WHY SO MANY ROOFLINES ON THE GALAXIE? ARE THEY THE SAME?
In this episode of FullSizeFord we take a look at the different rooflines of the Galaxie, particularly the hardtops and the boxtop style roof. Inspired by the Thunderbird, it was a staple of Ford styling on the full size Ford cars from 1959 to 1963. We trace its roots back to the 1956 Lincoln Continental Mark II. Which do you prefer, boxtop or fastback?

I've had 3 II's. I have a '78 now. For a new driver, its not going to feel like a modern car - at all. If suspension hasn't been replaced, it can be made to feel a lot better. The good news is all the suspension and driveline parts are available everywhere. The conversion looks pretty clean. The difference in age between the II and the escort is that they are both pretty darn old. The II has parts, the escort will not. Its always a score to get your kid a unique first car.

That was kind of unsatisfying...found cars, but no progress on buying them, of discovering they are not for sale. Probably should've waited to make the vid until you knew if you could get them or not. I once found a very rare engine available for a small plane. I emailed him and spoke to him on the phone, but he wouldn't give me a price. He was going to get back to me. The guy who gave me the lead mentioned to the seller I preferred my mechanic rebuild it. I next received an expletive laden rant in an email attacking my mechanic, me, and declaring he'd never sell me the engine. I was stunned. The engine is rare, but very very few airplanes can use it. I later found out he did the exact routine somebody else three years earlier. Maybe he's crazy, maybe it was a game and he doesn't even have the engine, I don't know. Some people prefer to see something beautiful decay or be destroyed rather than let someone else restore what they couldn't fix.

I did not know your boy was into these Mustang IIs!?! Same boy that was with you when you dropped off the 55? I have 2 of these, a Cobra and a Fastback in Cobra dress. Well one is suppose to be my son's, the Cobra, but yeah i would have showed them to ya when you were here! I've probably had 15 or so of these over the years. Not many people liked them so it made them cheap and easily accessible for quite some time. Last 10 years or so they've gotten really popular. Lots of idiosyncrasies with these cars... especially the V8 cars. It's one of the only Ford vehicles where the V8 was made to fit the car rather then the car built to house the V8. So V8 swapped in ones, I'm always particular of. @9:20 Which i can already see, the power steering bracketry is a mess... Alternator bracket looks like its missing, and that appears to be an early '75/'76 Mustang II water pump pulley, different from a regular car/truck 302 water pump pulley. Fuel Filter is on backwards too.... lol So I'm guessing he bought it??? NICE! @11:09 So believe it or not, 'some' 4 bangers did come with the 8" rear but fairly sure this was a swap job based on the highly improper rear shackles. The spring eyes, even rearward, are huge bushings. The Mr Gasket extend-o shackles just don't work. Plus... the MPG wouldn't have a rear sway bar. Only cars with the "Handling package" had rear sway bars such as Mach 1s and Cobras. that totally looks like a factory rear sway bar, mounting plates, and 8" rear. May be a limited slip? Quite a few had them. Did it lay 2 patches @12:50 ??? Well good for Kale! Glad he's got himself a clean little II. I played with these from about '96 till about 2010ish.. Had lots of fun with them. I still have mine, the 2nd one I ever bought. My very 1st II was a '78 Cobra II v6 4 speed T-Top black/Black car. Loved that car.... wish i never got rid of it.

As the owner of one of the 275 1960 Edsel 2 door hardtops produced, I take offense as these being referred to as “Starliners.” Starliner was a Ford, correctly referred to as Galaxie Starliner in 1960-61. There never was an Edsel Starliner. That being said, you do have a very rare car. It would be even more rare if the data plate reads model 63B. Only 52 of those were produced. Drop me a pm. I can send pix of mine.
