote?
Great question, Zapy. I'm not sure if such a tool exists but would love to hear from someone if they've found something like this. It sure would have helped me when I decided to make the switch.
i love that hashtag hack. definitely going to start using that.
I love that you love that tip. Thanks for sharing, Kylie.
Does Keep do OCR as well?,
Yes it does!
Like it, will give it a try
Glad that you like it, Hernan. Thanks for watching!
I think this is comparing apples to oranges. Google docs and Ms One Note are Evernote competitors. Plus if I want a decent to do app, I'd choose todoist. I see it as a case of using the best app for the task. If I want to create a quick shopping list on the other hand, then I'll use keep.
Thanks for sharing your input, Roy.
Very nice vid. Thanks!
Thanks for watching, Jim.
I Use Google Keep, Onenote, google calendar, and wonderlist but actually I don't realle need it because of the calendar+keep on the phone.
Thanks for sharing, Johannes.
a greate comparison might just start using GK
Thanks for watching, Keven. Yes, I'd suggest trying out Keep and see how easy it is to capture new ideas.
On a similar note, it looks like Keep just introduced the ability to pin notes to the top.
can you view/edit notes offline? that's my biggest problem with Evernote
Yes, you certainly can. Keep will then sync your notes back up once you're back online. Thanks for the question.
Wonderful!! Thanks!
what do you do with a finished "todo"? archive? delete??
Personally, I delete all of my todos. If I feel there is something valuable that I may want to reference, then I might archive it.
Hola que tal? Tienes esta información en español? Gracias y saludos, que estés bien.!
Thanks for watching, Oliver. No, I don't currently have a Spanish translation of this video. But feel free to contribute such a translation if you'd like (I've opened up the community submissions). Much appreciated!
Can you import from EverNote and/or OneNote??
Unfortunately, not easily. As you can imagine, most apps do not want to make it easy for you to leave. I've yet to find a great solution for this.
GKeep has no import option? I have a ton of note in Evernote. ??
Thanks for your question, Esther. Keep does not currently have an import option. But there does seem to be a few workarounds available if you do a search on this topic.
What a bummer... you'd think marketing would have thought of that. LOL Sticking with Evernote. Love your channel, btw..
Yes, maybe we will see such a tool in the coming months. Thanks for watching and subscribing!
How did you download kewp
Is there a way to export and import your Evernote to Google Keep
Unfortunately, there is currently no direct way to import Evernote data to Google Keep. Keep does not yet provide an import option. You can export notes from Evernote as HTML and then manually add them to Google Keep. But this is probably not appealing if you have a large number of notes.
I have 2 different gmail accounts, work and personal, do I need (or want) 2 keep accounts?
I'm putting short text in Google Keep and long texts in Google Docs.
I guess I what I should do in the future is transfer then delete just one note at time so I don't get confused and then have to manually compare Keep to Docs and delete the redundancies out of Keep.
good review. this is a fancy sticky note. cant replace evernote. in evernote you can have folders and save pics, documents etc...if you collect scientific papers, or store bills to various clients then you cant use this app. this is for making a small shopping list and view it on ur phone...not even as capable as wunderlist!!
great video bro
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Thanks Man 4 a great video...
You're welcome, Sheikh. Thanks for watching!
i use evernote to save long article, which i don't think google keep can be very good at. i guess everyone has their own way of use an app, evernote for me is a notepad, and read-it-later, and an archiver.
I use Google Drive to save long articles. I like Google Drive's user interface than Evernote, and the 15GB of free space.
Thanks for sharing, Ding. It's true, as a web-clipping tool, Evernote has many more features than Keep.
Thanks for sharing your feedback, Tom.
Is there a way to get notes from Evernote to Google Keep? Thank you!
Sorry, but as of right now there isn't an efficient way to do this. You may find some useful workaround suggestions provided in the comments section here.
Thanks! FYI to all... DONT use Google Keep Chrome extension app. It will trash your sync! Stick to the browser (URL) version and phone apps
James M Can you explain in more detail? I haven't noticed any errors while using the extension.
Thanks.
That's pretty detailed already. Not sure how else to explain it
Sorry about that. The replies weren't showing up so I didn't see your previous response. Thanks for sharing what you found.
Yes, it's not always an easy choice, especially when moving between devices and operating systems. Thanks for sharing your feedback, Garrett.
@@Simpletivity hope someone with coding still can figure a way to sync the two. We sync calendar across the board, let's do kt
Have a look at Zim Desktop Wiki very good works on Windows and Linux it is free to use
Hi Bob. Thanks for sharing another note taking alternative.
Thanks ..
Thanks!
Sketching is supported by Keep and handwritten notes are searchable. But most likely not quite as powerful as Evernote or OneNote in this department.
You're very welcome. Thanks for watching, Travis.
Very quick and easy, but limited.
That's a fantastic 6 word summary. Thanks for watching!
Keep fine note app. Evernote is a storage/research app with many capabilities. Paid version of Evernote that is. Silly comparison but the title got me to click. ... Your intention anyway?
I think you're spot on about Evernote and storage. Keep excels in capturing short notes quickly while many Evernote users capture and store information much like a computer file system.
this looks like it's WAY easier than evernote but I have SOOOO much stuff in evernote to switch over :(!
Yes, that can be a challenge when switching. Last I checked, there is not a great tool to make a straight transfer.
Google Keep doesn't do handwriting notes. That's a deal-breaker for me.
