    I love to update you I had impulse and dumped all my artificial drinks like diet soda and water flavor and zero sugar stuff and hoping it make it easier to clean fast and weight loss and help waist since they say it’s just as bad as regular sugar. I was motivated by you and others on TH-cam and my friend who does fasting. So wish me well. I’m doing 20:4 and ADF and some 16:8. Thanks for posting

    Great content as always! I eat about 500 calories or so on my off days too because I read or heard somewhere that it prevents muscle loss

    • @MomFasting
      @MomFasting  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi! Thank you! So the studies on muscle loss with ADF are conflicting. I think it really depends on how often you work out. I admit I’ve never had a dexa scan, so I can’t prove it, but I have had no noticeable muscle loss doing zero calorie down days. It seems to be the opposite. I do make sure to get adequate protein and incorporate resistance exercises, and I think those 2 things are key in maintaining and building muscle. But many people prefer modified ADF, and I think especially if you lift heavy, you could benefit from a protein boost on those days. Thanks again for stopping by!

    Hi Lexi! Thank you so much for your videos, they are so helpful! I started following after hearing you on Fasting Stories. I also started doing ADF because of you and absolutely love it! I have a question though. I find myself overeating on my up days, and I wonder if I’m subconsciously trying to make up for the food I’m not getting on my down days, trying to make sure I’m getting enough nutrition. Can I eat a normal amount of food on my up days or should I be trying to eat more?

    • @MomFasting
      @MomFasting  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Sandee! It totally depends, do you feel like you’re overeating because you feel sick or because it just seems like a lot? Because I do think it’s good to eat a good amount of food to make sure you’re getting what you need. The key is to start your day breaking your fast with fat and protein, and that should keep your blood sugar steady so that you don’t have tons of cravings for junk all day. If I break my fast with something like a donut, I will feel awful and set myself for poor choices later on. I hope that helps!

  • @kikopita

    As always amazing content! I’ve been worried because I finally lost 40lbs (woohoo) but I’ve reached a plateau and I was pushing to add more hours to my fasting window (average is 42hrs) but then I thought to add a two day fast to see if that would help. I do ADF like you, so eating window is T/Th/Sa/Su. Have you ever done a two day fast before and has that helped you feel like you “reset”?

    • @MomFasting
      @MomFasting  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! Thank you! And congratulations on the 40 lbs loss🙌🏼 that’s awesome. Yep, I’ve done a 2 day fast here and there-not too often and I’ll personally still only do 3 days total, so if I do a 2 day fast I’ll only do one 1-day fast if that makes sense. But yeah, it can definitely feel good to do one as I feel like it has extra healing benefits.

    • @kikopita
      @kikopita 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MomFasting Thank you!! 🥰🥰 and that makes sense, since you don’t want to prolong too many “down days” to use Gil Stephen’s terminology. I always break my fasts on the 41-43 hour mark, so might as well extend that just to see how it feels, and journal then results. I tend to forget that losing weight is only one part out of many healing benefits when fasting. I need to be better about remembering it’s not just about the weight loss. I think you’ve made a video about fasting on vacations in the past, any thoughts on talking about the subject again since summer vacations are coming up?

    • @MomFasting
      @MomFasting  2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Just subscribed 🙂. Question. Do you work out during your fast? I weight train and spin 4-5 days a week and I’m super hungry after. I need to lose weight and I don’t want to lose muscle. Any suggestion? Thanks for the info. This is super helpful.

    • @MomFasting
      @MomFasting  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! I definitely don’t work out as much as you, so I’m not sure that I could give specific recommendations. I do resistance exercise (light weights) 2x a week right before I break my fast and I love it. Other than that I walk. So you may have different needs, and if you love working out that frequently, you may consider doing a modified fast with a high protein meal right after you work out on your fast days, right after you work out. Something around 500 calories. But that’s just a guess, like I said I don’t work out that hard. I do know that people do though who do ADF, so maybe someone on here can read your comment and give their insight.😉

    What about someone trying to heal insulin resistance? It feels counter intuitive to eat so many times per day because of all the insulin spikes. Do the down days just kind of even it out? I also do low carb so it is hard for me to eat giant meals. Even moderately large meals give me digestive issues sometimes now. Trying to figure out what my body needs, but it is confusing. I'm 2 months in doing 4:3.

    • @MomFasting
      @MomFasting  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Lisa! I do believe that it’s enough to heal insulin resistance, but I know everyone is different. Did you have your fasting insulin tested? That’s the best way to tell, though I know it’s hard to get that test done. There’s so many factors at play, but especially if you’re low carb, I think getting those fasting hours in really does make a difference. So if larger meals give you issues, spreading it out more might help.

      @lisagallantgill8355 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MomFasting thank you so much! Yes, will keep the trial and error going. Also will try to get that test done. They usually just do fasting glucose and a1c. My numbers have improved greatly, but I know I have more healing to do.

    • @MomFasting
      @MomFasting  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@lisagallantgill8355 that’s awesome you’ve had improvements! Such a good sign. I’m currently reading a book called Why We Get Sick by Benjamin Bikman, and it talks about the link between high insulin and disease, and how so many people have hyperinsulinemia well before anything shows up as diabetes or anything else for that matter. So hopefully one day fasting insulin will be a more standard test that docs will do to catch these problems before they get too far!

    My problem with a full day eating is I graze. It is maddening. I have always been a binge eater so I feel great doing strict ADF but on my up days I am grazing all day. So, my answer to this is 24:1. I need to lose 40 more pounds and it is eluding me. Generally ok, but socially, not so much. Suggestions?

    • @MomFasting
      @MomFasting  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello! I guess my question is, what do you graze on? I don’t personally prohibit snacking, I just make sure to snack mindfully. Carrots, high protein yogurt, cucumbers, etc. Also I probably eat the most volume earlier on in the day. I feel like this keeps me more satisfied throughout the day to the point that by the end I just eat a really small portion at dinner time. Also, if I want a treat I’ll have it right after a meal to curb the glucose spike. I’m doing a book review video on the book glucose revolution that has so many helpful tips to curb glucose spikes, which are a huge cause of cravings.
