I just heard this song a couple weeks ago. It's my first real song to learn on the guitar. So motivating. This tells me he was welcoming his own death. So sad. He's so talented. I can't think about this song without contemplating my own eventual end...

Definitely. I was 32 when this was first released, and now that I'm 54, it makes me realize how much time I've spent wandering. His lyrics just rip right into my core.
RIP Chris. One year ago I had the chance to hear him live for the first and last time in the Ancient Amphitheatre in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. After each song, the 10,000 + audience would stand up and applaud for around 30 seconds. Literally, after every song. No one could believe how amazing his performance actually was, I had seen countless of live videos, but on that night he nailed absolutely every single note and he played for 2 hours straight leaving the audience absolutely stunned. It felt like he was in the peak of his abilities. It was surely one of the most powerful music experiences I ever had. I still can't believe he passed today, because I can still imagine how he sounded in that Amphitheatre like it was yesterday.

Chris was awsome in all those bands and in solo. Both bands were 2 of my favourites bands of all time. LYRICS!!! On a cobweb afternoon In a room full of emptiness By a freeway I confess I was lost in the pages Of a book full of death Reading how we'll die alone And if we're good, we'll lay to rest Anywhere we want to go In your house I long to be Room by room patiently I'll wait for you there Like a stone I'll wait for you there Alone On my deathbed I will pray To the gods and the angels To the pagan or anyone Who will take me to heaven To a place I recall I was there so long ago The sky was bruised The wine was bled And there you led me on In your house I long to be Room by room patiently I'll wait for you there Like a stone I'll wait for you there Alone Alone And on I read Until the day was gone And I sat in regret Of all the things I've done For all that I've blessed And all that I've wronged In dreams until my death I will wander on In your house I long to be Room by room patiently I'll wait for you there Like a stone I'll wait for you there Alone Alone
This was probably one of my favorite rock songs to sing when I was younger. All of his music quickly became my dailies. His voice is like no other, he was incredibly talented. To hear the emotions with every word. I can’t help but cry and cry now that I’m older and actually can hear the lyrics.
I always loved that song but this particular performance of it could bring me to tears... Anyone who has loved and lost can feel the pain and sorrow in his voice... as a Musician and Vocalist, Chris Cornell is True Greatness
That's not fair 😅 are you suggesting that everyone should be held to the same standard as Chris Cornell? I think that would discourage most musicians, even pros.
People often speak of Cornell's vocal abilities and rightly so. However, this sometimes overshadows his immense, endless talent of individual expression -specifically lyrically. This song is truly an artful, an art form in & of itself!

This to me is by far his best version of this song, the tempo, the stripped back acoustic and his phenomenal voice with so much depth and feeling absolutely love it
I see this performance and I just wanna go back in time, hug him and say: "Everything is going to be good. I feel your pain and I'm sure there are a million people like me." I know that's selfish and stupid but I hope that Chris is somewhere out there hearing that. We miss you. The world is a bit worse without you.
I’ve watched this countless times and don’t recall if I ever commented. I am now because I’m still in awe every damn time I watch it. I’m speechless it’s so good. It’s my favorite version of this song. It tears right down to your soul. I’m blown away how one man with a micr and guitar , all alone, can make music and sing a song that sounds like this!? Absolutely incredibly talented! This is flawless in every way. Beautiful performance from one beautiful man

God I miss this dude putting music out into the world. He died on my first day of sobriety and I remember listening to his songs over and over as I was writhing and sick in my house. It makes these songs hit me so much harder thinking about it.
I woke up on my 35th birthday, May 18th to the news of his death. I wept for a week straight. It was difficult to get through, and it is still very painful. Especially when you listen. We miss you, Chris.
No one sings like you anymore. You’re sorely missed by so many people, RIP & fly high, Chris Cornell. You may be gone but your music shall live on forever.
I hope nobody ever does. I truely don't think it's possible. He was one of a kind...the reason why he's a legend. I still feel a hole in my gut every time I see or hear his music. The Man's music is his soul. I'm extremely grateful that his music will always be in mine. I can't even imagine how many hearts and souls of others that he has touched and will forever remain within. I say "I know you're at peace wherever you are. You may be gone from this life, but wherever your soul may be... I'm sure your talent and love for music is still inside". An old soul always comes back....only better.
There is no way to describe this performance, so much heart in it. You can feel every word of it. Such an emotion can't be found anywhere. Thanks Chris for this.
Oh my god, just found this old video ... I was sitting 5m away from Chris as this was recorded in Hamburg 2006 as part of the AOL session production team. I still get goose bumps when I hear his incredible power, just unplugged ... a man with his voice and a guitar. After this session I couldn't do any other as shaking his hand and say "THANK YOU!". I'm grateful for this moment and often thinking about it, him and his family. Thank you Chris for everything you've given us. RIP!
I always come back to this. I still can't believe he is gone. The greatest of all time no question. Just how lucky we were to have this man in our lifetime.

He doesn't just sing a song he puts it in your soul
Ashamed to admit I’m just now realizing what a singular talent Chris Cornell was. 🙏
same
Welcome to the party pal
This is how Chris lives on, he will never be forgotten
We all have our own interpretations of this song regardless of what Chris wrote about,
Me personally this song I listen to almost every day with the passing of my daughter and I hope one day I get to see her again as I wait “like a stone”
I am so incredibly sorry for you and your daughter. I can't even begin to imagine the grief.
Heartbreaking Brad. Sorry for your loss. Peace be with you
May your wish be granted!
yeaaaah pretty good
That’s sad, the world is full of sadness. Such songs may help us with our grief .
Talents like Chris pay the price for what music is supposed to sound like. Raw. Real. Righteous.
I am late coming to his music, 66 and raising children but discovered him 2 years ago. He has a magnificent voice, such soulful eyes they stare through you. So sad to lose him.
Hello Maureen, How are you doing?
Nobody makes you feel their lyrics more than Chris and Layne RIP legends
Amen brother
Yes Amen indeed 🙏🏼
This may be Chris Cornel's best vocal recording that you'll ever hear. Very underrated IMO.
It’s up there with his live performance of “When I’m Down” at the Troubadour in 2010.
3:33 the silence and transition to softer strumming was beautiful
Always come back to Chris Cornell songs when I enjoy loneliness... doesn't matter any day, week, month, year whatsoever.....His voice soothes my mind , touching somewhere inside soul with the unleashed feelings...and the unplugged version of song is always an icing on the cake :) Love and respect to my favorite rock singer. #always live on hearts #rip
Chris was awsome in all those bands and in solo. Both bands were 2 of my favourites bands of all time. They had great names (and it's rare) with significant and simple meaning (thanks to Chris) and amazing songs that sounded like no one else. I would love your input on the first video of my first album. It got the attention of one of my heroes Joe Bouchard (ex bass player founding members of BÖC) but returns from people who likes same music is always the best. If you have just 3 minutes to listen and a bit more to comment, that would mean the world to me : th-cam.com/video/Pu_p1wbaCa8/w-d-xo.html
and our special cover of Madworld : th-cam.com/video/hhnGZSn-6d4/w-d-xo.html
Stay safe and keep rockin' !
During these moments, Chris was the most talented person alive.
He still is to this day
With Chester Bennington, miss both of them
I forgot how good was Chris. This performance is just unbelievable.
No bells and whistles, just talent in it's most purest form. Wish you were still here.
nothing compares to this mans voice ♡
This song is amazing, Chris Cornell's voice is beyond amazing. I can't get enough of this song!
I saw Chris just a few months before he passed, on his Higher Truth tour. Rip Chris, your voice and soul were that of an angel and thank you for letting us hear it.
Chris never died... earth was just one of his tours
It's been a year and a half since he died. I pray for the Cornell family because I know the time hasn't passed as easily for them.
Merkaba i hear ya brother 👊
1/10/19 I still can't believe youre gone
Chris was an angel & his voice makes me want to cry, it's so powerful & mourning
No one sings like you anymore
True
Like a king he delivered his absolute performance of this song
Like a king he left
Hope you found your peace brother
like a king he left wtf your comment is contradicting
When we are all dead and gone and this is the accepted form of media… Can we all agree? This is the book of Chris.
LYRICS!!!
On a cobweb afternoon
In a room full of emptiness
By a freeway I confess
I was lost in the pages
Of a book full of death
Reading how we'll die alone
And if we're good, we'll lay to rest
Anywhere we want to go
In your house I long to be
Room by room patiently
I'll wait for you there
Like a stone
I'll wait for you there
Alone
On my deathbed I will pray
To the gods and the angels
To the pagan or anyone
Who will take me to heaven
To a place I recall
I was there so long ago
The sky was bruised
The wine was bled
And there you led me on
In your house I long to be
Room by room patiently
I'll wait for you there
Like a stone
I'll wait for you there
Alone
Alone
And on I read
Until the day was gone
And I sat in regret
Of all the things I've done
For all that I've blessed
And all that I've wronged
In dreams until my death
I will wander on
In your house I long to be
Room by room patiently
I'll wait for you there
Like a stone
I'll wait for you there
Alone
Alone
To the pagans or anyone***
Cold Wet* not cobweb
@@tomlinsona0704 Holy crap! It all makes sense now! 😂😂
Ö
Amazing lyrics....,
This was probably one of my favorite rock songs to sing when I was younger. All of his music quickly became my dailies. His voice is like no other, he was incredibly talented. To hear the emotions with every word. I can’t help but cry and cry now that I’m older and actually can hear the lyrics.
Hello beautiful Angel ❤️❤️❤️❤️
How are you doing today 💖💖💖💖
I always loved that song but this particular performance of it could bring me to tears... Anyone who has loved and lost can feel the pain and sorrow in his voice... as a Musician and Vocalist, Chris Cornell is True Greatness
This comment has new meaning today
Jimmy J looking back now, it was a prophetic comment.
Danny Reneau it sure does... I'm at a loss for words...
happyjolly77able I feel like this Song, Fell On Black Days and Nearly Forgot My Broken Heart define his passing now.
Jimmy J Very sad :/
I fell genuinely sorry for the future generations who never got to witness this pure unparalleled talent RIP Chris Cornell
I still cry whenever I hear Chris sing. His passing still hurts.
Holy shit, this dude is a legend
Fuckin believe it .
Damn, he was so good. He is so comfortable with his voice. A real professional, a real talent, a real tragedy. So sad that he is gone.
That's how you should sound live.
I'm fairly certain he could have sang the entries of the phone book and made his audience cry.
@@evamoor2377 I would've listened to that.
@@evamoor2377 LMAO facts when you have a voice like this you can read a book and make a song out of it
That's not fair 😅 are you suggesting that everyone should be held to the same standard as Chris Cornell? I think that would discourage most musicians, even pros.
No one can
People often speak of Cornell's vocal abilities and rightly so. However, this sometimes overshadows his immense, endless talent of individual expression -specifically lyrically. This song is truly an artful, an art form in & of itself!

Thanks for the tab, brother. 🙏
Thanks man!!!! Good job
Ohh yehh
Greatly appreciated!
Cannot tell you how much I appreciate this. Need to get my acoustic out of storage or else I’d be plucking thru this right now.
I miss him. It’s not fair how someone so exceptional and humble left us so soon. Such a talent... R.I.P. you legend.
One of the greatest voices in rock'n roll history. Chris, you will be missed. RIP
Myhra RIP Chris, love you 🌹😢😘😘
Agreed but why
this song is deeply moving. one of my all time favorites, even though it makes me cry.
Beautiful performance from one beautiful man
This song just hits my soul at times it makes me cry. His voice is absolutely phenomenal and I'm in awe with him. RIP 🙏 thank you for blessing us with your presence and voice.
one the greatest songs ever written
@@mikeseaquest9246 Yes I agree
Totally agree with you. This song is a masterpiece and Chris Cornell is the best I've ever heard
One of the most heartwrenching songs and performances mankind ever witnessed.
May 18th. Today it has been 2 years since you’re gone. Say hello to heaven.
It still feels like yesterday. Forever a legend.
❤
Dia bunuh diri masuk neraka la bongok.
Sebastian Jimi Gałaś still heart broken
3 now 😔
Im an emotional guy. This brings me to tears. Legends never die
This song and this exact version it’s just too perfect for this lockdown
cheer up homes
Ya because because uh lock down......derp
No one sings like you anymore.
You’re sorely missed by so many people, RIP & fly high, Chris Cornell. You may be gone but your music shall live on forever.
*ahem* Richie kotzen. that said rip Chris was a treasure.
Eso es lo peor de todo. Tener su música, querer verlo en vivo aunque sea de lejitos y que no se pueda :'(
Wow, I could listen to that voice all day long, he sings this song with so much pain and longing... amazing!
Fun fact: He raised the key of the song by a whole step. He sung so good that he could do that and still sound amazing.
I still can't believe you're gone forever....
hes not dead forever.. john5: 28 , 29 he will rise in the great resurrection and live on earth, once again to live with his family
filuferru never gone forever. Will always be with us forever.
wow.... love this version of his song "like a stone", he is great singer!
Listening to this on the 5th anniversary of his passing, you are so missed sweet Chris
Truly, no one sings like you anymore 🤍💔🕊
Great phrasing, I wish I could sing like this, genius.
Romulo Ferreira amazing phrasing so sad we'll never hear anymore new music from him.
Very well said I cannot think of any words to contribute. I’m just sad still and grateful when hearing his voice....
Patrick Williams I feel you!
The people that dislike this song should be ashamed, the man could sing the paint off a battle ship! We miss you Chris!
Forreal
One of the best singers in the history of Rock N' Roll.
Back again in 2024 who’s here with me!?
I'm here often, will always be
Keep coming back
I am too!
I am too...
Never seen Chris live before. I don’t know why. Maybe cause I thought he was going to be around a while.
Proper breath support, light compression/vocal fry, and the ability to bring a speaking quality into is lines. Excellent.
No singer has ever stirred my emotions like Chris Cornell... why are all my favorites gone?
Singing, crying my eyes out and missing so many friends here on New Year's Eve 2022. ❤️ To everyone who is having a hard time too
Amen.
How are you?
Miss him every day. The world is the saddest place without him
There is no way to describe this performance, so much heart in it.
RIP!
Is this video the greatest rock vocal performance of all time?!? 🤯
Seriously!!!!!!
I have watched this a hundred times.
It is truly great.
You can say that about a dozen of Chris Cornell's performances. He was the greatest
Just found this and i play it over and over! Great voice. Rest easy💙
"And I sat in regret of all the things I'd done / for all that I've blessed and all that I've wrong..."
kills me. every time.
Same here man
Forgiving yourself.........
The hardest part of life😓
When you're so fed up and sick of yourself that you regret everything about your existence. Not just the bad you've done, but any good too, all of it.
Pumpkin Hill Yes! It’s bone chilling.
I always come back to this. I still can't believe he is gone. The greatest of all time no question. Just how lucky we were to have this man in our lifetime.
RIP Chris. One of the most powerful voices in the history of Rock. \m/
