SEIZED Big Block Ford ~ WILL IT RUN After 40 Years?

  • I purchased this disgusting wreck of a 1971 Lincoln Mark III for its 460 big block V8 engine. It turned out to be locked up and required a great deal of work to get running again. As is usually the case with 385 series Ford engines and myself, it ends in catastrophe.

Oh my goodness! Reminded me of my second car back in 1979! A 1968 Buick GS400. It had a Buick 430 stock engine with the Stock Quadra Jet. A Camaro differential and sat high in the back. I was in southern Ark and was driving it hard through some twisty back country roads. Engine lost oil pressure for some reason,,, . So I just filled it up with more oil. But it just seemed to be running badly and registering very little oi pressure? I was lucky and made it back home. And the engine died pretty much as I pulled into where I parked beside the house. I pulled the engine apart and found pretty much the same thing! How I was able to make it many back home that day is a mystery. The oil pickup screen was mostly plugged by bits and pieces of the destroyed piston! It was the #6 piston. What a waste of a great engine! Sorry that you lost your engine like that! But if you hear such a miss fire again,, and related sounds and very poorly running motor,,,, and you are wanting to keep it,,, MAYBE,,, Pull it out first and tear it down as needed before you destroy it! Just food for thought. Great entertainment though. Thank you.

The best penetrant I've ever seen is mint oil and diesel. I first ran across it at the railroad museum I volunteer at, one of the guys got some mint oil from the farm where he works. I was blown away at just how effective the stuff is, it eats through anything! You can buy the mint oil online in big containers, and it's not too horribly priced. Another great video Dalton! I can say that, Because it's happened to me a gazillion times). All in the glory of a day in the life, of Polebarn Garage! Epic! You're right Dalton, there's a first time for everything, but at least it was a Ford, and not "A JAGG" that locked up on you!

Hey Dalton, don't feel sooooooo bad, years ago me & my brother purchased a completely reconditioned 327 for a project (This is in Australia so a very expensive rebuild). Time passed & we got side tracked with the female kind & didn't get to fit the engine for about 12 months. We got it running with the exception of a bit of a miss. We tapped the valve just in case one was a bit sticky. There was no change for the first few seconds of running, when a very loud clatter emerged from the RH head. The engine was shut down & we decided that something was not quite right with one valves sitting a bit higher than the others. We removed the head to find that the top of a valve had removed itself from the stem & proceeded to smash the F#$$%@ out of the piston..... No warranty as we had taken so long to get it running...... The moral of the storey is for both of us & anyone else that little voice starts to yell at you to "STOP & CHECK THINGS OUT" Thanks for sharing, it brought back those fond memories of sitting in a corner rocking back & forth with a ciggy & plenty of beers. 🤣😂🤣😂😃👍

Two days after that task was added to my management responsibilities I had a trailer fall on my foot thanks to an improperly secured folding jack. I wasn't wearing steel toe boots, instead it was Nikes, and I was now looking down at one crushed toe and another hanging by strand of skin. I see a lot of it as a necessary inconvenience now. I might catch hell for this but as a young boy I was always told to treat the internal combustion engine with respect. The tractors, the generators, the cars, the trucks, even the lawn mowers. If it was an internal combustion engine, it needed to be “warmed up” properly before use. So when I see a motor that hasn’t ran in decades being red lined… no surprise when it comes undone. Sorry for your loss Dalton. 🫤
