Considering this was real the pilot would more then likely be ex military if he’s flying a Blackhawk which makes me think he wouldn’t be scared of being in a shoot out with a little pistol

Well, he's in the middle of no where, his truck flipped and probably isn't working anymore. He got a little handgun, but if he uses it or triea to run, he get hosed down by deacon in the copter. Send like D has everything under control
They need to approach from the passenger side of the pick up, there's no good shot for the driver because of the cab roof. Then they could get a much closer shot. I haven't worked with the LAPD since 2013, I don't remember them having this kind of helicopter. I know the LASD have helos, but not like this.
Blackhawks are very very very strong, durable, and reliable helicopters. The only way a 9mm is taking one down is if it hits the pilot. And the military version's cockpit is armored, so I would assume the one the police have is armored as well. Back in 93, Super 6-8, took heavy AK and small arms fire for a solid 30 seconds, helicopter was riddled with bullets but was 100% fine until her tail got clipped by a rocket from an RPG which took out the tail rotor, and a helicopter can't fly without a tail rotor.
'think I'm new to this type of stuff, why do people use brass catchers if they're some kind of snipers in a heli? Does the brass actually affect the flight? I've seen one in a Sicario movie and I thought maybe the brass just ain't cheap and they can't just let that one go
@@kohrenhund Similar to FOD/Foreign Object Damage, there's always a risk of spent shells will fly or accidentally ingested into helicopter engine intake which could cause enough damage to even crashing down the aircraft.
Not much damage to flight critical components no. But the cockpit windows on the doors are plexiglass. Witch is why almost all birds have a Kevlar plate wing the pilots can extended to provide protection from the 9 and 3 o'clock positions . if you pause at 1:11 you can kinda see the tip of it. Still the fact a round made contact right by the PIC's head was a very Hollywood shot.
The series is good but cmon a black hawk against a handgun and the pilot says “one shot could take us down” like come on the pilot think he flying a balloon?

My uncle in the army said sometimes when he was flying he would get shot at with 50 cal rounds and it wouldn’t do anything so I doubt a single 9mm bullet would do anything
Well SWAT was given full reigns of resources mid way through season 2. You would think that after taking down many criminals and thwarting an attack on the city council would earn you the respect right?
Well with a budget of 12 billion dollars I'm sure they could add one to the fleet. But say one is needed, I bet you the city Governor would make one or two phone calls and have one from the National Guard or from the Navy or Army in very little time.

Bullets don't fire that accurately on a moving target. Those shots easily gone into the driver side door or even passed the passenger compartment. He should have held a lead in front of the hood then when he shot the truck's engine block would have run into the path of the bullets.

The only problem I have with the episode here is the fact he would have to lead the target be a good bit and aim a bit high. Aim ahead for the lead and aim up because of the draft from the rotor blades.
Nah. I'm guessing it belongs to one of the nearby Army bases. In reality, anyway. Hopefully, in the show as well. I wonder how much of a stretch it is, LAPD SWAT using Army assets.

That is the most Hollywood thing iv seen the rotor wash and the wind with the helicopter moving side to side with a moving target going fast you will need to do more then just aim forward and shoot

Why does a SWAT team have a Blackhawk? They're cool and everything but we're talking police. Limited budget. We have a police helo locally. It catches a lot of flack because of its expence but I like it because it saves lives (skip the high speed chase part. Helo just follows you every where). It has a lot of bells and whisles like IR, thermal etc to help it out. An no one is going to hit it while its 500+m up. The one thing it is NOT going to do is have a gunner on board.

It’s also why a helicopter makes a great deal if sense: get reaction team from a to b quickly. And bypass traffic. Now I get they might have gotten the helicopter on the cheap. The M14 isn't a sniper so why would a 'Delta Sniper' use one? It's a marksman rifle, there also SWAT, not Military Special Forces...
