  • In this episode of ‪@FullSizeFord‬ we give our 1962 Ford Galaxie 500XL its first bath in years. We also clean out the interior to gain a better idea on how much rust we're actually dealing with. We encountered some surprises.

Just a note about braking drums loose. A trick I’ve been doing for fifty years. On the backside of the backing plate just cut the heads off of the brake shoe retaining pins Small cutoff wheel or shape chisel the brake springs will help pull the shoes in and they will collapse inside the drum and helps in removing the brake drum

We’ve definitely had to do that in the past. Thanks for sharing and watching!

My Dad had a 1962 Ford Galaxie 500 Sunliner Convertible in Gloss Black with white top, Red and Black interior. It was powered by a 352 V8 with Cruise o matic transmission. I have always liked these 1962 Ford's since those day's.

On a car that dirty, I sometimes spray it down with SuperClean. It will pressure wash off sooooo much easier and cleaner. Be careful as it will dull out shiney paint!
Oh man... yeah definitely damp storage destruction. We see that a lot on this side of the state unfortunately. Always LOVED those center consoles in these Galaxies!
Almost the worst amount of poop I've seen yet... WOW...!
She's definitely a project but i think can live again with some work. Certainly has a lot of pluses going for it!

Thanks! It’s a 500XL so worth the pain. Lol

Just a note on braking a drum loose, I cut the heads off the brake shoe retaining pins on the back side of the backing plate with a small cutoff wheel or sharp cole chisel and the brake shoes will then pull themselves in and collapse inside the drum and then the drum is alot easier to remove. Give a try next time, saves from damaging the drum and beating yourself to death. Something I’ve been doing for 50 years 😊

We’ve definitely had to that before, check out our ‘67 Galaxie video. We’re always trying to preserve as many parts as possible, even though they will probably get replaced. lol Thanks for sharing and watching!

Looks like a 352 V8 block. Bigger than the 292 V8 they put in that year. Just heard you say it was a 352. They were good engines. We didn't see the passenger side.

Like the idiot that I am, I let the hose get up against the pressure washer exhaust as I was starting the passenger side so it was done at a later date. Passenger side looks about the same as the driver side. Thanks for watching!

The 352 engine sucked at the dragway. My best friend owned a 1959 Ford with a 352 engine and the best he could do in the quater mile was 17 seconds an less than 80 mph. This was in the mid 1960s.
