To be fair, he's got mountain guys this year, he just doesn't have people to punch vicious holes through the air on long flattish stages like Van Aert or Laporte.
What was Stuyven playing at, giving Pogacar a free ride to the line like that? Surely should’ve been back trying to help Mollema reduce the deficit? Made no sense to me. Powless looking pow-erful, could be a dark horse for the overall.
The Tour should determine who is the best rider, and bike handling from time to time over the cobbles may have its place. But today showed that excitement for one stage like today comes at a cost for the remainder of the tour. Everyone has been waiting for Jumbo vs Pogacar in the mountains, only for that to be snatched away in that panic between pave sectors. Not sure if makes for great bike racing all around. Another Pogacar tour in the basket now?
Two years ago Pogacar lost 1:40" in a windy stage (and still won the tour), but he learns fast and is unlikely to make that kind of mistake again, and made sure he was upfront on such a challenging day...Sometimes what looks like bad luck in the back is just a result of not being able to hold position when everything speeds up to 60+ km/h before entering the pave...

I wonder if Pogacar held back a bit not wanting the yellow jersey so early in the tour, so that the team didn't have to go on the defence. This is just a thought so don't lambast me too much. I do believe he will keep on improving throughout the tour to eventually win and I bet the JV team are in damage control right now and will race today's stage totally differently to the cobbles.
I have been saying this since the Giro that I believe Vingegaard will do better than Roglic and it looks like he is the MAIN GC for TJV now. It's something that consistently happens to him. Vingegaard is just so strong and ready to show the WORLD he is WORTHY!!! If nothing bad happens with him (mechanicals, crashes etc) I actually think he might win this. Pogi would have to have a mishap tho cuz that kid is just fkng AMAZING!!! His strength on the cobbles today was INCREDIBLE!!
Jumbo Visma, the difference a day makes! Is it just me, but why did Dylan van Baarle ride with Pogacar ? Is there some gentlemen's agreement going on between Ineos and UAE to jointly fight Jumbo Visma...
Roglic is not a poor bike handler. He has 65 victories and is a 3 time grand tour winner. Was he supposed to fly over the hay bale? People are just searching for a needle in a haystack. It is disrespectful and disgusting to say that a man who has 65 victories in a space of 5 years including 3 grand tours is poor bike handler.

I think Ineos were smart to let Jumbo do all the work. In the end Van Aert, Laporte and Pogacar floored it all day and Thomas and Yates largely rested.

I assume that now, other teams will do the same when/if he is down or something happens.
Not how that works, it’s when the yellow jersey is down they don’t attack
Geez. Race already over for Roglic? I was hoping for a Pogocar and Roglic duke out in the mountains. Vingagaard now is the Jumbo team leader.
Maybe Roglic is better as Vingegaard in the mountains, it's still not over yet.
Now is like last year vingegaard vs pogacar Roglic is not for the tour
Even before Roglic crashed, they sent the entire JV team back to help Vingegaard after his mechanical. What was telling is they sent the Yellow jersey back for him which says to me he was maybe their first choice anyway.
@@HBosman I agree. You make sense.
@@HBosman Quite sure JV would have done the same to Roglic if he was the first one to have problems
Acid techno and road cycling? Heck yeah
Pogi positions so well he avoids the majority if not all issues. Class act in all aspects.
Being a little taller, he can see whats going on better than most.
Pogacar is a born bike rider, he also rode cyclocross.
Came really close on stage 3 though. About 2 metres further back in the pack and he loses a decent chunk of time.
KEEP FIGHTING JUMBO!! FINISH BIG!!
How does this video not show what happened to Roglic?!! Did he separate his shoulder grabbing a water bottle?!!
O'Connor's puncture ended up costing him about 4 minutes. That's his Tour already shot to pieces.
Have to ask what happened to his team mates when he got caught behind 👀
Crazy stage
Excellent recap!
Extended highlights please on GCN plus.
It’s odd for me to see a 4x TDF champ Chris Froome at 5:02 and not hearing his name being mentioned.
No brit no dopping 🤣
@@mortenmoicmoigladys1236 Old trolling content. You realize Froomey nearly died couple years ago, but now back in the Tour right? Come up with something more substance next time.
What are stage. Incredible.
Impressive Pogacar, after the tour of Flanders, now the cobbles of Northern France. Like WVA a true allrounder. If Wout would lose some weight, perhaps we would see a real GC battle.
great race
I think a rename is in order, going forward TJV Wout Van Haert. That team doesn't realize the talent and dedication he gives, seriously WOW!
They ABSOLUTELY know how talented he is!!! That's why they took him on and gave him all these opportunities!! He's their golden boy!
How can you not love Pogacar, dominating the Tour without having a team? He races on talent, experience and instinct, what a joy to watch
He is the most complete GC rider since Eddy Merckx.
To be fair, he's got mountain guys this year, he just doesn't have people to punch vicious holes through the air on long flattish stages like Van Aert or Laporte.
@@luckyspurs He'll have plenty of help starting with stage 7... just getting warmed up..!!!
What was Stuyven playing at, giving Pogacar a free ride to the line like that? Surely should’ve been back trying to help Mollema reduce the deficit? Made no sense to me. Powless looking pow-erful, could be a dark horse for the overall.
Exactly, as soon as it was clear they weren't going to bring the front of the race back he should have sat on his wheel at least.
Go, Wout! Show all those doubters that you're not to be reckoned with
another great stage, thanks for the great recap videos
Impressive ride by Pog, but what was happening with Stuyven? Did UAE buy his services for the day, or is he planning a move next year?
Pogi gains time in exchange for jasper to get to the front group and win the stage. Neither happened. only 13 secs gained
It's definitely over vor Roglic and more or less decided now.
pronunciation is just brilliant at the intro, every time
I really really like GCN big up to the organization so organized may God bless you
Thank you so much
Powless is awesome! Who is that guy???
Just seen Roglic put his dislocated shoulder back in!! Think spectator helped!! OOoooogh !
@@julmeissonnier agreed. Pogacar is a one in a lifetime rider. Sadly, the epic comeback came at the end of the tour, and the fight felt very well alive somehow for him. The gap is much smaller then the comment section may play it out to be, but here’s hoping for an epic remainder of the tour. Jumbo have a once in a lifetime rider in Wout 😉
@@mediocrecyclist I actually think the really serious cycking fans have been waiting for a battle between Pogi and Vingegaard and NOT Roglic. Vingegaard has been so string all season and he has something to prove. He is the MAIN GC for TJV now and I think he has a great shot at it!! Roglic just can't finish things OFF and he finds himself in bad situations and loses time CONSISTENTLY!!! Vingegaard is the one REAL fans want to see step up. He has something to prove to the team and the WORLD!! It reminds me of the Bradley Wiggins/Chris Froome situation in 2013 and Froome had to step up and show the WORLD he was READY!!! I feel that there's some animosity just beneath the surface with Roglic and Vingegaard to be honest but that's just my opinion obviously

@@channul4887 Shite is right!
Roglic screws himself. He spends too much time in the peloton where shit will always happen. His team needs to isolate/ protect him from others more efficiently.
@@savagepro9060 Your hard-on for Wout is strange to witness. Get it together, man!
What’s the story with WvA’s “flying celebration”?
Red Bull.
Oh! I see. Thank you.
Jumbo just need to go with JV now and have Rog attack Pog relentlessly. Rog is done in the tour as a potential winner imo.
I've been saying it for months now. Roglic has an issue of consistently not finishing things. He finds himself in bad situations and loses time CONSISTENTLY. Vingegaard is their MAIN GC now! No question about that now. He's looking SO STRONG this whole season!!!
Still haven't worked out why Stuyven was working so hard to the line with Pogacar.
Still....one of the most exciting week 1 stages I can remember.
It varied, but Vlasov was riding 32 mm tyres 🤯
I have been saying this since the Giro that I believe Vingegaard will do better than Roglic and it looks like he is the MAIN GC for TJV now. Hes,on such amazing form and it reminds me of the Bradley Wiggins/Chris Froome situation! Froome stepped up and showed everyone he should not be overlooked and Vingegaard has been doing this since last year's TDF and he feels it's HIS turn now. I feel that there is some tension on that team coming into the TDF this year. Vingegaard has something to prove!!! Roglic just seems to get himself in bad situations and loses time.
Size of tire they are using in this stage?
Well, at least you got 5 days out of me. Today was inevitable for Team JV and Co. We all know how this plays out for Pogacar. Moving on....
Did you think it was over the other way in 2020 going into the final stage?
Jumbo Visma, the difference a day makes! Is it just me, but why did Dylan van Baarle ride with Pogacar ? Is there some gentlemen's agreement going on between Ineos and UAE to jointly fight Jumbo Visma...
Can you imagine the euphoria of such a win?
Roglic is not a poor bike handler. He has 65 victories and is a 3 time grand tour winner. Was he supposed to fly over the hay bale? People are just searching for a needle in a haystack. It is disrespectful and disgusting to say that a man who has 65 victories in a space of 5 years including 3 grand tours is poor bike handler.
This incident seemed completely beyond his control, just terrible luck, you hate to see it
All of Jumbo Vismas bad luck was made up with Wout not tackling the DSM car
That was pure skill to be honest
Or at least 80% skill 😂
What do you mean by that, "made up with Wout not tackling the DSM car"?
@@kenkaniff8428 I doubt that he'd be able to continue following a crash like that
Cobbles = Chaos
The main question is why TJV didn't wait a few seconds for Primož to connect, since he and Jonas were right behind the group. Then they sent three riders to help, but not the best. These are relevant questions. But was it rational considering the help, Roglič's fall injury and Jonas's only mechanical injury. In any case, should they have slowed down for a few seconds, and Primož would have connected.
So WVA and Jonas personaly make Roglic minute difference.
Having a chance to take a stage or go into the yellow jersey, then attacking too early, missing the podium, and not getting the time bonuses required to actually take the lead of the race, is peak Neilson Powless. Dude won San Sebastián from a three-up sprint against arguably stronger sprinters than Clark and Taco, what the hell was he thinking?
they prioritized yellow over the stage win i think

What happened to MVDP?!
Wondering why the Tour makes these guys go over insanely rough cobblestones. Sheesh- the dust generated could not have been good for the lads.
Because it’s exciting to watch!
I think Ineos were smart to let Jumbo do all the work. In the end Van Aert, Laporte and Pogacar floored it all day and Thomas and Yates largely rested.
💥BOOM!! EXACTLY MY POINT ALSO!! They are tactically superior than ANY OTHER team!! They are absolutely playing this smart!!🤘🇬🇧
Jumbo ended up being the strongest team by names as well as tactically. Ofcourse till stage 5 ineos had their fun
lets see Powless put the US on the podium AGAIN pls!!!!
How did GT and Yates go from top 10 to with Pogacar to 2mins behind with WVA? Didn’t see what happened?
Thomas fell and Pidcock stayed back with him. Not sure what happened to Yates, but he seemed quite cheery at the end.
Only lost 14 seconds to Pogacar all three of them and gained a ton on Roglic.
@@luckyspurs thanks. I did wonder.
I think they should have been racing to not drop time to pogacar in the last 10km. They will regret it when Pogacar sails off in the mountains I think.

Question on naming. Magnus Cort Neilsen... his last name is Neilsen and used to be called by his full name and now announcers have dropped the Neilsen, yet he still goes by MCN. What gives?
Nobody in Denmark uses Nielsen when naming him since it's such a common last name, so only using Cort is a way of distinguishing him
@@mathiasnielsen408 so is Cort a viable last name? Is this the same reason why many Spanish riders do the same?
On ITV4 they said Nielsen is such a common name, they tend to use the more standout name Cort.
Denmark seems to be extremely low on surname variety.
@@luckyspurs You would be correct since the suffix -sen means “son of” in my case it would mean “son of Niels”. Will be interesting to see how this sorts out in the mountains, does WVA even have a chance against Pogacer in the mountain stages.
It doesn’t seem like TJV will even try. Based on his willingness to fall back and help today.
