it's not a knockoff, legit most action camera makers go with the gopro design, akaso isn't tryna knockoff gopro, their more like a cheaper option to gopro
I've got a Akaso EK7000 laying around, but I don't have a fast enough storage card to record at decent quality. I was thinking of just getting a GoPro but yours looks far better than mine in quality. My videos are grainy (Newer dell webcam integrated into laptop) and look like they are shot on a flip-phone camera, I think tomorrow I'll get a card for my Akaso. Might film the sound a different way though. Iono.
Just bought the V50x and it's a great entry action cam. They did the update on the button where the record button is on the top. However, the noise on record and stop record is still the same! They should really make a different beep for stop record. The trick is to press PHOTO to stop the video as the photo makes a different noise and stops the video recording.
This is a weird comment. There's no photo button, and there's no record button on the v50x LOL. There's only a shutter button, and it's to start or stop the video if you're in video mode, or to take a photo if you're in photo mode. It's all the same button.
The bundling of the accessories and extra batteries by Akaso is an example of how the big guys should bundle their products as well, instead of making people pay through their nose for the extras. A big thumbs up for that!👍
I have an older $30 "Momba ME10" action camera that looks comparable in image quality to the Akaso, though it doesn't have a touch screen. Doesn't seem worth it even at 1/3rd the price of the Gopro. I know you did a first look video of the Insta360 One R, but I'd like to see a detailed look at their internal audio quality. I'd imagine the sound from the One R could be different between the various modules in that system too unless all of the mics are in the screen piece. The 1" sensor module plus the extended battery pack look pretty appealing from a specs standpoint at least. EDIT: I noticed the Insta360 One R forces the use of their app. That a big nope to me. I'm looking at the DJI Osmo Action instead now that they've been updating the firmware to reduce the "rock steady" lag a lot.
i have the akaso v50 pro se and it fixes the screen issue were it gets scratched really easy and i don’t have any issues for a budget action camera it’s amazing
I bought the Akaso V50 pro SE between christmas and new year 2019 for €81, it was on sale on amazon. Bought the external mic as well for €9,95. Pretty decent for the money.
Here’s a simple solution for those who need a camera. 1. These cheap cameras offer 4k and they lie. At best they are 720. 2. The batteries are crap. 3. Look good on small screens but horrible on larger screens, like a laptop or tv. 4. If you want true 4k quality, stabilization, etc... Buy a refurbished IPhone SE or 6s. I use the SE because it’s small and less expensive than the 6s BUT has better camera options (like slow-no). I have an IPhone 11 Max Pro but needed a 2nd camera to do live streams and range videos. The 4k on the SE is excellent and true 4k. It also has better audio and can accept external mics. Plus there’s an abundance of waterproof cases, gimbals, and rigs for attaching accessories.
I've been saying for years that Apple could repurpose their stockpile of iphone parts to hop into the action cam market and be the first with a smart action cam . I actually have an extra iphone se laying around for that purpose.
ShironTHPS ShironTHPS Those cameras are not cheap. You’d pay $140 for Thieye T5e with a true 5mp sensor (not 10 as it claims) and crap Ambrella chipset... versus a $70 IPhone with a true 12mp sensor, phase focus, A9 processor, touch screen, longer battery life? iPhones have great stabilization, much better ISO, better video frame rates, better quality video, better build quality and the added benefits of being able to use various apps + connect to WiFi.
Wanted to try an action camera without investing as much as a GoPro. Picked up the Akaso V50 Pro for the value-to-money ratio, must say I was pretty impressed for the price. But that's also where it went south. Like you mentioned, it does suffer terrible audio issues, to the point, that I actually shipped an external mic from the US to India to get it sorted. (Also, it only supports the proprietary mic and the availability is terrible). Few months down, I think it's still a good buy and today when I came across this video, I was genuinely suprised that you reviewed it. Great stuff man, like always. Pointed out the right things that I feel a lot of reviewers have missed out! 🙌
I know this is a very old thread however I do want to point out my Akaso had a terrible speaker when playing from the camera, however when playing from my computer the audio is GREAT.
In my opinion the stabilization for akaso v50 pro is not very good, cheaper and for occasional use is good the akaso, but for sports and video on fast movement I don't recommend it. I have hero+, the akaso v50 and hero 8 black, akaso is good enough but nothing to compare with gopro ones.
Could use y'all's advice. I have a small auto channel and am moving towards doing reviews. Would like an action cam I can attach to the dash/window to record when I'm test-driving and can not bring myself to pay for a gopro. the Akaso has caught my eye, but if anyone has a suggestion for a better and affordable option I'd love to hear it!
I don't have anything to record videos with, but I just borrowed my grandpa's camera and made my first video. My mom has the Adobe cloud, so I know how to edit with premiere. If I got the action cam, I would be able to record videos once a week.
Again, $99, GoPro with accessories $600. If the GoPro ain't a lot better they had better go back to research and development. I hate these GoPro live-or-die guys who go berserk over competition to GoPro.
An older Yi Action Camera 4K would be cheaper ($75 or less) and have better image quality than the Akaso. You'll lose out on some features but ultimately image quality wins the day.
Would be interested to see a video comparing this to an older gopro that you can buy for a similar amount. My guess is that even an older gopro would come out on top, maybe not in terms of features but in image quality. Similar to the way the image quality of your old Alexa is much better than newer cameras costing a similar amount
I have used my Akaso V50 Pro with my Hero 4 and the stabilization is great on the Akaso I just upgraded to Hero 7 and Hero 8 they all work and are all good for different things
I would love that Akaso. I only have one camera in my bag so having a second one would bring me the possibility of having different angles of all the projects I try to do. And I have never had an action camera, but I do climb and freedive, so I guess it would be AWESOME to add in my favorite sports to my videos! Greetings from Europe! (spain!)

I bought an Akaso 4K GoPro knockoff for 70 bucks like 2 years ago and love it. Came with a waterproof case, use it in the pool each summer and i don't worry about the kids knocking it around

Big fan of Gopro and got the 8 a few weeks ago. The 8 is so versatile, took it to Japan, and used it for 'tourist' shots. This is a great video, just confirmed I had made a good choice. You get what you pay for. I use the go pro for cutaways on shoots, its a really great camera. Love the videos! Will hunt down your archive!
I’m using akaso on almost all my in-action cycling vlogs. It’s not a great action cam, but it works fine to me, serves its purpose. Even if it fell on the ground, it hurts less. Been using it for few years, and it broke few months ago. Good thing, potato jet is giving me an Akaso V50. 😇😇😇
Made a review on this also - the V50 has a second sticky plastic film protector on top of the glass, that's what scratched up so fast - I thought the same. Almost impossible to peel off with fingernail but you can see it.
I’m using the Akaso V50 Pro since one year now this is what I can tell: 2:54 The time stamp keeps coming back every time I change the battery, and I don’t think about switching it off every time so, it is ruining almost half of my videos. The worst: it’s not even the right time and date! 4:50 The stabilization is not as good as the Akaso V50X. The chipset is the same on both cameras so you could think they would provide the same firmware to the PRO… But: NO! the Pro is stuck on its old firmware! 10:09 I lower the entry volume level at 30% to reduce the saturation. Yes 30%! Check some footage on my channel if you are curious about this particular camera
WOW, the audio is the biggest fail. Mounting a few to a off road truck for different views, I wouldn't use audio. and $400 for a few cameras that are for sure gonna be destroyed eventually, VS 3X the cost. I'm sure there are cameras matching AKASO for less out there. You showed me what I wanted to know, ......
Damn man you're such a unique and entertaining youtuber. I love your videos even if I am not interested in items you're reviewing. Keep it up and many many success in the future.
you should try the Myria 7001 from Romania, its 4k, it costs like 20€ so not that expensive, the video quality is impressive for that price! its a gopro knockoff
I have that Action Cam, used it once for a trip, not using it again. Using a iPhone for vlogs and general recording simply gives much better results. There are some specific use cases for action cams but for vlogs just use a phone. It doesn’t cost anything extra and is convenient
I have an older Akaso EK5000 that's apparently supposed to shoot 4k but welp. I can do a review of how Akaso has improved compared to its older hardware. What I'd say is the image quality of the V50 isn't all that different from the EK5000 but I'm curious to compare the two.
I bought an Akaso V50 pro and returned it, it was a shock, poor light sensitivity, a lot of noise, the time stop when replacing the battery. My Eken H9 for half the money is better 1080p.
Hi, may I ask whether the AKASO Cam fits the same mounts and accessories as the GoPro? I wanted to buyer a cheaper option for cycling and was looking at the AKASO. Thanks
Thank you for the informative video! It seems like the Akaso may be just the ticket for a project I have in mind and it's a third of the price of a GoPro.
ever consider the the yi action camera 4k+? they did started out as a gopro knockoff and slowly became a competitor.. well.. it's xiaomi, they knock off everything and slowly made it their own at a much affordable price
Problem is with the gopro is the customer service. I received one as a gift and didn't have a receipt. It didn't work straight out of the box. I'm a pro photographer so I know that with cameras you can tell things like total record length and shot count from the on board chips. I couldn't return to the store so I contacted gopro... 24 times. Either I got no response, or told that they would offer 10% off a new one. I explained that it had never been switched on. Never used, and this could easily be checked. At this point they just completely ignored me and never got a response after. For this reason I'll never buy a go pro. I've just bought the akaso V50 elite instead. More than happy with it.
Here, listen.
1. You open it from the bottom.
2. There is a SECOND PROTECTIVE PLASTIC STICKER on the screen.
you're right, that scratch is a plastic screen protector
I facepalmed so hard when I watched those parts.
it's not a knockoff, legit most action camera makers go with the gopro design, akaso isn't tryna knockoff gopro, their more like a cheaper option to gopro
agreed
for americans everything tahts not the most expensive option is "knock off"
I've filmed all of my TH-cam videos so far with the Akaso Pro and never once had an issue. The video quality is good and the audio is usable

@@mervinted hey that was six months ago. I stopped using the Akaso Pro a long time ago and have a proper set up now.

Yes, I wonder how much gopro paid for it

Why is it a knock off just because it's another brand? A knock off would be a fake Go Pro branded camera that wasn't actually a Go Pro.
Great video. Very informative and thorough.

Is this a rebuild Rollei 560 Touch? The Menus and Button layout looks exactly like the 560 TOUCH.
Akaso is ok... would make a good addition to my interview rig. Ill throw my hat in
what do you mean" deep in the menu?" how to access it?
Akaso would be a good "stunt camera" especially if it was mounted securely.
Not a bad price point for a 4k action cam. You get what you pay for. Thanks for the product review!

@@Joey.Alford good luck finding a 360R i ordered one 4 weeks ago. just canceled today and went GPmax360
i think it would have been a more fair comparison to compare it to an older gopro like the hero 5
I would take that Akaso :D having that vs having no action camera akaso wins :D
For free yes....but at 120$ it's not worth it in my opinion....for about double that you could get a dji osmo action and that rivals with the gopro

Hello (:
I have a question, it is possible to switch from normal video to slow motion with the waterproof case on, per example? Meanwhile you are diving and you can't take the case off. I have the feeling that, since the screen is not working meanwhile the case is on, the general options are really limited with just the two buttons on top... Thank you for your help!

This is considered GOLD in the budget action cam segment. The mic is surprisingly good compared to its competition. Just take note of the model and wait for price to come down. Yo Potato! I want the Akaso!!

I'm still happy with my GoPro Hero 5. I use it almost everyday as a dashcam and helmet cam.
Nothing has changed except for the internal stabilization. Keep it.
I found the v50 for 20 bucks today. Now that’s an awesome deal
Akaso in portuguese means 'random'. So that's a random camera. Interesting...
Kkk funny, man.
It's not too bad of an option for a fraction of the price. I just wish the recording bitrate was higher.
Video idea: “Can Professional filmmakers make cinematic movies using imovie/windows live movie maker?”
Well movie maker can cut and do dip to black transitions. Now if they get to use resolve 16 to grade the footage before editing.. why not!?
Vincent Thao there is no reason to use those anymore now that resolve has a very useable free trial.
Damn I forgot about windows movie maker it’s a shame it’s dead now

Akaso is a WASTE OF MONEY. You've done a great job at absolutely roasting the knock-off. Go Pro will be pleased with you.
But if you shoot in 1080p 60fps and stabilization does it crop the wide angle?
A helmet only protects your head. Wear motorcycle gear when riding, even if it's just gloves and jacket.
squids wont learn until they taste pavement unfortunately.. :/

Thanks for the review! This finally sold me for the Akaso v50 pro! I'm getting 3 of those!
I would still save up and get the go pro. Or the Insta twin edition thingy
I can only afford ramen for 2 more days, but one can dream
